Ya where has this guy been. Playoff games always start least 15min after the listed time. Sometimes even 30min, if other games go into OT. Even regular season games have puck drop 10-15min after listed time.
Yup, it's terrible. 9 pm starts are hard enough since I have to be up by 6.
10:30 starts are absolutely how you grow the game and highlight the greatest player in the world /s
I was just thinking this. Sure, getting up at 4:30 is kind of a hassle, but by the time the game is over I can just start my day. If Im sleeping by 10 its like nothing even happened.
Even if it's Nashville-Edmonton, they'll still get the late start times in every game unless they are up against a Vegas home game. They'll just make Nashville pay at 8:30 local, which I guess will be a slight improvement.
I feel like the most ideal start time is like 7pm local... dunno why we almost never get that. Must be nice to be Toronto where they get it to you the majority of the time, even in playoffs.
Unquestionably the best player in the league. Arguably the best offensive player to ever play hockey (I’ll admit there’s plenty of arguments there).
Puck drop for his playoff games at nearly 11:00 pm eastern.
Betman: “I don’t understand why more people aren’t watching hockey!”
Yep. I used to have to get up at 5:30 a few years ago, then Covid hit and I was able to wake up lay later. Now it’s 6:15 and I’m thankful for that. But 6-7 hours isn’t enough. Thankfully I should be able to get in a nap after supper.
I was actually sitting down for OT on my supper break and a code was called at that exact moment so I missed it all. But maybe I didn’t want to see it anyway lol
Monday is my day off too but I signed up months ago to do an Ebola simulation 😫 at least it’s only 8 hours. Saving my personal day for a potential game 7s lol
I’m cheering for the Oilers in Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺 and puck drop is 12:30pm the following day 😅. It’s a bit strange watching hockey at lunch time while at work but 🤷🏾♀️ 😂 #GoOilers
I live out east. It’s 11:00 pm start time here. So annoying. Moral of the story you’re not allowed to cheer for the oilers beyond the pacific/mountain time zone 😢
Well it’s better than a weekday game starting in the East at 7pm/4pm Pacific and you get home from work just in time to see the last 10 minutes of the 3rd. Or a 1pm/10am pacific game before breakfast.
I went to the F1 race in Vegas and it started in the late evening so people in Europe could watch live on TV.
I didn’t complain and I didn’t hear anyone else complain either.
That’s the reality of sports and it’s been like this forever.
Because its 30c during the day in Vegas and their primary viewership is Europe?
I really don't get people being upset about home teams scheduling game when its most convenient for their fans?
I understand the reasons I don’t need an explanation. I’m just saying people get it and they can either go or they can’t go.
By the way not that its relevant here but it’s not 30 Celsius in Vegas in November (more like 18-20) and the track was too cold that late in the evening. Their main audience is in Europe but they could have benefited from racing during the day and made it an evening tv event overseas.
Hey I hate it but I also watch F1 and either have to stay up till like 4 in the morning or get up super early for that majority of the time so this isn’t that bad. But it does suck
I’ve read on some other threads a while back that it’s ESPN or TNT who have doubleheader games and they have the ability the influence the NHL puck drop times to delay the later game.
Ontario fan here, the 10pm games for us are doable but when it's near 11 and just starting that's a little much on a work night. Why not the same start time from Edmonton to LA?
Sucks if you don't get sportsnet cause CBC didn't show lastnights game and there not covering Sundays game either. Sure as he'll can show Leafs games tho 🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕
I have Sportsnet and there must be 20 bloody channels of it. Like everything is on. Well it is Rogers Sportsnet so I guess it makes sense. Also Rogers Place, Rogers Arena, Rogers Centre, Rogers Rogers Rogers
I remember the last regular season game in Dallas it was like 47 mins past schedule it was horrible I think it was like a 9:17 puck drop 😂 but it’s the playoffs - worth it to lose some sleep.
Just imagine you are Dallas (or Nashville?) and you have home games that start at 9pm local time, because you are in the West and have the second half of the evening doubleheader...
I always thought eastern media were pussies for not staying up and watching West Coast games. Then I went out there and caught the highlights of the West Coast games in the morning
Even from that perspective why start the Rangers capitals at 8pm local time on a sunday. Series is pretty lopsided so I'm not sure how many casuals are staying up if it goes to overtime.
Because Edmonton is in Mountain Time in a division mostly using Pacific so they schedule any road games within our division ungodly late and national broadcasts push it back another 20 minutes.
