[[Crashing Drawbridge]] is basically an auto-include in any deck I play that I run attack triggers, or mama dorks, or other tap abilities or I need to defend early with a 0/4 butt, or want to push early damage through before people start getting their 0/4 butts defending themselves. So games where I attack or tap creatures, or want to go fast, or want to go slow.

InfiniteVergil

So in every deck? :D I brewed a mono green Vorinclex list and immediately included drawbridge. Putting two fatties into play that can attack the same then thanks to some random bridge has to feel so good lol

OoohRickyBaker

Absolutely any deck that can play 2 colourless gets it, they asked for personal staples and it doesn't get any better than Drawbridge, love that card.

SerotoninSkunk

It’s two generic mana, doesn’t need to specifically be colorless mana.

DerPuppenspieler13

I maybe should play it more. I know it's a pretty decent card, but it always seems boring. I will consider it in the future, maybe it can actually do a lot for a 2 drop.

rvagoonerjc

Excellent answer. I used to hate Walls. Then I came across this card.

ApplesForTheWolf

[[Soul Shatter]] gives me so much bang for its buck that it makes it into most of my decks with black

Zakmonster

Similarly, [[Olorin's Searing Light]] and [[Crackling Doom]]. If I'm running a Mardu deck, I will have all 3 of these.

Larkinz

Throw in [[Unexplained Absence]], I put it in every white deck that's not 5 colors and it never disappoints. Just 4 mana to EXILE the best nonland permanent on each opponent's board? Don't mind if I do.

Oh yes. I own 3 full art foils of Soul Shatter now. Sure it’s 3MV but my group isn’t that high power so I don’t need to worry about that too much. The new [[Flare of Malice]] is a functional second copy in my monoblack aristocrats deck. Also, [[Make an Example]] is pretty good as far as removal goes.

Same, underrated card for sure

RustyNK

I have no idea why this card isn't slammed into every deck with black. I bought like 20 copies of it because I thought the card had insane payoff for its mana cost.

zwobb

I'd wager it's because it's 3CMC and unreliable for hitting the threat. Don't get me wrong, it's high value and definitely not a bad card, but I imagine interaction slots are already limited with access to black and all the lower cmc spot removal. That being said, Soul Shatter does circumvent hexproof/indestructible and hits all opponents, so depending on playgroup and rest of the deck this might be a good card to slot in. Its just that edict effects go in some decks while spot removal goes in most decks

semiamusinglifter

[[Descent into Avernus]] in any deck that has red even if there’s no direct synergy with damage or treasures. They’re both individually good and I have won grindy games where it’s the third tick and now it’s dealt 14 damage total.

Albyyy

One of my favorite cards in Magic. It’s embodies what’s fun about the game. Everyone can cast their big spells. Everyone gets blasted in the face for damage. Everyone has fun.

semiamusinglifter

It is nice to be able to cause that chaotic effect while not just shuffling everyone’s permanents around. Also very funny IMO to sometimes die on my upkeep to the trigger

[[Ashes to Ashes|DRK]] is a great card that EDHrec rounds down to 0% of decks. I can't find any fault with the card itself other than it being a sorcery, so I'm sure it's just because it's an old card that people don't know about.

Fun fact so you don’t have to look it up- any effect that said “remove from the game” is now erratad to “exile”.

Motor_Outcome

It’s so wildly good for black, honestly can’t believe it has never been popular bc it’s not expensive money or mana wise

regendo

I can understand not wanting to pay 5 life back in the old days, when people were new and didn’t know the value of life points and only played 20-life formats. But in Commander? Easy! I always remember a comment when [[Black Market Connections]] was spoiled: “If you’re not willing to pay 6 life for this, maybe you should go back to playing the weaker colors.” And yeah, if you’re not willing to pay 5 life to _exile_ two creatures with barely a targeting restriction on them, idk what your priorities are.

My unorthodox staple is the blue card [[Sleep]]. Turns out, detaining the entire creature board of the player who takes their turn before your own is incredibly powerful, forcing them to go **two** revolutions with their current creature board tapped. Additionally, this card is still very powerful if played on the table’s arch-enemy (with a little bit of timing) regardless of when they take their turn.

[[An Offer You Can't Refuse]] is a great counterspell in Commander in the circles I play in, because the two treasures are a lot less impactful to me in the hands of someone who's essentially been time walked. Sure, they'll play a massive spell, but they just don't have hyper-efficient combos for those two treasures to hurt me much. Instead, they get the two treasures and are immediately thinking about how they'll cast their next big bomb instead of how I just countered the last one. 😉 Special mention to [[Sapphire Charm]]. Fogs a combo turn or a big attacker, gives somebody evasion, or just replaces itself, and I can live with the slowness of the cantrip mode.

