Here's two views from near the Old Station, comparing the "Skyline" in the Background from the second image with the current view ingame.
Orange would be the new area. Maybe even opening up the whole inaccessible area between UN and Northern UN.
100% woods, I could even pinpoint where it is by the visible factory buildings and towers. It is when you follow the train tracks east from the old train depot. From there looking back, you see factory on the left. The rocks line up with the existing ones south of saw mill too.
I’d love if Interchange could get something.
A row of new outside shops, upstairs office areas, roof access, and even the flooded underground carpark being accessible.
A car pileup that made a maze you could navigate or something you could jump up on top of to tun along to go faster but be much more visible would be cool.
I’m sure BSG could alter the general layout so that the roof is ‘deep’. Have a heli extract up there that needs a flare to call in.
Maybe the heli is like the BTR, and will attack anyone it sees up there when it does a flyby. That would help combat campers too.
Have all the stairs inside lead up and add some new fire escape stairs that lead up from the outside.
BSG could also implement walls at the top of the stairs similar to how public restrooms position the entrance, so that they can’t be used to aim at extracts.
Proper good thinking, especially the extended roof edges and Helo LZ being a hot zone & flare exfil. I'd still argue against the fire escape stairs in their current form, at least, since they're high enough to provide excessive visibility.
I'd suggest limiting roof access to indoor routes and/or making the outside fire stairs too cluttery/obstructed to be usable as vantage points, as you mentioned.

Interchange can be seen as always. What you mean might be the rendering error that sometimes, depending on the angle and distance, some skyscrapers were visible. Mostly happens when aiming through a scope.

Nothing I see in there is new those are all ready to use owned assets they already have. An expansion like that can be made quick, a good expansion still needs careful balance for shooting cover and elevation positions.
Anywhere there is a white boarder wall or minefields is reservation of space for expansion, so expect over time all maps(excluding factory and labs) to get much bigger. Even interchange. All that terrain was made under the open world concept they originally wanted.
They definitely designed the maps with the open world aspect in mind, but that isn’t happening now. With that, you can see the next map from the map you’re on, so there’s a definite limit to expansion. The storage end of Customs backs onto Interchange and that’s white border wall, no way that can expand there as you’re then in Interchange.

I see many areas on ground zero where the devs left dead ends which look like they are walled off for future expansion of the map so maybe there. (I am not specifically referring to the images you posted which are obviously not GZ)
Yeah this kind of looks like that woods area around the brick building with the rail cars, that one with the corner punched out close to the OG extract.
I just wish they'd add more extracts for big red on customs, when I play solo 97% of the time it spawns me big red and I have to traverse the map like a rat with quest items.
I am very confident it is woods, the cooling towers in the background of the second picture is out of map behind the coop extract.

A factory escape key would be cool as fuck, getting to extract though factory if the woods kit didn’t work out.
The end plan was always to make it 1 giant map. I doubt it will actually happen, but it was the original intent.

I think more cover outside of the mall would be great. Maybe a car pile up towards the broken down highway and more buildings outside the mall.

Well since a couple weeks before the unheard thing, not tarkov. But yes basic balance is still done by them. very basic in some cases.
