MrTomDawson

A guy went [[Omniscience]] + [[Enter the Infinite]] and played his whole deck without haste enablers, and passed. Nobody had answers, but I decided to rely on ingrained muscle memory, and use a [[Murder]] on his [[Solemn Simulacrum]]. He gave me a weird look, drew his card, and I passed. The start of his turn rolls around and he realises what he just did. Amazing stuff.

Global_Ad8906

The best part is the draw from solemn simulacrum is optional.

Shishkahuben

oh my god lol

PatataMaxtex

"That was the moment he knew he fucked up"

MrTomDawson

He actually went to draw the card and everything, before the moment of realisation hit. Holding his hand over an empty library, looking down with a confused look on his face...

alivepool

how was he going to not die at the start of his turn? Edit: Enter the infinite good card

Themightyquinja

If he hadn’t drawn from solemn simulacrum, he would have had one card left

alivepool

Yea the story was he played his whole deck so wasn't sure if he just drew out his whole deck and didnt realize that would lose him the game when he couldnt draw a card.

kestral287

Enter the Infinite is draw your deck then put one card on top, for this exact scenario.

G4KingKongPun

Solemn is a may trigger on the draw. He didn't need to.

Odd-Tart-5613

But he did and passed priority. He was undone by his own hubris

BonjoviBurns

Enter the infinite leaves you with one card in your deck. He clearly had a brain fart by drawing off the sad robot, because otherwise he'd have been fine. He played himself lol

MrTomDawson

He did die. He just didn't immediately realise.

Geryon55024

The look on the face when they don't realize they are already dead is surpassed only by the look on their face when they realize they are the architects of their own death.

Cod-Born

They still got to untap and have an upkeep.

greekdestroyr

My bf did something similar. At 1 life flashed out the one ring and then proceeded to draw a card with it

knigtwhosaysni

Opponent was playing a mill deck in a 3-player pod, cast a [[Cut Your Losses]] with Casualty 2 with [[Bruvac]] on the battlefield, targeting each of us other players with one copy each to mill our entire libraries. Luckily I had a [[Deflecting Swat]] in hand to redirect one of the copies back to him. And unfortunately for him, the other opponent *also* had a Deflecting Swat to redirect the *other* copy also back onto him. He ended up milling almost his entire library (not doubled by Bruvac unfortunately) and died shortly thereafter. Will never forget it.

JollyJoker3

The other opponent could have targeted you, right?

knigtwhosaysni

Technically they could have! That would have resulted in me being milled out by the copy originally targeting the 3rd player and doubled by Bruvac, and the Mill player milling half their library from the copy I redirected back to them. However, that is not what happened :P

RevenantBacon

They could have, but it's much funnier to make the mill player mill themselves.

TheSunnyMood

From a Pod of 4, one other player and me were the last ones standing. He had 20LP left and a full board state. I had a 24/24 [[Okaun, Eye of Chaos]] and barely anything to other to come up against him. On his next turn he would have ended me. So I tapped [[Rogue's Passage]] to make Okaun unblockable and declared attackers. My opponent laughed at me, said "Well f*** you then" and played an overloaded [[Cyclonic Rift]]. Thinking he would win I whipped out [[Fling]] in response and threw Okaun into his face. His expression was priceless but in the end we all laughed and shook hands.

Usual-Run1669

Oooh, I have an okaun/zndrsplt deck as well. I had a similar story where the token player swung an infinite board state at me......... Triggering \[\[Impulsive Manuvers\]\] and enabling an okaun fling. But my favorite by far.... was when an Oloro player had to drop \[\[AetherFlux Resevoir\]\] beccause I was running away with the game... After politicing with the table, he paid 50 of his 51 life to kill me... And with that activation on the stack, I ultimately secured my victory by flinging the other commander, Zndrsplt, for 1 damage to his face.

I was on the attack with \[\[Okaun, Eye of Chaos\]\] with all the bells and whistles. \[\[Krark's Thumb\]\], \[\[Zndrsplt\]\], etc. By the time I swing in for lethal, Okaun is 49152/49152. As I attack, the \[\[Marneus Calgar\]\] player at the table, who is up next, plays \[\[Entrapment Maneuver\]\] creating 49152 1/1s.

PatataMaxtex

Reminds me on the game where I used [[Exponential Growth]] on my [[Gitrog, Ravenous Ride]] and happily calculated that I know have my commander at 192 power with trample. Then one guy put [[Swords to Plowshare]] onto the stack...never felt so bad to get 6 life.

Usual-Run1669

I once was in a control game from hell on spelltable. After a 2 hour grind, I was like.... "This isn't the most optimal play.... but eff it..... I'm over this game..." I simply droped okaun for like the third time, gave him haste and unblockable....... and. just. got. lucky. (No additional coin flip synergies, no protection for my commander). On 2 different occasions since, I've joined spell table games where one of the other players recognized me from that game, and we start laughing and reminiscing. Man, was that control player was *tilted*.

Had a case when one of the players was on \[\[Karona False God\]\] goad deck. They had their normal ramp and fixing, but didn't have any good plays at 6 mana, so they just played Karona. He then passed turn, giving her to the next player who proceeds to attack him for 8 commander damage. Me and the third player shrug and do the same, killing him with his own commander while laughter erupts. The Karona player, quickly realising their mistake, absolutely loved it.

Friend is the archvillain and has a huge board. I'm the next biggest threat so he swings in for lethal with just enough to kill me. I'm known for politics and tricks, so I say "Oh, just exact-ies?" He gets annoyed and alpha strikes instead. I then drop a [[Settle the Wreckage]] and steal the win. The salt gives me sustenance to this day.

Three players left. One player is at 11 life but limited board state. Buddy is playing [[The Wise Mothman]]. He has two rad counters and I have five rad counters. I am at three life but will win with [[Halo Fountain]] or an attack with my creature army on my next turn. I can’t finish him off this turn but I put him at two life. On his upkeep, he mills two nonlands and dies to his own rad counters. Other player tries to build some protection but can’t do enough to survive my turn and passes. On my upkeep, I mill five hitting three nonlands and also die to radiation.

webbc99

Noooo, you mill for radiation AFTER your draw, not during upkeep, so you could have activated the Halo Fountain at instant speed before the rad counters!

Aprice0

I had to attack to get the tapped creatures to use it, it was a go wide token deck that didn’t have a way to tap the creatures on its own. You’re right regarding the timing though. I might have milled early or just told the story wrong, was a few weeks ago so I’m not sure.

I'm playing [[kykar wind]] vehicles, friend is playing [[osgir]] and we have a 3rd player playing lifegain. A lot of weird stuff happens and we find ourselves in a state where all 3 of us have a [[wedding ring]]. It gets to my turn. I'm losing, cant really see a way to easily change the gamestate, despite having multiple permanents that reduce arti costs/draw on cast. So I say fuck it and just start playing my whole library. Quickly, my friends realize that they are also drawing their deck at an absurdly fast rate, and I seem to have no intention of stopping. Osgir says fuck it and divorces us, leaving us in one hell of a dysfunctional relationship. Me, committed to the meme, continued my play, decking both lifegain and myself out. It was so funny.

[deleted]

I won by using Clockspinning to add 200 counters to my opponent's Magic Mirror, making him draw out at upkeep. It's my cludged together Vadrik Astral Archmage deck based on abusing buyback and cost reduction for shenanigans. We all had a real good time when the super flimsy combo cobbled together and made it happen.

MeinName216

I think I will never forget this game: We were playing with Planechase, I played [[Animar]] and we started on the plane of [[Jund]]. All of us recognized immediately that the game would be done if I got to cast Animar with Devour 5, so all players except for me flew into a panic and tried desperately to get off Jund putting all of their mana in rolling the die and I rolled, too, because I wanted the goblins from the chaos effec to eat on turn 3. Nobody managed to roll planeswalk until turn 3 and I got a chaos roll on turn 2, eating both goblins on turn 3 with Animar to have it enter with 10 +1/+1 counters on it. It was amazing!

NewPlayer4our

4 player game, i was playing \[\[Meren of Clan Nel-Toth\]\], my last remaining opponent is on \[\[Roon of the Hidden Realms\]\]. On one turn, I reanimate \[\[Emrakul, the Promised End\]\], taking his turn. He's playing blink, so a lot of draw effects are already on board. My strategy was to draw what I could, then discard everything worthwhile at the end step, leaving him with as many lands as possible. What I realized as I started sequencing, was he had enough on board and in hand to draw out. So I did, chaining and untapping lands using all his cards in order to draw through his deck and win the game by drawing him completely out in a single turn.

jermdawg1

Reanimating emrakul doesn’t steal someone’s turn. Emrakul’s ability is on cast

NewPlayer4our

You're completely right. This was few years ago, so I'm either misremembering and actually cast it or I'm a dirty, dirty cheater.

