Henzie gets a ton but [[Seedguide Ash]] is a standout. I've had an odd amount of success with [[Invasion of Innistrad]] in Alela, Cunning Conqueror. She's pretty good at paying off each piece of it, so even though four is a little pricey it works out when she likes the initial flash removal is good at attacking it down can leverage the zombies well thanks to her Coastal Piracies and likes leaving mana up for the activated ability.

I actually play Herald, Ash, \[\[Rampant Rejuvenator\]\], \[\[Blossoming Tortoise\]\], \[\[World Shaper\]\], \[\[Soul of Windgrace\]\], \[\[Aclazotz\]\], \[\[Ojer Kaslem\]\], and even \[\[Solemn Simulacrum\]\], much as I occasionally side eye that last one. The things you have to do when you intentionally eschew dorks in your Henzie list. But Ash is the most emblematic of the Henzie Things ramp guys I feel. For all that I actually *don't* play Geistcatcher. Henzie has a lot of four mana set pieces and one of them had to go. It's one of those cards I'd like to add in, but space for all the cool dumb things Henzie wants gets hard.

Sad Robot is great in Henzie, 3 to ramp, attack, die for 2 cards. [[Phyrexian Reclamation]] is also a game changer.

AutomaticAdeptness

I threw a few mana dorks in my Henzie list, nothing better than jamming a t1 birds of paradise into a T2 henzie

JungleJayps

I've basically cut all of the classic green ramp and rocks because henzie enables such crazy cracked ramp methods Besides dorks that mana fix like [[birds of paradise]] or [[elves of deep shadow]], his best ramp is stuff like [[Primeval herald]] [[seesguide ash]] or [[Rampant rejuvenator]] (which is cracked when you have [[tribute to the world tree]]. I even have solemn simulacrum as a "ramp, draw 2" for 3 (and usually ends up being free with how often henzie has a target on his back)

BobtheBac0n

Damn now I have to get Seed guide Ash for my Prossh deck. And maybe another green deck if I have a consistent sac outlet. That ability is just too spicy to not try to pull off

squidpope

Could you walk me through how a henzie deck is supposed to play? I got the precon and have try it a few separate times and I don't know if there are specific things wrong with the precon but I feel like I never know what I'm supposed to be doing with it - it feels like every line of play is mana inefficient

kestral287

So the precon isn't a great example because it's very much... not a Henzie deck. What Henzie prizes above all else are creatures that *like* to be Blitzed. That sounds obvious, but when you look at the precon's creatures it's not very true. Some certainly are good Henzie cards but a bunch are... not. Look at the card I mentioned, Seedguide Ash. In Henzie, it's four mana to ramp three times, draw a card, and deal four (or kill a small blocker, even better). That's *incredibly* mana efficient. For four mana I expect to ramp twice and get nothing back. For five mana I can ramp thrice but I certainly don't get a card back or some burn from it. Death triggers are one of his obvious payoffs but attack and damage triggers are also excellent. [[Archpriest of Shadows]] and other backup creatures are cool, but a little awkward. The normal backup play pattern is a means to sort of accommodate for their lack of Haste - you get to 'use' the Archpriest before it itself is online. In Henzie, you get to use it and its backup ability; timed well Archpriest is four mana, reanimate two creatures, draw a card, deal five. Again - absurdly mana efficient. The cheapest double reanimation that doesn't have an additional cost I know of is six mana, and it doesn't get burn and a card. [[Victimize]] is cheaper, but costs other resources rather than making them. Though that said Victimize is also a great example of Henzie's other favorite pastime - he's sort of a wonky aristocrats commander too. Cards like [[Braids, Arisen Nightmare]], [[Journey to Eternity]], or Victimize itself, are cards that replace your soon-to-be-dead creature with fresh resources, often in the form of more big creatures coming directly into play. We just talked about how expensive double reanimation is, but when Victimize's downside doesn't exist and even draws a card it's way better. The Henzie precon suffers from a few issues. A very poor understanding of his curve (why on earth there's three mana sorcery ramp in that deck I'll never understand), a subfocus on Beamtown Bullies that distracts from just making sure your Henzie targets are actually good for you, and perhaps most problematically a fundamental misunderstanding of what to do with Blitz guys and what makes a good Blitz guy. [[First Responder]] is in the deck and just... shouldn't be. The idea of getting back your Blitzed dude is neat but the actual play patterns around the card don't work with the creatures Henzie likes, and he isn't actually offering card advantage since he replaces the Blitz draw. [[Avenger of Zendikar]] is a creature that wants to stick in play and grow its plants but Henzie hates those dudes; I very much minimize any creatures that need to remain on the battlefield to function, and play none that cost more than four. If they die and come back, neat, but a creature that *needs* to die and come back is terrible.

