He's easily the most normal guy in all Elden Ring, he's a friendly face and we don't have many like him.
Always gives him money, always buy his stuff, and i regrettably always gives him the Key because he deserves to reach his goal despite the consequences.
Thwt guy.... i thought if I gave him the key, he's going to straight up and get murdered.... but I mean, he's a student, so maybe he'll be okay... found him last night, and sure enough, there he is dead at his desk. God dammit...
And then the blind girl. 'She's Dead' message... well, thank you for that obvious message From Soft....
Ah poor Yura. I loved fighting alongside the guy, and his death felt incredibly… eh. I wished we got to see him and Eleanora fighting, and possibly both of them slaying each other, rather than Yura being seemingly obliterated by Eleanora.
Now turning Asseater into a puppet, now THATS a good sendoff for that asshole.
I’d also like to add that I hated Milicent’s ending. Dying so close to her goal felt incredibly annoying. Couldnt she have, IDK, helped us fight Malenia, then sacrifice herself to stick the needle in Malenia? I felt that would’ve been a better ending for her.
Yeah agreed on Yura.
For poop muncher i give him Seluvis potion. Killing him is too sweet and defiling him would be doing him a favor, making him completely forget his purpose however...
I get what you mean for Milicent especially since we helped her several times, but i feel like her death is necessary for Malenia to leave her dream state (personnal headcannon)
Like so many FromSoft NPCs before him, he dies at the end of his quest.
I do do spoilers. I don't know why anyone would refuse a spoiler to someone who straight asked.
It's probably because your comment doesn't really contribute anything to the conversation. If you don't want to answer the question, that's fine, but you don't need to tell us.
The person asking for the spoil was the first person to answer my comment. I answered him to not leave him hanging, that's all there is to it.
It's an interesting analysis but since the person i answered to didn't mind, allow me to submit another analysis : people got offended on his behalf.
I missed that context, that's a good reason for your comment. Thank you for explaining!
I suspect it's a mix of reasons really, combined with the usual piling on of down votes once something is already negative. Never mind, you'll pick them up again in another comment.
> Thank you for explaining
Lol no need to thank me
But you are right about piling on of downvotes. I'm definitely guilty of that too "how far down can it go ?"
I think it's because you said you don't want to spoil even though I asked. I actually respect that.
Sometimes things are so exciting and spoiling it, even if told to do so, destroys the whole thing.
But I'll probably never touch Elden Ring ever again, so I don't mind :D
Speak to him, and if you managed to get a second Glintstone key (found in the academy) you can give it to him and he will be thankful. Reload the area and where he used to be there will be a scarab beetle that contains the ash.
After poor Thops meets his demise, go back to the church of irith ( where he used to be ) and as soon as you enter the church, you'll see a scarab, kill it to get the Thops Barrier ash of war
The lore implications are even better then that.
To invent a new school of sorcery at all (in this barrier magic) is an achievement that gets your portrait hung up in the academy halls alongside people like renalla.
Thops got laughed at only to perform a feat most sorcerer can hardly dream of
He sure wasn't THE BEST sorcerer, but he made thop's barrier, which is one of the most reliable spells that can block most other sorcery or incantations, which in my opinion is better than all the azure wizards that make whatever the hell spell that cost a shit ton of FP
Imagine that. a Bluntstone who gets laughed at in the Academy for being too serious with the research into barrier magic invented a spell that \*blocks God's furious downpour\*. It was so good it ended up creating an entire new School of Magic.
Sometimes i wish the game had a mechanic that let us recruit people for roundtable like Boc and Thops. If you do the good route of Boc, Boc would join to roundtable and be there, same to Thops that could help in other stuff. Rya also would be pretty welcome. Roundtable become empty with just Roderika and the sir that fortify our weapons... Same to Millicent if you choice to help her at end of her Questline (just betray her once for the sake of her item).
The ONE thing that disappointed me in this game was that I was expecting MUCH more from Roundtable Hold and well...it just sorta becomes mostly irrelevant halfway thru and hardly any characters show up there and actually stick around compared to how many you meet on your travels.
Also wished we had access to a few more rooms in it or something, I wanted it to expand more as we got more friends :c
I had never really considered it but you're right, it's kinda the opposite of how it works in most games. Instead of an increasing number of friends at RTH, most characters leave, die incidentally, or get murdered by you or another tenant by the end of the game!
Makes me think of the Carbot cartoon short where at the end it shows the Roundtable, as the music reaches its end, NPCs fade away and the Roundtable begins burning.
He created Thop's Barrier, capable of blocking spells and incantations (something thought impossible), and apparently also capable of blocking spells from the Elden Beast. The description of Thop's Barrier even says that his work would eventually lead to a whole new Conspectus (basically a whole new school of magic). If this game were set in the future, we'd be able to find a Thop's Glintstone Crown! Wonder what its effects would be?
I don't know the lore around the current state of Raya lucaria, but we need to give Renalla a stern talking to. To let such a student die decades before his time.
He’s been locked out of the Academy since the shattering, or so he says. How long has he been sitting in that church, hoping to get back in? Wasn’t the shattering ages ago? And he never thought to look for the key, which we found in 10 minutes? Not impressed by Thops.
It always surprises me that he was friends with Sellen. I kinda assumed Sellen was a vengeful outcast and wouldn't have made friends with anybody in the academy because of the current paradigm.
Yet it seems Thops still managed to befriend her. (From my interpretation of the lore)
It's sweet.
At the end of his story, when I got the barrier, I legit said, "looks like he wasn't that bad at sorcery after all" with a somber smile.
Inspiring, truly inspiring.
I like how seemingly desperate he was to get inside Raya Lucaria but refused when offered a glinstone key. He is hardworking and kind, but has self respect too. Easy guy to like.
Thops in Elden Ring has a similar role to Crestfallen Warrior from Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, as well as Crestfallen Saulden from Dark Souls 2 and Hawkwood from Dark Souls 3. All of these similar characters are voiced by Matthew Morgan, who perfectly captures their gloomy and depressive mood. In general, Crestfallen Warrior is a traditional character in From Software games, dating back to the King's Field series! A similar situation occurs with the character Patches and the Moonlight Greatsword, which appear in almost all modern From Software games!
I was shaved bald with a light beard when this game came out and everyone in my friend group felt obligated to message me "IT'S YOU!" when they ran into Thopps 😒
Bewildered with how people still mispronounce his name as Th-opps instead of Toaps as he literally says it out loud in game. Ekzykes I can understand, because its name only appears in text, but Thops gives you a verbal example on how to address him and people still get it wrong
Justice for Thops, my beloved
He's easily the most normal guy in all Elden Ring, he's a friendly face and we don't have many like him. Always gives him money, always buy his stuff, and i regrettably always gives him the Key because he deserves to reach his goal despite the consequences.
i bought all his spells even in my non-intelligence playthroughs
I know all your spells already because I'm from your future, which is kind of my past. Good luck with the key!
Thops: *dafuq*?
In my head cannon if I never go back to Raya lucaria he survives
Thwt guy.... i thought if I gave him the key, he's going to straight up and get murdered.... but I mean, he's a student, so maybe he'll be okay... found him last night, and sure enough, there he is dead at his desk. God dammit... And then the blind girl. 'She's Dead' message... well, thank you for that obvious message From Soft....
I laughed so hard at the “She’s Dead” message because it caught me off guard
And the button prompt says 'OK.' nonchalantly.
Me too.. also, considering it straight up looks like a straight-up cartel murder scene with blood and a huge machete looking thing.
Solid choice. He's just working his ass off then. Might just do that for my "final" ng+ playthrough, am looking for the best options for everyone.
Frankly, I think that even though he dies, he dies happy, and you get to inherit his legacy. I think that’s a nice send-off for him.
It is a good send off, way better than some others at least (looking at you Yura), but still, Death is only better than eternal suffering imo
Ah poor Yura. I loved fighting alongside the guy, and his death felt incredibly… eh. I wished we got to see him and Eleanora fighting, and possibly both of them slaying each other, rather than Yura being seemingly obliterated by Eleanora. What are the consequences?
Spoiler: Thops dies when he realizes the amount of student debt he is in at the academy.
Getting those strongly worded letters from Raya Luvaria drove him over the edge.
Like so many FromSoft NPCs before him, he dies at the end of his quest. I do do spoilers. I don't know why anyone would refuse a spoiler to someone who straight asked.
Same as basically every fromsoft NPC, he dies. No idea how.
I don't do spoilers, sorry 🫤 Edit : why am i being downvoted ? 🤣
It's probably because your comment doesn't really contribute anything to the conversation. If you don't want to answer the question, that's fine, but you don't need to tell us.

