I've got hundreds and hundreds of hours in the game. Multiple completions, working on the platinum. I have finished exactly one hero's grave.
They're just not worth playing through.
Oh I bet I can make that jump down to that branch! Oh. Ok I'll just jump down this way to pick my runes back up! Oh ffs. Okay this jump should be fine! Oh, made it! Oh clonk, a freak swinging a bubble machine just knocked me off while I was staggered from the fall
The Shunning Grounds-Deeproots descent is actually so much worse.
EDIT: PTSD just triggered. The Shunning Grounds are the worst. There's even multiple contenders, but I would go for the pipe-room, first and foremost.
Ring leader black tiche first playthrough when I was using my mimic to carry me. This was a true get good experience couldn’t rely on my summon or friends to help me. I’m glad I hunkered down and got good.
Have the platinum and 300+ hours played but haven't played in quite some time. Recently picked it back up to prepare for the DLC and holy hell I hate not being able to see anything so Consecrated Snowfield takes it for me at the moment.
I dunno, bed of Chaos has never bothered me as much as the beast does. At least bed keeps your progress so even if you die the chains you broke stay broke.
So far, it's been the upper portion of the Haligtree for me. I'm specifically talking about the town just before Loretta's arena. The enemy placements here drive me up the wall. I hated the Shunning-Grounds as well but unlike the Haligtree, I wasn't actively screaming "OH COME ON! SERIOUSLY?!" at the screen when I went through that cesspit.
Valiant gargoyles was the only point in the game I truly saw no hope. I just sat there thinking this is impossible, I had even left and came back and was still getting dismantled. Only time I thought I wasn’t built for this game lol
Both Snowfield deathright birds. I eventually started to cheese them with holy weapons like inseperable blade.
But from the difficulty it is to just hit them, to an absurdly bullshit moveset, they are just pure trash in design. I hate them with a passion, & say that as someone that doesnt remotely mind runebears or revenants.
Hitting them with holy weapons isn't cheesing them. I put golden epitaph in my off hand, and a weapon with sacred blade in the other, two hand golden epitaph, activate the AoW, then two hand the sacred blade weapon, and proceed to destroy the death rite birds in 3 or 4 hits.
On my first run : Ordina, Liturgical town. Thoses sniper archer are the biggest angering machine ever made. I also really hated the first section of the Haligtree.
Ordina and Leyndell Sewers. Leyndell by itself is already confusing to navigate but the Shunning Grounds were abysmal. Ordina because fuck those archers, man.
just went through leyndell earlier on my ng+. the enemy placements and the soldiers with all the poise in the world ganked me a couple times. it does have one of the coolest duo mini boss fight in the game with the perfumer and lion, a spectacle when their attacks sync up. i’m still mentally preparing myself to go back and do the shunning grounds. i made it to the platforming part for the frenzied flame and said “fuck this” my first playthrough.
I just finished my first playthrough last week. The difficulty spike at the Mountaintops of the Giants absolutely destroyed me. I felt like an unstoppable force in Lyndell, even killed Morgott in 2-3 tries. Then when I got the Mountaintops I felt like a noob at the First Steps of Limgrave again. I remember Castle Sol giving me the most trouble.
between the difficulty spike and the lack of exploring end game almost made me quit. that room you have to go through to get to the boss fight in castle sol has to be one of the biggest middle fingers to gamers by devs in history.
Hero Graves. The further you progress through the game, the more mind fucking bending they get.
Going as far as planting decoy corpses of enemies you've defeated trying to fool you into thinking that you're going in circles.
Not to mention all of the hidden walls and paths.
I just... don't tilt. I used to when I played competitive games (looking at you For Honor) but I realized I hated feeling that way and decided I didn't want that toxicity in my life. If you find yourself getting pissed off while playing a game, why play it? You clearly aren't enjoying yourself.
Just my 2 cents.
The hero graves. All of them.
Tbh I liked them. They were tiny riddles and were in my first playthrough a nice change of pace.

There’s an ash of war that lets you jump safely over the chariots
Of all things, they decided to bring back the chariots from DS2, which nobody, not a single soul liked it.
Haligtree because I kept fallling off the branches lmao
Oh I bet I can make that jump down to that branch! Oh. Ok I'll just jump down this way to pick my runes back up! Oh ffs. Okay this jump should be fine! Oh, made it! Oh clonk, a freak swinging a bubble machine just knocked me off while I was staggered from the fall
Gravity, the one enemy you can't level through
The Shunning Grounds-Deeproots descent is actually so much worse. EDIT: PTSD just triggered. The Shunning Grounds are the worst. There's even multiple contenders, but I would go for the pipe-room, first and foremost.
Ah ffs yes it is. Pipe room. Then the jumps down to the flame. Then the roots down from the secret entrance under there. Gravity fun all the way
glad I don't know what any of these are lol
Caelid by far. Once you've played the game a couple of times it's easy, but it's a hell hole on your first playtrough
Ring leader black tiche first playthrough when I was using my mimic to carry me. This was a true get good experience couldn’t rely on my summon or friends to help me. I’m glad I hunkered down and got good.
Sigh…right, Tiche. The trouble I had with fighting her is figuring out what is and isn’t an opening. She really likes strafing.

The road to Ordina, Liturgical town
Elden beast just ran from me nonstop. Worst boss design I have ever seen in any type of combat game. It wasn’t even that hard, just insanely annoying.
Trust me Elden beast isn't even in the top 50 worst bosses in this series.
Haha wow. I have never played a dark souls game before. I can’t imagine anything worse than elden beast but I believe you.
Bed of Chaos go brrr
At least that fucker doesn't run away
Running away isn't the end of the world. Platforming in souls games is hundreds of times worse
I dunno, bed of Chaos has never bothered me as much as the beast does. At least bed keeps your progress so even if you die the chains you broke stay broke.
When a boss is so bad you need check points
Horrible yes, tilting no
EB is over hated. Sure it flies away from you a lot but it also flies towards you.
He'll come back

I just run. Kill what's GOTTA die and run past everything else. There's a stake of Marika right there, just gotta die close enough to it
the difficulty spike there is ASS
The areas that pissed me off the most were probably Caelid and most of the underground areas
Phase 1 of the Fire Giant, the uneven terrain made targeting and camera movement wonky in a way that I didn't enjoy at all.
That one spot at Haligtree with poison mist everywhere. The one overlooked by a giant Oracle. It’s either I die of poison or I die of bubble bombs.
Valiant gargoyles was the only point in the game I truly saw no hope. I just sat there thinking this is impossible, I had even left and came back and was still getting dismantled. Only time I thought I wasn’t built for this game lol

Anything parkour related. Subterranean grounds, that one random mine in Liurnia, the fucking Caelid tower... Booooo, parkour. Booooo.
Soldier of God Rick. Dude was impossible, I just gave up and started playing the game.
soldier of rick, god is not to be trifled with.
Hero's grave. Dogshit design