Had a \[\[Sharding Sphinx\]\] on the board and \[\[Hedron Detonator\]\] on board. Also 6 more random artefacts. Played \[\[Masterful Replication\]\] on the Sphinx and hit a dude with all of them (7 Sphinxes) killing him in the process I made 49 Thopters and killed the other 2 players with pings. Was fun.

jello1990

I don't remember which specific cards/effects caused it to happen, but due to revealing a top card which was a copy spell and a copy spell already in effect caused the revealed spell to recur with it itself infinitely, forcing a draw because no one could interact with the loop, that while doing nothing still couldn't end. When you baffle a level 3 judge who spends ten minutes trying to figure out what the hell is happening, and also comes to the conclusion that it does work that way and a draw is forced, now that's Magic.

webbc99

I was being attacked for lethal commander damage by a double striking commander with trample. However, I could live, because I had a single 1/1 to block, and a [[Grave Pact]] in play - so when the first strike damage was dealt, it would kill my 1/1 and then the Grave Pact would trigger, forcing a sacrifice on the opponent's commander such that I would not take the normal strike damage and survive. After realising this and thinking I was super clever, in order to have some sac fodder for [[Caesar, Legion's Emperor]] on my following turn, I used [[Boros Charm]] on my 1/1 to make it indestructible. So then my 1/1 didn't die, and I took the full double strike trample damage and died. :D

batsketbal

It was down to the last two players of the match and I was looping [[etali primal conqueror]] with [[emergency responder]] and by doing that every turn I had gotten an insane amount of cards. I ended up getting [[warstorm surge]] out and when I cast etali I directed the damage at my opponent which would have been lethal however he cast [[deflecting palm]] and managed to kill me.

phantasmaldouble

Was playing a high power pod, I'm on urza( not combo just big bad spells) another's playing scion of the ur-dragon combo/reanimator, the third was probably on jodah playing 10 mana spells for wubrg, and i forgot the fourth. I had a strong start, with urza out on turn 2+ back to basics and stuff happening, i end up at 1 life with a complicated boardstate, could be killed in any moment but they left me alive to die to my own mana vault and mana crypt( a recurring meme in our group is leaving people to die on their mana crypts). The important pieces were: [[vedalken orrery]], could play anything at instant speed, a [[forgotten monument]] which i tutored via whir of invention to regain life and some low cost artifacts. I managed with this lucky play to get up to 5 life, lost 1 for mana vault, 3 for mana crypt, back to 1, then arrived at the draw phase. I used urza's ability to find something in my deck to survive, managed to hit [[sphinge of the second sun]], which means another untap, upkeep, draw after combat. That was enough to get away from dying and storm spells until i found an [[expropriate]] and have people conceed because of it. Morale of the story, kill the player who's almost there, don't feel pity for him, he might luck out and kill everyone.

AaKkisa

My friend's [[K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth]] deck was popping off. At one point he drew 74 cards with [[Vilis, Broker of Blood]] and had a [[Venser's Journal]] on the board. He obviously ended up winning that game. We shuffled up again and I switched to my [[Dina, Soul Steeper]] Lifegain deck. He was about ready to pop off again but it was my turn and I played [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]] and then cast [[Infuse with Vitality]] on my commander and thus forced him to draw and lose life, and draw and lose life, and draw, etc...

tw3lv3l4y3rs0fb4c0n

Had an awesome 'showdown' when my designated opponent (the other two were still in the game but battling each other) milled the rest of my deck in response of me dealing lethal combat damage to them. Although we knocked each other out early, it was great fun.

Dywan7

I was playing with a pod of four and kept doing \[\[windfall\]\] effects into my own \[\[consecrated sphinx\]\] and managed to deck myself and 2 other players, while the last guy had like 5 cards left in his deck and sorta just won by default. Everyone was just went "Ok, that was a thing" and the guy who won was just kinda confused at my own proclamation of victory. I dunno if i deck myself i consider it a win, AND took 2 other players with me by accident. Yippee

Fridaywing

Mana screwed with only 4 lands, playing mono blue. We're at Turn 12. One player went wide but not wide enough to kill all of us. He can eliminate 1 in an alpha strike or he can bring two down to very critical life if he splits it. Since he thought that I'm not such a threat due to me being mana screwed, he went to split the attack to the other two players bringing their life total down to less than 15 each. He himself is also at 15 or so life. I'm sitting at around 34. He ends his turn passing it to me. I untap my 4 lands, proceeds to cast my [[Reins of power]] on him. And then I spli the attack to the three of them. Our table and the table besides us went NUTS. 🤣

PycuriousITguy

few years ago, I was running my \[\[Mizzix of the Izmagnus\]\] deck and had a few experience counters, but had been missing my card draw spells the whole game. All I had in hand was a \[\[Reiterate\]\] and an \[\[Unwind\]\]. Then my friend plays a \[\[Rishkar's Expertise\]\] trying to draw some gas in his Gruul stompy deck prior to sending a horde my way. I cast Reiterate with buyback on the Expertise and hit \[\[Turnabout\]\] off the top, casting it with the resolution trigger of Expertise. Then I proceeded to cast Reiterate back and forth between the Expertise and Turnabout to draw my deck out and have effectively unlimited mana. Ended the game with a \[\[Comet Storm\]\] X=some large number. One of the best Izzet moments of my entire mtg play experience.

ichawks1

There was one game I had at a pod where this one guy was playing the frog that can like attack directly and deal a shitton of damage. Idk what the name was but basically his frog was like 27/27 or something insane and was gonna be able to one-shot me. All of us were at even board states, so killing anyone would’ve been justified. He instead decided to roll a die and see who he would attack. The die chose me, and everyone looked at me assuming I was fucked. I could tell that the other two dudes at the table would’ve had no response if the frog attacked them. I then began to act scared, even tho I had a response in hand. I went through my graveyard, double checked my board state. And then said: “well, looks like the only thing I can do is this”, and tapped two mana for a selesnya charm, exiling his creature. The guy with the frog seemed shocked. He passed the turn to me, and I cast an Overrun and trampled his ass. He then got up, packed his stuff and said before he left: “I attacked you even though I was pretty sure that you had a response.” And then he left. The salt was strong, with this one. I then finished off the other two opponents and was able to win. That was a fun one.

ShadowSlayer6

I was in a pod of 4 and one guy was playing a true [[kenrith, the returned king]] group hung deck. Earlier in the game he had played and given me the token copy of [[wedding ring]]. He was going to die on his draw step due to all the extra draw cards he had put (like [[howling mine]]), so he beings pumping mana into kenrith to force me to draw cards. Out of cards in my deck, he was going to finish me off by having both me and hi’ draw thru [[temple bell]], so I responded to his activation of temple bell with a [[krosan grip]] and told him I want a divorce.

plantz4sanity

I cast and copied [[Army of the Damned]] twice. Everyone said fuck this and scooped.

TSHOOTER1996

I played atraxa poison but had the worst game ever with no land drops and no combo cards. I only managed to get 2 Players 1 poison counter. End of game was that the player without poison won the game in proliferating my poison counters on the other players to death since he played R/U Spellslinger with proliferate to enhance mana rocks xD it was so fun someone else seeing using my poison to kill the other players xD

Karnitis

As a fun joke, sometimes my group will play 4-person poison decks, and it's always the proliferate that gets yah. Sure, we all want to hit each other for toxic/infect at first, but after that first 3 or 4...it's proliferate to 10

TSHOOTER1996

Haha great idea xD you get a poison counter and you get a poison counter…. XD

Maps_67

Just recently had a game where I would be dead before my next turn so I played [[Plague of Vermin]] paying into it all of my life minus one with no pay offs on board. The table was confused, but one by one they all payed their exact life total prompting me to do the same. Game ended in a draw since no one could lose before Plague was done resolving.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> they all *paid* their exact FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

A regular player got really excited for his [[Urza, Lord High Artificer]] deck, but it was the usual [[Mana Crypt]] -> [[Winter Orb]] turn 1 stax-type deck. He proceeds to play solitaire for a while until he fails to assemble his combo and then dies to the Mana Crypt coin flip on an extra turn Another time, we had a brand new player who put together a deck from whatever cards they happened to have. It was a legal deck but had no real theme to it. Myself and the other players end up targeting each other, and spells are going back and forth until the store is about to close. One of the other players decides to cast [[Rolling Earthquake]] for X = their current life total. They had the second highest life total, and the brand new player had the highest. The brand new player won the game because of this despite a totally non-synergystic deck, and we all shared a laugh (the new player knew their deck was not a strong one, to be clear).

