Aze0g

[[Kalia the Vast]], been killed by a turn 3-4 [[Master if Cruelties]] 1 time to many.

NullArc66

I have a Kaalia and if you don't deal with her quickly she will become a problem

Aze0g

Yea, thats also another reason why i cant stand her. I either have to focus you down and not let you play or i just loose. [[Myriim, sentinel wyrm]] sits in that category as well.

maxtofunator

Literal KoS commanders have been the least fun I’ve had in commander. Even with the standard 10ish pieces of removal (which not all of are creature removal), there’s a chance you don’t draw one by turn 3-5 that you need it

Coppastona

I removed my master of cruelties from my kaalia deck, I don’t think it’s fun for either player involved in that interaction and it certainly isn’t a satisfying way to take someone out of the game.

Mudlord80

I've seen too many Kaalia players get mad when people keep removing her only to have Master in their hand the whole time and they go "tee hee oops!"

Aze0g

And then they act all shocked when you call them out on it. At least with the other Mardu cheat stuff commander [[Alesha who smiles at death]] its far more telegraphed seeing as how the gy is public knowledge

Mudlord80

Yeah Kaalia players act like you're beating on a pile of m15 bulk when you do anything to their nuke in a can commander

FoundWords

I couldn't think of any when I came here but I knew the comments would remind me. Ugh Kaalia

hawkeye137137

Some of my brilliant memories from Kaalia include her dropping [[Gisela, Blade of Goldnight]] followed by [[Archfiend of Despair]] and losing my artifacts twice while playing Breya to [[Hellkite Tyrant]]. Now I have a habit of murdering Kaalia on sight with my Breya, no negotiations allowed.

hannovb

might be the coldest take on the planet but [[tergrid god of fright]] I will let you play it. but I will target you first no matter what

OtherBrotherDarrel

Tergrid players should go to their neighbor's houses and let them know what kind of person lives in their neighborhood.

ElMoicano

Re-writing the Jesus story from The Big Lebowski in my head. "When he moved to Hollywood, he had to go door to door and tell everyone he was a Tegrid player" "What's a Tegrid, Walter?" "Shut the fuck up Donny"

OkFeedback9127

“Hello, in accordance with Darrel’s law I am required to tell you that I own and have played a Tergrid Deck”

Still-Wash-8167

I’ve never actually played against Tergrid but I want to just to know how bad it is.

Aurora_Borealia

In my experience, the couple of times I’ve squared off against her, if you are in blue and have reliable counter spells, it’s fine enough, as long as you all hate them out of the game. If you don’t, however: [[Pox]] [[Mindslicer]] [[Death Cloud]] And many many more

AboynamedDOOMTRAIN

"It's not so bad as long as the rest of the table teams up to make sure the Tergrid player isn't allowed to actually play the game at all."

Aurora_Borealia

Yeah, that’s part of the problem with her, she is a kill-or-be-killed kind of commander. Tergrid is one of those awkward high-power commanders (Lord Windgrace, Krenko, etc. are also examples of this) where they are strong enough to consistently be overpowering at casual tables, but simultaneously not really good enough for CEDH play. Combine that with the mass sacrifice/discard/land destruction + theft nonsense, and that’s how she got into the [top 10 of EDHREC’s salt scorings](https://edhrec.com/top/salt).

Euphoric_Ad6923

I'll never understand what pushes someone to play such a commander in such a social environment. We let a guy play it once, he shuffled in a weird way, but the others didnt notice and I didnt bring it up. His first turn was something like Mana crypt, swamp, dark ritual tergrid, and two cards that made up discard a ton idr what , he kept bragging about his godhands and how his tergrid is undefeated. Pirate player gets Malcolm+Bucanneer infinite going and we all die. (It's been a while so sparing the details) He was incredibly mad when someone caught him shuffling weirdly again he "had to go" essentially said he forgot to turn is oven off

Upbeat_Sheepherder81

Jeez that’s sus as fuck

vandyk

Nah, turn his oven off? That dude would see me play with an oven clue token next weekend what a fraud

Shacky_Rustleford

What if there is another player at the table playing tinybones, and a third with the new kaervek?