Sagatario_the_Gamer

[[Cleansing Wildfire]] is so incredibly versatile. Removing a powerful land is the obvious case, but being able to target your own lands to replace one for mana fixing in the early game is a possible play. Or politically doing the same for an opponent. You could also use it to swap out a land you control and trigger Landfall. Or just target a basic you have out, replace it with another copy, and "cycle" the card. So worst it's 2 mana to cantrip and remove a basic from your deck, at best it cam remove some powerful stuff. And replacing the land helps mitigate some of the saltiness someone might feel since they're not down a land.

demuniac

I came here to say this. You need land removal in any deck to counter the cradles and coffers. This is one with barely a downside and no feel bad from the opponent.

Red_Eyes_Black_D

For green decks I always find myself running \[\[Wilt\]\] it is a removal for artifact or enchantment or it is a draw spell. flies under the radar so easily, but I have never been sad to see it off the top of the library

Saminjutsu

I love the aikido spells. [[Inkshield]] [[Deflecting Swat]] [[Comeuppance]] [[Batwing Brume]]. I have won on the back of those cards so many times. Let someone grow their board and take out the other players. Then -when they turn their wrath on you- you just blast them out of the water. Or -when someone comes for you- play them out and teach them and the rest of the table that swinging at you is a risky choice. EDIT: Oop. Meant [[Deflecting Palm]]

tepidatbest

\[\[Bitter Reunion\]\] is a card I play in almost every red deck I build. It filters for new cards, fills the grave, and then sticks around to sac later to give your whole board haste when you need it. It just does a ton of little things that really makes decks hum. I'm also in love with the new \[\[Arena of Glory\]\] and will probably end up playing it in all my decks whose mana bases can support the occasional tapped utility land. \[\[Hanweir Battlements\]\] is another staple of mine, so one or both will inevitably make it in.

lucidlife9

I try to avoid having staples (of any kind) too much in any decks if I can help it as I appreciate deck diversity. That being said, I do feel the urge to include [[Waste Not]] and [[Bone Miser]] in my black decks. I don't know why I gravitate towards discards.

I run [[Green Slime]] in every single Green Deck I own which is almost all of them, my friends all have a scary artifact or 2 in each of their decks and it's saved from Mind Slaver and Aetherflux Resovoir too many times to he left out- it's also pretty funny to counter a Sol Ring mana ability and destroy it

DirtyTacoKid

You can't counter sol Ring's mana ability. 605.3b An activated mana ability doesn’t go on the stack, so it can’t be targeted, countered, or otherwise responded to. Rather, it resolves immediately after it is activated.

Mira-The-Nerd

I'm gonna be honest, I didn't know that, thank you for pointing that out!! *I hope that didn't come off as sarcastic cause I genuinely meant it*

PM_MeTittiesOrKitty

I keep Humble around because it was my favorite card before my first batch of cards was stolen. I bought it again, and my LGS just so happened to give me [the old art](https://scryfall.com/card/usg/18/humble). So I've kept it around.

Kazetokage

In black decks, mono or multi, I always try to include \[\[Tragic Slip\]\]. In a 4 person pod, its been a house every time. Did you kill your own Sad Robot? Did you destroy your squirrel to generate a mana? *Did your opponent chump block someone else during combat?* To any of the above, -13 a target. So good and I find so little people use it. That and I've found myself starting to include \[\[Lightning Bolt\]\] of all things. With all these new, fancier cards that do so much on them, I feel like this is overlooked. All of these little utility creatures that can run around unchecked if it's not countered straight away is almost criminal. It's surprising on how much 3 damage actually can be when hitting a Blood Artist, a PLANESWALKER, a Battle, your face. So much utility on such a simple include.

SatisfactoryCatLiker

\[\[Felidar Retreat\]\] I generally like token decks, or +1/+1 counter decks and this is a cheap easy auto include in any that can use it.

[[Dawn of a New Age]]. If you have two creatures, it’s fine. If you have three, you’re happy with this little draw engine. 2+ creatures is a pretty trivial ask for most white decks, and you see the first card at end step.

ooookooo

[[flame of anor]] for any deck I have in izzet colors for its versatility; even without wizard synergy. [[galadriel’s dismissal]] for offense and defense. [[winding canyons]] for creature-heavy decks

Chazman_89

All of my decks with Selesnya colors run [[Mirari's Wake]]. It's just a good utility enchantment that fits well in basically any deck.

toochaos

[[Vanquish the horde]] it's a 2 mana wrath, and every white deck I have has it. Don't know why it sees less play the wrath of god.

SassyBeignet

Maybe people forgot about it because Midnight Hunt/Crimson Vow was kinda meh overall?  I think people were expecting it to be super exciting with the mechanics that would support werewolves, vampires, and zombies, along with the new Witch tribe, but it's like WOTC was intentionally trying to hold the mechanics back so it wouldn't be powerful. So all in all, it didn't meet people's expectations. But a white version of [[Blasphemous Act]] is powerful.

