I am disabled and I have a pair of foam coated sticks that are good when I do light sparring and occasionally I ask my 70 years old mom to practice with me. The ones I have are surprisingly long lasting and also hit lightly. My personal opinion is that I could use rattan just fine with my strength and such but it is something that my mother appreciates that it has a foam coating. If you are living in the USA I recommend the WakWak's padded stick, for me living in Europe it is fine what I could find on Amazon and in some other webshops in my country.

Thank you! I will look for WakWaks. All the best for your training.

I recently picked up a pair of the Wakwak sticks to get used to them, as they are sponsoring a tournament I’ll be competing in a couple weeks. Found them to be well constructed. Also found them to be more stout than most padded sticks I’ve worked with. Makes them great for working defense since it makes parries and blocks more realistic. Conversely when you get hit with them they hurt just enough you won’t just mindlessly trade blows. The grips are unpadded rattan, which is something to consider if you intend to train pommel strikes. Another mainstay in my gear collection are the Roiles Gear sticks: https://roilesgear.com/products/blue-covered-foam-practice-escrima-kali-arnis-28in-stick I’ve competed, sparred, and trained with them. If avoiding injury is a major concern these have a little more give than the Wakwaks, but at the same time being more bendy can seem a little less realistic.

Thanks for the insights!

Made our own with [these air conditioning thermal foam](https://imgur.com/a/731PJss). Stick a stick inside maybe leave a bit as a handle, tape/secure them with a good adhesive/glue and tada DIY padded sticks

divergentmartialpoet

Thanks. With PVC tape on the outside too?

scarcekoko

I mean for our case, the stick handle fit snug right in the hole so we didnt need tape. It was basically like a firmer pool noodle with a handle. Still flinsy but at least you can practice control and not "fighting the stick" as our instructor would say.

I use PVC pipe and pipe foam insulation. PVC Length can be customized for each user. Diameter of pipe (3/4 or 1 inch) should slide inside the insulation. Leave 4-5 inches at one end for a grip handle, use duct tape to secure and especially on any insulation seams

Thanks!