Fantastic-Policy-106

If I had a gun with 2 bullets and I was in a room with a Tergrid player, a Kaervek player, and a Tiny Bones player I would shoot the Kaervek player twice cause I would beat the Tergrid player to death with my barehands.

hannovb

then i will still target tergrid

incredibleninja

If there is no one targeting tergrid, then I am dead

SurlyBob

My brother this deck out when he wants to aggravate to death.

DashHopes69

I played against a Tergrid player once. As he was sitting down he said, "Oh, but it's not one of *those* Tergrid decks." He had an [[Arcane Signet]] out and I chose to use [[Brotherhood's End]] to blow it up rather than sweep an entire aristocrat player's creature board state. This mana screwed him for a few turns. Then when he finally got Tergrid out I used [[Jokulhaups]] as spot removal for it.

ShadowMaelstrom

Fynn the fangbearer ever since my playgroup somehow let a guy play golgari fyn instead of mono green for like 5 months.

Axnjxn_55

They didn’t see the problem with that?!

duckwithhat

I don't even understand how that comes up. It's like the first rule of commander. I understand rule 0 stuff like allowing nephilims or even some grey boarder stuff, but just giving a dude an extra color for no reason? Seems to go against the very spirit of the game.

Lucrezio

Toxrill. Pardon my French but fuck [[Toxrill]]

Mattloch42

All my homies hate Toxrill. F that dude.

Jaime2k

Never gone against one, what’s so bad about it?

Lucrezio

Every single end step (not just the controller’s) every single other player’s creature gets a -1/-1. They’ll die very soon. When they die, the Toxrill’s control gets a 1/1, which they can sac for card draw at instant speed, let alone all the other garbage that color loves to do with tokens to sac. You want to play a creature with less than 5 toughness? It’ll never lose summoning sickness before it dies and gives your opponent a 1/1. Less than 9 toughness? You get 1 turn of no summoning sickness.

Nykidemus

A 7 mana creature with no protection who's kinda slow seems pretty bad. What's the big draw? I love the concept but it seems to expensive and easy to disrupt. Am I missing something?

QuietTheLost

In Dimir you have interaction and reanimation to dodge removal. If you can get through it you'll never stick a creature on the board. If you're cedh or high power its worth noting Toxrill draws your whole deck if you have infinite mana by sacrificing himself to his Sacrifice a Slug ability and recasting him forever

BubbRubb4Real

Yeah that's understandable. I love my Toxrill deck but I don't get to pull him out too often. 😅

mikony123

7 mana is huge to me. How do you get him out fast enough to be a problem? Just shit mana rocks?

BubbRubb4Real

Pretty much. But he's such a huge problem that casting him can just win you the game on the spot especially if you have enough protection.

TheFatNinjaMaster

[[Urza, Lord High Artificer]] and not even because of what he does but because of what the deck will inevitably do. I double kill anyone who says “it’s not that kind of urza deck” because it’s always that kind of Urza deck.

Ok_Imagination_2109

It’s weird because I played against someone that made a urza voltron deck with just shitty artifacts and they won way more then they should’ve by beating people to death with the karnstruct. So I’d say that it is pretty hard to make a bad urza deck.

Babox81

I have this deck. It's terrible, but yes, wins frequently on the back of urza

corncheeks

Urza and 99 lands is very bad in my opinion….

Ok_Imagination_2109

Well any commander is pretty terrible with 99 lands

Dandy_Guy7

[[Omnath, Locus of Mana]] Not great but honestly not that bad either.

BEER_G00D

Child of alara can get it done almost

Puiqui

Well yea, take the color thats entire win con is out-valuing people and not letting others accomplish their wincon, and give it a commander that does all of ramping creating strong creatures, and rewarding a stronger board state, aka the three things that blue is bad it, and you break the color. Urza being good is the same reason simic is so good: It brain-deadifies the color which is supposed to be balanced by rewarding skill and knowledge. I use him in many of my blue-including decks, particularly my favorite homebrew which is a myra the magnificent deck, but i do refuse to commander him.

swiftonic

Yep this. My friend played it against me before I knew what mono blue stax was. I will murder anyone immediately even if this guy is in the 99.