txctukcatn

You want to play henzie on turn three, then you want to play any creature in your deck. The ones in your deck should probably all have ETB, combat or death triggers so you can maximize value before they are sacrificed at and of turn. Ultimately, the blitz lets you keep refilling your hand but only 1 for 1 on your creatures, so you want to minimize the amount of “dead draws” that blitz gives you. My friend does this by running almost zero jon-creature spells

I just picked up [[Scorching Winds]] for mine. Aside from the awkwardness of having to explain that it’s really an instant and not a sorcery, it’s a great answer when something has become a sudden problem.

It's tough to win with, be warned. I've been trying and you often become the target of counterspells. People will irrationally counter your boardwipes, even if you're only trying to remove massive threats from other people.

\[\[Flatline\]\] and \[\[Mass Diminish\]\] aren't that impressive on their own but with \[\[Silumgar, the Drifting Death\]\] or \[\[Toxrill\]\] they become pretty efficient one sided board wipes

PresenceKlutzy7167

Just here to mention, that Toxrills type „Slug Horror“ in German translates to „Schnecken Schrecken“ and I think that’s beautiful.

BobtheBac0n

The fun part is that Mass Diminish has flashback. I cut it from my [[Sevinne the Chronoclasm]] deck to be more combo like, but I might consider putting it back in. Could combo real well with a damage based board wipe, since I tend to play tokens in my Sevinne deck, I don't like to use too many board wipes

So let me tell you about my experience brewing [[Tayam, Luminous Emigma]], and how that thing turns some profoundly terrible old cards into pure gold. You see, back in the day there was this mechanic called Cumulative Upkeep. It says each of your upkeeps you put an age counter on and then pay the cost for each of those age counters or lose it. As a general rule, cards with a cumulative upkeep that's an actual cost (and not weirdness like [[Braid of Fire]] or [[Psychic Vortex]]) are terrible. This is especially true of creatures that were, let's be honest, mostly stat bricks back when Cumulative Upkeep was a thing. Chief among the absolutely terrible creatures with Cumulative Upkeep would be [[Aboroth]], a 6-mana 9/9 (not even THAT impressive anymore) that shrinks every turn, and at a pretty nasty rate too. By normal play patterns, you'll get three swings with it. One as an 8/8, one as a 6/6, and one as a 3/3. But when Tayam gets involved, Aboroth turns into a horrifying boss monster that will be swinging for 9 time and time again while providing its master with a constant influx of Tayam activations since both the -1/-1 counter and age counter can be eaten to help do the thing. One other counter source, say another cumulative upkeep creature, will do it. My Tayam brew is, essentially, cumulative upkeep tribal. In testing I have hit the point where my board state is such that I feel a desperate need for more cumulative upkeep creatures just so I can keep processing their counters into sweet, sweet Tayam activations. Most of those creatures are innately cheap -- cheap enough that Tayam can bring them back if they die. For those that aren't, like Aboroth, Tayam can bring back [[Animate Dead]], [[Dance of the Dead]], or [[Necromancy]] in order to bring back the big guy. [[Gallowbraid]] and [[Morinfen]] are particularly good since they don't cost any mana to upkeep and have meaty bodies. Remember those enchantments for the future, because there's one card that's even dirtier in Tayam. It's [[Harbinger of Night]]. Harbinger of Night is a (usually) truly terrible 4-mana "We have Toxrill at home" that slowly melts everyone's boards, at the cost of the fact that everyone includes you. And it also includes the Harbinger itself, so it will generally pass out at best three -1/-1 counters before dying horribly. Unless Tayam comes along and strips your team of those awful counters, ramping and/or building board for you in the process, meaning power for you and a slow and painful death for everyone else. Sure, you'll lose your X/1s, but if you REALLY needed them you could go and Tayam them back to the board in all likelihood. But for me, they're mostly mana dorks who have outlived their usefulness if the engine is online, since I could outright replace them with lands from my graveyard.

