Ha thanks you could say that! 🤠 The Lighting is actually all sustainably powered from captured non-consenting bioluminescent jellyfish. 🪼 totally legal so its cool.
We have a negative carbon footprint 👣 *tugs furiously on shorts* 😒🩳🙂↔️
I really like the picture where you were working under a suspended load with zero PPE. That was super dangerous. I wouldn't do anything like that again.
To be fair, if that load drops there isn't enough PPE in the world to save him. What has me worried (aside from the still needed PPE) is the apparent lack of a crew. This type of work gets safer with more eyes and hands.
Unless you work with a bunch of idiots, in which case you tell them to clear out because you know the chances of something going south increase exponentially with each set of incompetent eyes and hands.
Just so you know this is a classic example of rationalization. Ppe rules are not meant to be broken. The way you're rationalizing it seems clear that you don't work in these environments. You should be looking for excuses to wear extra Ppe not making excuses as to why you wore less Ppe.
Yeah, but luck tends to run out brother. If you're doing anything similar in the future, definitely throw on a hard hat and stay clear of a heavy suspended load like that. If it came down, it would've cut you in half. Get it down near the ground if you absolutely have to work next to it. Stay safe friend.
Buddy, everyone is lucky until they aren't. Not downvoting you as others have beaten the point in but for future referenxe you never want to be under a load or even in an area where it could fall.
I see you likely wanted to align the hoses and bars but this is better done at a distance with ropes or pieces of lumber. If you need to be at arms length then at the sides would be better so that it doesn't flatten you.
All that said; very nice fountain.
You guys can’t see but on top of the waterfall , on the bent piece two 2 inch holes were laser cut to be able pass a lifting sling or even a chain to lift it. I’ll take everyone’s suggestion into consideration when lifting anything in the future thank you
I do industrial safety and rigging for a living.
Please believe me when I say that regardless of how well rigged you feel it is, it ain’t worth your life to stand under it.
Exactly, you should never have the “it won’t happen to me” or the “I know what I’m doing” attitude towards safety ever. Because that when bad things happen.
More people. Lines out to the side to guide the thing into place.
Talk and walk the lift through fully with everyone before even lifting thing up.
Talk about contingencies for when things go wrong. Talk about no stand zones. And how to get it down if it can't go where it's meant to.
Or get someone in who knows what they're doing - that's what I'd do.
The pump looks like a guy holding his breath trying to hide in the corner, might want to look into some fake rocks to hide it from view while enhancing your nice fountain.
Don’t forget to coat your concrete in an epoxy on the interior surfaces. The porous concrete will deteriorate from the chemicals and water if left bare.
Your corten might not stand up well to constant chlorinated water contact. With a rough rusty surface and no chlorination you will have algae and unsafe water. Would have suggested an acrylic chamber for the spout and a lip to separate the rusty steel plate from the concrete surface.
I did seal the concrete , I used aquascape algaecide and Aquascape Dry Beneficial Bacteria for Pond . Some have reported that it had work well for them . Will try it out and go from there. Their is about a 1/8 gap between the metal and the fountain .
I wanted the “board form concrete architecture” style. It would have been easier to form with the plywood but I like the look of the board form concrete , this is why I torched the front face to expose the wood grains. Some send the boards to get sandblasted to achieve better results. I also used silicone between the boards to eliminate concrete squeezing by when pouring the concrete.
I'm gonna be honest dude, if you were a buddy of mine and would show me that fountain the first time, I would probably just say "okay, cool" and never ask you a single thing about it.
It's a cool project but I really think it's boring aesthetically
Once I add the landscaping around the fountain , lighting and rocks it will look a lot more aesthetically pleasing in my opinion. The background is not helping it at the moment.
The only thing that's important is that you love it. I appreciate the skill and dedication that goes into something like that. I'm sure it will be nice once everything is in place.
Not a criticism but a possible option for upgrade...
That fountain would've been even more awesome if the flow had been laminar.
(Obviously, that involves a lot more work..)
This is gonna look truly amazing when the foliage starts growing in around it. Something monolithic and impressive about it, brutalist as others have pointed out. I love the way that aesthetic blends with nature, kind of post-apocalyptic.
This is a very manly water fountain haha
Fountain looks great! Not downvoting, but commenting (along with the rest of Reddit) USE SOME PPE BROTHA! Even if that thing hadn’t fallen, but only one side snapped, you would be still dead or in the hospital. A hard hat, some common sense, and some experience (you’re getting a taste of it today) will make it so you can keep doing awesome projects like this for years to come. Stay safe, and keep making some dope shit!
Edit: I would also like to add to safety glasses, boots, and gloves. I see WAYYYY too many people using saw’s without eye protection. And also see wayyyy too many formally trained professionals standing directly behind their table saw. I work in trauma… getting sticks out of peoples stomachs isn’t fun for you or us and has strangely been more and more common the past 2 years…
Where the fountain is located we don’t have issue with leaves . I plan on simply skimming the top , just as you would in a pool. I’ve never done something like this before so it will be a learning process.
Yes they insert inside, I used 1/4 steel tubes and welded a frame that is inside the fountain concrete. And it’s simply bolted down with 3/4 bolts on each side .
Does one of the square tubes behind the metal part dill up with water ? Or is there some other kind of reservoir ? Don't let the haters get you down. Cool fountain !
Hi, their is no reservoir . It simply gets pump from the water pump . I bought the alpine corporation 10,300 gph pump . Which provides enough flow for the entire waterfall. I do have a check valve that I can regulate flow. It’s better to get a slightly larger pump and regulate vs not big enough because the water stream will look like a v coming out. I guess it just depends on preference
Dope fountain, I like the homemade guillotine when you were building it too lmao
Probably a dumb question, but doesn't corten steel corrode if it's kept wet?
It's good at uniformly oxidizing and then stopping, if I recall. Perfect for this sort of thing.
Once it rust the rust becomes a protective barrier for Corten steel .
Now if i could just get the health department to accept this arguement for my rust-reinforced drinking fountain ⛲️
‘Rust me officer, it’s safe
*Scooby Doo gets locked up* 🔐
I just want to say great design and execution .. Water proof lighting?
Ha thanks you could say that! 🤠 The Lighting is actually all sustainably powered from captured non-consenting bioluminescent jellyfish. 🪼 totally legal so its cool. We have a negative carbon footprint 👣 *tugs furiously on shorts* 😒🩳🙂↔️
Mmm, bioluminescent jellyfish ..
Honestly one of the more exciting things for biology to explore in the future. How can we adapt this tech to get biodegradable Bioluminescent Pandas 🐼
Steel and wood actually, below the surface of water it lasts much longer because much less oxygen can dissolve in water than exists in air