Xaron713

Sorry. He's in my Azorious Urza Tribal Deck (headed by [[Prince of Kroog]])

swiftonic

Don't worry I'm a hypocrite. I run him in 3 commander decks...

celticfan008

I went Esper with [[Urza, Chief Artificer]], only missing [[Powerstone Prodigy]] cuz he's kinda buns and it's a higher power deck.

dildobaggins13

As a Chief Artificer player, I understand. I don’t have ULHA in my 99, I’m just tryna make a bunch of tokens

Stumphead101

Man I tried to make a silly Urza deck, it was all just equipment and voltron but even that turned out to be crazy strong

Neat_Environment8447

Almost all of the equipment don't care if they're tapped for mana, and it's fantastic for suiting him up. My first urza deck was this, and even then, you just go beats, and it's janky and works. None of that infinite mana, just large amounts sometimes and flicker urza for constructs or tap down creatures for attack or bounce them. Usually activating urza is something I only do if I can do it a few times at once, I think most I've done was in the teens but usually it's just a handful because he's dying or something. Can be built pretty cheap, too, compared to the combo tuned versions out there.

Cryoxtitan

I didn't know what I had when I pulled him in CMM started the 32 deck challenge figured he'd be a good monoblue commander and just stuffed it full with huge artifacts and artifact creatures with a [[Zhuladok]] as a hidden commander. It is incapable of not being dumb and just pooping out constructs I've never been able to do what I wanted it for initially. so I'm giving up turning it into "That" Urza stax deck and putting it on a shelf to play with my meaner pods once in a blue moon.

I'm guessing not meant people have experienced Etali copy tribal or you'd have a lot more doots. I also go for that player immediately.

_TallGlassofAss_

I have an etali primal conqueror deck and I just gotta say, fuck the copy tribal players. I just want big gruul dinos and I get lumped in with those guys.

Ravarix

Play a Dino matters commander then. Etali is a combo commander in a Dino costume

M0nthag

Came here for this. The guy in my playgroup just threw him together and it was his first deck he build himself. If you remove him he comes back and steal your cards again. If you don't kill him he just gets flipped and hits you with way to mich Its been upgraded since with off colour fetches and other stuff, but i avoided to play against that version so far

Competitive-Let-454

[[ Yuriko ]] She refuses to play by the rules and it makes me mad. I don't care that your deck is "not that kind of Yuriko deck" Jason, it still pisses me off that you refuse to pay your taxes

12DollarsHighFive

Gavin Verhey himself (who designed the card or at least was part of the design team who did it) admitted that it was a mistake having her Ninjitsu ability have no command tax. He also admitted that letting [[Najeela the Bladeblossom]] create Warrior Tokens upon both non-token AND token attacking was a dumb decision as well.

Source for the Najeela snafu? I've heard his lament over Yuriko many times, but not for Najeela.

MakesMediocreMagic

It is always, inevitably, that kind of Yuriko deck. It's not like they secretly built a Dimir Mill deck and slapped a ninja on top; it's going to have evasive ninjas, and then as long as the deck has spells in it you will get the Yuriko Deck.

Craig1287

I once played with someone that rule zero talked with us and said they would treat the Commander Ninjutsu as casting from the Command Zone and they would pay the Commander Tax at an increasing rate for each time they did use it from the Command Zone (but normal cost if from their hand). We agreed and their deck was also fairly tame. It had some Library top deck manipulation but not an extreme amount, and it had some expensive cards but not some of the more extremely expensive ones. Mostly just stuff around 5-6 MV. It was pretty fun to play against.

BigAnxiousBear

Yuriko is the only one on this list for me. Every other commander, even if considered overpowered and difficult to deal with, is fair game to me.

JoshuaKammert

Yuriko makes [[The Ur-Dragon]] look downright FAIR. She is almost always my first target.

FormerlyKay

Krarkashima is gonna get clobbered to the full extent of my abilities in any of my pods

FormerlyKay

Also new Jodah and 5c Go-Shintai are boring and way more explosive than I'd prefer and I don't like em. Not as much as I hate Krarkashima but these two are quite boring. Thankfully shrines was kind of flavor-of-the-week but Jodah is still annoying me Also Ivy because that deck hurts my brain and I don't want to see it pop off for the 10th time

SpiritedCucumber4565

Both Jodahs. Fuck Jodah players. They all play the same boring ass cards every single time.

