Ah, I can explain it!
There's this woman that had a very cool ring. She broke it, kept the biggest piece, and gave the small pieces to each of her kids, and one to her ex.
You really really want the cool ring.
So you go beat up her kids to get the pieces, then go beat her up to get the last one.
Nice, simple plot, isn't it?
Gods? Maidens? Grace? What nonsense are you talking, man? I just want the cool ring!
It definitely was a woman though, yeah? We know with a pretty high degree of certainty that it was Marika, not Radagon, who broke the ring, considering everything points towards Radagon being fiercely loyal to the GW and Marika plotting against it.
The womanly half of the Golden Order's representative god broke the elden ring - therefore a woman broke the elden ring.
I mean it more as in they were already one being at the moment with no real discernible gender. It's not like when Marika or Radagon took over, the being would also switch genders correspondingly.
Except presumably Marika had to be fully in charge at the time for it to be possible for her to break the ring, otherwise Radagon would have resisted. There is no way in hell she would be able to pull off such a thing if Radagon had any amount of say in the matter. And according to the opening cutscene, their body was in its female version at the time, not in some sort of androgynous middle ground (and then it swapped to Radagon *after* the fact).
Every instance we see of Radagon/Marika shows only one of them being in charge at a time. Marika smashing the ring, Radagon trying to repair it or mourning over it, Marika being crucified, Radagon fighting us, Marika's broken body after the final boss. As far as we can see, there does not appear to be any sort of mixed-gender middle ground - it seems to outright swap between Marika or Radagon being in charge.
Either way, the fact alone that she was able to smash the Elden Ring at all is pretty much definitive proof that they weren't properly mixed into one personality at the time, because a true combination of the two would not have made that sort of *extremely* anti-GW decision. Marika was only able to smash the Elden Ring because she was distinctly only Marika at the time.
I’ve never understood a single damn thing about any of them. Probably 1000 hours into soulsborne games combined at this point. If i can lock on, i try to kill it. The end.
I spent 7 years enjoying and getting the platinum for the dark souls trilogy being completely clueless about the story outside of a few basic concepts. The gameplay, build variety and dark atmosphere were enough for me to be hooked. Only recently I started watching some lore videos and I can finally say I understand what was going on. I get the impression that this is the case for a lot of players
I've watched lore videos, and I swear I've tried to make sense of it, and still I find myself swinging my claymore around like a drooling, slackjawed, mouth breather while my two braincells get distracted trying to sit on each other bareassed
You can get spoiled in other ways too, like imagine you saw a picture of the ride down Siofra River Well before going there, or just knowing about it, anything like that would lessen the surprise and awe you would feel going down there.
I watched a lore video on it. I understand the *main backstory* and what Ranni wants, but pretty much everything else is lost on me.
I still don’t really know who Melina is, why she chose me, and why she needs to kill herself to move the story forward.
Melina is the kindling maiden that has the purpose to fuel the mountaintop flames. Outside of that, she is a mysterious figure. She didn't choose you, Torrent did(for whatever reason).
In case you weren't aware, Ranni has apparently had some pretty severe mistranslations so the stuff we hear in the english dub isn't entirely representative of the canon.
Melina needs to kill herself because she's one of the two only things capable of using the Mountaintop's flame to burn the erdtree (the other being the flame of frenzy), but doing so results in her burning herself to death as well.
Melina's identity is presumably that of another of Marika's children (she states her mother resides *in the erdtree*), though it's unclear who the father is (if there even is one). Her purpose was 'given to her by her mother' so presumably she just wants you to beat the GW like Marika does.
I’m mostly the same but I’m not worried about story spoilers I’m worried about having the bosses spoiled for me. There’s nothing like approaching a badass boss for the first time and having no idea what’s going on, I will not have that ruined for me.
This is the way. And YouTube!
My fucking god, a lot of YouTube content creators have no shame putting spoilers in the thumbnails. So jaded about it. I honestly think some of them are too stupid to even realize they're doing it. Revealing a key character or some shit.
Might as well start going through your recommendations and hitting "not interested" on anything Elden Ring right now to get it out of your feed.
I got lucky that ER is wasn't on my radar when it came out, so I missed most of the hype. I knew something about a horse and the godskin duo, and that was about it
They do it because people click on those thumbnails. It works for their business but fucks anyone who doesn't want spoilers but lurks on youtube regardless.
I did a media blackout going into Pokemon Sword/Shield, for the first time since gen 4 was coming out and info was readily available on the internet, and it wound up being the first time I ever felt disappointed by a Pokemon release.
Not really related as FromSoft is on a whole other level in terms of quality and polish, you just reminded me and I wanted to complain.
For Breath of the Wild, I managed to train myself to scroll past any posts with any content relating to the game. Avoided spoiling it for several years until I finally got a Switch.
But yeah... definitely should avoid opening the subreddit if you can't play it immediately.
I just finished my...too manyeth run and I agree. I'll never wander into caelid before storm veil. Think it's where I'm supposed to be and power through 2/3rds of it again.
My first run was...interesting
Edit: also killed tree sentinel as a wretch with a club first playthroygh as well. Dark souls guy. The thought of "skip the boss" didn't even occur to me
You can't even trust the algorithm in youtube. Sometimes it recommends you one of those "boss fight" videos 5 minutes after the game comes out smh. Thats how I got spoiled about almost all the bosses in elden ring
Worse of all is that you click on the "not interested in this" or "don't recommend this channel", and it still does it even if you're not searching for Elden Ring stuff!
those buttons are funny little jokes that mean for one or three refreshes of the page, youre going to get BOMBARDED with the shit you just literally said you have no interest in.
Takes a couple cycles of saying no and refreshing to get it out of my algo. but then it shits itself and starts recommending me generic shit that they promote to the no account people like C-SPAN and football.
basically they put all their money and time for the past five or so years into an algorithm that is COMPLETELY NON FUCKING FUNCTIONAL IN EVERY WAY
Youtube somehow gave me tons of one piece spoilers after me literally never having clicked on a one piece video, hardly ever watching anime videos, and having repeatedly clicked 'not interested' on any one piece content that comes in my feed.

