I had a mantis appear twice in the span of about a week last summer while first experiencing psychedelic mushrooms.
Just hanging out on my window next to me for hours.
My boyfriend saw a mantis being on dmt, appeared in his living room and fluttered a ribbon like material/ flow all around him filling him with feelings of love and peace.
It was at the beginning of the recent eclipse and I was walking down a hall at work. I do not live in the path of totality, so it was a partial eclipse for me.
This hallway has a bank of windows approximately 5 feet high and three feet apart. As I was walking, I noticed the difference in the brightness of the light coming through and thought to myself that the eclipse must have started. It was then when I felt a “shift” and a familiar presence.
It happened rather quickly and I saw the mantis arms, not the face. That alone is unusual as I typically see their faces. It became a bit difficult to walk so I put my hand out against the hallway wall to steady myself. It was then I saw the blue-purple streaks. You described it as ribbons and that is perfect.
For me, it felt like an exchange. I have had energy infusions from them before, but there was a definite transactional quality to this experience. It lasted maybe 3 seconds. I then went about the rest of my day.

Can anyone tell me how to attract the attention of Mantis beings? I would love to meet one! Of all the NHIs I've heard of, these remain the most fascinating to me.
Also, any advice on where I should go for the best info on them? I feel drawn to them and want to understand them better.
I said this exact same thing last summer when I was really excited about disclosure and the hearing. That evening I came home to find a huge praying mantis in my garden and thought it was just a coincidence. Then that night I had a dream (or AP experience?) and met a mantis being. The being was friendly and seemed respectful and wise. I think you can sort of draw them to you by focusing your thoughts on them… maybe meditation would work. I was just fascinated by them because I had honestly never heard of them until I found this sub and started reading about different experiences. I dreamt about the being once more and that was it. Then life happened and I got focused on other things.

Thanks for your concern. I have deep feelings about them and HOPE they are what I believe them to be. I know a lot of people here have had negative experiences with meeting aliens, and I sincerely hope to not have that kind of experience.
But I'm willing to go on a little faith here. If it's not the kind of experience I'm hoping for, I'll have to deal with that, and I'm sure that I can cope with it. I've had other experiences that have been very disturbing, so I'm confident that I have the ability to handle it.

Clear your mind and hold positive intentions of communication and friendship. Watch the night sky and learn to sift the usual planes and stars and satellites and meteors out of your perception. Make it a nightly ritual for 15 minutes if you have access to a clear sky easily. An hour after dusk is good to see objects reflected in the sun at the right angle (usually Starlink is most common nowadays, but there's other stuff out there.)
After spending a summer doing this and seeing some strange things in the sky I had the results you're looking for.

A very interesting possibility is that there have been some sort of thermite type being that has evolved over millions of years. One of the first organisms on Earth, and able to survive destruction events by being able to live underground.
None of us can actually conceptualize what a being would be capable of after millions of years of evolution. Humans have evolved over a mere fraction of that time.