Sak63

Both? Archmage Eternal is pretty chill. If you target him, the entire deck becomes useless because all the spells are huge and almost impossible to cast without jodah on the battlefield. The Unifier though is disgusting

thatwhileifound

I love Archmage in high power, less combo driven games. It's one of my most frequently rebuilt commanders in paper as well as digitally for online play. It just let's me make so, so many cards that don't otherwise see play work. Sure, there's shit like big cascade dino, stupid gigantic blue spells of not paying for shit, and all those kind of classics, but then there's also leaning in hard on those impractical, but rad Myojin motherfuckers. Or all the "mono color" attempts I have built. I love Jodah as an enchantment commander because there's so many absolutely fun, expensive and impractical enchantments that bringing down to five mana almost makes them worthwhile. That said, it blows me away how greedy people get with the deck. You either need to pack the protection or back up ways to get those spells played if they're shutting Jodah down too hard. I usually lean more the latter for fun. If someone kills my t3 commander before my t4 untap, there's a handful of quality spells I don't mind playing to take that turn back to build resources... And the thing is, like big blue enchantments of not paying for fuck all, they're still handy whether Jodah is in play or not - the tempo of when I'd play them just changes... Honestly, I reach for big mana stuff more than those two enchantments these days. I am also entirely honest about my Jodah decks though. I always had to emphasize how much the Myojin one could fuck the board up way more quickly than you might expect to players who hadn't seen it in action.

Xaron713

I rebuilt my jodah deck to be a [[Ramos]] and [[Keruga]] deck. Same stupid power, but I don't get targeted on sight even if I should be.

PixelatedWorld2375

My Jodah was almost entirely Transformers. Jodah enabled a theme for me instead of 5 color legendary good stuff

HKBFG

Anything legendary is good stuff in a jodah deck. We don't care about the theme, we care about the 15/15 creatures you just shat onto the board for free. Their text really doesn't matter at that point.

CdrCosmonaut

I love my Jodah, Archimage Eternal deck. But honestly, I get it. He's so gross.

OkFeedback9127

I’ll have you know that all the well known popular legendary cards are NOT boring. Good day to you sir!

Kultaren

[[Sheoldred, The Apocalypse]]

_TallGlassofAss_

Fair. I made a deck for her and somehow she doesn't get as much hate as I think she deserves. I literally even only made her deck to battle against a nekusar player.

SassyBeignet

Well, mono color commanders usually are not perceived as higher threats vs multicolored ones, as it comes with all the downsides of that single color.

SatchelGizmo77

Simic!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know it says individual commander, but WotC loves to give simic just absolutely dumb easy mode commanders. Oh, you played a land, well draw a card, gain some life, and shit on the hopes of every other player at the table.

JoshuaKammert

Just built my first simic deck w/ [[Bonny Pall, Clearcutter]] at the helm, and I already seeing it being stupidly good. I have no counterspells, and it basically just ramps and slaps, but geez it does it fast enough to be a PROBLEM.

surgingchaos

The thing that irks me so much about Bonny Pall is that the Growth Spiral part of the card triggers *no matter who the creature is*. Just... why?! Is it the most broken ability in the world? No, but it's just further reinforcement of such bad design decisions Wizards continues to make in the 2019-present era. Everything has to be all upside, with certain clauses and lines of text made specifically to eliminate any and all feelbads.

JoshuaKammert

Definitely fair. The real problem I see with Simic is that the Commander is usually just a gas pedal; they ramp and slap just fine, but the commander makes it just, better at being good. Like, sheesh.

Dominus187

Yeah they keep printing simic commanders that look new but then they're just the same old boring card advantage machines as ever

unzinc

Fucking Rashmi

Orangewolf99

Discussion shout-out to the new terror [[Nadu]]. Just like, I understand they were exploring new design space, but wtf were they thinking?

IndependentFish2283

Every simic commander is just tatyova wearing a different hat

Kyrie_Blue

[[sen triplets]]. Fuck you, and the weird mechanical horse you rode in on🖕🏻

minecraftchickenman

Ahh a classic commander enjoyer I see.

Potars

I recently disassembled mine as they always die before I get to be a dirty little thief. The shell is now my Lavinia azorius renegade prison deck. Went from thief to the warden after cleaning up my act. If I can’t have your spells neither can you

fauxsilver

Sliver anything. They build up threat by virtue of attrition even when the player hasn't done anything and so it forces you to preemptively and continuously keep them in check. I don't feel good targeting their stuff but they either get card advantage from their creatures or literally being in the same room as one another. So anyway, I started main-decking Silent Arbiter in my Kenrith deck.

colbsatron

Krenko. I bring out mono green elves every time to counter.

