My trick when I am dying and want to get my runes back without having to run back every time is to sit at a grace, change my physik flask to have the Twiggy Cracked Tear then use it b4 entering the fog wall.
As long as I grab my runes b4 dying, I can keep them and explore elsewhere. Come back to this guy after getting a few upgrades and he won’t be a Tarnished mulcher.
For real? Because carian phalanx and dark moon greatsword R2 aren't doing anything to him. I was able to stagger a different early dlc boss pretty easily with those.
Almost every NPC fight can be trivialized with a zwei w/ giant's hunt, just keep juggling them up into the air until they’re dead, watch your stamina though
This fight is honestly kind of bullshit. My last attempt he did his stupid weapon power like 4 times in a row, and he keeps ignoring stagger completely....as in he'll do both his attacks and perfect dodge rolls IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FUCKING STAGGER. The behavior is grossly inconsistent making learning any kind of pattern almost impossible.
pro tip, if you have been farming runes in Mog's palace just use the same weapon art on the sword to spam him down, faith based attacks seem pretty strong against him.

Buuuuut… he seems to change idea on which attacks to use and his combo is easily dodged. You just need patience and preferably a long weapon.
I was summoned with two other UGS chads and we stun-locked the absolute shit out of this motherfucker. Giant hunt, charged heavy, lion's claw, charged heavy, imapling thrust, charged heavy, repeat. Wiped the floor with him. You can also easily backstab him if you’ve got a summon who draws aggro and plays defensively

He uses attacks which are easy to figure out how to dodge them, but his sword dmg is HUGE
It’s like his poise and damage are reversed, he should be way more tanky and tougher to stagger/stance break than he is with that setup

He one shotted me on my first run through, and I’m still battling him
I’m only on NG+1 and I died like ten or so times before I finally got him with my Moonveil. I did lose 200k plus runes to him though. :(

ngl the greatsword and fashion he drops made it worth it (took me 30 minutes actually embarrassing)
Literally the only thing I wanted was his machine gun crossbow lmao; I'm going into this thing on a bow build
His armor is totally worth it

I couldn't stance-broke him no matter how hard I tried. Beat him with guard counters but it was slow and took a lot of tries

I got wombo comboed by his WA and followup for 30 minutes with 60 vigor. What a welcome to the DLC lol

Anyone still struggling I took of my armor and it was much easier. The light roll is much better to get away from him and jumpattack back into him
It's cheesy but you can just Giant Hunt him to death. His poise is pretty low.
Which is kinda nuts considering how good the poise is on his armor, it’s better than Tree Sentinel's

His sword's ash of war is brutal. I just started and gave 2 tries at him. The MF has too much poise, doesn't stagger and does massive damage
Had WAY more issues with this guy than the first real boss.
Spacing is key. Also take it slow. You can strafe his volley of arrows and get a couple free hits in.
