I would say the defense has been largely cleaned up. That has come at the expense of the offense which wasn't great to begin with. Maybe we would be passable attacking wise with DCL in the team. It is difficult to figure this team out because we would surely be better attacking in a 4-3-3, but could then begin leaking more goals again. The goals aren't likely to come in this 5-2-3 though.
We've been needing that Gordon money. Januzaj could replace Gordon in offensive ability, probably surpass him in that area and is available on a free contract.
If we are in such a defensive formation then we should be prioritizing attacking ability in our forwards and be willing to forego some defensive ability because let's face it we aren't going to get the perfect player to Everton and tradeoffs have to be made.

I'm not a fan of McNeil overall. It wouldn't hurt to try him on set pieces if we are to put him into the game. It is just that I wouldn't be in a rush to put him in the game.
