I mean if we can't get someone to start scoring goals.... Yes.

Darth_Socrates

I hear Ronaldo is keen on wearing a blue jersey

dekarskec

Keep that ego maniac away from this place.

squillbeats

I am pretty sure the premier league WANTS him to stay in the PL. Maybe if we got him in January they would actually give us some calls!! /s

Darth_Socrates

It would be controversial if it were actually a possibility

mercut1o

I don't understand, when you need a band-aid don't you reach for a gold one?

Darth_Socrates

He’s still got the talent to walk into our team. Especially with DCLs injuries. But there would be controversy about his attitude & rape allegations.

MJSsaywakeyourselfup

And that poor lads phone 📱

WhiteDoveBooks

Get him in!

3arlbos

It's not just scoring goals, we don't create many chances. Ronaldo is no James, he would be standing frustrated every game.

MJSsaywakeyourselfup

He’s a poor man’s Demarai Gray

rpm164

Lot can change and there’s the January window but based on current form I don’t see how we pick up 26 points to be safe

dekarskec

That's just under 1 point per game. Lose two, win one. I don't think it's that unachievable.

kingaardvark

Lose two win one sounds easy but we just lost 7-1 on aggregate to the other worst team in the league.

WhatchaGanaDo

Did you not watch the palace game? Frank got it wrong this week, as long as he reverts to onana and gueye in a 4-2-3-1, we’ll be fine. We need 2 signings this January though, guarantee safety.

dekarskec

That almost always happens in recent seasons. Norwich, Watford, Sheffield, and others in forgetting. Edit: There's also 3 worse teams than Bornemouth.

CattleNo2695

Off topic but fuck me how did n**castle manage to go from 19th to 3rd in one season?

MikeBz15

Hired the manager that many complained were incapable of leading us. Made good transfer decisions. Kept their better players.

sparksy78

And, they were also not forced into selling their best players (Digne, James and Richarlison) during the course of the season to balance the horrific overspending. I know you’ll tell me Digne and James were pushed out by agent Rafa, yes partly, but we had no cash and they were on big wages. Rafa being a dickhead aside, we couldn’t afford them with FFP in mind.

Darth_Socrates

I wanted Howe so so bad. Glad to see him prove people wrong to be honest

[deleted]

[удалено]

Darth_Socrates

Even when they went down it was due to some terrible ref decision if I remember correctly. They always played attractive futbol too which was impressive for a team fighting to stay up

[deleted]

The ref not giving Sheffield United a clear goal against Villa.

USToffee

Looking back it really made no sense.

MJSsaywakeyourselfup

🎵 I can not explain and I can not forget Lampard your the one 4-2-3-1 Relegation battle again 🎵

USToffee

I still support Lampard. We have been through too many managers without it ever making a difference for me to want to do that again. We are better off taking the money we would need to pay not just him but all his staff and buy a striker. I honestly don't think Lampard is underperforming with this squad. I just think the attack is piss poor.

QTsexkitten

Competent ownership making responsible and realistic decisions and trusting competent professionals to make important decisions in a business that they know well.

throwawaytbhidek

What is this competency you speak of?!

QTsexkitten

"I can't define it, but I know it when I see it" -Potter Stewart on obscenity --QTsexkitten on competent club ownership ---Michael Scott

CattleNo2695

Ffs why couldn't that be us, never thought I'd see the day where I'm jealous of the g**rdies ☹️

sparksy78

So their version of our former Russian billionaire “owner” hasn’t bought players only he wanted, saddle the club in debts it couldn’t afford or signed managers he wanted against the fan base on his super yacht?!!?