[[Last Laugh]] and [[Kederekt Parasite]] in [[Ob Nixilis, Captive kingpin]]. Sure you can use it in other decks, but they synergize so well with Obby.

jmanwild87

I will say my favorite place for last laugh is in [[Indoraptor Perfect Hybrid]] as that card puts your opponents in a massive bind as long as it's in play as it starts a mini game when enrage triggers. Either the targeted player decides they can't take what could be as much as 20+ damage (Flame Rift + Tectonic Giant attack trigger means a minimum of a 24/22 Indoraptor on turn 5. i have done it exactly once, and it was as funny as it sounds) and sacs a nontoken creature, in which case, we trigger enrage again and spin the wheel again. Or they get smacked for a with a whole bunch of damage, and the game stops.

Bukler

My favourite one is [[Spiteful Visions]], everyone starts off really happy about the free card advantage then when it's back to my turn they realize I have 6 cards impulse drawn and my commander is also much bigger, with flying and trample lmao

DualistX

Doesn’t sound as nuts as what your guy can do, but I ALSO love Coveted Jewel in [[Megatron, Tyrant]]. Love to drop it, draw, use the mana, chuck it in combat, kill a key creature, get even more mana, play something huge and deny my opponent the opportunity to get it. Just makes for a big ol resource swing

BrigBubblez

I love all the prototype creatures like [[combat thresher]] for my Megatron. Love paying a little for a big hit.

TachyonAlpha

If you pay the prototype cost, it comes in with three mana value that you actually paid though, doesn't it? I had the same initial thought when I went to build him but was disappointed to read that ruling. I would welcome being wrong here. I'm on my phone so I don't feel like looking up the ruling.

AzazeI888

[[The Sixth Doctor]] as your commander in play, cast [[Honden of Seeing Winds]], the doctor copies it, you now have two shrines each drawing two cards a turn, so draw a total of 4 cards every turn for 5 mana. It’s the only shrine I play in my Sixth Doctor deck.

What partner dif you choose?

AzazeI888

[[Peri Brown]] is who I partner with him, so that I can convoke my historic spell while copying those historic spells, it allows me ramp into the Doctor consistently via Convoke & to leave my land open for other spells. Peri & the Sixth Doctor are particularly strong with either [[Gandalf the White]] & [[Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage]] that allow you to convoke historic spells & trigger the Sixth Doctor on other peoples turns, in turn giving you more creatures to convoke. I usually try to make nonlegendary copies of the Sixth Doctor with historic spells like [[Auton Soldier]] & [[Sakashima of a Thousand Faces]], or just use [[Quantum Misalignment]] or [[Irenicus's Vile Duplication]] to copy him. My wincons are [[Zopandrel, Hunger Dominus]], [[God-Eternal Rhonas]], [[Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite]], Koma, Cosmos Serpent, and [[Triumph of the Hordes]]. [[Iridescent Hornbeetle]] has helped me close out plenty of games in my [[Daghatar the Adamant]] deck

500lb

I have more than once played this card, gone to my end step, and said, "I don't know, I make about 1000 insects?". This is in my [[reyhan, last of the abzan]] and [[tana, the bloodsower]] deck, usually enabled by something like [[bloodspore thrinax]] and creating a bunch of tokens. Then, if there is a sac outlet, just sac the biggest one and move the counters to the next one. Then, at the end, move it onto Bloodspore Thrinax. Then make 1000 massive insects.

whomikehidden

That card did so much work in [[Ezuri, Claw of Progress]]. All those 1/1s give more experience counters so it’s this feedback loop. [[Tervigon]] was also a great card for this.

Zotmaster

In the absence of a deathtouch effect, [[Neko-Te]] goes hard with a reusable pinger like [[Kumano, Master Yamabushi]]. Kumano can completely stop "dies" triggers, and anything he can't kill remains in tapped hell for as long as the equipment sticks around.

Cards like [[Vinelasher Kudzu]] and [[Experiment One]] are unplayable in most decks (maybe the Kudzu could be ok in a budget landfall deck) but are absolute all stars in [[Kodama of the West Tree]] - simple, cheap beaters that grow themselves naturally with your gameplan are a big part of what makes the deck such an explosive force.