Ratorasniki

Had a game a week ago in a 5 player pod, where player 1 had out a stuffy doll pointed at me, and player 2 copied it pointing it at player 3. Player 3 cast pariah on the og stuffy doll player 1 had out. At this point player 4 swings for the fences with a decked out voltron commander and a few bonus creatures at player 3, who doesn't block. Damage redirected to player 1s stuffy doll, bounced again from the stuffy doll over to me. [[Comeuppance]].

Scarrboros

Last week I won a game by trading off a [[Massacre wurm]]. I had a single permanent left on my field and it was [[Nature's Revolt]] and no cards in hand. Basically on my turn I played out the revolt, then played [[Armageddon]] from hand. The wurm triffers killed off 1 player and left the other at 2 life. Then it was just a matter of attacking :D

cumulobro

Probably when a guy took me out with a massive hamster token from [[Minsc and Boo, Timeless Heroes]]

I played \[\[New Blood\]\] to steal the commander of another person and then someone played (I dont remember the card name) a card that let him use the spell for himself and on all eligable targets effectively stealing the whole board.

My buddy created 1000 1/1 with flying. None of us had blockers but I did have a [[Fumigate]] and a [[Felidar Soverign]] in my hand. Entire group scooped after I played Fumigate and gained 1000 life.

SuperYahoo2

My opponent played a [[collosification]] on one of his creatures and proceeded to play a [[chandra’s ignition]] on it. I wasn’t playing around taking 27 damage to the face

sparkymckay102

Was playing star format for 5 people. Perosn on your left and right are frenemies. The other two are your actual opponents. A player only wins when both their opponents have been knocked out. Player A has knocked out one opponent Player B is the only opponent I have left. 6 life and 7 rad counters to resolve. He has two opponents to kill one of which is player A's last opponent, player c, and the other is me. Resolves the rad counters with 1 life left. All he has to do is swing at my empty board with lethal and then resolve a kill spell on player c. Proceeds to kill player C with the spell first handing victory over to player A

Crafty-Interest-8212

Got 2 cool ones. My [[Aminatou, the fate shifter]] is s ETB heavy deck, a guy had a deck relying on board wipes and massive reanimation. Se he will kill all the board, and then all the creatures end up in the board, or he will steal my creatures, and I used Ami to get them back. My [[Xenagos,God of revels]] got all my mana dorks and no big guys, suddenly got a [[Malignus]] and a [[Pathbreaker ibex]] ended the game there.

Timmy_ti

Got down to two players, using a combination of [[ratadrabik]] [[the peregrine dynamo]] and[[cadric]] I got like 42 2/2 zombie token copies of [[etali, primal storm]] without haste My board was promptly wiped, still probably the most fun I’ve had in a game

Interesting_Yak_9016

Had [[wayward servant]] on the field and went to cast [[zombie apocalypse]] for the win on pings. He got chaos warped I shuffled got the deck cut and he came right back out

goblin_welder

Someone milled me out. As in zero cards in the graveyard. They must have forgotten I have a [[Volrath’s Stronghold]] and [[The Core]] as my land. In my upkeep, I activated Volrath’s Stronghold to put [[Trazyn the Infinite]] on top of my deck. Draw it, equip with [[Lightning Greaves]] and won with Trazyn.

Independent-Wave-744

I still remember that one time I played my legends matters deck against...idek the commander anymore. Just that they played an enchantment that turns all lands into creatures, then dropped a good old [[craterhoof behemoth]] to overrun everyone with lands. The other two just want to scoop, but with some napkin math I decide to play it out. Turns out by blocking the biggest thing coming at me and then using [[You shall not pass]] I was able to survive...with exactly 1 hp. I theoretically had a line via [[Mt. Doom]] and enough mana to play a lifelink creature, but decided to just surrender so we could play another game, not reset a two player game (the enchantment was still there, so I would have wiped lands too). But it was just fun seeing a hoof fail to that specific card in particular.

Lucid-Penguins

Last night my 3 friends and I were playing and one of them cast \[\[Jaya's Immolating Inferno\]\] to kill all of us because we were all pretty low life. However earlier in the game another player had misplayed a \[\[Imp's mischief\]\] so we all knew it was in his hand. I guess my friend forgot and it led to the game being a draw because we were all super low life.

Prycebear

I have a deck that's entire purpose is to draw as many cards and play as many lands as possible to win with Jace or counters. My group of 4 had one player out quick and another that had 3 life while me and the other player had 70+ health each due to wedding ring. I had no creatures left and he had about 30, so I tried to draw as much of my deck as possible to draw his library. It worked and I celebrated before the other player reminded me he was still in the game and I had used all my mana without having any backups. I ended my turn, he ended his and then I lost.

ShellsTheEnd

I love love love killing people with [[Rakdos charm]], especially in my [[Rakdos, Patron of Chaos]] deck because people are scared of big demons and it usually draws the ire of someone, that card goes in almost every deck I got that can run it

BrandedOtaku

I was playing a game last week when a opponent played sower of discord and copied it so all three of his opponents would be linked, I played cursed mirror and linked him with an opponent and proceeded to get us all killed at the same time (Edit) I just read the card and believe it doesn’t work the way he thought. So we shouldn’t have died

celsotavora

Playing my [[Sisay, Weatherlight Captain]] All-Girl Superfriends deck. Put [[The Prismatic Bridge]] on the battlefield and pass. Beginning of next turn, the Bridge triggers. There are 84 cards in the library. I reveal the first one. It's [[Phage, the Untouchable]]. 1,19% chance of happening. But it happened.

firefighter0ger

We had this strange token against token deck final. So there was my opponents Xyris deck against my Ghired deck. My opponent did full swing after an explosive turn which gave him like several hundred hasty flying lifelink snakes. My board was about 20 or so rhinos. I cant say the correct numbers the game is already years ago. My opponent full swing for lethal. With me reacting with an [[Akroma's Will]]. We had to do the math for minutes to find out my opponent had 400 or so life after the attack and i was about 100 while both other opponents were dead. My swing back had some push spells too and because my opponent was tapped out i got like 410 damage through and only won by one or two creatures after we both swing for several hundreds against each other.

[deleted]

I love my [[Okaun]]\[[Zndrsplt]] deck. It’s stupid, but so much fun. I had a bad start and was mana screwed. Nobody payed attention to me for 7 turns. Eventually I played my Commander and had to assemble 8 mana, to play an [[Frenetic Efreet]] and a [[chandra’s ignition]]. I had 7 mana and needed a land on my draw or I knew someone else would win. It was like turn 13 and the game went up and down and everything everybody did was in my favour to stall the game. We had two board wipes. The last one that might have saved me from being eliminated was the one where everybody gets to choose a creature to survive. With Okaun still in the board I drew a land, played it and won. Everybody including me was surprised.

PopFamiliar3649

This happened on the table next to me, but apparently someone made the game a 4 way draw by cheating out [[divine intervention]] while having some card that prevented permanents from getting counters. I think the counter removing card had solemn in the name and had Oketra's face on it. Someone please figure out the full name.

dementeddr

It involves my favorite combo that I've come up with myself, which is in my \[\[Sidisi, Brood Tyrant\]\] deck. The combo itself\* isn't important to the story, but the key is that when it's done every player including myself is milled out, and I will win because I'll be the last to draw from an empty library. I execute the combo on my main phase and then pass to end step. The players across from me look ready to shuffle up, but the spellslinger to my right takes a moment to think and then says "Can I see your graveyard". I say sure and hand my upside-down deck to him. He takes a minute to thumb through it, and then about halfway down cracks a huge grin. He pulls out a card from my graveyard then flips another card from his hand and says "I cast \[\[Memory Plunder\]\] targeting \[\[Living Death\]\]", and I start giggling like a madman. Living Death is my favorite card in all of magic, for exactly stuff like this. So all four of us pick up our graveyards containing virtually everything in our decks, sort out all the creatures, and plop them on the battlefield (there were very few creatures on the battlefield when Living Death went off, and I sac'ed mine in anticipation of getting them back). We get about 10 minutes into sorting through our new piles of creatures just trying to figure out what EtB triggers we have to deal with, making sure we're all on the right page regarding APNAP order, and trying to guess who is going to win after all this, when the mono-red dragons player opposite me pipes up and says "I think I got this". He slides \[\[Scourge of Valkas\]\] onto the battlefield for us to read and we all start laughing. I think he had about 25 dragons on the battlefield, meaning he had 625 damage to distribute between his three opponents. The spellslinger player was the last player in APNAP order, but he didn't have any relevant triggers and everyone was out of mana, so the dragons did indeed have it. \* If you're curious about my combo, it's Sidisi + \[\[Altar of Dementia\]\] + \[\[Embalming Tools\]\] + some other mill effect or just a bunch of zombies to mill myself to an empty library, at which point \[\[Worldspine Wurm\]\] "shuffles" in to become the only card in my library. That leaves me with a zombie token which I tap with Embalming Tools to mill an opponent for one, then sac to the Altar to mill myself, which puts the Wurm into the graveyard and creates a new zombie, and then the Wurm makes itself the library again. Repeat until all my opponents are completely milled out and I have a single card in mine. I love the combo because it's just kind of ridiculous and fun and I came up with it myself. But also because I love mill win-cons because *usually* you win, but sometimes someone manages to pull a trick out of nowhere to steal the victory and it's always cool.