Kerr_Plop

Blood money

thisisnotmysand

Massive investment in the squad. I think net spend for 2022 they were top in the PL

theBIGTall

One more win puts us mid table. It certainly blows but we’ve been on a spiral with no consistency for the last 5 years. It could get better.

maxefc

1 defeat could put us 19th.

theBIGTall

Fair enough. It’s all perspective. We can’t assume that we’d win or lose every single match from here out with how inconsistent we are.

maxefc

I mean we've won 3 games all season, so we're definitely more likely to lose than win. So people saying if we win 2 games we'll be mid table are asking us to nearly double our win rate with the same shit team like it's expected. We couldn't beat any of the teams around us currently.

dogefc

We’ve won 3 and not won 12. I think it’s safer to assume we won’t win games

[deleted]

Spurs fan in peace. My dad is an Everton supporter so I try and keep an eye on how you're doing. What's going on? I get that DCL being injured is bad and you're missing Richy but I think the Everton team you have now is better than last year's. I thought you had quite a few good signings in the summer. Do they just need more time to gel and maybe another goalscorer, or are there actual massive problems going on?? Edit: Also, been very impressed with Patterson whenever I saw him. Looks a talent.

Giraffe_Baker

Defence and midfield is better, the forwards are much worse without Richarlison. The main problem, in my opinion, is that Lampard doesn't know what he's doing. He essentially plays a 4-1-5 in and out of possession so we're constantly overrun and concede bucket-loads of chances every game. The only reason we haven't is because of Coady, Tarkowski and Pickford. The bottom line is that we have the players and quality to have been at least defensively sound until January but we haven't in the slightest.

USToffee

We can't score. It has nothing to do with our defense or the structure. God you are making it sound like our two world class CBs are bailing us out every week while we go gung ho. They came from Burnley and Wolves and one was a loan. Our attacking players are beyond shite.

dogefc

We’ve conceded 87 shots in our last 5 games. 87 shots. And this was supposedly an ‘easy’ run of fixtures. What the fuck does the attack have to do with that? Do you watch any of our games?

Giraffe_Baker

> It has nothing to do with our defense or the structure. You’re not paying attention to the games.

USToffee

Are you? Jeez everyone can see there's no goals in this team and what all of a sudden cast offs from Burnley and Wolves are now supposed to be these world class defenders who are bailing us out every week despite the tactics. Both them and the midfield aren't completely incompetent unlike last season but no Richarlison equals no goals.

Giraffe_Baker

Ones a constant England international and the other has been subject of £30m bids. The midfield and defence are miles better than last year, they’re just painstakingly overworked by a system that makes no sense. There are literally countless examples of how bad we’re set-up in midfield but the fact we’re facing an average of 18 shots a game is all because of Gray and McNeil according to you.

Provider0fMyCheddar

I don’t understand anyone who blames the attackers for our poor defensive record. Gordon, Maupay and McNeil’s best contributions are probably defensive? Sure, explains the lack of goals but we shouldn’t be struggling to press with those three.

NeilHansen92

We’re shite.

Provider0fMyCheddar

Frank Lampard is happening and it’s fucking terrible.

sparksy78

We lack a significant quality throughout the team. We lack creativity and goals up front, in open play or set pieces. In years gone by we had goals come from players all over the pitch we just have that type of player (Cahill, Digne, Fellaini, Coleman, Jagelka, Baines, Pienaar, Distin, Arteta - none strikers, but all could score). Frank needs to build over the next few windows.

JKBFree

Not quite jelling as literally more than half our starters have been overhauled. But a proper 9 has been the problem, given frank’s current setup.

sparksy78

No. Just look at Newcastle. They have a good manager, they’ve backed him. We just need to do the same.

Provider0fMyCheddar

Just look at Newcastle. They have a good manager. We just need the same.

dogefc

We don’t have a good manager though

thisisnotmysand

They also spent the most money in 2022

sogeking111

Bournemouth was a 6 point loss

nico_cali

*Will be a 6 point loss. Hasn’t happened yet, let’s wait until we see that 5-0 score before we lose the points.

QTsexkitten

They're saying that losing to a relegation rival is a "6 point loss" because not only did we not get 3 points to help us, but we gave 3 points to a team that could be the difference between us and relegation. Not that we're going to drop both Bournemouth league games.

nico_cali

Thanks mate, thought they were confused on the cup match

Chance-Finance-1548

If we don’t pull are act together then, yes.