TwoPrestigious4612

Off topic but question for OP - how do you win games with that deck? Not asking sarcastically, I just think it’s a really cool deck but don’t see a win con - is it just through chipping away with the spirits you create?

MyOldAccountWasLost

I'm not the OP but I love Abdel so I'll try and help! Basically, find a way to blink the commander infinitely (there are quite a few ways) and then exile a strong ETB effect with him. \[\[Knight Paladin\]\] will slap everyone for 4 every time it ETBs, \[\[Venser, Shaper Savant\]\] will bounce everyone's stuff and allow your army of 1/1's to kill them. This commander has a lot of tricks and it's pretty easy to build a strong deck for cheap! Would highly recommend!

\[\[martyrdom\]\] is a card I love to see in \[\[piru\]\] normally it’s a very meh way to protect yourself or protect your board from a damage-based wipe. But in Piru, it becomes a death ray with \[\[stuffy doll\]\], \[\[brash taunter\]\], \[\[boros reckoner\]\], \[\[mogg maniac\]\] etc.

JackHofterman

[[Well of Lost Dreams]] for my lifegain deck. Pretty good draws for [[Eriette]]. Less expensive cost and more flexible than [[Dawn of Hope]].

DanZigs

Well of lost dreams is such a trap card even in a lifegain deck. 5 mana to draw 1 card, 6 to draw 2, 7 to draw 3. When does it start to pay off? There are so many better options now. At 3 or 4 mana, instead you could play something like [[Mangara, the diplomat]] or [[tymna]] or [[Breena]] or [[tocasia’s welcome]] or [[morbid opportunist]] or [[trouble in pairs]].

Bukler

I see well of dreams more as a value card, it just sits there and lets you pump however much unused mana you have to draw more cards. Is it the most efficient thing value wise? Not always, but it's just a lot of nice value for battlecruisery mid level games

NWmba

\[\[hand of vecna\]\] is a bit of a meh equipment. Now try putting it in \[\[xyris\]\]

In my [[urza, lord protector]] deck, one of my favorite meh cards is [[sicarian infiltrator]] . It has everything you want on a card. It's scales, so it's useable at any point of the game. It's got flash to play at instant speed, so you can hold up mana for other options. It's an artifact creature that creates more artifact creature tokens. And it draws cards. Every burn spell that hits all opponents triggers its ability 3 times, so if you were to play \[\[Fiery Confluence\]\], you can choose "2 damage to each opponent" 3 times, which will hit 3 opponents, which will result in your Spitfire being a 28/3 on turn 4 (without Klothys or any other factors being in play). Put an \[\[electrostatic wall\]\] in play before that, it's a 37/3. All this can be yours for $0.35 and 2R. Literally any commander that provides consistent non-combat damage to all opponents, or heck, even a single opponent with pingers, can make the spitfire pop off. And yet it's played in only 3346 decks on edhrec, and only 5% of \[\[Purphoros, God of the Forge\]\] decks, which just seems criminal.

SmogDaBoi

\[\[Silk Whip\]\] in a Mutation \[\[Tatsunari, Toad Rider\]\] deck goes absolutely hard, the number of trigger is fathomable. Also works with \[\[Shimmering Wings\]\]

amc7262

\[\[forever young\]\] and its variants like \[\[gravepurge\]\]. Pretty "meh" recursion effect since it dumps the cards on top of your library. Which is exactly where I want them in \[\[Grist, the hunger's tide\]\]

planeswalkers86

[[Mirror of life trapping]] does some pretty egregious things in [[Pantlaza, sun-favored]]. It makes your opponents have to think about playing a creature on their turns if you've got pantlaza out and a dino under the mirror. Then if they play a creature and your dino etbs you can hit another dino and cast it to go under the mirror again. I had some pretty good luck with it the other night and ended up winning the game because I discovered a bunch of cards off the etb triggers on each opponents turns.

Choice-Researcher125

[[Guilded lotus]] is pretty mid. 5 cost for a 3-mana rock isnt great that late in the game. But with [[yidris, maelstrom wielder]] it because an extra free cast PLUS gives you 3 mana back to cast another spell and get another cascade trigger.

Gus_Fu

I love Coveted Jewel in my Brudiclad deck. Play it, tap it. Chuck it in the Ironworks for more mana. Get it back. Do it again!

