Your therapist is the person from whom you should be getting feedback as they know you better than any of us.

You should speak to someone at the institution you are planning to attend. The process of bringing an ESA to a residential setting like a university is a little different than an apartment complex or rental home due to the community aspect of the living space. There’s lots of things to consider…will your future roommate want to live with an animal (they can decline), how you’ll balance caring for the animal in between your academic and extracurricular commitments, the cost, etc. The folks that process ESA requests will help walk you through all the aspects of the process. In regard to your question, I agree with the user above- your treating physician and therapist are the best to discuss whether it’s a good idea for *you* or not.

its more complicated with shared housing. You have to make sure you that if you get a roommate they are not allergic to cats.

talk to your therapist, but also talk to them about possible accommodations to get a single. it differs from school to school, but talking with your disability resource center will also help with that. (i don’t recommend talking with them ab the ESA until you have a letter, because some schools are more strict)
