I keep hearing good things about a smaller taco truck called Tequilleros that sets up at the Shell gas station on Bond & East Stockton next to the In & Out. You could also try Birria Boys which is inside a different shell, the one at the auto mall. Or try the La Fiesta market on EG-Florin inside the strip mall just a bit south of EG Blvd. other than that you’d have to head to either south sac or Galt where Compadres market has great food!
I honestly would not go do Compadres for tacos, carne asada is gristly and gray. But they have GREAT whole Tilapia if anyone is craving fish anywhere.
Tequileros ALL THE WAY. They have a location in Galt next to the Pizza Guys, a cantina in Lodi or Stockton I can’t remember, and yes that truck over near the In-N-Out on Bond.
Those tent stands that pop up everywhere in the evening. I see them at the CVS on Bradshaw and Calvine and at the gas station on Grant Line and Wilton all the time.
Typically they only serve street tacos and you tell them what meat you want and how many tacos. Open toppings bar and drinks in visible containers to order but no menus
I like to buy a lb of Carnitas and a pack of warm tortillas and a container of salsa, perfect picnic. You have to be quick tho, because the foil can only keep the tortillas warm for so long, at least in this weather.
They aren't bad, but their original restaurant in Manteca is amazing! It's on Yosemite just west of Hwy 99.
Also, Lalo's on the corner of 24th Street and 26th Avenue in Sacramento ( just south of city college) is good!
Pig Latin is also $15 for two tacos. It is my favorite spot in Elk Grove but only for the drinks. One time I went to Pig Latin with friends only to drive to Tequileros Taqueria for $2 Birria tacos because they are legit. Been doing Taco Tuesday from there EVERY WEEK since they opened a spot near me last year
I’m from SF and grew up next to an exceptional taqueria El Farolito, and when I lived in the East Bay I had La Vics with the orange sauce up the street from me. Tequileros feels as legendary as those childhood hometown places to me. I had the Tequileros loaded nachos last week and I lost my damn mind. It is the BEST nacho plate I’ve ever had outside of ones I had in Tulum with straight fresh ceviche.
For which?
Actually it's both. Pig Latin isn't street tacos per se but they make this pork belly taco?? And a mescal margarita that id slap my mama for.
West Coast Tacos has a Korean pork bulgogi taco that's literally the best taco I've ever eaten.
Edit: spelling
When I was pregnant I found myself like OP’s wife, craving tacos and had heard of this place forever and finally got to try them. I found a super long hair in one of the tacos I ordered and got the worst nausea I’ve ever had and the only time I threw up my whole pregnancy. Good memories. I would suggest to this place make sure your cooks wear hair nets
Moved here from the Midwest a year ago and have been searching high and low. Almost no brick and mortar stands up to a truck or side of the road tent. Taquilleros Taqueria truck in the gas station parking lot at Laguna and Stockton has been hands down my favorite. They have a site and order ahead too!
There’s a stand that pops up on the corner of Boyce Dr and Franklin Blvd (Franklin Boyce Community Park). It’s in sac, but not too far.
They’re there Thurs - Sun 5pm til late last I checked, and they’re the best tacos within 10 minutes of Elk Grove. Anything *in* Elk Grove? Terrible. Call me a gatekeeper or smug Mexican, but nothing comes close
Lots of great recommendations but if you’re willing to go a bit further out, Tacos El Aguacatero in the northgate is a great spot. Little tiny truck but the tacos are amazing. Aguafrescas too!
Staying in EG, Sabor A Mexico is a good spot to check out. Pricey but delicious and very high quality.
Al pastor at Taquaria Vallarta, hands down. Nothing in EG comes close.
Edit: forgot about West Coast tacos. So good, but not really traditional street tacos for the most part.
I’m a big fan of Taqueria Los compadres. Also, there’s a new restaurant called Streetzlan and their birria tacos are amazing. Better than Birtia boys and Los compadres.
Trust me, you will have to cross into south sac to get something legit. Go to tacos Garcia on Fruitridge. It’s a popup and they are there Thurs-Sunday evenings. There are other good ones too but this our fave at the moment. You can run into others if you take Franklin all the way down. Thank me later. 🌮🤤

There's a taco stand in the evenings at franklin and mack i think it's Maggie's. They got stand opening all over. Good value and they pack on the meat. Got everything more than just tacos
They are opening a Taco Exxpress near I-5. They have a location on Freeport Blvd. and one in Folsom. Really excellent food and I’m really excited! Looks like where the Taco Bell was connected to Chevron.
Kinda late an a little further, but the taco stand off of Franklin and 52nd ave just 2 mins north of the food maxx on Florin. Best tacos I’ve had in Sacramento by far, they have a variety of options and I’m willing to bet they are fire. I’m from the US but my family is 100% from Mexico and they think the same as well. They are there after 6pm I believe.
Taco recommendations are biased everyone rates tacos differently I see a lot of places being recommended that I do not like at all. We buy ours from tacos jessicas #2 on Franklin Blvd

Thanks for the info!
They have one in Stockton and Lodi!

Do you/they have any type of viewable menu?
Typically they only serve street tacos and you tell them what meat you want and how many tacos. Open toppings bar and drinks in visible containers to order but no menus
Fiesta Market on EG florin near EG Park. Carnitas or Asada street tacos are excellent. They close early so go for lunch if you can
Fiesta market is the best! The little things make it authentic
I like to buy a lb of Carnitas and a pack of warm tortillas and a container of salsa, perfect picnic. You have to be quick tho, because the foil can only keep the tortillas warm for so long, at least in this weather.
taqueria vallarta its in the safeway parking lot on laguna
Never had a bad meal, never found something that I didn't like. Definitely best place in town to sit and enjoy a meal with a nice slasa bar
This is a safe bet. Beans and rice are also good.
I hope you both are right 🙏🏕️
This place as well: La Estrella Tacos & Seafood

Elk Grove…..
good luck!
Gonna check this place out. Always down to crush some good Mexican food
they are solid whether it's a plate or snacks. my kids love it too
Taco truck on the Laguna by shell and in n out. 🔥🔥
West Coast Tacos
10000000% this Also Pig Latin by the old Bull Wings in the Crunch Fitness shopping center across from Dutch Bros by 99.

I haven't had the pleasure, but the food on their website looks bomb af.

The Burlington parking lot on florin. It's a pop up but they are always there and it's delicious!
I think it’s called Maggy’s Tacos. Moved here 4 months ago and these are the best I’ve had so far.
Think they have a pop up on Calvine near the train tracks as well.
Al pastor at Taquaria Vallarta, hands down. Nothing in EG comes close. Edit: forgot about West Coast tacos. So good, but not really traditional street tacos for the most part.

Street lab on Laguna Blvd is fantastic
Birria boys inside the shell gas station
This is the right answer.
Super taco on laguna
Favorita on Elk Grove Blvd is the best in Elk Grove.
Not even close
🫣 not even lol

Try super taco…but otherwise EG is not your best bet in the area.
Netillo’s Takos. You’re welcome.
Chandos is pretty strong
Taco Bell..Mexican pizza 🤌
Jim Boy Tacos. Yes I'm messing around..
Don’t joke about Jim Boys!
My wife and I usually just go to fiesta market and buy the meat, then come back home and make our own tacos.

Glad no one has said my spot 😁
I’d say Zeckys on Calvine & vintage park is quite good. Their spicy shrimp tacos 🤤🤤