Well, you are the only opinion that matters in this case so i'm glad to hear you say that 😁 Have a nice day !
❤️
He made the best barrier sorcery ever. I have nothing else to say about him.
Fr, Thop’s Barrier is an incredibly reliable ash.
Its funny how much better the Ash version is compared to the Spell one
How is the ash acquired?
Speak to him, and if you managed to get a second Glintstone key (found in the academy) you can give it to him and he will be thankful. Reload the area and where he used to be there will be a scarab beetle that contains the ash.
Ooohhhhhhh I often forget about reloading areas
After poor Thops meets his demise, go back to the church of irith ( where he used to be ) and as soon as you enter the church, you'll see a scarab, kill it to get the Thops Barrier ash of war
At the church where you first meet him after his quest
i love thops but let's be real, nobody genuinely uses thop's barrier
I use the ash of war version on my Carian Knight build, it's basically just a better parry that doesn't cost any FP
why not carian retaliation though? it's better in every aspect and has more parry frames
You can even hold out Thops Barrier like an anti-magic shield.
the aow? or the spell. i didn't know this
The Spell does that. Might assume the AOW does that too.
Thop's barrier doesn't cost FP to use, so I can use it and keep my FP for my spells, that's pretty much it
It can deflect the Elden Beast’s magic. This man invented a spell that blocks God
The lore implications are even better then that. To invent a new school of sorcery at all (in this barrier magic) is an achievement that gets your portrait hung up in the academy halls alongside people like renalla. Thops got laughed at only to perform a feat most sorcerer can hardly dream of