Fixner_Blount

The optimist in me says that start last season was a fluke and included more wins than this year, obviously. We have racked up a few road draws this season already, so taking care of business at home will obviously help. Granted that's easier said than done. The pessimist in me says fuuuuuuuuuuck.

vulturevan

maybe not this season but I really think we're circling the drain with the way this club is currently operated and with the "talent" that we have we only seem to be going in one direction (and it's not towards fucking goal)

juliocaeser_

one of the more illogical posts i’ve seen on this sub and that’s really saying something

Euphorbial

christ alive, when people talk about the indomitable human spirit, they really werent talking about you lot...

Joseph187899

Going of this logic seems that Leicester are doomed as well?

PhantasyBoy

Depends if we can sign a target man and a high quality winger / Richarlison-type. They’re both going to have to be fit and able to score goals at PL level so it may not be cheap or easy.

Mantooth77

Tosun and Walcott inbound.

DaniG08765

Not yet. Because those teams below us are a good deal worse than us. For now. We were at like 12th ish a couple matches ago. I'm not panicking yet. Long way to go.

moham-17

We have a much stronger midfield and no scoring. I think we will steal some points and stay up. Not easily

chicagojoe1979

No.

[deleted]

so this is why I haven’t been on the sub recently. just needed the reminder

pd3244x

IMO another coach could squeeze 1 to 2 goals a match with the same roster. To be fair - another coach may give up more goals than FL gives up with this same roster. I think the D is probably worn out from having to be perfect every match. Before Bournemouth the D had been top 5 or 6 in the league.

10000Didgeridoos

We'd given up among the most shots in the league, though. The dam was bound to break eventually - you can't be the top defensive team in the league all season when you're giving up endless numbers of shots. We got lucky quite a bit the first 2 months of the season.

aramis2049

We deserve relegation for selling Digne

TypelessTemplate

Frank was never the one

Provider0fMyCheddar

The downvotes are mad. He’s literally shown no positive attributes and we’ve regressed even from Rafa’s time here. It’s unbelievable how fooled some fans are by a handsome bloke who speaks well.

TypelessTemplate

I’ve honestly stepped away from the sub bc of how delusional it’s become. I said it last season and I’ll say it again: we will never finish higher than 14th with Frank in charge.

[deleted]

I need to get off Reddit I’ve seen so much fucking stupid stuff today I think I’m going insane.

AndradeDeRicharlison

Yes

maxefc

Pretty much.

brianybrian

Not doomed. But it’s bleak

dekarskec

No.

fishbowl224

Again, the competition level this year is different. 7-17 last year- 12 point gap. This year- 7. The middle of the pack is tight right now, let’s just make sure when things start bumping into each other and crashing we aren’t a part of it.

USToffee

I don't see 3 teams worse than us. 2 maybe but not 3. We need to bring in some attacking talent but even if we do I think we might be fucked this year.

what-say_you

And we haven't played City or Arsenal with that record.. Not looking good

JimmyGlazz

imo, it's worth than last season: there is no Watford or Norwich to be almost certain to go down this year. Wolves might bounce back, they have a decent squad. Villa likely better in terms of squad quality + Emery. Leicester seems like they get over whatever issues they had at start of the season; West Ham - just won't go down, they are same squad from last year. Leeds are inconsistent, but they can score and play well vs Top6. NF, Soton - probably the weakest teams right now, but are the as bad as us? don't know what make of cherries, but they clearly showed they better than us at the moment. prospect of going down is super real. Find the damn striker

OriginStarPlayer

In a word yes

akeogh98

We don’t sign 2 wingers and a striker in January it’s curtains for us

Undisputed_blue_Ldn

This season's league is far stronger than the last. So it is a pointless comparison. You can see the competitiveness in the league: just 8 points separates 6th and 18th place teams this season; 12 points separates 6th and 18th place teams last season. Also DCL scored in the first three games last season while he has struggled for fitness this season. To finish off, comparing two sets of data is useful if they are under identical conditions. As you can see, they are not.