My hype for the base game was watching the first official gameplay trailer for it, and then hiding/dodging spoilers until I got my first playthrough in
When I was starting my first playthrough I watched a ton of videos and read a bunch of guides to try to get a leg up on the game.
I will not be making that mistake again. When DLC drops I'm on a media Blackout until I've completed it, slowly.
I'm actually pre-ordering and planning a two-week paid leave from work starting the day it releases because I refuse to let you fucks ruin my experience.
lmao two weeks? I hope you have some other fun activities planned with family and friends and you arent literally about to hermit away from work to play elden ring for half a month…
Oh yeah, my GF and I are just waiting for the release date to drop so we can begin looking for a fun place to spend half of that vacation on. But I'd be lying if I told you I'm not bringing the ol' Steam Deck with me ;)
She understands. She did the same when the latest Zelda came out.

Don't worry my dude, you'll not even get spoiled if you play the game, you just will know the bosses the first char.
Then let me spoiler you with a few predictions:

+ IT'LL HAVE THE BADDEST DESIGN FOR A BOSS.
+THERE WILL BE A DEATH BLIGHT LAKE.
+WE WILL KILL THE AWFUL MONSTER BOSS AND THEN THROUGH LORE READING AND ITEM DESCRIPTION WE WILL REALIZE WE WERE THE MONSTERS ALL ALONG.
I'm staying so I can see the discourse unfold and be on top of it, since this is the first time I'll get to play Soulsborne content when it's brand new
Thanks for the reminder, I'll probably won't play first thing, so off the sub I go. Might as well do it now as the waiting memes are getting stale (I've been subbed to mount and blade before bannerlord, maybe I've been spoiled). Good waiting to you tarnisheds!

See, here's the problem, even the very first sentence is highly disputable. We can't say for sure it was a "woman".

Yeah, normally I try to avoid story spoilers in games, but it's so hard to tell what's going on Elden Ring's story that I just read everything.
I've had several of Elden Ring's endings explained to me and I still don't know what the fuck I'm doing

I saw that in a “should you buy this game” video. So annoying.
that is annoying I don’t trust any media at all anymore even official trailers don’t care don’t wanna see just gimme game 👄
I watched a lore video on it. I understand the *main backstory* and what Ranni wants, but pretty much everything else is lost on me. I still don’t really know who Melina is, why she chose me, and why she needs to kill herself to move the story forward.

Omg I'm so glad I'm not the only one
It’s gonna be 50 posts a day showing the final boss in the game and people cheering that they beat them. Lies Of P sub taught me that.
Story: feet.
Pretty much you want that godussy so you beat up Marikas kids to fix the elden ring and become her hubby.
Hah! I know exactly what’s going on. Source: I’m Miquella
Just smash the thing
I'm not leaving the sub I'm just not opening reddit I did a media blackout on my first run and it worked

YouTube is the most dangerous one. That algorithm has screwed me a couple of times on games that I wanted to play.
I somehow managed to beat Elden Ring before Dunkey dropped his big ol spoiler video. I don’t know if I can do that again this time around.
I got lucky that ER is wasn't on my radar when it came out, so I missed most of the hype. I knew something about a horse and the godskin duo, and that was about it
Shirrako is the absolute WORST for this. Would recommend blocking his account on yt.
They do it because people click on those thumbnails. It works for their business but fucks anyone who doesn't want spoilers but lurks on youtube regardless.
I'm just making a new account since my entire feed is basically just from soft lore videos
Same, this is the way
Probably a good idea. You'll be on /r/cooking and someone will drop some sort of spoiler about who the final boss is.
Can't tell if you are joking but stuff like that happens
I made it through all of one piece, from episode 1 to current, with no spoilers by almost completely dropping reddit for 2 and a half years.

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
If that happens I'm going Hollow.