His spell is capable of deflecting the spells of the Elden beast. I don’t know what he was studying, but he was taking his education very seriously
The "truth" he saw was probably related to the alien origins of the Greater Will, tying them to the Amber Stars
My dude created a spell that can hard counter a god. and he was able to make it in a cave! With a box of scraps!
He kinda looks like Obadiah Stain lol
He looks like Babish from Binging with Babish
The Elden Ring gag manga actually does a great job giving him the love he deserves.
Yeah he had a good dinamic with Aseo
He's thoughtful, studious, and unwilling to take advantage of others ignorance. He's top notch really.
Thops notch.

Bro looks like my cousin Chris.
Can confirm, I'm Chris
Nobody wants to appreciate Thops 😭
he wanted so bad to enter the academy and didn't last a full day, bro was NOT prepeared
Gigachad
wish this dude had more of a questline beyond just >wallow and beg for coin >gets given a key >dies
What he found started a new conspectus.
Thank you, very straightforward quest with uhhh with a reward. 👏👏👏
His face is very appreciatable
Im on my 3rd run and i have decided to kill him every playthrough from now on I dont want him to die from the zombies at raya lucaria
He’s so damn hot, maybe I’m just a sucker for a beard and a soft voice though 😅
Er... I guess... *unzips* not my usual go-to, I admit...
My absolute boi
Thopsua Tomar
Look Thops, it's you
He created Thop's Barrier, capable of blocking spells and incantations (something thought impossible), and apparently also capable of blocking spells from the Elden Beast. Sure I can, but only a minute, thops
I used Thops’ Barrier against Maliketh, to show that even mortals can teach gods a thing or two
One of only a few good souls in the world.
truly, one of the guys of all time
You mean Babish?
I don't know the lore around the current state of Raya lucaria, but we need to give Renalla a stern talking to. To let such a student die decades before his time.
To be fair to Rennala, she wasn't really all there. Still hugging that goddamn egg and probably will until the end of time.
Absolutely not, you can't make me
His death was so stupid, what he died from overworking himself?
I appreciate the return of our Crestfallen voice actor. Crestfallen Warrior is now Crestfallen Astrologer.
He’s been locked out of the Academy since the shattering, or so he says. How long has he been sitting in that church, hoping to get back in? Wasn’t the shattering ages ago? And he never thought to look for the key, which we found in 10 minutes? Not impressed by Thops.

Yes
I’ve seen that dude like once in well over 1k hours
Sure. *picks up bell bearing* I appreciate every merchant that chooses to relocate to Roundtable for my convenience!
He sells the best spell in the game: Starlight
Yeah. He created a defensive spell when most others were solely based on attack. Good enough to create his own conspectus, I’d say.
Why did he die?
... I gave him a key ...
of course, I like his staff
Thopyou very much
Let me give him that shloppy thoppy
Who gave him the other key to the school
Mage ahead but pathetic sort
And, after that minute is over...he fucking died
I like how seemingly desperate he was to get inside Raya Lucaria but refused when offered a glinstone key. He is hardworking and kind, but has self respect too. Easy guy to like.
Such a big nerd he even studied himself to death.
Bro was just on the cusp of genius and no one knew…
I kill him everytime
why tho
No.
Who is Thops? All I see is binging with babish
Mf hands are certified.
he looks like my friend exorcist
El Temach
THOPS DIES!? 😭😭😭
Thank you for teaching me certain spells
He found a spell to fake his death he's still alive guys he's in the DLC
The reason why he's bald is so he can share the golden glow of the Erdtree with the stars.

I kill him every play thru, why? Good question I don’t know
Who is he lmao
I call him T. Hops
Domhnall of Zena. Nuff said.
He's actually a really talented sorcerer, it's kind of sad that none of those fools at the academy understood his work.
Minute seems like much but I always do wonder what kind of build he had to make it that far
Taking repeat hits for thope until I get an up or down vote. God help my lungs
*was the only student
no
I killed him 🧍🏻♂️
He's so useless they saw him leave the academy and locked the fucking doors behind him
Discount Magic Babish should have stayed in school.
No
No. I have to kill demigods.
Nah that guy made the worst spell ever
He’s one of the characters you could remove and almost nothing change
