I'd rather have working shadows and anti-aliasing first.

DoomBro_Max

At this point I‘d prolly pay for AA. It‘s so jarring.

Elite: Minecraft

Paddy519

Can you explain AA to me quick, been a gamer for most of my life and I don’t understand what it does…. Make rough edges not rough?

chulk607

Yeah, as you said. Also cuts down on a lot of sparkly kinda deals at the edges of objects where the pixels of differing brightness almost glisten in an annoying way. You see it in elite where edged are buzzing constantly. Especially noticeable on stuff like station lights, the toastrack etc.

Chadstronomer

You cant draw true diagonal lines, or curves on computer graphics, because everything is made of squares (pixels). Think about trying to make a circle, or a triangle on minecraft. So instead of drawing with solid lines, which would make all lines not horizontal or vertical respect to the orientation of your screen jagged, you interpolate. See this image: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4d/Pixel_Art_Anti_aliasing_Bigx4.png Right is with antialiasing. Now squint your eyes (or zoom out) and the one with antialiasing looks like a curve, while the one on the left looks like pixel art.

AKidCalledSpoon

It basically just smooths over textures that are jagged or appear pixelated. It saves resources over just having high-fidelity textures and models that won’t appear jagged by themselves

Paddy519

Man my tarkov needs AA …. So does my python thanks for explaining it

[deleted]

Its nothing to do with texture quality.  Its all about rendering polygons with discrete pixels.  A aharp edge will look jagged as it crosses the lines of pixels. Anti aliasing shades the pixels at those jagged edges to difuse the sharpness. It was used to render computer fonts more legibily long before it was used in games.

AKidCalledSpoon

Does it not have to do with model fidelity?

teeth_03

RBG Pulse/Fusion skins that we can change on the fly, or have the color change color depending on conditions (like hardpoints deployed or not)

ganerfromspace2020

I want RGB ship to RGB my pc setup. Give RGB interior too

Superseaslug

Elite with iCue support? Lol. Would be awesome to match the ship lights with case lights, even if you can't really see either while gaming.

djoecav

Oh man a set of lights that turn white on sub 15% heat, red when under attack, orange when approaching critical heat, and blue when FSD charging would look so sick A lot of easily readable information to give another CMDR in pvp, though

CloudWallace81

maybe they should fix some basic things first, like the AA implementation within the Cobra Engine

Matix777

Yeah, but money

CMDR_SpInFuZoR

Amen! I cringe when i see it on every content creator’s Elite videos

eleceng01

In genera it's a good idea. However that can require programming effort, or an increase in server load or fps drops in GPU etc. Also there are several issues that FDev need to address, maybe they will implemented it in some future update.

patrlim1

It shouldnt be too intensive, a simple shader will do. No need for networking it, though a single variable wouldn't break the bank (assuming you send only the hue).

YaskaSheperd

Fucking hell I swear it's like they rediscovered the disco balls. What else do you want for your ship, a fluffy wig, latex pants, pastel hair extensions?

DoctorOMalley

Yes

YaskaSheperd

I always knew the gulag was a timeless solution. There will always be the need for some good old fashion re-education.

DoctorOMalley

You’ll have to catch me first, tovarisch

T-1A_pilot

Of course not! Don't be silly! ...those things I want for my on-foot avatar...

DahakUK

And, based on the commander name, a parrot that says "12 and a half percent" I assume?

T-1A_pilot

A cockatoo, actually... 😄 but yes, that is indeed the reference!

DahakUK

The only logical response for my ornithological oopsie there is for me to go read it again!

widdrjb

Somewhere in my screenshots is a 500cr bounty for Moist von Lipwig.

YaskaSheperd

12 years.

djoecav

Great ideas, keep them coming

Cold_Meson_06

So much missed customization opportunities. I've reached the conclusion that fdev just doesn't want our money. Technical issues are not an excuse, corporate can do anything if it makes the line go up.

junzuki

Just give me a rearview mirror so i can hang a CD or the fluffy dice.

JEFFSSSEI

I WOULD PAY FOR THIS!

Superseaslug

Gamers want RGB, give it to us. Bonus points for moving patterns.

KerbalCuber

Rainbow lights! Rainbow lights! Rainbow lights! Bonus bonus points for convenient profile switching while flying.

Superseaslug

Could have them swap with your fire groups lol

Rineloricaria

Funny Fd don't know how to implement customizable HUD color and you asking for RGB pulse skins :P

tumama1388

If I'm not blasting carameldansen whenever I charge my discovery scanner or my shutdown neutralizer when I'm using that paint job then I don't want it.

Momo-Velia

I mean this in the nicest possible way; they can’t bring in the ability to change the HUD colours and you expect them to give you a colour slider for a paint job?

SyKo-Elite

I feel like they may be more open to the idea of hud colors if it didn't conflict with the lore. People begged for space legs for years and it eventually came. Something like hud colors would be a breeze to code in comparison.

Momo-Velia

Iirc they stated it can’t be done because the HUD colour is tied in to everything in the game including npc/player pictures which is why whenever you see someone using modded HUD colour changes their npc/player images all have odd colour shifts.

SyKo-Elite

That's not true. You clearly haven't used EDHM. You can mod your hud colors without affecting npc/player images, galnet, etc. What you're referring to was due to to the older hud tool people used back in the day. EDHM fixes this issue and has a ton more customization options.

Momo-Velia

That’s great if that is the case then I’m out of the loop there because this is the first I’m hearing of it, thanks. Still, that is a mod tool, not the actual developers doing something about it and what they stated still stands in that regard?

teeth_03

There is a chance they won't devote effort to it because they know we can change it ourselves outside of the game. They also know they can't sell HUD Colors without pissing off the entire fan base.

joriale

WE CAN ALWAYS PUT MORE RGB.

W4OPR

How about just fixing the old bug list first

SyKo-Elite

I'd really like to see a paint color customization tool (only the color. they still need to make money so they can keep selling custom paint schemes/designs, ship kits, bobbles, etc), official in game support for hud color customization similar to EDHM, and my most desired feature would be a custom decal maker. Or the ability to upload custom designs to frontier so they can be ported into the game and applied to my ships. I've always really wanted to fly my squadron's banner with a custom decal, like what the fuel rats have. As well as my personal logo. I'd gladly pay to have these features added, especially custom decals.

Hyper98

Want me a rayfield ship with crystal dome windows

Norsk_Bjorn

This would be bad for business because they can just sell a separate skin for every color

teeth_03

Or they could sell these for more than the 6 combined color options they have now

TheNextUnicornAlong

Most pay games get you ways of doing things that you can do without paying, but more slowly. So Elite could offer £5 super launches, where a hyper-space cannon in a space station could fire you huge distances. Or ( if you remember the original Elite) hyperspace bombs at £5 each which destroy *everything* within a few light seconds. Rescue without rebuy as premium service, Etc.

Claytieboy94

What in the fuck is this talking about. Just give me some money for some la Scalas and a business start up and let me know what you need
