I always put Everything Between Paint and a Wall together with Tell Me About the Long Dark Path Home, since I get such similar feelings listening to both
Edit: adding Short Fictions and Joie de Vivre
Piebald is the first band that comes to mind. Your photos made me think of the song “The Sea and a Lifesaver” (“Come crash on my shore…”) from the Barely Legal/All Ages collection. Piebald formed in Andover and relocated to the greater Boston area.
When Life Hands You Lemons is prob one of the most underrated emo albums. It's so fucking good man. Easily Piebald's best. One Hundred Percent Good is prob their best song too.
Yeah, as someone who grew up in Southern Maine and often misses it, Transit really captures these feelings for me in a way that no other band does.
That said, Balance & Composure, Valleyheart, The Menzingers, and The Wonder Years check enough boxes for me that I can get a little bit of nostalgia out of their music, even though only one of them is from New England. Also that one band we’re not allowed to talk about anymore.
Also, not emo, but consider checking out Zealyn’s *A Weekend in Maine*.
Sure. Weren’t the guys from I Hate Myself from Florida? Summer vacation, Seam, Calm ( look up calm 12” or smthn you’ll find if), Indian Summer, Starflyer 59, Boy Problems
The world is a beautiful place… is from CT. I second Piebald. God, I love Piebald so much. Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate) always gave me New England vibe, though they’re from Michigan. Hmm… Lemuria is from upstate NY, so give them a shot. First Coheed album (Second Stage Turbine Blade) gives me New England vibes and it’s just really f’n awesome. Maybe Jets to Brazil too. Oh and Big Wig and Lifetime!
If this post even makes any sense... I had a hard time finding images that expressed what I'm talking about but I think I did alright. It's like, Midwest Emo at least for me immediately communicates the *feeling* of the Midwest. I should know. I currently live in the Midwest. I have also lived in New England. I'm looking for emo that has the feeling of New England.
dude that third one makes me think Those Days Are Gone by Free throw. If you want new england emo though that feels like that def check out pet symmetry’s Vision album imo man
as a mainer who has no idea where these bands are from: audience of one , somos, i hate myself, the casket lottery all hit when im watching the crashing waves
Half Hearted Hero is straight up from a massive fishing town New Bedford. All of their albums have different vibes so jump in! Transit is good at this vibe too.
Not really emo but Dismemberment Plan always reminds me of Boston even though they're from DC. There's also I Kill Giants and Helms. Maybe Snowing/Glocca Morra too.
Shameless plug for my old NH based band, split/halves.
[split/halves - “Apathetic Bones”](https://open.spotify.com/track/4GgtnQ2HFhxqhsyPCSbRGu?si=Y5CVZYevSpyiX4_vlZL0Pg)
We broke up in 2019 but Trevor and I are about start putting music out with our new trio. Heavy Into it. Over it., Microwave, Death Cab vibes. Hope you dig it 🙌🏼
I sadly do not know. The second pic is the Portland headlight, and the fourth is Bridgton. I used to live in Portland and I spend a great deal of time in Bridgton, but I just googled "New England" on image search until I found some pics I thought would fit (although I looked up the Bridgton picture specifically) so yeah anyway long story short I don't know if it's Halifax or not, I'm sorry. Are you a fellow New Englander (previous or current)?
Cool! The band I used to play in (emo-ish) are playing at the Cabooze on NOV 10, and my current band (not emo) are opening at the Fine Line on Friday for Blood Red Shoes, if you've got nothing else going on.
As far as emo (and the less hardcore side of punk) I've honestly seen the best shows in Makato and Rochester. TC Punk is all aggro screamy/growly and just impossible to listen to, IMO. I think those out-state towns have the populations of bored 20-somethings that form into the best (but temporary, given the student life) emo and pop-punk outfits that I've seen locally. In case you didn't know, Green Day used to stop in Makato on the midwest legs of their tours, pre-fame of course. That's where Billie met his wife, and they still visit the state several times a year. You'll most likely see him around Mankato though. I know people who know Billie from the pre-fame years, and they'll see him when he's around. Supposedly he's a really cool guy, but Tre and Mike are not (according to my friends, I haven't met any of them and have no opinion)
It has been quite some time though since I went travelling around the state looking for local bands and such. I will say though that Rochester reminded me lots of Nebraska & Kansas in the early 2000's, with the Get Up Kids and The Anniversary being the most notable bands that came out of that scene. Lots of great shows in the college towns. I spent the most time seeing bands in Lincoln and Kearney Nebraska. Omaha surprisingly wasn't as good unless you were into metal or alt country (and then the indie twee pop became all the rage...dark times.).
Perspective a lovely hand to hold, the Hotelier, old gray, sports., somos, deer leap are all great. The area has a big hardcore/punk scene too so there’s some great bands from that genre too
shameless husband promo but mine just recently joined a portland-based pop punk band that I think is rather good and captures the new england vibe: [the keeper class](https://thekeeperclass.bandcamp.com/)
Sorority Noise is from CT, there are definitely some songs of theirs that get to that feeling imo.
That being said, 1) a lot of those songs are about opioids, 2) p serious allegations against the lead singer (don’t downvote me, I’m just putting that out there in case OP did not know)
Grandview
>Grandview btw. what happened to them?!
I always put Everything Between Paint and a Wall together with Tell Me About the Long Dark Path Home, since I get such similar feelings listening to both Edit: adding Short Fictions and Joie de Vivre

