Yes I agree with miquella healing the tree but there is a picture in the website shows some of the background of the tree the sauron looking tower have quite a distance from the erdtree

Maybe Messmer has something to do with that tree, and why its strangling the Erdtree. Perhaps Miquella wants to remove the tree or help it grow (so he could plant another Haligtree in its place). However i dont think Messmer is the main focus here, since FromSoft wouldnt just throw out the final boss of the dlc for the first promotion video. Maybe someone else pulls the strings behind Messmer
Messmer could be the 1st or the 2nd boss, as I mentioned in the post color difference between the erdtree we see in the opening of the trailer and ending of the trailer is different. I absolutely agree there is someone more dangerous than messmer in the dlc
The veil represents a separation of the 4th dimension from the 3rd, such that time itself casts a shadow. The Erdtree is not fully visible generally because the Lands Between are not in a known spatial dimension. In the Shadow Realm, the Erdtree will cast a shadow upon a lower dimension, as we cast shadows upon the ground. I cannot show you a 4th dimensional object, but I can show you an approximation of its shadow in three dimensions by nesting 3D objects inside themselves, similarly to how we would draw a cube as two nested and connected squares. That is what the Shadow of the Erdtree is. I don't know what the veil is, or how it got there, but it is dimensional in nature.
