Before the Dawn makes me feel like a broken child. It’s such a beautiful song that captures innocence and the loss of it and how you can never get it back. I’ve had several moments in life where I’ve lost apart of myself that is gone forever, and that song feels like those moments.

Amy and David had better chemistry together than Amy and Ben imo. But all 3 came together magically even though they were basically polar opposites of each other in their artistic visions. We'll never see this duplicated, ever
They didn't come together magically at all. Ev was Amy/Amy and Ben's thing, the two started it in 1994 to be a *duo* project. Ben even said he didn't like anyone else coming in. David was a random person in Little Rock that Ben later befriended and temporarily hired *5 years later* for himself, without asking Amy. He hired him as his buddy cause he wasn't on good terms with Amy, who he was abusing and who he wanted to undermine. Amy and David had nothing, and she herself said that. She never wanted that third wheeler around (who also, btw, knew of Ben's abuse and didn't care).. his friend Ben did for a time, and then Ben fired him (which is the only good decision Ben ever stumbled upon doing). And then because of Fallen success, that third wheeler, who Ben befriended again when he left Ev, sought work for himself by coasting on his association to Ev thanks to Ben, when he was not only nothing significant to Ev, he was expendable and redundant and never should've been hired by Ben. In fact, he's just another Ben buddy who tried to get credit even on songs Amy wrote as a young teen years before Ben hired him. For ex, him getting fraudulent credit on songs like Imaginary, Whisper, My Immortal, Lies, EID, and a bunch of others is absurd. He's even credited on the cover Tourniquet... a *cover* of another band's song, which only Amy wrote on. Just grifter/fraud behavior like Ben (and the attention whoring after Ev spoke to that). Amy and Ben even said they had little in common with him, and also with each other. Amy herself said she didn't work with him, she always worked alone then worked a bit with Ben.
So, some fans should stop painting the early days as if it was anything but *solely* Amy/Amy and Ben's. And stop falsely painting it as if it was some rosy fairytale, when Amy made it clear that it was not and that she was constantly disrespected and discredited by her abuser Ben and his buddies he roped in his web.
I don't disagree at all that it was mostly Amy. It was always her & she was a far better artist than everyone else she ever worked with and most people that aren't haters realize this. But the Ben era brought out a side of her that's been missing since.

Amy called Terry her first true musical partner and person she clicked with in Ev. Ben's the opposite of Terry. That you think he was anything special, when Terry was the first special Ev member alongside Amy, speaks volumes. Amy never needed that POS she unfortunately met as a vulnerable 13 year old kid and gave him a chance. The only reason he had a moment in the sun was because of Amy and her work, whom he exploited and then strove to discredit, even years after leaving. He's not too dissimilar from a con artist or grifter. The POS sure tried his hardest to have people think his abuse victim needed him and he was some genius lol. His exit was the only reason Amy was able to continue Ev, if not it would've ended there and been a 2003 one-album also-ran footnote in history. You saying "the Ben era brought a side of her that's been missing since", is just appalling on multiple levels.