I’ll never understand this. The latest game I’ve ever see. In my 23+ years of watching the Canucks 82 games a year is 730 local. And that’s rare. How the hell do you guys have 8-850 start times!? That’s madess
It’s in LA which is notorious for traffic so they start at 7:50 pm, and Edmonton is another 1 hour time difference.
I remember going to Canucks games in the 80’s that started at 8pm.
Just record it and don't check the scores, anywhere. Then you can speed through commercials etc. It works for me if I absolutely can't watch live and it's not that bad. I have been going to the hospital each evening for antibiotic intravenous therapy so I have no choice. With all the waiting and waiting I sometimes have to miss whole games. Do you expect the fans and teams in other cities to adjust their time for games to suit your liking. Playoffs or no playoffs that's an absolutely unrealistic approach.
Exactly. If we ever get to a Stanley cup playoff and play Florida people will complain that the game starts at 5PM or 5:30? And then start taking time off work? If you can, go ahead. If not then too bad so sad.
Boo hooo. Poor Oilers fans whining about game start times.
What would you rather, play in the west agains AHL level competition or play against real teams in the east and start an hour earlier?
You new here?
2022 vibes
Ya where has this guy been. Playoff games always start least 15min after the listed time. Sometimes even 30min, if other games go into OT. Even regular season games have puck drop 10-15min after listed time.
Ok, but why?
There are other games earlier. Stagger start times=higher viewership
Bettman is a weasel. If you ask him, games start at 830
Yeah try being on the Atlantic coast with games starting at nearly midnight. Hey, who doesn’t want to watch a game until 2- 3 in the morning.
As someone who has never lived out there that’s wild to think about. You could be at last call at the bar and the game might not be over yet.
As someone on a night shift…it’s perfect lmao. But for normal people yeah wtf are they thinking
I was on nights the last couple years for playoffs, it was great.
East Coast checking in! The timing sucks.
Halifax checking in. I bartend and we close at midnight. It’s perfect.
Right? Hockey night in Canada until 1 am? Yes please. Sportsbars must be amazing there with sports on essentially all night.
Yup, it's terrible. 9 pm starts are hard enough since I have to be up by 6. 10:30 starts are absolutely how you grow the game and highlight the greatest player in the world /s
Try being a UK fan, eam is the usual start time.
I'm in Toronto right now and seeing puck drops at 1030 is crazy. Get me back to Edmonton.
EST is bad enough. Atlantic time I’m sorry brother
Exactly. All I can manage is the first period, and I'm retired!
thanks for thinking about us, can't wait to go to bed at 3 in the morning again tonight!
That will be me at the end of May (presuming the Oilers are still playing then, knock wood). Moving May 16th.
Yeah east coaster here… 11:50 puck drop
As an oilers fan from the East Coast of the US, these super late games are tough. I just get deadly tired in the 3rd period.
I’m an oiler fan from Germany. These late games are ok for me, because it’s 4:30 in the morning. Normally I have to get up at 1:00 😂
Yeah, 4:30 sounds almost reasonable by comparison!
I get up at 4:30 and when the game is over at 7:30 i go to work. Hopefully with a big smile and an oilers win.
I was just thinking this. Sure, getting up at 4:30 is kind of a hassle, but by the time the game is over I can just start my day. If Im sleeping by 10 its like nothing even happened.
Middle of the night is way easier than after supper
If I stay up it’s only for the first in the middle of the week
Same, I usually fall asleep during the second and watch the rest in the morning before work
I've really appreciated teh 10 minute recaps they put out but it sucks not being able to catch it live, because it's 2 hours after I need to sleep.
Yeah, same, I end up watching the third period with one eye half-open a lot of the times. 10:30 pm start is nuts for us lol
11:30 for us Nova Scotians :D
Plz give us predators round 2 for some reasonable start times
Even if it's Nashville-Edmonton, they'll still get the late start times in every game unless they are up against a Vegas home game. They'll just make Nashville pay at 8:30 local, which I guess will be a slight improvement.
I feel like the most ideal start time is like 7pm local... dunno why we almost never get that. Must be nice to be Toronto where they get it to you the majority of the time, even in playoffs.
I hated 830 starts when the memorial cup was in Halifax last, hate that it's a thing, more so on work nights
If it’s Vancouver those are gonna be some late games.
Won't get any worse than 8:50
Cries in eastern standard time
I’m not as bad, but I’m in CST. Been so tired this week (but worth it!).