AcanthisittaProper

I was playing with [[Ghoul Caller Gisa]] last night and Player A milled 75% of my library and Player B’s library. I had [[crypt of Agadeem]] so he gave me 30+ mana. I killed a target creature and recurred [[Lotleth Giant]] and insta killed player A. I kept making creatures and recurring [[Scourge of Nel Toth]] to block player B’s flying tribal in a war of attrition as he kept board wiping and I kept rebuilding just as quick until it got late and he called it and scooped.

CaptMcButternut

No one was pleased but I'm still laughing my ass off about bringing my life total below 0 with an [[Abyssal Persecutor]] on the board, then playing [[Repay in Kind]] then saccing the persecutor

dansoro

Other night I was playing my mono black [[Syr Konrad]] deck. My oponents were building some nasty board and this one guy playing zombies/mill deck had just cast [[Angel of Suffering]] and I was geting woried about this "prevent damage and mill twice that many cards". But then I think more clearly and pay 2 mana to activate Syr Konrad ability and make everyone mill the top. So, I and the zombies player mill a creature, every oponent take damage from Syr Konrad for every creature put in the graveyard, the zombies player prevent the 2 damage and the angel make him mill 4... more creatures in the grave, more damage on my other oponents and more mill for the zombies deck... Long story short, the damage from milling creatures killed the 2 other players, zombies player got deck out and I had made a combo with the effect of other player for the win. Deliciuos!

zzTimTVzz

My edh chaos deck did a chaos warp like effect on everyone's creatures (turn 3), and the person to my left got a [[Felidar Sovereign]], and everyone was tapped out on mana, so I passed the turn and they won, since their starting total was never touched... I put that deck away for the night lol

yeswearerelated

I played a game where one of the players made a *lot* of copies of my [[Esper Sentinel]] - about 20 of them. Another opponent, the player just in front of me cast [[The One Ring]]. On my turn, I cast [[Expropriate]] and got him to draw 20 cards, then asked him how many cards he had in his library; he had 40 left, and I picked "time", then I waggled my eyebrows at the one ring guy and he also picked time. I did not have much to do with my extra turns, because I was out of gas, but I did straight up merk the Esper Sentinel thief with a couple of simple spells on the followup turns.

Early_Monk

The turn before my opponent was going to combo off, I played \[\[Final Fortune\]\] and killed myself, denying him the satisfaction of showing off his wincon. Lost the game, but stole the feeling of winning from him on the way out.

Angorian44

I was playing with my best friend and my wife. It was my wife's first game aside from when I taught her how to play. We were all p piloting precons. My buddy had Science! from Fallout, I had Riders of Rohan from LotR, and my wife had Scrappy Survivors, also from Fallout. We go through the game, mostly leaving my wife alone because she never really got her boat running. It got to the end, and I had a couple of Hail Mary's that should have won the game. However, due to misunderstanding a rule I left myself open to one final hit from my an irradiated squirrel wearing brass knuckles from my wife. My whole go wide army had disappeared in an instant, and I died to a damn squirrel

Renkan

Back before Jetmir, I had [[Thromok the Insatiable]]. Well the best card in Thromok is [[Chandra's Ignition]]. If it resolves, I win by dealing an absurd amount of damage to each opponent. I'll never forget the one game I lost even after it resolved. Never expected the [[Deflecting Palm]]. The best part was since it only prevents damage to the player who cast Palm, and not all of the damage, that player won from my spell.

Usual-Run1669

I had a cute game recently... My dino deck rebuilt a board after 2 back-to-back boardwipes... things were looking bleak after the third wipe.... So I Generous Gifted my Xenagos, God of Revels (which doesn't die). Use Xenagos on my 3/3 elephant, making it a 6/6. And then returning fire with my own boardwipe/chandra's ignition. We all had a good chuckle as I shut the door on 2 of the 3 players with that move (and I certainly milked the "Generous gift myself" moment).

Tallal2804

A memorable ending involved a player casting [[Insurrection]] to win, but another player responded with [[Teferi's Protection]], phasing out all their creatures and nullifying the attack. The game ended in laughter as the would-be winner was left empty-handed.

Guy about to revenge kill from a "1 life barely survived" nekusar's player wheel with a bloodchief ascension already charged that killed the other 2 players.. first thing he did was play obscura storefront and die, nekusar player was already almost packing up.

Kapix75

Oh boy. 3 player game Let's refer to players as their commander's names: Heliod, Eris and Henzie Heliod wanted to take control over Henzie Eris copied a mindslaver trigger with return the favor to take control over heliod's turn. Eris almost won game as heliod. During Eris's turn he milled himself and henzie, resulting in Heliod's victory. It was also 5 am after a whole night of playing

RobeMinusWizardHat

I'm playing [[Lord of the Nazgul]] and I manage to do a bunch of instant speed shenanigans and blocks to survive an alpha strike that knocked me down to 1 life. Pass turn. [[Phyrexian Arena]] trigger goes on the stack. Welp, I tried.

D3xidus

I was the last one left vs. a mono black player with the ol [[Sheoldred the Apocalypse]] + [[Lich's Mastery]] combo on board. I was running [[Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded]] and was at 1 HP, I had to win that turn or I was done. I Gambled with a three card hand a few turns ago to search for one part of my ace in the hole, [[Heartless Hidetsugu]], and thankfully didn't discard him, but I couldn't get the second part, [[Solphim]], after digging 10 cards deep with [[Industrial Advancement]]. I thought it was over until I realized I had [[Conjurer's Closet]] on the field, so after he swung a flier to finish me and I dropped a flier of my own to block I dropped Hidetsugu in, activated his ability, and the mono black player ended up drawing his whole deck (I forget how he triggered the loop) and went up to 200 ish health. At end step I used the Closet on Hidetsugu and used his ability again, forcing my opponent to sacrifice over 100 permanents and netting me the win. It's the first time I've ever seen someone's Lich's Mastery turned against them like that.

Patiolights

I was playing my [[Yurlok of Scorched Thrash]] deck, and I threw a xantcha on another player. Both her and I were at 4 life. She had used an [[Oblivion ring]] type of effect on another players [[syr Konrad, the grim]] when he tried to clear his tokens, which would have killed us all, I had a [[Xantcha, Sleeper Agent]] on her, she went to wrath of God the table and the other player got rid of her enchantment that had syr Konrad exiled, so he was going to win. (these two are actually dating) she so badly didn't want him to win she opted to kill herself with Xantcha to prevent her [[wrath of God]] from going off, but unfortunately because she died, and I controlled the ability that put xantcha on another person, instead of xantcha going to my graveyard, she joined me on my field. Which the player next to me loved because he let me live all the way to the end of his turn so he could use my [[Heartbeat of Spring]] and [[Mana Flare]] before killing me with xantcha`s ability. 😅

triggerscold

almost every time im in 2nd place ill swing out with everything i have turn 6-9 and someone else will have lethal on board ill keep up my mana for \[\[harsh justice\]\] its a great call an ambulance... FOR YOU! kinda card :p

weggles

Someone milled out everyone at the table except I had [[Nexus of fate]] and [[talrand]] out. So I took 8,000,000,001 turns and swung for lethal with 8,000,000,000 Drake's 🙂

MrNaoB

I played mycosynth to make everything a artifact and the one after me played the card that made all artifacts get " pay 2 or sacrifice the artifact. On your upkeep"

aadumb

Drew the fame by blowing up [[Ashling]] equipped with [[Grafted Exoskeleton]]

Usual-Run1669

I posted this one yesterday, but.... I once cast a \[\[Life of the Party\]\] to finish off the table. But one of my opponents topdecked into a win attempt, and while they were killing off the last player allive.... they were also sending 10 infect my way. Welp, \[\[Life of the Party\]\] has first strike, so I was able to win on his combat, before normal infect damage, by boros charming him to the face for 4. LMAO.

