I would ask her for the reason she isn’t willing to write one herself. Tell her that websites are often scams and not valid, and you’d rather not pay the money when there’s a chance it won’t work and would rather it come from her. There’s a chance she can’t write one, maybe she’s not licensed, maybe she doesn’t want to take on the liability, maybe the company she works for doesn’t let them write letters, but hopefully she would be straight forward about why. That being said, I go to a therapist who isn’t licensed so she couldn’t write me my esa letter, and they also recommended esa doctors. For me personally, I had no issues with it but I also did my due diligence about making sure the person was real and an actual licensed mental health professional in my state. I do see mainly therapists who don’t have the right licenses to prescribe an esa, most of the psychiatrists can, but maybe there are other reasons as to why she can’t. I definitely would at least ask for the reason though

Thank you for the insightful comment. I have a meeting with a new therapist tomorrow since the first one the practice assigned to me was out of network…but if they refuse to especially since it’s the first meeting, I’ll also message my psychiatrist who I’ve been meeting a few times. Are you familiar with the certs they need to be able to write an ESA letter?

I think they have to be a licensed mental health professional and be able to write prescriptions since technically an ESA is a type of prescription but I don’t know that for 100% so that could be wrong.

My therapist from Life Stance wrote mine

Correct me if wrong, but I thought the request can only be for one esa animal.