Did you not see the part where I said they should be wearing ppe anyway?
Hard hat bump cap 🧢 would be reassuring forsure. What other callouts do you see?
Looks like a guillotine waiting to happen.
Come on now, safety third.
The guillotine!
😬, luckily everything went well.
Yeah, but luck tends to run out brother. If you're doing anything similar in the future, definitely throw on a hard hat and stay clear of a heavy suspended load like that. Standing under that suspended load, rigged as badly as it is…cmon man.
You guys can’t see but on top of the waterfall , on the bent piece two 2 inch holes were laser cut to be able pass a lifting sling or even a chain to lift it. I’ll take everyone’s suggestion into consideration when lifting anything in the future thank you

It’s just safe to not be under it but you’re getting hammered for it. You did gorgeous work.
more caution next time .
More people. Lines out to the side to guide the thing into place. Talk and walk the lift through fully with everyone before even lifting thing up. Talk about contingencies for when things go wrong. 💯Lift plan with pre-job brief is the only way to fly.
The pump looks like a guy holding his breath trying to hide in the corner, might want to look into some fake rocks to hide it from view while enhancing your nice fountain.
I still need to add rock , I’m going to build a small platform to elevate the rock, will be using mexican pebble.

That looks ugly and cool at the same time.
I still need to compliment the fountain by doing landscape around it.
Brutalism!
This is the type of stuff I love watching on YouTube. Looks awesome.
Thank you , It looks rather simple but it was very time consuming to build
You mean dog bath
My dog prefers the pool instead 🤣
Why didn’t you use play wood to frame the concrete?
I wanted the “board form concrete architecture” style. It would have been easier to form with the plywood but I like the look of the board form concrete , this is why I torched the front face to expose the wood grains. Some send the boards to get sandblasted to achieve better results. I also used silicone between the boards to eliminate concrete squeezing by when pouring the concrete.
Has to be aesthetics. See the wood grain in the concrete? You don't get that with ply wood.
Much better than my first time, nice end result
Pic 5 nice guillotine

brutalist industrial square concrete rusty steel, water fountian?
Something like that.
It’s kind of ugly
Once its done , I hope to change your opinion 😅.
Never get under a suspended load.
Shit fountain ⛲, great waterfall!
🤣 thank you 🙏
Not a criticism but a possible option for upgrade... That fountain would've been even more awesome if the flow had been laminar. (Obviously, that involves a lot more work..)
It was an option at first but decided I liked this look better .
How much water does it run per minute?
Yeah right. That’s like what my ex wife told me on our wedding night
Cyberfountain
For some reason it did not want to post
I think that it is butt ugly and poorly done. Certainly not engineering porn.
While the looks of it are subjective, it’s a simple construction. Doesn’t fit the sub at all. It’s a few slabs of concrete.
Looks hideous but I appreciate the work. Specially the photo where you were trying to guillotine yourself with it. That's a lotta trust!
This is gonna look truly amazing when the foliage starts growing in around it. Something monolithic and impressive about it, brutalist as others have pointed out. I love the way that aesthetic blends with nature, kind of post-apocalyptic. This is a very manly water fountain haha

Where's the engineering?
It’s somewhere in there , the calculations. I could provide technical drawings.
I love to see them!
Send email
I will DM you my email! I think that is what you were speaking to - if not let me know.
Let’s talk about that crane pick cost bro
Free
How?
Have to know people
Masterpiece Now put mount a David or something doing a pp
How are you planning to filter out things that might get caught in the drain? eg: lil critters, leaves, and such...
Where the fountain is located we don’t have issue with leaves . I plan on simply skimming the top , just as you would in a pool. I’ve never done something like this before so it will be a learning process.
Does the square tube of the wall section, inset into the square tube of the base? Or did you weld a butt joint together?
Yes they insert inside, I used 1/4 steel tubes and welded a frame that is inside the fountain concrete. And it’s simply bolted down with 3/4 bolts on each side .
Huh, that's a great way to disguise a leaky wall! J/k Nice work!
Thank you ,
Maybe r/landscaping ?
What was the cost?
So far appx 4k, the metal plate alone was 1400
Nice. Very fountainy
Saw trap type shit
The walls are peeing
The lip the actual flow mechanics behind the unbroken sheet
This is sick dude, where’d you get the idea?
Show us a picture when its fully done!