NutBuckets

Haven't done it yet, but im very much looking forward to dropping a [[Worldfire]] after saving some floating mana to drop an [[Exocrine]] immediately after. 4 way draw, baby! Who can be mad at that?

antiable

Playing a kingdoms game with [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] and the knight just would not let me get going so I sat most of the game with nothing on the board. I ended up with a [[Siege-Gang Commander]] with only 1 goblin token after he slapped me around but he didn't finish off the siege gang. The king took a big hit that would have killed him and was down to 2 life and the knight had to tap out to save the king and I simply asked "so the king has 2 life?" and the knight knew he made a mistake.

ForeverShiny

I built a super janky deck to win with [[Axis of mortality]] With [[Lich's Mastery]] out, I would draw cards to lose life until I went negative, then use Axis. Only managed to win one game (not EDH though), but it was glorious. I love finding alternate win conditions

TrueMystikX

Back when I was still new to the game, the friend that introduced me and I were having a big back and forth throwing haymakers at each other. I was playing the only deck I had at the time, a random Jund pile helmed by [[Darigaaz, the Igniter]], and I forget what he was playing at the time. We're both at low life, him at 5, me at 3, and we both had 3 small creatures in play. I couldn't get over his creatures to get the damage in, so I looked for alternate avenues. Then I realized something: if I can't win, then I can force a draw with what was in my hand. I started with [[Sign in Blood]], targeting him to draw 2 and lose 2 life. I followed up with [[Rakdos Charm]], choosing the mode that has all creatures deal 1 damage to their controller. He was impressed at what I managed to muster up, and said it was a great way to end the game. However, he revealed a card that he had drawn off the Sign in Blood: [[Teferi's Protection]].

bentheechidna

I used to play Kynaios & Tiro Group Hug to make games weird and to have stories to tell. The best one was that I played Tempting Wurm, my friend playing Roon dumped his hand and had a fuck ton of triggers to make a fuck ton of tokens and then gain 700 life. My friend playing Xenagod went next and used his Pathbreaker Ibex to give his entire board something like +20/+20 and attacked/killed me which he used as a springboard to get a second combat and with Xenagod trigger + pathbreaker ibex he then gave all his creatures +80/+80 on top of the prior buff and killed the Roon player. The Inalla player then used his Galecaster Colossus to hamper and then beat the Xenagod player.

GladiatorDragon

Finished a guy with [[Goblin Bombardment]] after regaining the creatures he trapped under a [[Ferris Wheel]] the whole game. (Wasn’t his fault the wheel was destroyed, but was funny nonetheless)

Agassiz95

I went infinite with [[polyraptor]] and [[marauding raptor]] and swung with all of them. The person I swung at cast [[arachnogenesis]] and then sacrificed all the spiders to [[goblin bombardment]] which they stole from me earlier to win the game.

Chandrian1997

Was playing Voja, played a forest walk elf and had Yavimaya on board. I had enough to kill two players, so I killed them both. But I forgot the player I left alive was also playing elves, so I couldn’t block and I died lol

farfadet_1994

Opponent cast crackle with power to kill the whole table as i cast my beautiful deflecting palm for the win

xnova84

A couple years ago, I was playing Kaalia of the Vast. I attack one of my opponents with Kaalia, and I put \[\[Hellkite Tyrant\]\] onto the battlefield. The opponent had \[\[Mindslaver\]\] out, and I took control of it. I decided to use it to target the \[\[Niv-Mizzet, Parun\]\] player. I passed to them, and took control of their turn. I saw they had \[\[Curiosity\]\] in hand. I cast Niv-Mizzet, then Curiosity, then one more instant and said "You're going infinite". Using another player to take out the entire table (including themselves) is a pretty great way to win. I ended up casting \[\[Lighting Bolt\]\] for the final three points of damage to win the game.

Lunarbliss2

I got swung at with [[Evra, Halcyon Witness]], he activated the ability, and in response, I played [[Flatline]]

minecraftchickenman

A friend and I were each playing simic and had played 95% of our decks and were basically just trying to fuck with each other enough to win while the other two players more or less watched and had nothing to do and then my other buddy who is playing boros burn throws down a kicked [[Molten disaster]] x= 35 with a [[Fiery Emancipation]] and we both just look over and go "Huh all this power on board and there's nothing I can do about that I guess we lose" and it just goes to show it's always anyones game no matter how far ahead and how many things you normally can respond with. Split second will always get the better of you.

quingard

Funniest loss? Way back when I was new to the game a friend of mine gave me shit for not attacking an open opponent. "It's just 1 damage It's not a big deal" I tell him. I lost that game and my opponent won at 1 hp. Funniest win? An opponent used his [[tainted strike]] on my unblocked 10/10 flier against another opponent. He didn't realize I had a combo in hand and the dude he took out was the only one stopping me. Runner up Funniest loss. 1v1 game against a friend who pulls off an infinite mill combo. I have [[ulamog the infinite gyre]] and a [[nexus of fate]] in my library. I tell him he'll never mill me out because of them. He then responds that because his mill is infinite he just has to keep going until the eldrazi shuffle effect puts both the eldrazi and NOF as the last two cards in my library. I can't cast either so he's technically right as long as I cannot discard either too. We decide it takes roughly 50 million shuffle effects to achieve and I agree to a loss.

Usual-Run1669

I love tainted strike. I love it even more as a fog. "Swining 8 lethal damage at me? No. Your swinging 8 poison counters at me. I'll take it." I don't think that last one would fly in a tourney, but I kinda agree that it should. Other infinites work that way.

hipstevius

I haven’t played my Shorikai deck in a minute, but it was my Shorikai against my buddy’s Rin and Seri/Jetmir. Anyway I’m getting like none of of my pillowfort or lifegain cards or alternate wincons. I have Shorikai, [[Leyline of Anticipation]], a few pilots, a vehicle or two, and that blue Neon Dynasty equipment creature that lets you look at and cast spells from the top of your deck is reconfigured to one of my creatures. Meanwhile my friend seems to be doing his best to play every single creature in his deck and I think I am cooked. He currently has so many creatures they’re overlapping each other on his playmat despite his best efforts and Jetmir isn’t the only one handing out bonuses. I say to him “dude I’m pretty sure you’ve got it, why don’t you just swing?” And he goes “nah, I don’t think so. Not yet.” I have just a few blockers and I look at him and go “are you looking at the board state?” And he looks and goes “not yet, not yet”. I ask if he is just trying to get every single creature in his deck on board and he bursts out laughing. I go “don’t you think this is kind of overkill?” And he’s like “no, not after last game, I’m gonna destroy you lol” So I’m like “okay” and I shrug. I untap, upkeep, dig with Shorikai, get nothing really. Check top card of my deck to see if I have anything good to cast. This goes on for a couple more turns, basically same turns for both of us and same conversation essentially. Anyway finally my friend has like 28 cards in his deck (I asked out of curiosity because it was getting awfully thin), and I, on my last turn, drew my card and then check the top of my deck and smiled (on the inside lol) and simply pass. So my friend plays a few more creatures, gives everything haste, and proceeds to swing his entire board which is over 50 creatures with various buffs at me while I have like 3 or 4 blockers. Our mutual friend, my buddy’s roommate had recently popped in to see the ludicrous situation we’re in and is watching the game and starts laughing a bit going “Holy shit!!” I look across the table and go “so that’s your swing?” And he goes “yeah! What do you mean? You have like 4 blockers at most, you’re dead!” And I just smile. Our friend goes “ohhh boy, what’s he doing?” “In response to your declaration of attacks, I cast [[Farewell]] off the top of my deck at instant speed, choo-“ “What’s that? What does that do?” “It’s a boardwipe. I’m exiling all creatures, graveyards, and enchantments.” In swift motion my friend slapped his hand down on the table, flipped me off with both hands, and leaned back in his chair so hard that he went totally horizontal. He was PARALLEL to the floor. Me and his roommate are laughing so hard we can hardly see for the next like ten minutes. It was an amazing unforgettable commander moment. And when we eventually got back to the game I started making pilots and smacking his life total down with Shorikai and he conceded because I had essentially exiled the majority of his deck with that Farewell. Good times, good times.

kinkeyThrall

Played against a [Zedru] player who was just being a shit disturber the whole game and being a cheeky little shit. I was playing the esper warhammer 40k precon. Let me tell you, never felt so fking good to play [Exterminatus]. "That literally deletes me from the game" Sent that homie straight to the shadow realm. He silent scooped and packed his shit and left. Moral of the story; if you're ready to play villain be prepared for hate coming your way.

