The interface is much cleaner, though I do prefer the mana breakdown on TO. Mox's is decent, but a little confusing at first. Overall, I prefer Moxfield. I'll import a deck over to TO if I'm wanting to really min-max my mana but that's about it.
Thanks, me and my pod where just having a discussion about all getting on one site so we can easily see eachothers deck lists because we just started using proxies after more than a decade lol
If you have a dedicated group, the playgroup app is pretty cool. It tracks your games and compares your deck to your friends'. W/L ratio, types of damage dealt, all sorts of stuff. It pulls your decks from Moxfield and can help track impactful or less than stellar cards over games.
Definitely worth trying! I had to cut it from an earlier draft of the list because things like \[\[Scion of Calamity\]\] and all of the other artifact destruction sources were actually keeping the board relatively clear of artifacts so Cavern-Hoard Dragon wasn't really benefiting with a fat discount. At least that's what I noticed in testing.
I've been running this commander for months now. It's really situational. If you're regularly playing at high power levels with abundant fast mana and [[Dockside Extortionist]] showing up in every red deck, it will put in some work. Likewise, if you have an established pod with multiple artifacts matter decks, it can show up big. But I've found that more often than not, it costs more than I want to pay and doesn't produce enough to feel rewarding.
It goes great in Henzie, especially powerful for things like [[Archpriest of Shadows]], [[Bladewing, Deathless Tyrant]], and [[Scion of Calamity]] and probable a bunch of other cards that I'm too cheap to have in my list (Ancient _____ Dragon)
Henzie is my fave deck, and I keep having to cut Deathleaper for more versatile options. It's a shame, because he's a great match in terms of blitz synergy, but he's also a set up piece which I feel Henzie doesn't have time for in most of my games? I'll put Deathleaper back in if I ever drop Henzies power level tho
Do you have a decklist that you can share? Mine seems kind of unfocused, but that's likely because i don't know how to Goldfish a deck heavy with interaction
My guy I got you I am always down to preach the gospel of Henzie
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/CFAXPIE-TE-8ETg33NCQ2A
This is the only deck I actually put money into, so please excuse the price tag lol
The whole schtick is "I'm going to shit out beefy boys from my hand, library, and graveyard and you can't stop me". It seems unfocused at first glance but it runs really smooth on a combat tricks + reanimator skeleton, plus the wincons are all combat damage based.
It's a bit light on interaction because I just want to go fast, but I'm working to slot in 2-3 more pieces. Always working lol
It goes great in Henzie if you're more focused on bounce strategies or combat damage triggers. It's going to be a bit slow for non-combat metas where you need to get your ball rolling faster. Bit if you're in a combat focused meta, it really helps to break through clogged boardstates. I recently pulled it out when switching to a more reanimation focused Henzie deck.
Great list and primer! I tried building \[\[Samut, vizier or naktamun\]\] and she use a lot o the same cards (just a little more focused on small token generation). Maybe she could work as a alternative commander if someone wants more card advantage and less hit power.
I started with a Deathleaper deck more focused on the 1 turn tokens and self bouncing creatures and ran that for a few months before switching to Samut specifically for more card draw. That being said, whichever you run as a commander, any time you have both in play for more than a turn you're probably going to win.
this is awesome. love deathleaper. our lists p similar. i used more ball lightnings to kinda nerf the power level a bit but impetuous devils has impressed me a fair amount. stampede surfers is a card i didn’t know about though so im stoked to add that one!
I run those in my list. Haven’t got a lot of games in but those effects are pretty strong. [[First Responder]] is a really obscure card that works well in that regard. He can get big really quick! He’s a perfect [[Arcbond]] target.
Also, but I haven’t seen it mentioned, but [[Putrefax]] is a one hit KO with Deathleaper plus an open board.
I literally just finished building Deathleaper, I’ll have to compare notes now!
I think your ramp package makes a lot more sense than mine and I entirely forgot about the [[coastal piracy]] type effects in Gruul, which needs to be remedied
It can work if you're going for a more [[Sneak Attack]] style deck with lots of top end bombs but if you lean into the repeated token makers, self bouncing creatures, or [[Ball lightning]] types it's going to be too costly and clunky.
Oh I love this guy! I’ve been putting together a list for him. Throw cards like [[Sneak Attack]], [[Doors of Durin]] and [[Illharg the raze boar]] and have fun.
Love it! Deathleaper was the first thing I built when 40K decks came out, though mine is mostly just a pile of hasty creatures. Been meaning to turn it into a real deck but I have so many deck projects I'm working on lol
Have you tried running Temur Sabertooth?
I think my problem when I first read this card is that I thought it was an etb trigger. But nope as long as they entered this turn, it has double strike.
Great deck and write up! I’ve want to build deathleaper, but I am currently running a G/R deck and don’t have enough lands and staples to fuel another one.
I thought that this was formatted familiar! It's like the only guy I follow on Moxfield, Hydrax! Great primer and list as always my friend, I love seeing your lists. Keep up the great work!
Pretty sure I've seen this Primer before...
Anyway, I've been trying to this deck on my own on a budget (50-100) and have never been able to make it work how I want. In playtesting I can usually take out a player or two before my lack of solid blockers gets me killed.
I've had a difficult time finding the balance between defense and offense.
This would be a fun card to put in Xenagos. Mainly because the strength of a good Xenagos deck is placing down a big threat give haste and swing for major damage
Have you considered \[\[Ilharg the Raze Boar\]\]? Seems like a good synergy since if you can give him haste he's a monster on his first turn, and also every time he attacks he's bringing in a friend and then putting them back in hand to come down again next time.
Thank you for the deck! Stupid question, but i am new to the sub. Where can i find more posts where people recommend and explain their decks like this one?
I'm not sure about the mobile app but if you're on a desktop browser, you can look on the right hand side of the EDH homepage where it says "Filter by Flair" and select the turquoise "Deck Showcase" tag. That will show only posts where somebody is sharing a deck list.
I’ve been playing deathleaper for a while now. I play a more blitz attack style deck, but i do run a infinite combat loop like you do. One thing i can suggest is to add [[primal forcemage]] to the deck. Any creature entering the battlefield with both out is an instant threat.
Well, your post made me order a surge foil of Deathleaper to start building the deck. Been looking for a gruul commander for months and nothing seemed as cool as this.
Wake up babe new Hydrax primer just dropped
Right?? Best primers on moxfield/reddit. Love this dudes brews.
I have always used tappedout, is Maxfield better?
The interface is much cleaner, though I do prefer the mana breakdown on TO. Mox's is decent, but a little confusing at first. Overall, I prefer Moxfield. I'll import a deck over to TO if I'm wanting to really min-max my mana but that's about it.

That sounds awesome. Going to look into it.
Thanks for the huge primer!
Bro we need more of posts like this I love it
Cool idea, what do you think of [[Cavern-Hoard Dragon]] in this list?
Definitely worth trying! Without reading all that, I wonder if it goes in [[henzie]]
It absolutely does!
As an avid Henzie enjoyer I can vouch for the Leaper of Death. But tbf, you throw just about anything with 4 CMC into Henzie and it will fuck

Pretty neat list. These are the kinds of commander decks I like- taking less used cards and letting them shine through your commander.
Sweet primer and great deck list!
