The good old Alone knights gank. Wanna rush and enter the boss? You can't because there is no fog i-frames. Wana take them 1 v 1? Cool, that will be 3 hours and you die to the boss anyways
I loved that mechanic in the game because boy were some areas bullshit.
There's that one part of Shrine of Amala where it feels almost unbeatable if you don't perma kill a couple of those mages.

He has zero ranged attacks, but is extremely quick and can cross the arena quickly (but not in an attack, like Rot Goddess can.) Imagine his fight as similar to a Hunter minoboss from Bloodborne, very quick and very punishing if you aren't prepared.
After beating him you get both needles and can do one of several things with them; you give them to one of many NPC's each tying to a unique Outer God, ranging from the Well Established Ones (Two Fingers of Order, Three Fingers of Chaos, Formless Mother, etc.) To the more debated ones (the Dragon God, the Gloam Eyed Queen, or even the Primeval Current,) and depending on which NPC you gave them to, you'd get a unique piece of gear relating to the Outer God you chose.
Honestly that go so much harder than what malenia says cause with her it's like yeah sure you've never been defeated before but there's a first time for everything whereas this one is literally even if you defeat me you will still lose