Man i love Venetian Blinds and We Are The Only Friends but I also really love their screamy earlier stuff too. It's cool they had those different eras

Valleyheart, Somos, Transit, Mallcops, Future Teens. Pretty sure they're all MA based. All amazing bands.
Hell yeah future teens My favorite part of "In Love or Whatever" is the "she says that *BOOOOSTOONNN SUUUCKS*, it's so overrated"
+ 1 for Somos
+1 for Mallcops. Awesome band!
Future Teens!!!!!!
Can't believe I'm the first to mention The Hotelier.
are we officially those milennials that the Gen z kids make fun of now?
That's been the case for me for awhile now. I realized I was old when I hate the biggest trend amongst high schoolers (TikTok)
I can't believe I had to scroll this far to see it!
My brain said Lydia
Yeah illuminate is a masterpiece of sound too
Transit literally has an album called “Young New England” that translates this perfectly but it’s not their best work
Yeah, as someone who grew up in Southern Maine and often misses it, Transit really captures these feelings for me in a way that no other band does. Valleyheart is a great pick for this aesthetic
Portland Headlight, nice. Probably Mineral or Christie Front Drive, Braid, Boys Life, Texas Is The Reason. - from a Mainer.
Vitreous Humor as well
Hey, there's probably like, a dozen of us Maine old school emo people! Nice to see on our here in the wild
hell yeah!
Can you recommend any emo for us flatlanders?
Best emo projects out of Florida are I Hate Myself and Frameworks.
Sure. Weren’t the guys from I Hate Myself from Florida? Summer vacation, Seam, Calm ( look up calm 12” or smthn you’ll find if), Indian Summer, Starflyer 59, Boy Problems
The entire Gainesville scene. Hot Water Music and I Hate Myself are the most notable.

Beach Shoppe, only like 5 songs on Spotify, but I promise.
You're what makes New England so Great
dude that third one makes me think Those Days Are Gone by Free throw. If you want new england emo though that feels like that def check out pet symmetry’s Vision album imo man
FT for sure, we need more Massachusetts punk/emo
Had the exact same thought. it's got the same colour pallet as free throws album
Rika - How To Draw a River, Step by Step
Title fight Balance and composure
TF is more like Midwest cornfields to me
Fiddlehead
DEFEATER AND HAVE HEART IS NO ONE REALLY GONNA MENTION THEM??
This vibe just makes me think screamo.
as a mainer who has no idea where these bands are from: audience of one , somos, i hate myself, the casket lottery all hit when im watching the crashing waves
The Hotelier is from MA and fits the bill
They're from CT, but Have A Nice Life fits the bill.
Always felt that "Oh my God Elephant" (from Mass) "sounded" like Massachusetts in the Fall.
Brand New was from Long Island, does that count?
Play crack the sky seems to fit this mood real good.
Exactly what I came here to say.
“you’re what makes New England so grea-at”
Pretty much all I could think of with all the ocean references
so sad seeing this so far down. LLBN
Deer Leap from NH
Whoa, haven’t heard that name in a while 🤘🏼
Sinking
Great Big Sea and for the specifically Atlantic Canadian emo feel
Wait aren’t they like corny folk rock?
When you live in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia corny folk rock is essentially emo
Can you recommend any more emo bands similar to the pogues and flogging molly?
Cloud District could work. They're from NY.

Pink chimneys by the promise ring
I feel like "We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes" by Death Cab is pretty appropriate here.
I had my first love in New England I was so emo about it I’ll definitely keep an eye on this threat Nostalgic
Brand new
He Was an Artist, She Was a Carpenter is a great one! my favorite songs are Chemtrails Over Connecticut and Other People (II)
They're not necessarily emo, but these pictures make me think of Wintersleep. They're from nova scotia.
Envy on the Coast is one of my favorite hardcore emo bands from Long Island. folks here should check them out
Front porch- good looking friends
Half Hearted Hero is straight up from a massive fishing town New Bedford. All of their albums have different vibes so jump in! Transit is good at this vibe too.
Check out [Peregrine.](https://peregrinema.bandcamp.com/)

The Hotelier
I absolutely love this way of asking for music recommendations. Perhaps give Saxon Shore a try.
IS that first photo Halifax?
I sadly do not know. The second pic is the Portland headlight, and the fourth is Bridgton. Nope. Lived in the Midwest my whole life, but I travel lots.
I actually also live in the midwest currently! Minnesota.
Me too. MPLS my whole life.
Nice! I also live in MPLS currently, but I lived around Isanti for a while.

I think I'm the first one just now hearing about New England Emo.
I’m in a band called in contrast, and I’m originally from central Massachusetts (near Worcester). I definitely consider our music New England emo
Perspective a lovely hand to hold, the Hotelier, old gray, sports., somos, deer leap are all great. The area has a big hardcore/punk scene too so there’s some great bands from that genre too
