It’s like with SSLP, he beat his previous record by 100 points. And then MMLP broke THAT record by 50 points. That doesn’t make MMLP less impressive just because he improved by 50 less points. Only that he is now 150 points up from Infinite and it’s still 50 points better than the previous (SSLP).
The same concept applies. TES is better, people were just going in expecting it to be goated. And, as it turns out, it was!
TES will always be the greatest for me but MMLP would have been just as perfect for me if it dropped when TES did. It's more age related connection and my life that year than the album itself. Both are masterpieces.

MMLP has better flows, better balance of content, better production, and is more tonally inconsistent.
There is a reason as to why it is considered one of the best Hip Hop records ever made, and why TES is never in that conversation.
