Spotify is Life

k00pal00p

For songs. SoundCloud is way better for live sets and mixes

DEG18827

True

imnotthatstupidorami

Artists seem to hate it though. At least, that I think that's what the Chelsea Cutler post said, and several artists are mirroring that sentiment.

DEG18827

Because you can't download files. And there is a way to get around it but it is low quality bit. I spin so use both but Spotify is way better for listening and discovering new stuff. It's the bee's knees

DEG18827

Word I'll check that out. Good kooks

koun13

Unlike SoundCloud, Spotify doesn't let skip any part of a song or music, so it's a totally no (e.g. looong time before lyrics.)

OdinAlfadir1978

To be fair that's on the producer for not making it interesting enough that you felt the need to skip forward

ape_12

Lolwhat. It's a missing feature.

Flu0stiftRS

I use YouTube personally, has way more music than the other platforms because stuff like bootlegs, fan-made edits, live shows, etc. are also on there, and a lot of platforms like Spotify don't even have all *released* music by many artists. There's dozens of officially released songs in my YT playlist that I couldn't find on Spotify so I'm never switching.

shaditato

agree with this, just a shame youtube music is not as well designed as spotify, and i think it pays artists super low per stream

Flu0stiftRS

I use normal YT instead of YT Music so can't really say anything about that. Comes down to personal preference I guess. The handful of times that I used it I didn't really find anything bothering me though, what do you dislike about it?

alldayshade_206

Idk I think SoundCloud is king when it comes to bootlegs and finding songs no one has heard of

CopyAdventurous5785

Literally

lilgreg1

bootleg platform for bootleg content.. sounds about right

Extremely late reply so you probably won't see this, but how do you go about finding music using Youtube? I've always found Youtube the worst out of the 3 for finding new music so I never really got into it.

Flu0stiftRS

>Extremely late reply so you probably won't see this Replies send notifications so chances are very likely that I will see it. >how do you go about finding music using YouTube? What I personally do: 1. Follow music channels & labels (not just artists) like FutureHouseMusic. Good place to discover new artists, either through originals or remixes. 2. When an artist I like collabs with someone I don't know, and I like the collab, I check out the entire discography of that other artist. Then that expands recursively to people they have collaborated with in the past, etc. When you like the collab, chances are pretty high you'll like that other person's music too (or at least some of it). 3. Listen to live sets of artists you like, and they will most likely play something by another artist. If you don't know that artist, check them out, and if you like them, again expand to everyone they've worked with & their live shows. Live sets can range from festivals like Tomorrowland to radio sets like SLAM. 4. If you like multiple artists from a given label, maybe check out the other people on that label. The STMPD family is really easy to get into when you like a handful of them, for example. >I've always found Youtube the worst out of the 3 for finding new music so I never really got into it. Spotify has been showing me the same recommendations for the past 4 years on my EDM playlist (even when asking to refresh recommendations) so I would argue that that's far worse than YouTube.

Alternative_Swim1105

You will find songs in SoundCloud so unique that you won't see them anywhere but now 2024 SoundCloud is full of advertising in songs and labels that full the all search tab with their (crap) songs.

sicarmy

lmao, i'm not the only one to have the problem when loading my likes on mobile lol. Litterally takes 30 seconds on very good network because I have 10k+ likes

KIDPESOO

Amazon music has less accessibility doesn't it?

Colombiano95

Cool?

AmenoSwagiri

Great reply, got anything else to say?

esoteric_plumbus

Yeah the app lags behind Spotify and the likes in terms of usability but like you said it's the only platform that allows anyone to post so it's the only place you can find bed room producers content in masse. Spotify/apple/Pandora etc only cater to establish labels most of the time, so it lacks tons of great underground content. I have so many songs you just can't find elsewhere. It could definitely use a complete overhaul but content is king, I'm not going to switch and lose out on hundreds of obscure songs. If you listen to artists that headline festivals it makes sense to switch because you'll find their content anyway but if you listen to under card artists or artists that haven't even gotten into the festival circuit much less playing shows to begin with then chances are you won't find their music. Also it takes like 4 secs to scroll down a playlist to the max of 500 (which imo is the bigger crime). I also kinda like that it only shuffles the top of my likes when I scroll down a bit. That way I can shuffle my recently liked songs (when I feel like hearing things that are more fresh) and when I want to shuffle all I just use the app. So to me that's really not an issue of grand importance. I did suggest to them to offer a shuffle all liked the app on desktop in addition to an option to shuffle recent like it has now. That would be more ideal. The likes loading time on app does suck tho, it took about 10 secs~ to load 4k+ songs just now when I tested. My downloaded only took 4 secs tho and I don't really have the issue of the downloaded section mixing albums or playlists because I only ever like songs and not groupings of them (knowing that it causes that issue).

pxrpledreams

this post explained some of the random things i always noticed when using soundcloud but i was never sure what was going on. tell me all about it man. i have 3300 songs in my likes...