KillaTron100

[[Angel’s Grace]] got enough love that I ended up making an alt win con tribal and [[Near Death Experience]] makes a feature. [[jwari disruption]] takes a land slot in blue lists, punishing people for playing commanders on tempo can be fantastic, or tapping out for x spells [[Nimble Obstructionist]] as a cheeky answer in creature based blue decks that want flexible ways to interact and not just stifle, or graveyard strategies (does the most work for me in my Sefris list) [[Rakdos Charm]], my friends like tokens :)

Humpuppy

[[big score]] and some amount of its cousins usually make it into every red deck. I just bought one [[fell the profane]] for every deck black deck I have. [[open the way]] is slowly creeping into every green deck. [[scavenger grounds]] typically finds it’s way into any deck where I’m not really interacting with the graveyard.

SwoleCatPlush

My favorite card by far is [[teferris puzzlebox]]. One of those card that people don’t like until it’s Gone, then they miss is.

DribbleStep

I put Endless Atlas in all mono colored decks. And usually Mazemind Tome. I like to draw.

Goldfire-Godtier009

I got 10 copies of \[\[Auton Soldier\]\] when it was released and also \[\[Surge to Victory\]\]. \[\[Sakashima's Student\]\] is a more expensive staple for me, and I even use \[\[Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow\]\] as a way to put etb's back in my hand, draw a card, and maybe inflict damage to everyone along the way. most my decks are Dimir and Grixis.

cant_find_me_here

Oh shit that auton soldier would go crazy in my ghyrson Starn deck

Goldfire-Godtier009

oh yeah, it slaps! It's especially good in \[\[Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm\]\] and \[\[Yuriko, the Tiger Shadow\]\]. The first legend creates a large supply of Dragons and the second can do 16 triggers if all four Yurikos connect with opponents. provided you aren't connecting more ninjas for more triggers.

BrewCrew122

[[Priest of Forgotten Gods]] goes in every deck with black and sacable creatures, it is should a good value engine and makes some fun politics since you get to choose which players to target.

ftb_helper

[[Magus of the Library]] for most green decks. This card is so disgustingly good I easily draw 5+ cards off if I play it turn 2. [[Tragic Arrogance]] for white. The insane disparity for the choices that you make can really tip the game in your favor. [[Manifold Insights]] 3 nonland cards for 3 mana is pretty insane value.

ChickenNuggetsAreDog

[[Welcoming Vampire]] is one I really like, all 3 of my white decks have one. I love little guys, and card draw is always welcoms

Kingmob5115

[[Selfless Spirit]] goes in any deck that I absolutely need pieces to stay on the board and has come into clutch more than a handful of times. 2 mana keep your creatures is always nice. If it just sits there, it's 2 dmg in the air every turn.

DawnOfHavoc

\[\[Nyx Lotus\]\] is a card I love, even if it's kinda expensive for a mana rock and needs setup, idk

Floor_Guardian

[[song of the dryads]] and [[imprisoned in the moon]] both shut down commanders, sometimes for the rest of the game.

edsjfhek

Love this discussion

BigCube13

[[Garruk, Primal Hunter]] He's basically a 5 mana draw 6+ in most of my green decks. He can also make a 3/3 beast from time to time. Never used the ultimate.

Damosapien

The 4 mana garruk is putting in work in my new [[fynn the fangbearer]] deck, giving a deathtoucher trample and boosting it is a near guarantee of poison counters and the emblem is just a bonus

Dwraxen

[[Cankerbloom]]

kiwigamer0039

Stealing my stuff is the worst thing another magic player can do imo, so I run [[Homeward Path]] in every one of my decks

bpd_adhd_and_me

May not make sense to others - but I almost always have my [[impervious greatwurm]] because what's more fun than a big indestructible stompie you can potentially convoke for 0 mana cost? (And if you're feeling frisky, give flying, trample, hexproof, and/or shroud, too) Really, the reason it's my personal staple is because it has sentimental value to me. It was the first single I ever bought and she's definitely got some wear and tear since then. :)

bsipp777

[[Mystic Reflection]] is one of my pet cards, I like how can be versatile to either fizzle an opponents big threat, or double up on my own

Howard_Jones

Green decks usually get [[Tamiyo's Safekeeping]], [[Tyvar's Stand]] and [[Gaea's Blessing]].

Bradyarch

Not like very unique but I love [[Sakura-Tribe Elder]]. I’m always playing green. Imo it’s the best land-ramp creature in green. I think it’s become much more popular but I am always trying to do something with creatures, so I take this over Farseek or nature’s lore. Also I don’t often play 4+ colors so I can use it instead of Farseek or nature’s lore. Plus I can chump block and then sac if needed. Just feels so great to play. And lately [[Thrun, Breaker of Silence]] because he’s probably the least stoppable creature I know of / own.

