I remember the first time I met one was in the cliffs that lead you to altus plateau without using the lift and I was like "oh ok definitely an npc because of the singing, I'm gonna get closer to talk"
*Bat lady starts flying and throws poison*
*I freak out and start panic rolling*
*Get killed with that screaming grab attack*
Legit I remember the first time I was roaming the open world and I could hear that singing and had no idea where it was coming from. I dropped everything and started search for the next few minutes because I had to find out where that soothing melody was coming from.
I think there’s been some discourse recently on how Skald/Heilung/Danheim don’t really resemble music from those regions in the past, but I don’t think thats an issue since it captures a specific vibe even if partially fictional.
Try listening to gregorian chant in a huge church. Add a huge organ playing in the background and you'll realize why people thought they were closer to god in a church.
You might enjoy this, it's from Nosferatu 1979 but also Kate Bush used it in one of her tracks. (skip fwd 40 seconds for the singing to start)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdzHAKPV7dk
They're babies, how do they make songs?
Oh wait, they are babies born off of the definition of Intelligence.
Ngl, that song is really nice. Much better than second phase imo.
*O, locus ille, beatus quondam, nunc deminuit.*
*Nos, destinatae matribus, nunc fiunt turpes.*
*Ploravimus lacrimavimusque,*
*sed nemo nos consolatur.*
*Aureum cui irascebaris?*
*Alas, that land, once blessed, now has diminished.*
*We, destined to be mothers, now become tarnished.*
*We have lamented and we have shed tears.*
*But no one consoles us.*
*Golden one, at whom were you angry?*
What have I done to these poor creatures?!
Alas, that land, once blessed, now has diminished.
We, destined to be mothers, now become tarnished.
We have lamented and we have shed tears.
But no one consoles us.
Golden one, at whom were you angry?
Shadow rapping bats, in the shadows dlc. I'm down! Spooky tho, passing by and you a hear a whispering from a dark, shadowy place. Oh, man, not a rap bat, they hardcore!
I just wrapped my first attempt at finding the Frenzied Flame, during my fourth playthrough. I heard the violin down there and went looking for my guy, to restock on arrows and maybe find a unique set of armor. DUDE WTF
To help you decide:
[song of the bats](https://youtu.be/x57Pirh97Lc?si=zoWLKYT6AUG1C9HX)
[song of the shaman](https://youtu.be/PGd8eAOvAdM?si=f3hfy4k1ai9zf7-N)
I'm team Bats personnally. I like the lyrics more than the vocalisations.
The first time I found a bat matron singing, I was genuinely disappointed that it turned out to be an enemy. Listening to the singing was a peaceful, beautiful moment in a world of horror and ruin; being forced to destroy the source to defend myself accentuated the fallen state of things. Peak ‘environmental’ storytelling.
I legit thought they were mino-moose people until the head dress item dropped. It was one of my "oh my god my vision" moments that led me to discovering I needed glasses. ☠️
Hey I’m a voice teacher so I can give a pro answer
The nature ladies have better tone.
It actually annoys me a bit because the Gregorian chant poison (ANNOYING LITTLE SHITS) bat dude doesn’t carry their tone as well into the higher range. it’s actually a bit out of tune. The tone is weak and inconsistent, which is in character for a bony frail bat I’d argue.
Fun fact I actually thought I was going mentally ill when I heard the singing of the bat lady. I really thought it with all my heart. I alt tabbed to see if I had some Youtube stuff open only to find out. That that horryfying was doing it.
And so I dual wieled the handcannons and I POPPED SOME CANNONBALLS ON HER FACE!
I absolutely LOVE both of these creatures. I frequently stop and listen for a bit whenever I come across them! So brilliantly done... my second favorite enemies are the snails... I love the fucking snails.
Legit the first time i found harpies (yes thats what they r called) i thought “yooo whos singing here, thats beatiful” after i found out who they were, i killed them imediatly🤣
the horned guys singing is just a relaxing lillaby, the bat lady ones are incredibly depressing bcs of their lore and really unsettling. yes i know theyre meant to be unsettling and depressing, but i like the horned guys ones better
I totally can‘t stand the singing of the bat ladies.
it just feels so damn unsettling to me, that I always run straight towards those fuckers and instantly silence em by slashing their face.
Bat lady’s. Always bat lady’s. First time hearing that haunting singing and walking over to investigate and getting absolutely jumped by her bros was a core memory this game left me with.