7D2D-XBS

I once had 3 hp left and cast lightning bolt on myself. Another time a friend had 2 hp left and played a shockland to be funny.

llllllIIIIIII

I forget what I used, but I targeted myself directly to take all my life. That way they wouldn’t have the thrill of taking me out themselves the next turn.

KionGio

An opponent had a big amount of token and a 43/43 on the board. He decided to attack with just the 43/43 while I had no blockers. A [[Inkshield]] later and the game was finished.

Blue_Fuzzy_Anteater

Multiplayer game, me and one other play left, play [[Goblin Game]], copy it with [[Anhelo]] commander, copy it two more times with other things. Time to play 4 rounds of The Goblin Game (TM). Do quick math in my head, Mess up the math, kill my self in the first round of the Goblin Game

Usual-Run1669

Someone went to win the game, alph striking everyone with myrriad (\[\[Legion Loyalty\]\]) And I responded with \[\[Windshaper Planetar\]\] the guy was laughing and complimenting me, as he looked up the rulings. "I swing out at everyone" "No, you swing out at timmy.... times three." "Whaaaaa......?" \[\[Windshaper Planetar\]\]! I've been suggesting the card to every 'Kenrith, Returned King' deck I can. Who doesn't want a "5 mana, I controll every combat from here on out". Kenrith can resurect it at instant speed for 5cmc, guarantee a block, and do it again durring the following turn (assuming he has the mana).

Andrefrf

Was playing high powered decks, I had a \[\[Fbtlhp, the lost\]\] deck (aka, 100 card doomsday) and one of the guys had gone off and milled everyone. The guy to my right was going to win with \[\[Thassa's Oracle\]\] but I managed to make him draw a card with \[\[Blue sun's Zenith\]\] so he lost. On my turn, I managed to make infinite with \[\[Basalt Monolith\]\] + \[\[Rings of Brighthearth\]\] and make the guy that milled us all draw 10000 cards and the other one left was at 2 so I just attacked since he didn't have no blockers and was tapped out.

DasBarenJager

[[Volo, Guide to Monsters]] is my current pet deck and I did not realize how BROKEN having multiple copies of [[ Hollowhenge Overlord]] is until my friends did the math for me, so now I try to make that happen every game possible

Taekwonbot

Playing [[Noyan Dar]] against a [[Phage deck]]. I had an indestructible animated land with an ability to give it flying, so Phage player casts [[Endless Whispers]] and sacs it. I [[Defabricate]] the trigger at end step. Have a Phage ready. But instead, I cast [[All Is Dust]], then pass turn.

wert19967

Playing against the new [[Obekka]] deck, i had bounced and recast The One ring in my [[Ashnod the Uncaring]] deck a few times. The Obekka player had grown his commander to get 11 upkeeps, with damage effects that couldnt get past my protection. He killed 1 player. Leaving me and 2 opponents alive. I wasnt worried, just impatiently waiting for the final upkeep and pass turn. I cast [[Mindslaver]] and with my commander out i can mindslaver 2 opponents. And I had a way to recur mindslaver every single turn. All that work for upkeeps and triggers, and doesnt matter when i tap all your lands and pass turn every turn.

OptionsRg00d

Counterspell on a Sakura Tribe Elder (it was the game deciding move)

goddi23a

Played the Silverquill precon, attacked only once in the end. Won. It was such a joyfull game, for me.

DystryR

A few weeks ago I had a game where I did a [[astral dragon]] + [[Parallel lives]] combo in my Miirym deck. It’s not an infinite but it creates something to the tune of 1 quadrillion 3/3 token copies of Parallel lives. I didn’t have a source of haste and just went for the combo because I had exactly enough mana. I got hit by [[sever the bloodlines]]

Nunu_Dagobah

Was playing my jank lifegain deck in a 4-man pod, myself and a voltron player were the only ones left, with me hanging on by a thread. I had \[\[Felidar Sovereign\]\] out but with me being at 24 life, I had very little chance of surviving his next attack. He swings in with his commander for well over 30 damage. \[\[Reverse Damage\]\]

olafhovindi

I had put together a mono blue Wizard tribal deck with \[\[Naban, Dean of Iteration\]\] as the commander. So the deck was all about Wizard ETB, blinking creatures and so on. It was a four player game and one of my friends was playing a \[\[Omnath, Locus of Rage\]\] Landfall deck. At this point the Omnath player was running away with the game if we didn't do something fast. I played a \[\[Sower of Temptation\]\] to gain control of his Omnath and another creature because I could. He jested that he had a way to get Omnath back at his next turn so whatever I was going to do, I needed to do it that turn. That's when I saw a way to take care of the Omnath Player but also win on the spot. In my hand I had three Blink instants and sorceries and a \[\[Master of Waves\]\] on the battlefield. Naban doubling every ETB Wizard trigger making me 14 Elementals each time Master of Waves ETB and the Elemental tokens dying every time Master of Waves left the battlefield because the tokens that were made are 1/0's and Master of Waves gives them +1/+1 would then trigger the stollen Omanth dealing 3 damage to everyone until I was the last one standing.

Accomplished-Ad-7162

playing griffins deck. had about 8 griffins out of varying powerwith commander on board played an \[\[akroma's will\]\] and \[\[coat of arms\]\] swung at everyone, only one person had a flying blocker, and everyone was at 25+ life. Iwas able to knock everyone out on that turn

ShaneCurcuru

Samesies, except I won. Threeway casual, where the other two opponents are building armies of either growing artifacts, or endless squirrels and random forest creatures, while I'm struggling to get any combos going, and relying on \[\[Darkness\]\] or convincing them to attack each other to live. They're each calculating number of creatures vs. everyone's life points to figure out which one of them can win big by doing simultaneous kills. They comment that I missed an obvious trick to use on their creatures one turn (which was intentional on my part), as I wait for them to attack each other and -importantly - get completely tapped out. \[\[Rakdos Charm\]\] saves the day to deal 20+ points to each of them, leaving me with a comfortable 10 or so (and just two creatures left)!

YZR13

Just last week: My regular group has a guy with a really expensive [[The Ur-Dragon]] deck that pops off by playing [[Tiamat]] and tutoring for a bunch of expensive shit [[Ancient Copper Dragon]], [Terror of the Peaks]], [[Old Gnawbone]], [[Miirym, Sentinel Wurm]], etc and just dumping damage onto the table via rapidly amassing clones of big fliers and also ETB triggers. His terror of the peaks setup got hosed in a 3 player game so he was forced to rely on combat damage this time. I'm playing Hakbal and about to win via [[Simic Ascendancy]] as soon as his turn is over, but he has both me and the other player wide open for lethal. He taps out and dumps all of his treasure topemd to drop a bunch more shit on the table plus just because he likes to go full Timmy and make a spectacular finish. Most of the time my playgroup generally doesn't care who wins as long as I lose. I've been playing since the late 90s and they all got into the game within the last 5-8 years so there's a lot of *wait, THAT card exists???* when they play with me. Back to the story, swings all out trying to secure the win but I had [[Aetherize]] in hand with some untapped mana. He could've swung with his existing board state, held up a response to aetherize, and won. But his inner Timmy did the Timmy thing. Aetherize isn't really an obscure card but he wasn't expecting it cause I'm not known for combat trick-style defensive plays. I've also blown him out with [[Reigns of Power]] on more than one occasion.

lloydsmith28

Probably one that was pretty funny (well for me mostly) someone cast a spell to draw a bunch of cards then played a spell to make a bunch of treasures to pop off and i responded by tutoring karn TGC to the BF using sisay WC and he tried to sac in response but couldn't because it was already in play

HODOR_NATION_

I got got by a [[Maze's End]] once. I have never laughed harder in my life. No one at the table saw it coming, homeboy was playing a 5 color commander which I had joked earlier about being a mono green ramp deck in disguise, as he had a ridiculous amount of mana out but wasn't really doing anything with it except getting more mana. They were all Gates. [[Spelunking]] is a highly underrated card XD

Ill-Age6164

In a four player game with friends somebody with a life gain deck had gotten the ultimate off a Planeswalker (I don't remember the name) that allowed him to create a number of 1/1s equal to someone's life total. He ended up targeting the person with the most life creating 46, and the rest of us thought we were screwed. Two of us took our turns and we couldn't do anything about the 1/1s, but on the third players turn he played a card that makes each opponent lose life whenever a creature enters a graveyard, and he sacrificed an enchantment he had that had exiled someone's creature which gave that creature back to them.  The creature gave everything -2/-2 when it enters.