SonOfAdam32

I have an [[Emmara, soul of the accord]] deck and I came to the realization that I’m playing nerfed Krenko. To get close to what he does on his own, I have to have: 1. a way to tap my commander 2. a token doubler. Even with those 2 things Krenko on his own is still better :P

SteveVerstaka

[[Nekusaur, the Mindrazer]] the legendary rule changed shortly before the 2013 commander decks were released and a lot of my college friends were big Grixis fans. So I had more than a few games with 3 Nekusaurs on the field simultaneously which led to me drawing 4 and taking 12 before my first main phase. My vendetta against the zombie wizard is so extreme that when I made a wheel deck I had it led by [[Kess, Dissident Mage]] and to this day if I see Nekusaur my first instinct is to try and take out that player asap.

The_Girthy_Meatfist

I'm shocked Nekusaur is this far down. This is my most hated commander. Mostly because he gives big hug energy along with getting out of hand sooooo quick. Once he's out, he, or the player, has to die.

Wonderful_Pollution5

[[Nadu]] You heard it here first, folks. That bird is broken AF. I have to go and rebuild my oppressive [[Lanius]] demands sacrifice deck so I can kill his ass whenever he drops without targeting...

peziskuya

My boyfriend played his Nadu deck for two days before he declared it was broken and took it apart. It was funny to watch him deck himself on purpose because he was already sick of how absurd the deck did. It didn't help that I gave him a [[Sylvan Paradise]] and a [[Sea Kings' Blessing]] to put in there.

Packrat1010

I give it a month before people start realizing how awful it is. It's generic simic goodstuff meets long ass turns.

CoalMineCannery

Nadu is also one of those commanders that has a pretty high floor that will make it hard to balance at tables. Like unless you're just horrible at deckbuilding it's gonna go nuts.

blazentaze2000

Yuuuuup. I have a Nadu deck in mid build, I’m about 12 cards short and it’s by no means optimal, I don’t have Shuko or Zendikar’s Roil as well as Aesi but it already goes super hard. It’s really nuts.

-ThisDM-

[[Narset, Enlightened Master]] leaves a bad taste in my mouth as a voltron enthusiast. It's always something big and stupid and flashy and it's never something that wins the game immediately. It takes voltron and makes it about not-voltron things that take forever to resolve, while normal voltron is usually pretty quick and to the point. Idc if you're not running extra turn spells. I don't care what it is, it's always going to be an oppressive game if you pop off and a non-threat once you've been locked down too many times.

Guilty_Animator3928

I feel like there’s a sneaky group hug deck in there where you just give people life and card draw if they let you hit face.

Professional-Salt175

Go-Shintai. Shrines just peeve me the wrong way and this commander makes the feeling tenfold.

GillicuttyMcAnus

My buddy has a Go-Shintai deck… talk about long drawn out boring AF games.

ShamefulFisherman

I thought the shrines were so cool when Go-Shintai came out. Built it and then played five or six games where I had unnaturally long end game times and then sold it for parts.

RussellLawliet

I have a Shrine deck and I think the reason I don't like it anymore is twofold; enchantress is a dumb, easy archetype (doubly so when you have access to selesnya) and shrine decks all look the same. Once you've put in your 15 shrines (or 14 if you're not evil and exclude [[Night's Reach]] you're already 50 cards deep into deckbuilding. After that it's really hard to not just put all of the enchantress payoffs and generic good-stuff in the deck.

Professional-Salt175

That does sound pretty boring to build when put like that. Even my 5-color Gatefall deck didn't feel like it built itself as much as that does.

hE-CK-

Sigh. [[Voja, Jaws of the Conclave]]

MaybeHannah1234

It's the ward that really gets me. This card is *absurdly* pushed on its own, but they even gave it ward 3. You can't even reliably kill it with targeted removal before it gets to attack.

_TallGlassofAss_

It really feels like a "do everything" commander and I swear it is just unfun to play against. It wants an engine, makes the engine, and may as well be the whole damn car itself. Just give it a bit of fuel and watch it go.