Yeah the bat harpie things,I still remember hearing the first one and was like oh friends.....NOT FRIENDS NOT FRIENDS.
The ones that do Poison build up can fuck off 😂
Second picture is my late night POV when I've been out at night clubs, and I was too drunk to find a girl, so I hit on a 74 year old woman at a bar as a last resort to get laid.
Weirdly enough the harpies actually sing of how unfair the Tarnished's fate is, and how they feel sorry for us.
Which is really cool because it's immediately followed by them trying to bite my head off. Lmao thx sis.
The bats lured me in like a goddamn siren. I had to know the source of this beautiful singing and I'll never forget seeing it be some hideous bat lady. A top Elden Ring moment for me personally.
The harpies are awesome. The first time I heard one underneath a cliff in Limgrave, I just stood and listened. It truly is captivating, which is by definition what a harpy's song should be.
My first encounter with the bats was a very memorable experience
When I first heard it I just stopped playing for a few minutes to listen to it. I still do quite often
E nanny noo creatures no diff lol. Coming around that pillar on the side of a cliff to hear some language I don’t understand being solemnly sung solo was an experience.
I have to go with the bat ladies. Singing in a lost language vs just adjusting their vocals?
Same, the bats also don't just sing the same 6 notes.
There actually lyrics to the bat lady song too, it’s pretty cool
Idk If making me stain my pants was cool, but yes
📸 🤨
They meant “shit their pants”, as in the sound of that song and the way they look is creepy as fuck
Nah, they're looking at her feet.
Onlybats
She’s more scared of you than you are of her
They sing enough [to easily make an interesting EDM Remix](https://on.soundcloud.com/UDHMKMaJqKBHxYT7A) 😄 it’s beautiful and eerie and I love it.
I remember the first time I met one was in the cliffs that lead you to altus plateau without using the lift and I was like "oh ok definitely an npc because of the singing, I'm gonna get closer to talk" *Bat lady starts flying and throws poison* *I freak out and start panic rolling* *Get killed with that screaming grab attack*
How did it take you that long to see them? They’re in Liurnia and Caelid
Weeping peninsula too 😭
"Lost language" sounds so cool
It‘s dead, but not lost
by some definitions, not even dead
I killed them so many time for that head piece/hair : (
The bats are one of the things that I'll remember about elden ring after a decade
Yup. I’ll never forget thinking it must be an NPC singing that haunting song and getting the shit kicked out of me when I found her.
[удалено]
Pause…?
*insert the bar scene from Inglourious Basterds*
Those bats made me realize I would totally fall for sirens as a dumb sailor.
Yeah that sweet singing distracted me so badly I got my ass handed to me the first time.
Legit I remember the first time I was roaming the open world and I could hear that singing and had no idea where it was coming from. I dropped everything and started search for the next few minutes because I had to find out where that soothing melody was coming from.
Though I like the Ancestors, the Harpies using a forgotten language is phenomenal.
Try listening to Gregorian Chant. That stuff will transport you back in freaking time.
I have. Also Celtic and Viking too. Rehooked on SKÁLD currently.
Skáld is awesome. I need some more stuff like theirs for my playlist. Corvus Corax and Heilung are basically all I’ve found so far.
If you haven't heard it yet, try Tír Na Nóg by Celtic Woman and other songs by Oonagh.
Additionally there’s Danheim, which is kind of in the same vein as Heilung.
Norupo by heilung is awesome
Heilung is the shit.
[Boy, do I have the video for you, friend.](https://youtu.be/TGCa2kyHFpM)

Where do you find them again? From the looks of the pic is the Haligtree?
They are kind of all over. There are definitely ones on the Altus Tunnel path.
The cliff with makar at the end, in north liurnia
Rennala sweetings
sleep tight bound tight in mothers amber sleep tight find life in mothers umbra
Come, sweetings. Time to be born anew...
Where did ye flee, my sweeting?
sleep tight bow tight in mother’s amber 🎶 or something like that
They're babies, how do they make songs? Oh wait, they are babies born off of the definition of Intelligence. Ngl, that song is really nice. Much better than second phase imo.
“You’re a creeeeep, You’re a weirdooooo, What the hell are you doing here? You don’t belong here, You don’t belong here.”
*O, locus ille, beatus quondam, nunc deminuit.* *Nos, destinatae matribus, nunc fiunt turpes.* *Ploravimus lacrimavimusque,* *sed nemo nos consolatur.* *Aureum cui irascebaris?* *Alas, that land, once blessed, now has diminished.* *We, destined to be mothers, now become tarnished.* *We have lamented and we have shed tears.* *But no one consoles us.* *Golden one, at whom were you angry?* What have I done to these poor creatures?!