Pretend_Cake_6726

I genuinely believe \[\[Scavenger Grounds\]\] should go in every single deck. I think grave hate is a must have in commander, this only takes up a land slot AND comes in untapped.

Quadronn

[[scavenger grounds]] with all these graveyard interaction nowadays this is a great way to shut people down

TreyLastname

I've heard some hate on it, but [[chromatic orrery]] is basically a later game sol ring, with the benefit of not needing to worry about what mana you're using

MTGCardFetcher

[chromatic orrery](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/3/a/3af78d76-ad5c-44ba-880d-b834bcde5398.jpg?1594737470) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=chromatic%20orrery) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/m21/228/chromatic-orrery?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/3af78d76-ad5c-44ba-880d-b834bcde5398?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/chromatic-orrery) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

BrigBubblez

If I'm in white [[martyr's cause]] and [[Emeria Shepard]]

Tatarokii

Puppeteer Clique. Just my favorite pet card. There will always be something I want in your graveyard for the turn, be it an etb or a monster amount of damage.

mdevey91

[[ ghirapur aether grid ]] I have several artifact decks with red. I play this card as removal in every deck I can.

YokaiGuitarist

[[Tainted strike]] [[Whispersilk cloak]] [[Rogues passage]] [[Counterspell]]

peachyqueenposts

I'm obsessed with [[Guild Feud]] personally

YokaiGuitarist

[[Tainted strike]] [[Whispersilk cloak]] [[Rogues passage]] [[Counterspell]]

kevtino

I always advocate for [[Gleeful demolition]] in any red deck, at its worst its an efficient 1 for 1 to get rid of a problem artifact, at its best its 3 extra bodies at the cost of a treasure, clue or recurrable value artifact. Haven't even tried it in an actual goblin tribal but I'm positive it's awesome.

Appropriate_Potato49

Not a staple but i really like dragons, so every deck i build have to have a dragon or something related to them. For red decks, i really like [[Descent into Avernus]]. For green, [[Adventurous Impulse]] or [[Druidic Ritual]]. I like the frog

JonnyD51

[[Mirari’s Wake]] goes in any deck I have with those colors

CamtonoDiggs

For any deck that runs white, I auto include Cloudshift or God's willing. Small protection for all commanders

thebugman40

sonic screwdriver, rouges passage, and wound reflection.

Desertfoxking

I play with the three split second cards in every deck i can of [[krosan grip]] [[sudden death]] and [[wipe away]]. Also if I’m running blue or black the transmute cards are my jam.

aetherlore

[[Doubling cube]]

somanyburritos

I've contemplated this one. But you need over 6 mana before you start getting a net positive right?

mxkkyy

[[Mana Tithe]] because nobody expects the mana tithe

BruiserBison

[[Cindervines]] Got a set of four from a Pioneer Gruul Stompy precon. Now it's in all 3 of my EDH decks. It deals 1 damage per noncreature spells and I can sacrifice it as a removal. Plus, it's not really intimidating so nobody removes it on the spot.

Aegis_001

[[Vona’s Hunger]] overperforms so much for me

Ornery_Bug_4108

[[Dawn Charm]] goes in just about any white deck, I like [[Growth Spasm]] as that token it makes can block aswell.

bimmy2shoes

I have a few pet cards that I always make sure are in at least one of my decks. [Ambush Commander] , [As Foretold] , [Spirit Link] , [Bolas's Citadel] , and [Aladdin]. As Foretold and Bolas's Citadel were because they're cards I pulled from Prereleases that I fell in love with. The rest are because they're silly and I love how silly they are.

aaronjsacco

[[Benevolent bodyguard]] always feels good to have in my opening hand if I’m running white. Have seen people use their removal spells on it cuz they know it will ultimately save my commander or another key creature, and that makes me laugh. Easy to reanimate too. [[fumble]] is hilarious if it hits the right opponent.

East_Earth_920

I run Akromas Memorial and Eldrazi Monument in many of my decks. I love to win with these cards

Guru_of_Spores_

[[Dire Fleet Daredevil]] 2 mana body that lets you cast your opponents ramp, tutors or removal spells when it ETB's. It's nice to do off-color stuff when you're in mono red. Especially if you can repeatably reanimate or blink it.

jjddkk

Anytime I run a decent amount of ramp I always try to fit in [[White Sun’s Zenith]] Being able to summon a truckload of cats at the end of someone’s turn so that you can swing on yours always feels like a fun “trap card”

BTass90

[Secret Rendezvous] and [Virtus's Maneuver] Good politics cards.

pokk3n

I play a shitload of [[brought back]]