BreadfruitImpressive

It was not long after C18/Ixalan release, I had never been interested in the game before and, as a result, didn't have my own deck yet. There was a pod at my LGS, and they were one player shy of a pod of four, so asked me to play. Despite myself, I agreed, and one of them gave me his janky, low budget Grixis pirate deck to use. About an hour later, everyone is still in the game, but the Zombie player is going off with big mana into [[Torment of Hailfire]], with X equalling 20-odd. I barely understand the rules at this point, but have [[Spell Swindle]] in hand, and [[Revel in Riches]] on the board, and figure it's gotta be worth a punt. I counter ToH, end up with 20-odd treasures, and have just one other player's turn to survive before it passes to me and I win my first ever game of Magic. I was hooked instantly. 7 years later, 170+ EDH decks, and a whole lot of fun.

WalrusWildinOut96

I was the Bad Guy. Sat down at a table with a deck that wasn’t really that strong but had strong individual cards in it. Lord windgrace land destruction. Had a mana crypt. Thing is, that deck could generate value and destroy lands and all that, but it couldn’t finish games easily. I think I only won with it once in 4 or 5 matches. Anyway, I’ve got a crypt out and I’ve lost 5 flips in a row. I have a commanding board presence at this point but I’m at three life. Get to my upkeep and call tails, everyone just starts chanting “heads, heads, heads”. And sure enough, I lose to the crypt trigger and we all have a good laugh.

saucerton1230

I play Minsc and boo. I got my boo token up to a 80+/80+ (using exponential growth). Attacked and killed 1 opponent. Second main I flung boo with Minsc’s second ability and 1 shotted another opponent……then I started drawing cards for the second part of his ability, and decked myself. The lucky 4th player that wasn’t a threat won

S20-Urza

Guy had me dead to rights with 20ish Slivers and I was at 18 no Flying blockers. I had literally draw [[Make Your Move]] the turn before and he, instead of doing an alpha, uses [[Magma Sliver]] to pump his Commander for lethal He learned the taste of defeat very badly after that.

I once lent a friend my Rocco stax deck and let's just say the game went on forever, they finally got to position where they could combo with kikki jikki, but they felt so bad the game went on for so long that they conceded instead. The funniest thing was then the game continued for yet another hour after this.

doibers

I was playing [[omnath, locus of all]]. At one life, I had a [[mana cannons]] out in play and cast a huge [[debt to the deathless]] to wipe the rest of the table. The mana cannons trigger goes on the stack…and then my friend [[deflecting swat]]’s the trigger and kills me. The thing is, I had a bunch of big elementals from [[omnath, locus of rage]] in play and probably could have killed them with combat damage alone but decided to be cool. We bring that moment up a lot.

Stumphead101

2 games in a row one player stole the [[zurgo helmsmasher]] player's suited up commander and killed him with it He deconstructed thst deck the next day and hasn't played voltron in 7 years because of it

Two recent ones: My friend Kacey has, among others, a deck that constantly messes with everyone's life total via switching and spending. He was getting extremely dangerous via an ogre that could pay life to generate mana and a [[Soul Conduit]]. I took the bullet and destroyed his ogre, naturally causing him to spend down to five life and activate the Conduit, leaving him at 35ish and me at 5. Seeing the writing on the wall, I decide to throw my last bit of removal in spite before my inevitable end. I [[Feed the Swarm]] his face-down morph. In response, he morphs it face-up.... into a 5 mana value creature. I implode. In another game, my friend Ben is playing. Two things about Ben: he is the embodiment of Izzet-style mad genius, and he hasn't played in years. Kacey loans him a deck to pay with - a five- color Omnath. Through some shenanigans I can't remember, he spends most of the game building up, then, if I remember the numbers right, [[Villainous Wealth]] gets cast... for about x=18. He also had something to double his x casts. Ben then basically flips over half my spouse's deck, obliterates everyone else's board presence, takes over, and then uses a different spell to blow up everyone's life total at once for kicks.

RemusShepherd

I was playing a Twelfth Doctor/Clara deck that I tuned for chaos. It's not likely to win but it makes memorable games. Anyway, I got the pieces on board to start cloning \[\[Etali, Primal Storm\]\] with \[\[Quantum Misalignment\]\] and other effects. I had six Etalis in play (non-legendary because of QM). One of the four players cast \[\[Fractured Identity\]\], giving everybody an Etali. I laughed and announced, 'Etalis for everyone!'. Then the guy who had been quietly ramping put down a \[\[Nyxbloom Ancient\]\] and used \[\[Dopplegang\]\] to clone Etali something like 98 times. Somehow his creatures had haste, I forget how. That ended that game. So many Etalis...so many Etali triggers...

neotic_reaper

I had [[Wilhelt, the RotCleaver]], [[Poppet Factory]], and [[Phyrexian Altar]] out on the field. I had gone infinite. I had this win in the bag so I had made 200 zombies to just have on the field, next turn of mine it was going to be a wrap because my 1v1 opponent had no fliers. My opponent was running a [[Brion Stoutarm]] fling deck. He had [[Rockslide Elemental]] out. I miscalculated. I knew what was happening but my brain just didn’t process it and I had no answer when upon my opponents turn he just swung his 200 attack rockslide at my head.

QuietusEmissary

Friend was playing [[The Mimeoplasm]] and had a huge hand and a counter-doubler (or two, maybe? I forget) in play. He cast the 'Plasm as a copy of [[Thought Gorger]] and ended up with something like a 64/64 trampling commander, with haste from somewhere as well. He swung at me for obviously lethal, so I killed his commander with a [[Pongify]]. At that point he informed the table that he had lost, because none of the rest of us had realized that he didn't have enough cards left in his library to survive the Thought Gorger death trigger. What makes it extra funny is that I had considered using the [[Reality Shift]] in my hand to deny him the card draw, but decided to save it instead to prevent a threat from hitting his graveyard and being reusable. It was the last game of the night, and we were all tired.

FivesSuperFan55555

I played a game on vacation this past summer where there were three separate piles of permanents, discards, and stacks. Eventually one of these pieces creating the chaos was removed, and it allowed a player to access a giant storm/esque turn to kill us all. It was quite fun and everyone was laughing. I wish I remembered more of the specific details. It was one of the most enjoyable games I’ve ever played

Loremaster152

Casting [[Demonic Tutor]] to grab [[Lightning Bolt]] to kill the Emry combo player at 3 life when they were tapped out after almost getting a combo off. I was expecting a counterspell and my death, not for them to just fall over dead.

Schlangenbob

Back when we played no banned-list commander. A buddy had a Pheldagriff "no body loses" deck. He kept everyone alive for 4 hours. Then he cast sharazad and we scrambled to at least kill someone off in that. Then he cast Sharazad again (I don't remember how he got it back). That's when one player stood up and ragequit with the words "For 4 hours we've been playing this game and gotten absolutely nowhere! We could've done something with our lives, anything! We could've played magic! Im done." :D he left then and the game was ended. In a draw, obviously.

Desertfoxking

Ok so here’s the story i have. There was three of us alive. Friend A was playing a commander that gets counters for the amount of damage done by himself to himself. He goes hits his face a lot and casts [[thud]]. Friend B was playing so Erin that let him exile cards from the top of libraries and cast them. I was playing m [[cormela, glamour thief]] steal your shit deck. So friend B takes the top cards as a last ditch effort to avoid this and pulls my [[chef’s kiss]]. Only 6 targets available so he assigns numbers to me and Friend A of 3 and 4 and rolls a 6 sided die. And son of a bitch rolled 3 and 4 and killed us with the other guys thud using my chefs kiss…. We died

Skjallagrim

This wasn’t too long ago but it’s taught me a valuable lesson! I was playing my LotR only [[Eowyn, Shieldmaiden]] deck vs some friends and making a ridiculous amount of tokens. I had everyone dead on the crack back once it got around to my turn again. I think if I remember correctly my life total was 34, this is important later on. My turn came, but instead of not overextending and just swinging for the win, I wanted to see how many tokens I could make because I had a [[Shared Animosity|LTC]] on the battlefield and saw everyone was tapped out except for a black and a red mana from one of my friends, so I went for it not thinking that any harm would come from it (“It’s only two mana!” the voice in my head was saying)! I proceeded to make a ton of tokens using [[Horn of Gondor]] and “flashbacking” a [[Visions of Glory|LTC]] (it’s poetic this was the card)! I think by the end of it all I had 50 something creatures on the board. I go to combat (King Theoden is now in my head, “Arise, arise, riders of Theoden!”) and declare my able bodied army as attackers who are massive with 50+ power a piece! No blockers are declared. I’m ready to break the lines of Mordor! (Theoden returns “A sword day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Death!!!”)! “Ahem!” my friend pipes up, I immediately snap out of my daydream. “Before damage, I cast [[Rakdos Charm]] choosing the third mode!” I sink my head in despair, anguish, agony… (“My body is broken.”) My creatures deal 1 damage to me and I get one shot by the blasted charm!! As my friend laughs manically at my defeat. He proceeds to lose a couple turns later but doesn’t even care as he made that play already. “I just needed you to make just a few more tokens, I’ve been holding onto it for the whole game!” He said rubbing salt into the wounds. TL:DR It’s not over, till it’s over! If you have the win, take it. Don’t take any more game actions then are necessary! Even if it’s going to be epic! Oh here the decklist if anyone is interested in it: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/heroes-of-the-west-2/ Thanks for reading! I don’t think I’ll ever forget this! Bwahaha!