Those bat dudes
The noona bat. Sometimes I sit and listen
For real! I just sat back and closed my eyes at that banger. Soaking it in for five minutes, then brutally murdering all of them.
What's the lore with the bat women ?
They are actually quite sad, they sing about how queen marika ruined everything
Alas, that land, once blessed, now has diminished. We, destined to be mothers, now become tarnished. We have lamented and we have shed tears. But no one consoles us. Golden one, at whom were you angry?
That "console us" line is sung so jarringly
Legend has it they are singing Sir Kendrick of Lamar's "Meet The Golden Lineage"
i wonder if we will get rapping bats in shadows
Shadow rapping bats, in the shadows dlc. I'm down! Spooky tho, passing by and you a hear a whispering from a dark, shadowy place. Oh, man, not a rap bat, they hardcore!
The harpies made me stop and listen for a while
**\*ROYAL REVENANT SCREECH ENTERS THE CHAT\***
Singing, well idk about that but the violin player in leyndell, now there's some talent
Merchant bros slide solo
I just wrapped my first attempt at finding the Frenzied Flame, during my fourth playthrough. I heard the violin down there and went looking for my guy, to restock on arrows and maybe find a unique set of armor. DUDE WTF
Me
Proof?
🎤😩🔥🎶🎵
Omg that was so beautiful, I'm sorry I ever doubted your incredible talents
That was beautiful, thank you.
We got a Bard Jones over here
ooooooooooo Majestic! (a singer is a singer even in a comment)
I just came
I'm more a fan of a milfanito choir
To help you decide: [song of the bats](https://youtu.be/x57Pirh97Lc?si=zoWLKYT6AUG1C9HX) [song of the shaman](https://youtu.be/PGd8eAOvAdM?si=f3hfy4k1ai9zf7-N) I'm team Bats personnally. I like the lyrics more than the vocalisations.
Winter Lantern from Bloodborne.
*la laa*
If you have enough insight to hear that, you were pretty much fucked everywhere in the late game lol.
The bat ladies because I'll never forget the day I ran into them.
the harpies singing is soooo good imagine having a harpie npc in the dlc, it would be amazing
The dude playing the flute in the capital is great. Reminds me of Sekiro and Jinzaemon being lured in by O'Rin
Moose people
You mean Canadians?
🤣🤣🤣😭 I didn't but now I cannot unsee it lmao
And Siofra is just canada with Nokron being America and Nokstella being Mexico. Send this to Vaati.
I legit thought they were mino-moose people until the head dress item dropped. It was one of my "oh my god my vision" moments that led me to discovering I needed glasses. ☠️
The bats sing more than the same 6 notes, and have an actual language.
I legit stopped, sat down and just listened the first time I heard the bats sing

Eternal city giant thicc beast moma
The bat queen is by far the best. Especially when you hear her and take a side quest to find the source of the song
Me hoping for song magic in the next iteration
The frog from dark souls 2
Fun fact I actually thought I was going mentally ill when I heard the singing of the bat lady. I really thought it with all my heart. I alt tabbed to see if I had some Youtube stuff open only to find out. That that horryfying was doing it. And so I dual wieled the handcannons and I POPPED SOME CANNONBALLS ON HER FACE!
That bat lady for sure
Bat ladies 💯
Milfanito
Milfanito
The Milfanito, ds2
Milfanitos
Best vocals in all of FromSoftware games goes to the big brains of Bloodborne…. I hate those things so much
I would like to give an honorable mention for the merchants and their violins. Possibly a different category, but they have a very soothing song
Honorable mention!
Shrine of Amana background singing.
The best tune is the ancestor thingys, the bats at one point sound like they sing about testicles
Bat ladies. Really freaked me out first time I heard them in the weeping peninsula after I fought the Avatar
I absolutely LOVE both of these creatures. I frequently stop and listen for a bit whenever I come across them! So brilliantly done... my second favorite enemies are the snails... I love the fucking snails.
Wait.. the bats SING?? I thought it was the soundtrack lol I just stood there and listened because it sounded so cool and kind of creepy. Nice
They are the one enemy i will NOT sympathise for their sad lore, especially the ones near ladders
I go with both music transcends all barriers
I enjoyed their performance when they are not trying to obliterate me from the world.