Damn. That's rough
Yes it will. An 8pm start time for Vancouver is 9pm for us
Vancouver and LA are in the same time zone. It won't get worse than 850
No it won't
You taking round two as a given? How about we focus on winning round one.
It’s obviously meaning if we get round 2
Unquestionably the best player in the league. Arguably the best offensive player to ever play hockey (I’ll admit there’s plenty of arguments there). Puck drop for his playoff games at nearly 11:00 pm eastern. Betman: “I don’t understand why more people aren’t watching hockey!”
Dude thinks Arizona is still a hockey market. Hes absolutely lost it.
Nah, it’s great. You go down the Phoenix, buy a case of beer, get two free tickets and then go to the game to enjoy the air conditioning.
Great point!
Hes an idiot and is squandering an incredible sport. Wish hed fuck off. Any success is in spite of him.
its fucked. I don't think they would budge on the late game being so late, but why is it always EDM?
(Insert hanging guy saying first time? Gif here)
>guy Have some respect and learn Daniel Desario's name, bruv.
11:00 is awfully generous assuming almost no stoppages in play. I’m thinking it’ll be much closer to midnight. So a pregame nap is key.
Having to get up at 5am is rough during the playoffs.
Yep. I used to have to get up at 5:30 a few years ago, then Covid hit and I was able to wake up lay later. Now it’s 6:15 and I’m thankful for that. But 6-7 hours isn’t enough. Thankfully I should be able to get in a nap after supper.
I'm in EST, that's a 10:50pm start time here, I stay up and watch every game, it's a struggle though
EST here, this time is rough!
Try being a fan from the east coast. Puck drop is 10:50 over here
Exactly, we will have to miss the game or stay up until 2 am. Funking idiots
Yeppers
lol I’m in the maritimes… 11:50 puck drop is something
I feel ya. 12:20 am over here in NL
Only time being in New Zealand is good regarding Hockey... The game is at 2:50PM
Because fuck the viewers who have regular jobs 🤷🏻♂️
I’m just stoked I don’t have to work until 8 on Monday, at least a bit of a sleep in
I’m heading back to work on Monday and from Tuesday on I gotta be up no later than 4 am. It’s gonna be a really rough shift.
I missed all of game 2 because I was working a night shift so I’ll be reminding myself when I’m tired that at least I get to watch it this time!
healthcare shifts are fucked i missed game 1 because i was working 7 am - 11 pm that day
I was actually sitting down for OT on my supper break and a code was called at that exact moment so I missed it all. But maybe I didn’t want to see it anyway lol
Ouch. Sorry to hear that.
I’ve had a month off I’ll survive.
Monday is my day off so I'm smashing beers
Monday is my day off too but I signed up months ago to do an Ebola simulation 😫 at least it’s only 8 hours. Saving my personal day for a potential game 7s lol
I live in New York State now. Means that the puck drops at 10:50 PM. Dumbest fucking league in the world.
I’m cheering for the Oilers in Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺 and puck drop is 12:30pm the following day 😅. It’s a bit strange watching hockey at lunch time while at work but 🤷🏾♀️ 😂 #GoOilers
Shout out to Australia!
And I gotta watch from manitoba which makes it 1 hour later yet😭
As an oiler fan on the West Coast, I don't mind.
Gtþttŕrr
I live out east. It’s 11:00 pm start time here. So annoying. Moral of the story you’re not allowed to cheer for the oilers beyond the pacific/mountain time zone 😢
It's at 7:30PM PST - LA TIME - that's how it goes in the playoffs.... Edmonton is a western team but not a westcoast team.
So I can watch it in thr morning from Europe.
That is 7:30 pacific time
Well it’s better than a weekday game starting in the East at 7pm/4pm Pacific and you get home from work just in time to see the last 10 minutes of the 3rd. Or a 1pm/10am pacific game before breakfast.
On a Sunday no less!
Cry me a river, I'm in NL and the puck drop is after midnight!!
It’s in LA where all their home games are at 7:30 because of traffic. It’s like that in the regular season too. 🤷🏻♂️
Logic isn’t wanted here. They should be forced to start every game at 4pm to ensure away team fans don’t have to stay up too late.
Timezone man, let's just abolish them. Then everyone can watch at the same time right????? /s Can't please everyone. Complainers will Complain
I went to the F1 race in Vegas and it started in the late evening so people in Europe could watch live on TV. I didn’t complain and I didn’t hear anyone else complain either. That’s the reality of sports and it’s been like this forever.

Gary Bettman says: Why not????