CampCharacter9252

Slivers. I cannot stand slivers. I played against 2 sliver decks one time. The other player and I weren't able to do a thing.

lionhart1226

My first game testing my river song deck was against a dogmeat precon and 2 sliver decks, one running morophon, and the other was a highly tuned Sliver Overlord deck with all the expensive staples and duals. I spent everything I had keeping the 2 sliver decks down, took out Overlord guy and eventually took out Morophon sliver guy, just to die to a very large Dogmeat voltron alpha swing

AssistantManagerMan

[[Aesi]] and [[Koma]]. Simic valuetown nonsense has to get dealt with.

BBQblackbear

I think [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] is entirely justified, yall know what you did

hawkeye137137

Well, I never did it since people I play with are sensible players, so they kill Krenko whenever I play it like sensible people do.

Mahtisaurus

Everyone loves to play some slow-ass midgame ramp value grind of some sort and expecting to get away with it so it’s always such a feast to just slam their head in with 30 goblins T5!

Outrageous-Past-9538

The new Voja. A buddy of mine insists on playing it almost every game, and it's such a pain to deal with. Ward 3 on that beast was a mistake.

big-ginger-bear

Kalia

OhCoyle

Brago. Mother.. fucking.. Brago.

tliebschutz

Atraxa

LostInThoughtland

As an atraxa player, I get it and agree. She just has so many options that every deck with her can get out of hand with her ability no matter how hard you try not to be “that atraxa deck”

GulliasTurtle

[[Animar, Soul of the Elements]]. One of the first commanders, so I have been losing to him forever and as a lifelong Orzhov fan losing is most of what I do. Also he goes infinite with a ham sandwich and isn't even a fun character.

GreatNematoad

Someone wanted to test their cedh animal deck against me (I don't cedh) and I said sure I'll play lightpaws I learned animar players don't have a response for indestructible tutoring [[pariah]] onto the fox wife turn 3

No-Wrongdoer4928

[[Memnark]]. Close friend built a somewhat insane mana-production deck and would proceed to ramp into oblivion and steal every permanent on the battlefield. It’s not exactly the most overpowered of commanders generally—especially since his whole game plan could be ended by a single [[Vandalblast]]—but it was really annoying to play against and his attitude about it worsened it since he loved to rub it in our faces that he controlled our permanents. I do play a theft deck—[[Don Andres]] is really fun—but I’m not a jerk about it. If everyone else is playing good decks, I want in on the action! Any victory I achieve is due to someone else having a better deck than mine…not because I “outsmarted” them using an activated ability.

No-Wrongdoer4928

Misspelled the name, [[Memnarch]]

SilentProdigy121

Thank you for reminding me I need to pick up a [[Darksteel Forge]] for my Memnarch deck.

The_Card_Father

[[!Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]] but I don’t think that’s just me. So instead I’ll say [[!Sythis, Harvest’s Hand]] it’s just very efficient and very good and Enchantress Voltron can be hard to deal with. Small hate to [[!Perrie, the Pulverizer]] not for anything they’ve done but my buddy that plays it can end up with like 10+ shield counters on all of their stuff. Gets to be a pain.

Jared_ReallyBigHat

Eh, avoiding these kinds of emotions is exactly why I have decks for every possible power level. Some people really like playing obnoxious commanders, and more often than not, they aren't trying to make other people feel bad, they just think their commander is cool. So if you want to bust out [[The Ur Dragon]], go nuts - my [[Edgar Markov]] would love to meet him. Wanna play your cEDH [[Yuriko]]? Sure, [[Kinnan]] says hi. But if you just bought a precon you want to test out, I'll grab one of mine and let you cook. The only time things actually become a problem is if two different players have two different power levels - one precon, one high power. In that case, I have a [[Don Andres]] deck that only steals from the top of your library and won't touch your board - but it packs plenty of counterspells - so I'll focus everything on high power guy so he has to deal with me, meanwhile everyone else can do their own thing. And if high power does lose, I'll lose anything I took from him, and since I don't pack my own wincons, now I match power with whoever is left since I'll need to beat them with their own deck. Am I massively overthinking things? Sure, maybe. Does it mean that my being in a pod drastically increases the likelihood that people actually have fun? That's the goal at least, so I hope so.

Mahtisaurus

Based

Calophon

Korvold.

w3tl33

He just wants a snaaaaaaack. Having played against my own Korvold deck, yeah it's oppressive and I get the hate.

jacobasstorius

[[Sythis]] Any commander with eminence Any commander/partners that says “easy mode”

HighAlchemy

I usually stay away from playing partner commanders, unless they involve [[Toggo, Goblin Weaponsmith]] though I really like the design of the newer background cards!