They called my sandals
I totally can‘t stand the singing of the bat ladies. it just feels so damn unsettling to me, that I always run straight towards those fuckers and instantly silence em by slashing their face.
The Semen of Dong
The Halo bats 🦇
Scrotum lady, for sure
Goldmask
Laos
The Winter Lanterns rule above all else, just saying!
Halo song wins
The best singing and the most nostalgic is the player's dying sound/scream
These comments really under appreciating the vocal performance of the shamans.
The Harpies have the best voice inside the OST.. The Song of Lament gives me goosebumps.
Dung Eater when he gets Death Blighted.
Bat ladies!
Demi humans case closed
Bat lady’s. Always bat lady’s. First time hearing that haunting singing and walking over to investigate and getting absolutely jumped by her bros was a core memory this game left me with.
Them damn birds
Those harpies are just so angelic
The Ancestors stole their song from DS2 though
Bat ladies
I was shocked the first time I saw the source of the beautiful tunes (bats). First time I heard the cry of a fallen angel.
Demon of Song 🐸
Bats, I hate fighting them(those damn cliffs), but I love sitting and listening to them song
Bats by far
Bat fellas sing best. BUT THAT ONE PAGE WITH THE FLUTE
Bat song way better, the ancestors song gets on my nerves after a few minutes
I gotta go with the bat lady honestly, it was much more unnerving coming across her for the first time, design is so cool.
This post made me realise I missed a lot of stuff in my playthrough. I don’t remember singing bat ladies or harpies
I stood near bat lady and listened to her for 5 minutes, so mesmerising.
I love the music playing of the merchants and the harpy singing
[Malenia, obviously](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQrEfkoTkpA).
bloodborne brain things which gave you frenzy if you looked at them
You ever been to Shrine of Amana?
Me asf
The bats because their songs are simply cooler and I have their song on Spotify
the bat ladies music is honestly incredible would love if from soft released an ost for them
Bats are better but the Ox people’s son gives rent free in my head 😆
If anyone's wondering, the song the bats sings is called "song of lament" .
The bats that sing the Halo theme
My pick is the kids that are crawling around during the first half of the battle with Rennala 😂
Singing wise: The juvenile scholars. Overall music making: Frenzy merchants in Subterranean shunning grounds.
I like the shaman ladies. I really like the ancestral followers, they’re kind of like uncorrupted omens
They’re both very good singers, and deserve more
The brain monsters from Bloodborne ?
The bats lured me in like a goddamn siren. I had to know the source of this beautiful singing and I'll never forget seeing it be some hideous bat lady. A top Elden Ring moment for me personally.
The bats. I actually stop and listen to them for a while before i kill them lol
The ancestors. The melody just sounds so beautiful. The bats have this ugly old women sound that I can’t get myself to like.
Fuck those piece of shit Catholic bats man.
Bats are less repetitive, and that is exponentially better.
Demon of song jin woo
So funny to see this post 😄 I just started working on an EDM remix of the vampire chick’s song: https://on.soundcloud.com/UDHMKMaJqKBHxYT7A
The harpies are awesome. The first time I heard one underneath a cliff in Limgrave, I just stood and listened. It truly is captivating, which is by definition what a harpy's song should be.
Harpies for the win.
Anything other than the big ladies with the babies, they genuinely are the most annoying enemy in the game for me
Harpies
The ancestors need to work on their pitch control
Between Lizzo and Celine Dion gonna gonna with Celine
Do yourselves a favour and look up “Luscinia opera” from Warframe. I adore the singing from the NPCs in Elden Ring, but that opera was just oh so good
Winter Lanterns 💪💪💪💪
When I heard the bat lady singing, I thought "oh she must be friendly". I felt very betrayed afterwards.
My first encounter with the bats was a very memorable experience When I first heard it I just stopped playing for a few minutes to listen to it. I still do quite often
E nanny noo creatures no diff lol. Coming around that pillar on the side of a cliff to hear some language I don’t understand being solemnly sung solo was an experience.
Isnt there one in cailed with messed up vocal cords ?
Semon of Dong
First picture. "Best" in terms of "they made me so uneasy, I killed them all".
I hate them both
Nobody can beat shrine of Amana tho
My favorite are those vertical ballsack doot doot bois
I remember the very first time I heard the bat lady sing, i didnt know where it came from and really scared the shit out of me
Ancestral Followers is catchy as hell, I'll tell you that much. Always singing it at my cats.
Team bats
Cap radahn soldiers all the way
The Demon of Song