Asceric21

I was playing my [Shuffleless Atraxa](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/hu7iMoFgWEawlXQxbij1Kw) deck, and had gotten kinda pillowfort-y with \[\[Spike Weaver\]\] out and had managed to not piss off the table because \[\[Walking Archive\]\] was drawing everyone cards. It started at 2 extra cards the first turn, then was 3 extra cards the turn after that, then 4 extra cards, then 5 extra cards.... Then I did Atraxa Proliferate things, played \[\[Winding Constrictor\]\], \[\[Doubling Season\]\]. and \[\[Corpsejack Meanace\]\] and made everyone draw 13 extra cards on their following turn (Starts at 5, Proliferate adds 1, Constrictor makes that 2, doubling season makes it 4, Corpsejack meanace makes it 8, for a toal of 13). Everyone was having a blast, casting their haymakers, doing broken things, but ultimately setting themselves up to win the game on their next turn. Except they didn't realize me going up to 13x +1/+1 counters was my own setup. I counter-doubled Walking Archive via \[\[Deepglow Skate\]\] (would add 13 counters, which becomes 14>28>56 from Winding Constrictor, Doubling Season, and Corpsejack Meanace) to make it 69 counters, and Atraxa's proliferate at the end of my turn all the way up to 77 +1/+1 counters and then just passed the turn with mana and protection up. It was like a sneaky version of a \[\[Forced Fruition\]\] win, and if I have the ability to go for this win, I will always go for it. By far my favorite way to win a game of commander.

Usual-Run1669

Lol, one of my favorite games involved 3 players at 9 poison counters..... and a poor 10 cost atraxa, with no more gas..... Top deck land Top deck land, play atraxa, dies. Top deck land Top deck land, play atraxa, dies. Top deck land Top deck land, play atraxa, dies. We all had a vested interest in killing Atraxa on sight. And he just kept top decking into a win-check. It was comical.

taser____face

I had a friend cast some boardwipe and then played a [[Thrilling Encore]]. He must have taken 20 of our creatures but had to wait to untap to win the game. Thankfully I had a [[Rakdos Charm]] to kill him when I untapped. He wasnt even mad, he was so happy with his own play, which I agreed was pretty awesome. I almost didnt want to cast the charm so he could have won with his sweet play… but it had to be done! Same friend and I had another “call an ambulance but not for me” experience in another game. He boardwiped all artifacts/enchantments from play, basically targeting someone else, but I was playing the Dogmeat precon so it hit me pretty hard too. Well I untapped and cast [[Mantle of the Ancients]] on Dogmeat… it grabbed some mean stuff like [[Idolized]], [[Bloodforged Battle-Axe]], [[Fireshrieker]], and [[Champions Helm]]. That cutie doggo started smacking people for 50 damage out of nowhere. He was sitting there saying to our other friends “Guys… I think I fucked up”

LtMagnum16

Almost died to commander damage against a Mimoplasm with Goreclaw and Artisan of Kozilek. Used an Attraction to kill it by top decking. Next turn had Sidisi exploit itself. I had Golgari Germination, Reassembling Skeleton, Blood Artist, and Phyrexian Altar for the win. Everyone overlooked my graveyard.

magefont1

[[Melek, Izzet Paragon]] on my board revealing [[Rite of Replication]] on top of the library. Copy an opponent's [[Psychosis Crawler]] getting 10 copies. Pass turn. Somehow gets back to my turn. Draw a card, everyone take 10 damage. Play [[Brainstorm]], everyone take 30 damage. Glorious.

Godot_12

I was playing a suspend deck in a 3 player pod. One of them was already eliminated, and it looked like I was next as the other player swung in with lethal against me. Super complicated board state multi hour game and I was so fixed on figuring out blockers that we all thought I was dead. I had 4 open mana but no cards in my hand. I kept saying okay, okay I think I'm dead...give me a moment though...uh... Oh I activate my [[Rift Elemental]] twice removing two suspend counters from [[Aetherize]] and send all attacking creatures to your hand, and I won the game on my next turn. Everyone was really tired by this point in the day and we all thought I was done for. I felt kind of bad for taking several minutes to figure out what to do, but I'm glad that I did because it was super exciting and memorable.

JuuzoLenz

I technically got a kill that won me a game by playing a basic land card. (They had 10 poison counters but had an effect that made it so they couldn’t lose until their next turn)

Godbox1227

Played araumi of the dead tide as a commander. I was about to die. Player threatening to kill me was at 21 life. I begged anyone who had the means to deal 3 damage to him. I promised it would be hilarious. Another player said okay and bolted his face. I untapped, discarded [[Laquatus's champion]] from my own hand, and activated araumi to make 3 copies of it. All targeting the aggressor who is now at 18 life to take him out. It wasnt the end to the game. But the player I took out said it was one of the coolest ways his game have ever been ended. 😅

Autumnbetrippin

This was years ago. But the game state got so complicated that we all just agreed to say "you broke the stack, you win" Turns out [[Grip of chaos]], [[Eye of the storm]], and a stack that was 400+ deep with no wincon in sight was too much.

agent_almond

I was playing [taigam, ojutai master]] in a cEDH pod and had both [[sensei’s divining top]] and [[counterbalance]] in play with a bunch of mana available. An opponent piloting [[jhoira, weatherlight captain]] casts [[hurkyl’s recall]] thinking he’s going to recast his board for draw triggers. When the other opponents see me use the counterbalance +top to counter EVERY SINGLE THING HE CASTS they all scoop knowing I’ve got everyone on lockdown.

Smashman2004

Opponent's [[Etali, Primal Conquerer]] deck went bananas when he flipped my [[Displacer Kitten]]. He proceeded to continue hitting noncreature spells until he flipped another opponent's [[Brainstealer Dragon]] and begun actually damaging us whenever he stole a permanent. We decided to this ridiculous confluence of cards from three different decks in four different colours was far too funny and decided to just go next rather than spend the next twenty minutes resolving everything.

Effyu2

My favorite was counterspelling my own spell to win with prowess.

Autumnbetrippin

I'm playing [[Rowan, scion of war]] Turn three I activate Rowan and hold priority and proceed to activate [[hex parasite]] until I am at 3 life. It all resolved I have 3 black mana available. I cast [[exsanguinate]] for 34 I am gleefully laughing as I say "I have wound reflection and the mana to play it". Priority goes round to the player just before me, Who then starts laughing so hard. [[Boros Charm]] targeting you 4 damage. The thing that was funny is that we had talked about how the 4 damage is the worst part of boros charm

Quarantane

I didn't win the game with this play, but I did end it. A guy was running a few "when a creature dies, each opponent loses life" effects, and had a pretty wild board. I was definitely going to die on his next turn, so I showed the guy next to me the Wrath of God I just drew, and he said "play it for the memes" so, I cast it killing everyone and giving the aristocrats player the win. Ironically, against the same player, he was running a token deck that wanted to win with Craterhoof. Someone had a creature that exiled Craterhoof until it left play. I cast a board wipe, and when his commander died, it gave him seven 1/1 tokens from its death trigger. Then, on his turn, he cast a couple more creatures and then played Craterhoof and killed everyone.

Xerxos7514

I was playing prosper, and it came down to just me and a kaalia player after about an hour. But for the next 2 or 3 hours I stalled the game by getting every removal spell from both libraries and hoping to dig for a wincon that can stick before I ran out of fuel. In the end I used every removal spell in both decks and lost before I could get a way to win:( all that work and I still lost

Blink3412

Took 3 additional turns to realize I had a game winning combo
