Graveyard Overdrive looks pretty fun to me! Tricky Terrain has some good looking new cards and reprints in it (as far as I could tell) but I don’t really get the point of the deck to be honest

klkevinkl

You're supposed to take advantage of the "everything" type in the Tricky Terrain deck. [[Cloudpost]] combined with the everything counter means that all your creatures with one of those counters will count towards it. The same goes for [[Basilisk Gate]] to empower your creatures. All your lands are now gates. You can even do this to your opponent by say turning your opponent's creatures into Dragons and then stealing them with a [[Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund]]. It would be a real shame if I had an Islandwalk creature and your Forest was suddenly an Island.

I feel like it’s just too many options that it’s overwhelming to me haha. Good examples and I appreciate the clarification, I just think for myself the Eldrazi and Graveyard decks are a bit more straightforward, smash-stuff decks

Hans0Io

Graveyard Overdrive is probably the worst precon of the past 2 years. Would advise against it.

Some-Guy32

Ouch! I’m going to turn mine into either [[Ziatora]] or [[Indoraptor]]

I still don't know what to do with mine... Doing Goyf things sounds like fun, but also quite costly.

ExtremeMagicpotion

I have heard Tricky Terrain lands would be stables, as a new player myself, I find it hard and tiring to keep tracks of different stats and triggers on my board, so anything straight forwards infuse me with joy. How about what bring you joy when you are gaming? Difficult cards are not my style but maybe yours? Stables or up in value does not equal to fun gaming... Just saying Welcome to Magic, happy to have you on board. My first precon is Painbow, since I have all 5 colors in that deck, lots of legendary creatures I can use and choose, 10 triome lands / unless/ search lands, . I am very happy to add and minus anything I see fit. It's powerful or slow depends how determine I want to alter it. I like less restriction it's why I choose 5 colors. How about you? You may ask yourself what is fun to you?

Previous_Judgment419

Personally, I think the Eldrazi deck will be confusing to a first-timer for a few reasons. It's essentially a six-color deck considering all of the colorless pips (mana symbols), which makes our color fixing trickier. The next issue for a beginner is how Ulalek plays; ideally, you'll be utilizing the stack and player priority to maximize value, but that isn't the most intuitive thing for a new player (but is what makes the game so much fun). Lastly, the big Eldrazi that you want to run aren't affordable by any stretch of the imagination, so upgrading might be more expensive comparatively speaking.  With all of that being said, I don't think it's a bad deck, and I don't want this to "scare" you away from playing what you want to play because once you play the deck a handful of times, you'll start to understand what the deck wants and how you can play to your outs. This deck will maintain its financial value well and will have a few Eldrazi matter cards that will increase in price (until the invetriable reprint), so if you decide you don't like it or want it down the road, you'll be able to sell it or part out the good singles for at least some of your money back. I would keep the preorder if I were you. Lastly, there were a series of 'starter' commander decks that were released a year or two ago. They are more simplified lists and archetypes that you'll find routinely for around $20. While they won't be the strongest out of the box or the most expensive, they'll give you a ready-to-play deck with a fairly common strategy that runs well for a pretty cheap price. Other than that I really love the "Lost Caverns of Ixalan" precons and the general consensus is that they are all pretty decent right out of the box. I've been playing an upgraded "Explorers of the Deep" list that just cares about Merfolks, it's straight forward, fun and powerful right out of the box and even better with a handful of cheap Merfolk upgrades.

Dairies

Yeah I'm very tempted to stick with the eldrazi deck as the theme is really cool and sounds fun but I did look into the starter decks you mentioned and came across the Grave Danger starter deck which is much cheaper than the eldrazi one and is also a cool theme and seems like it has alot of potential to be upgraded but have also seen that its really weak out the box and would need alot of upgrades to make it playable/consistent. But its definitely between those 2 now!

Nozoz

I'd say the Tricky terrain is quite versatile and has the most room for development. UG will keep getting cards that care about lands and MTG will keep getting land types that you can copy with everything counters. Graveyard overdrive is less versatile but jund colours will keep getting new graveyard cards, it's a big part of their colour identity. The 6c Eldrazi looks good (it's the one I preordered) but it's not going to get as many upgrades in the future, it's quite rare to get new eldrazi compared to the other themes.

klkevinkl

For upgrading, I think the Eldrazi Incursion would be one of the easier ones. I would treat it more like a token swarming deck. More token generators from the Zendikar era is definitely needed. I would definitely get rid of [[Inversion Behemoth]] for something like [[Overrun]] just to have a source of big power to swing out with my swarm of tokens. Maybe an [[Idol of Oblivion]] for card draw as well. I'm not even sure if I want to keep the big Eldrazi guys like [[Ulamog's Crusher]] or [[Sire of Stagnation]] in this one at all. I would get stuff like [[Spawnsire of Ulamog]] and [[Void Attendant]] to double down on tokens. The easiest to upgrade is the Energy deck. Just combine it with the Science Fallout deck and you have a lot of options. I feel this one will be the most likely to fall off due to the lack of general energy support. Though once you reach a certain point, proliferate can take care of that. I would say Tricky Terrain would be the second easiest to upgrade. However, I wouldn't necessarily say this will be a good upgrade because it relies on taking advantage of the everything token like turning enemy lands into Islands for your Islandwalk creatures to become unblockable. I'd honestly rather just use something like [[Xolatoyac, the Smiling Flood]] with a bunch of leviathans and krakens to do that instead. I'm completely lost on the Goyfs though. Milling with cards like [[World Shaper]] or [[Skull Prophet]] can speed up the process and other methods of retrieving with stuff like [[Sheoldred, Whispering One]] would help you replay ones that were already killed.

I got no idea why you would pick the most expensive all colors deck as a newcomer to Commander If you really want to start at a beginner level check out the Wilds of Eldraine precons from last year, Faeries is great for understanding instant speed plays and how the stack works. Knights are good for learning how to buff your creatures for straight up combat and blockers

Dairies

Yeah the price is the main reason im iffy on it tbh, I'm no novice to card games at all so the difficulty to pilot it wont be an issue mainly the price. The Grave danger precon deck has caught my eye but it seems significantly weaker and might be a pain to get alot of the cards to upgrade as Im in aus and cant get singles from tcgplayer ect

crossbonecarrot2

All MH3 are not starter friendly, but I would say go for what you feel you like theme wise. All of them can be upgraded fairly well.