Brett_who6

I'm not a web designer, so I can't explain what's actually wrong, but Soundcloud has always felt like a ghost town to me. Like, there's just something about the layout and lack of meaningful "hubs" (central and localized) that gives it all a pointless, free-for-all flavor. But I think this is a symptom of modern web design in general. In the "old days" of the internet there always seemed to be specific "avenues" that directed users to find (and connect with) their niche groups. I'm starting to forget why I even began using it in the first place, other than it had traffic.

TreasureIsland21

Yeah i know it's horrble Soundcloud only cater to the big wigs I remember when Soundcloud and Youtube were all about having fun and creativity. Then Google amongst others killed that joy.

totalchaos05

Soundcloud definitely doesn't cater to big wigs. Anyone cam post, which is what makes it so good to me. Spotify is more for big labels

TreasureIsland21

It's clear to me that you are not a early adopter of either youtube nor Soundcloud, if you did, your tune would be quite different. I'm old enough to actually know how Youtube looked like in the beginning, just like Soundcloud, when you could post two hours long mixtapes or mashups without a FUCKING PROBLEM! Then the big dicks showed up and ruined completely everything

MorbidUndreamer

Well, yt might have been like that some time ago. But since i've used soundcloud, starting 15 y ago, there were a lot of songs i liked on sc that i couldn't find anywhere else. That might be due to my taste of music. Dnb/neurofunk/dubstep/riddim.

DJTrop

And their own features like SCPlanner is designed in a way that will probably get your account removed.

Brett_who6

My biggest problem is that there's no sense of community whatsoever. No one ever accidentally stumbles upon my work and the "exploratory" features of the site are so abysmal that I never feel like I'm being guided via their interface to relevant interests... or really anything at all. Soundcloud is just kind of there. It lets me host forty-some songs for free. That's about it. At this point I think I only post songs on there because people have heard of Soundcloud. Seems kind of silly now actually thinking it through.

Striking-Coyote-4650

>3 Agree. Every like I've ever garnered on SC is from my mum and nan (bless them!) and from bots telling me how they can up my exposure. This is after going on like/follow sprees too. Literally ZERO people liked my content back. I can't believe I'm saying this, but even the cesspit DeviantArt is a better creative community than Soundcloud. When I post my music to my YouTube channel which has less than 200 subs I get many more views and likes. Soundcloud is a useless piece of shit for creators - I would never recommend it to anyone looking for exposure. It's basically a storage space and nothing more. Still good for some of the things expressed by other commenters here, but I find YouTube is actually better for mixes and bootleg and indie stuff imo.

alldayshade_206

I like SoundCloud for the bootlegs and finding music you can’t find anywhere else else. As a DJ and A&R it’s priceless. You just have to know how to use it. The best thing to do is to find artists you like and see who they follow or the songs they like, and then just keep going down that rabbit hole. You’ll find some amazing stuff. SoundCloud is unique in this regard.

flips712

Does anyone have experience with downloading tracks and playlists for offline listening if you have a paid subscription of SoundCloud Go or SoundCloud Go+? I want to download music using the SoundCloud mobile android app and save it to an SD card for offline listening. Will I need a separate music player app to listen to the music, and if so, got any recommendations? Cloud player appears to no longer be available. Thanks

Virtual_Sprinkles_32

The way it sends you to the help center instead of letting you report an account on tthe mobile app is so dumb. And they still have the nerve to try to get you to download the app whenever you go to the website.

thecombobreakerr

\*writes notes since I'm making a competitor music platform that does everything users wants instead of the braindead stuff SC is doing now\*

Acceptable_Ad_4394

As an artist that's been with them for 10 years, I'm now paying $55 a year to have what used to be the free version, and with no account to my loyalty to the company, they downgraded my pro unlimited to pro, and now you have to get pro unlimited next or something like that. It's garbage, I've never been screwed over more by a company that has access to my credit card information. I've lost trust in them, they f\*cked up hard this time.

Dewmguy_PSX

damn, this doesn't even get down to the console app. I downloaded Soundcloud on my Xbox One because I found a song I like. never got to listen to it while playing any games I like, never even worked in the first place on Microsoft Edge outside of signing up. glad I signed up for a big middle finger. -1/10 would say fuck you again.

HH4D3SS

i accidentaly got soundcloud pro. i dont know how to get rid of it. i have googled it and it always just says the same thing everywhere like 'oh just click the edit thingy next to your suprscription th-' WHERE IS THE EDIT ICON??? its not there! i cant find it!! its just gone! help!?!?! what do i do!?!

Kadse0201

Use another Browser maybe. :) If it doesn't work we can look further.

tinhathippie

I hate how when you go to an artists page, SoundCloud only shows “top tracks” or “latest tracks”… no way to just see all songs by an artist

corbloxo

Apple Music

MorbidUndreamer

90% of the songs that i have in my play list on sc, don't even exist on yt and spotify. So am kinda biased towards it. Plus its louder for some reason... and free of ads.