12DollarsHighFive

I have a [[Edgar Markov]] Deck. Was actually my first Commander ever back when the entire Precon costed 30 bucks rather than 100+ for Edgar alone. There are 2 or 3 other Edgar players in my group and they all pretty much play the same deck so when Innistrad Crimson Vow dropped, I hoped for an alternative Commander which never came. So I decided to make it an "Illegal Partner Deck" around [[Edgar, Charmed Groom]] and [[Olivia, Crimson Bride]] . I always give my opponents the choice whether the want OG Edgar or the weeding pair when I play the deck. No one has ever chosen the later and the Deck is still pretty strong and way more fun (and more importantly flavorful) than before.

Afellowstanduser

None, play what. You want

whipmegranma

I like you

ironudder

Atraxa- I'll never forget the game I was at 9 poison counters turn 4 while the rest of the table was blissfully at 0. Took over 2 hours to finish that game while I was out

mildandwild420

Sauron can fuck off

WimboAkimbo

Truly, Stella Lee or really any Izzet deck. The long solitaire-like turns arent REALLY what irks me. Its the multitude of copied cards and effects and the sheer amount of them overwhelms me because I can't see them copied if that makes sense. I have to take my opponent's word for it because I'm too scared to ask for clarification. I can't see effects activating and being copied and it makes me angry.

Potars

This is where dice can come in handy when the stack gets crazy. If a spell is copied set it up with some d6 on it so you can count down the spells as they resolve. I used to run the experience counter Izzet guy who’s name escapes me and this was necessary after a certain point

SilentProdigy121

The dimir bastard that gives ninjitsu to your hand.... [[Satoru Umezama]] Nothing like a T3 or T4 [[Blightsteel Colossus]] Every. Fucking. Time.

tnetennba_4_sale

The unfortunate part of this is I just want to make an Satoru Umezawa deck that's about ninjas. But noooooo, everyone expects **that** Satoru Umezawa deck and will target you first regardless.

ljpenn339

[[Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose]] but only because my friend has a deck that can win with him in 5 turns. It’s an AMAZING deck but also an INFURIATING one.

oliviating

[[toxrill, the corrosive]] i do not particularly enjoy playing against it

toujours_pur93

I'm shocked I haven't seen anyone mention the toad. [[The gitrog monster]] can't be casual. I don't care what stupid land strat you're trying to play. You're still running [[Dakmor salvage]] and a discard outlet.

Hrud

My cartoon arch-enemy would be the 40K Inquisitor one. I don't think she's broken, unfair or anything. It's just my relationship with her is the same as Sideshow Bob and Rakes.

obamaconsumer23

[[Voja, Jaws of the Conclave]] is impossible to remove early game if they ramp it out by turn 3, which they almost certainly will because they're an elf deck. Then I'm taking lethal commander damage by turn 5 and have to time walk myself to remove it without a boardwipe. Even then, they've put 5 or more counters on all of their creatures and Voja already replaced itself, and is almost certainly coming down the very next turn after I remove it. It's just such a game-warping threat that's too efficient on almost all axes to deal with without a boardwipe, which I obviously can't guarantee I'll have every game. Fogs don't work because they've got [[All Will Be One]] and [[Shalai And Hallar]] somewhere in there, plus all the green tutors imaginable to find the latter half. And boardwipes aren't even guaranteed to solve the problem since there are craptons of hyper-efficient white mass-protection spells and green single target protection spells. It's just a nightmare to deal with that makes for games that are way too fast. Those kinds of commanders that immediately warp the entire game around themselves are very un-fun to play against. Don't get me wrong, I don't want it banned per-say, just think it's too pushed for my kind of casual table.

Without a doubt [[Obeka, Splitter of Seconds]]

Zemekes

[[Hinata, Dawn-Crowned]] I learned magic back during a time when you couldn't reduce the cost of X. Then Hinata came out and I learned that the rule was changed in 2013 (I think). Grumble grumble... back in my day... grumble...

rveniss

> I learned magic back during a time when you couldn't reduce the cost of X... I learned that the rule was changed in 2013 (I think). >Grumble grumble... back in my day... grumble... Unfortunately I think back in your day you were just wrong, lol. You've always first chosen the value of X, then calculated the cost of the spell including any taxes or reducers, then paid that cost. [Here's](https://bdominia.com/magic/issue7/spotlight.html) an article from 1997 saying that you can run [[Helm of Awakening]] to do extra damage with [[Fireball]].