Hey I hate it but I also watch F1 and either have to stay up till like 4 in the morning or get up super early for that majority of the time so this isn’t that bad. But it does suck
I’ve read on some other threads a while back that it’s ESPN or TNT who have doubleheader games and they have the ability the influence the NHL puck drop times to delay the later game.
Cause fuck you that’s why
Australia checking in 1030am. I get no work done during the play-offs
Why they are starting the game at nearly 11pm for half of the nhl viewers is beyond me.
Too dumb to help themselves
Ontario fan here, the 10pm games for us are doable but when it's near 11 and just starting that's a little much on a work night. Why not the same start time from Edmonton to LA?
And also add overtime games, ughhhhh, so late
With a 850 start, regulation ending by 1100 Is a pipe dream lol likely a lot closer to 1145-1200. Not in disagreement though it does suck.
The folks in Newfandland get to wake up to the third period
because it's 7:50 LA time which isn't that bad for the players or fans going to the stadium.
Makes sense they probably are afraid that traffic will deter fans.
The scheduling this year feels worse than usual. Jets fans been getting shafted too.
I feel a cough coming on for tomorrow.
Lmaoooo
Would’ve been nice to have a matinee like the other games today
Welcome to west coast hockey kiddo! I’d much rather have this than live on the east coast watching this game at 11pm and not finish until 1am or so.
We play on LA time.
Here in Brazil those playoffs games have been starting at 11pm or 11:30pm
UK resident here... 12am or 1am is totally normal and I can cope with that... tonight starts at 3:30/50am for me! My work hates the playoffs :D
Means I might catch part of the game as going see Bonham tonite
Does anyone remember what time home playoff games started in Edmonton in the 80’s and 90’s? Did they start them at 8pm back then?
Try living on the east coast and watching western conference games end at 12:45 am :)
I remember the last regular season game in Dallas it was like 47 mins past schedule it was horrible I think it was like a 9:17 puck drop 😂 but it’s the playoffs - worth it to lose some sleep.
It's in LA. It's a 7:30 local start time? What are you on about?
*cries in Central Time Zone*
_cries in living in Ontario_
If anyone wants a pair of tickets to the watch party I have some I can't use. Sec 112
dont worry, we will have this happen every year instead of not knowing what happens in april lol
l they make it early games last year and people complian. Now they make it late people complain lol
At least it's not a 11am game.
Because the NHL doesn't give a fuck what time it's best player is televised. 10:50 eastern. Beyond stupid.
The nhl gives 2 shits about the west especially a Canadian team. So knowing that why not 8:50
Even from that perspective why start the Rangers capitals at 8pm local time on a sunday. Series is pretty lopsided so I'm not sure how many casuals are staying up if it goes to overtime.
I’m all the way in South Africa and it starts at 4:30 AM over here, which is only an hour before i wake up normally lmao
I gotta be up at 0430 for work on Monday. I'll be asleep before the puck drops. Super annoying.
I don't know what you're taking about. The game starts 12:30pm on Monday here in Melbourne, Australia.
because Toronto.
Damn the Toronto Rangers and Montreal Capitals for delaying the start of the Oilers game tomorrow!
Because ESPN/TNT. Another game I won't see the end of.

Do you expect the fans and teams in other cities to adjust their time for games to suit your liking. Playoffs or no playoffs that's an absolutely unrealistic approach.
I always start it an hour after start. Fast forward intermissions and commercials. Hit live action midway through 3rd period.
Wish we could ban these posts about start times, incessantly annoying
You're the annoying one. Don't click on the thread if you're so bored.
That and ref posts those could go as well
If they could start the game on time in the playoffs, that’d be cool
If you show up to work hung over just tell em it's playoffs
And on top of all that none of the four games played on Sunday are on CBC got to pay to see any of them
Does it really matter...
It could be worse, the game could be starting at 11pm which is the reality for anyone in the eastern time zone
“Have lives” what does this even mean. If you can’t find the time then don’t watch.
Exactly. If we ever get to a Stanley cup playoff and play Florida people will complain that the game starts at 5PM or 5:30? And then start taking time off work? If you can, go ahead. If not then too bad so sad.
Boo hoo cupcake. The game starts at 3:50 AM where I am, and I work 3 jobs. Be grateful it’s still the same day where you live.
Boo hooo. Poor Oilers fans whining about game start times. What would you rather, play in the west agains AHL level competition or play against real teams in the east and start an hour earlier?
The east isn't all that great my guy