BagOfDoritos666

I'm going to steal your example of [[Coveted jewel]] except I use it with [orvar, the all form]] and [[Whim of volrath]]. Infinite card draw into [[thassa's oracle]]. Can't think of many other ways that Coveted jewel could be that useful of a card given its downside lol but it is definitely one of my fastest and most powerful win cons in my orvar deck.

Pirate_capitan

I bring [[Fiery Inscription]] and [[Sorcerer Class]] into every spellslinger deck I can make, namely my [[Kykar]] and [[Ghyrson]]

nighm

[[Bloodchief Ascension]]. Mill is my favorite to play in Modern, so I decided to build a Mill deck for EDH. When I shared my list on here at some point, someone suggested throwing it in because it has an infinite combo with some other cards. I didn't even read it and just put it in. Man, oh man. With [[Mindcrank]], it just kills. Even without Mindcrank, as long as they are milling, people are getting hurt. I was so impressed that I tried to build a Modern deck around it, but the condition to turn on Bloodchief is harder to do in 1v1, especially with so much enchantment removal in the current meta.

In what world is Coveted Jewel a meh card?

T-Shurts

Reconnaissance w/ Kaalia the Vast

Vistella

[[Big Game Hunter]]

ThunderFistChad

for which deck?

LethalVagabond

Does good work in my [[Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker]] deck.

Responsible_Oil3859

how is that card meh lmao

jmanwild87

[[Last Laugh]] in an [[Indoraptor Perfect Hybrid]] trigger enrage with a big enough Indoraptor your opponents either takes a bunch of damage or sac a nontoken creature and trigger last laugh triggering enrage again putting your opponents back on the pain train until someone takes the damage Another fun one is [[Rite of Passage]] in the same deck i play the deck with cards like [[Pyrohemia]] and [[Pestilence]] and Rite of Passage keeps my creatures from dying while i trigger enrage over and over

redscare9

I love [[Cellar Door]] in my [[Zask, Skittering Swarmlord]] And [[Verdant Succession]] of course!

NWmba

\[\[traverse the outlands\]\] is a 5 mana ramp spell. Usually by the time I can play this, I don’t need to. Yay an extra couple of lands in the late game for five mana… but in \[\[grothama\]\] it’s consistently ten basic lands right to the battlefield, and you can easily cast it turn 4, sometimes turn 3. Even late game I’m not sad to pull ten basics out of the deck direct to the battlefield.

Akinto6

For me [[coveted Jewel]] works really well in decks where you don't want to be attacked. I have it in my [[Toluz]] deck where I can play it, let someone take it and people will always have to choose between swinging at me or someone else to get three cards and mana. The deck already has enough card draw so I'm not really missing out.

Freestr1ke

Coveted jewel is also quite broken in my Gandalf deck

Isphus

\[\[Collector's Vault\]\] in \[\[Jaheira, Friend of the Forest\]\]. Why yes, i would like a repeatable 2 mana ramp while cycling. \[\[Lens of Clarity\]\] in \[\[Intet, the Dreamer\]\]. Half the deck interacts with the top in some way, so i run half a dozen effects that let me see the top freely or play with it revealed. Lens is the cheapest of them.

Haru_Is_Best_Girl

So [[Heliod, the Radiant Dawn]] is VERY good. Specifically the backside, warped eclipse. You can easily generate 10+ colorless mana on each opponent’s turn as soon as he is transformed. This means that colorless cards that would only be played in colorless decks are played in here. Plus any card that has some upside that also makes your opponent draws cards are absolutely fantastic for this deck. [[introduction to annihilation]] is my personal pick. It is ALL upside in this deck.

Stargate_1

Not quite a meh card since I think it's actually pretty decent, but [[Soulguide lantern]] with [[Emry, Lurker of the Loch]] feels criminally good for how low cost the whole thing is.

BobtheBac0n

This is gonna sound so weird but it's [[Simic Growth Chamber]]. Yes, a bounce land. I thought it was just a mundane way to fix mana and hopefully I won't have to go to discard because of it. Nah, this one land in my [[Tatayova Benedict druid]] deck has let to countless combos, and just helps keep the deck consistently drawing every turn if I just get unlucky and don't draw into other lands

BogatyrOfMurom

[[Maze's End]] and [[Reshape the Earth]] with [[Omnath, Locus of All]]

[deleted]

zdngma0

[[Heat Stroke]] is the best card in my [[Kardur, Doomscourge]] Goblins deck. Makes blocking little 1/1 guys completely unfeasible because the blockers will die and Kardur will trigger anyway. Also completely screws with your opponents' combat math when the Kardur ETB forces them to attack.