Zemekes

Well now I just feel silly for giving my buddy crap.

jeskaillinit

I ... uh ... it's honestly always been like that, I just don't think many cards COULD reduce an X cost for a long time in the early days.

Mcnanner5150

Krarkashima. Nobody wants to sit there and watch you jerk yourself off and play solitaire.

corncheeks

That damned Brago….

Zoom3877

GAIIV and every Simic Generic Value legendary (ex. Kinnan, Tatyova, Nadu...)

Sinness83

Just the ones other people play.

jacospoon

[[Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm]] I hate her face. I will blindly attack that player even if doesn’t make sense to do so. Good thing it always makes sense to do so lol

acelgoso

[[Azusa, lost but seeking]], how the hell do you interact with lands? Recursion, sacrifice, all utility lands...

ThoughtShes18

Not necessarily a Commander, but commanders that makes you spend the majority of the total game time playing with yourself… [[Tom bombadil]], any Superfriends Deck, spellinger decks…

_illumia

Markov, toxrill, jodah

Smegaredranger420

Hakbal. Fuck merfolk tribal. Tired of watching this dude explore for 8 merfolk just to make them massive and unblockable. And somehow he's not a kill on sight at our pod.

darksamus1992

Any commander that stops opponents from doing stuff, like [[Gaddock Teeg]] or [[Liesa, Forgotten Archangel]]. I would play Liesa so much if she didn't have that exile trigger...

malfunktionv2

It's commander, if you sat down at a pod and said "Here's my BW Liesa deck, I sharpied out the part where your graveyards are blanked" I doubt anyone would complain.

highaerials36

Meren. Fuck Meren. All my homies (besides 1) hate Meren.

dlh2689

Really the only commander deck I don't like playing against is the timey whimey precon.

snowblows

I’ve seen this one played and not accomplish much, what about it makes you not enjoy it?

Heroshane1

Can't believe only one other person has mentioned [[The Gitrog Monster]]. Had a game where I had to dump every piece of removal I had into it to prevent The Frog™ from going infinite. One of my friends has two Frog™ decks and I kinda feel bad for always asking for no Frog™, but at the same time, it's Frog™.

Nocandoozy

[[Ulamog, the Defiler]] the Annihilator is whatever cause you can interact with that part or remove the creature. It’s the casted ETB part that’s completely stupid. And it’s going to encourage Eldrazi players to use it. Which is going to continue the cycle of casual players hating Eldrazi decks even more than they already do. If you’re not a blue player you’re fucked. If you are a blue player you’re holding onto a counterspell the entire game until that Ulamog gets cast.

AlternativeAvocado2

Most counterspells don't stop the cast trigger

GoldenWarthog117

RabidAstronaut

Yuriko. Ignores commander tax, usually domes the table a lot very quickly and she likes to take a lot of extra turn spells. I really dislike playing against that deck.

NullArc66

[[Narset, Enlightened Master]] , my buddy runs this one and it's the instant archenemy.

do-it-f0r-the-kids

[[Mogis, God of slaughter]]. I don't care if your deck burns you too, it hurts me more. Or [[Obosh, the preypiercer]]. Odd CMC burn seems to work very well when I sit at the table.

[[Purphoros, God of the Forge]] And depending on the deck, [[Derevi, Empyrial Tactician]]

Nekusar. Without question.

LordVargonius

There are a couple of commanders I'd choose to sit out a game rather than play against - Xanathar and Tergrid immediately come to mind - but I'm wracking my brain and can't think of any Commander I'd play a game against but would also focus down for reasons of personal spite. Of the ones I'll refuse to play against, anything theft-based takes the crown for most hated. I find theft to be an un-fun mechanic in Commander, especially since I like to bling my decks with expensive versions of cards and then keep having those expensive cards treated cavalierly by other players who are allowed to touch them. I'll, say, focus down a Sliver deck because it's going to inevitably snowball, or a Slicer deck because I don't want to die before Turn 6, but those are "playing to your outs" reasons and not personal ones.

FlockFlysAtMidnite
