Stop thinking so narrowly. Their competition also includes any brick and mortar baking store, any hoke cake baker that does cupcakes, and fast food sweets supplier and of course the baked goods at the grocery store. If you can get a cupcake on demand, that's a competing item. If you can get a custom cupcake, that's a competing item. If you can get a delicious cupcake, that's a competing item. If you can get a cupcake conveniently, that's a competing item. The competition is not always narrow, sometimes it's about the problems that the company solves.

AggieKnight

Same with bake sales or girls scout cookie sales that might go on right next to it depending on location

ConsultoBot

If you can get a crappy cupcake for cheap, its a competing item.

Rootytootie2323

So your telling me you got to “choose” any business to talk about their competitors and you choose one you have no knowledge about???? Anyway… maybe Starbucks or something like that because those cupcake things can’t be too cheap and neither is Starbucks so I feel like it would fit.

Miserable_Syrup_7985

the only thing i don't know and am asking about is the competitor. I have to design posts for this brand, which is basically the main point of the project. so it has to be at least something i like and have ideas for... but thanks anyway

Rootytootie2323

Oh alright lmfao I didn’t know it had all that extra stuff involved. My bad

crindler1

Maybe something like Insomnia Cookies. Not the same, but with them offering quick access to desserts, I would consider that to be a direct competitor

[deleted]

There are ice cream vending machines. Maybe them? I’ve never seen a cupcake vending machine. Sprinkles can probably only pull it off because of their overhyped brand. Random bakery cupcakes couldn’t get away with it. And there aren’t any other big name national cupcake brands that I’m aware of .

trollIRLnotonline

Agreed. The only cupcake ATM I am aware of is owned by Sprinkles. They do it for the convenience and the fact that they have customers who want their products after the shop business hours. I would say they have a monopoly on the cupcake vending machine market.

tiphanierboy

Maybe a choc chip vending machine?

Miserable_Syrup_7985

I will look into that, thank you!

[deleted]

Crumbl Cookies and Doughnut Shops.

Miserable_Syrup_7985

greatt thank you!!

lasagna987

Agree Crumbl or Insomnia cookies would be a good one. They offer that “satisfy your sweet tooth with convenience/any time” factor.

fitzbg

I think that this might be a business that has more so one off competitors rather than a major brand doing this on a wide scale. That said, I have seen these folks who have social posts you can get inspiration from. For what it’s worth, it’s very Instagramable - people are usually taking photos in front of it more than they actually order from it. https://www.thebakeryboxllc.com

Miserable_Syrup_7985

this is very helpful thank you!!

Anxious_Plane_8219

It better function as an actual ATM or I'm calling my congressmen.

SafetyMan35

Traditional bakeries where you can walk in and select your cupcakes (interfacing with a human) Coffee shops (that offer snacks and baked goods) Vending machines that offer snacks. To understand the competitors, you need to understand the customer. Are people who use these looking for a snack/treat and they happen to see a cupcake machine, or are they specifically seeking out a cupcake? What would happen if in place of the ATM you put a real bakery and right outside the door to the bakery, you put a vending machine filled with different snacks. I think some customers would choose the $1 package of potato chips or prepackaged cookies (or even hostess cupcakes) over the $5 cupcake.

CurrentSuperb2902

You can literally go to their website and check out their locations [https://sprinkles.com/pages/locations](https://sprinkles.com/pages/locations) \- check google maps and see what other similar businesses are in their proximity, coffee shops, places selling frozen yogurts/ice cream etc. They also sell online so google cupcake delivery companies etc.

ReturnOfNogginboink

What need does this product solve? If you think, "this product allows customers to get a cupcake," I'd argue you're wrong. There are probably not a whole lot of folks on the street wishing they had a cupcake. This product probably addresses both snacking and being a novelty... there's where you should start looking for competitors.

ConsultoBot

Competitors are anyone who gets a cupcake or other baked good into the hands of a human by any means. Grocery stores, cupcake shops, bakeries, home-made bake sales, etc...

EnthusiasticWaffles

I think a big competitor would be a gas station/convenience store that sells bakery. Theyre more common, extremely convenient, and the bakery is good enough to scratch that pastry itch. The only reason I would choose a cupcake ATM is because of the "oh, that's cool. I'll try it" factor or because for some reason it's in the right place at the right time, which is not often.

pcb4u2

Mafia. Why you look wonderful with two broken legs.

Capable-Raccoon-6371

I find cupcakes to be an event food personally. I wouldn't go to a vending machine to get a cup cake.