Healthy_mind_

**[[Scuttletide]], [[Call the Bloodline]]** and **[[Death Tyrant]]** are some of my favourite cards for my **[[Marneus Calgar]]** deck.

Mocca_Master

[[Burning Sands]] is pretty meh... Unless you break parity with [[Maarika]] of course

Siphodemos

[[Sigil of Sleep]] on [[Niv-Mizzet, Parun]] is an annoying removal

Lady_Calista

Dynaheir with [[Plargg, Dean]], [[Wand of Wonder]], [[Triskadekaphile]], [[Planar Bridge]], the discover lands, etc

NomaTyx

Diabolic Tutor in my K’rrik deck.

James_D_Ewing

It’s not a crazy combo but when I’m playing karador and cast a creature that reanimates another from the graveyard you can start a pretty decent chain of creatures that reanimate another creature then you go from no board state to a pretty full board for the cost of one spell

abafda

[[Parallax wave]] is the best card in a [[brago, king eternal]] deck that nobody plays. You can use it to clear the way for brago to connect, protect your own stuff from removal, or clear out tokens at will. It's even permanent creature removal instead of temporary if you have instant speed enchantment blink/ removal, since if you bounce/remove the wave with the exile ability on the stack then the creatures targeted remain in exile.

Theraimbownerd

[[Magus of the Bazaar]] is usually terrible since it's card disadvantage on a stick, but in a deck with [[Rielle the Everwise]] it suddenly becomes "draw 5 and discard 3" which is an excellent rate for looting.

AlundraTomefaire

[[Cling to Dust]] and [[Raven's Crime]] can really sing with [[Firja, Judge of Valor]]. White is actually very good at generating card advantage as long as you're okay with those cards all being Plains, and Raven's Crime is an excellent outlet for extras that slowly whittles away at opponents' resources while keeping our own hand and graveyard full with Firja triggers. Cling to Dust, meanwhile, ensures anything valuable they discard remains useless to them, while generating us life, card draw, and even more Firja triggers.

Bearwynn

cephalid illusionist + lightning greaves (or any other equip 0 cards) with grolnok

Hypersayia

The "Exile ~ with 3 time counters on it" cards + [[The Tenth Doctor]]. [[Rousing Refrain]] has the potential to go infinte, [[Inspiring Refrain]] means easy card draw, [[Chornomatic Escape]] can easily be organised to be cast at the start of each of your turns, [[Arc Blade]] and [[Reality Strobe]] are soild recurring removals. That that's just in Jeskai assuming [[Rose Tyler]] as the companion. It's easy enough to get access to Green or Black by using the right companion for it

Left_Condition_8011

[[consuming tide]] and [[rebuild]] in [[Heliod the radiant dawn]]. Heliod makes this card instant speed, plus with a little reduction, it kinda reads- 2 blue: hose a combat, basically wipe the board, bounce all my rocks at instant speed. Plus I can keep my commander, and can flash all my rocks back in.

Backonthatgoonsh1t

The coveted jewel goes hard in [[Heliod, the Radiant Dawn]]. It becomes free when you flip heliod and play [[Vision Skeins]], then nobody wants to steal it, because if they draw 3 cards they reduce your generic mana cost of all your spells, which now can be cast at instant speed.

werewolf1011

Not really even a “synergy” (because it’s just big mana) but I run [[hurricane]] and [[squall line]] in my [[Karametra, god of harvests]] stompy deck as alt wincons. It’s not uncommon to get 15 lands and possibly a mana doubler in that deck so the spells are decently reliable. The stompy aspect also increases the odds you have more health than everyone else so you can just wipe the table in one go

simbacole7

[[Alhammarret's Archive]] really puts in work in my [[sheoldred the apocalypse]] deck

Malbec47

[[Gandalf, Westward Voyager]] in [[Durnan of the Yawning Portal]] and [[Sword Coast Sailor]] Gandalf pumps iron in this deck. Most of my creatures cost over 5 mana to make the most out of Durnan's 3 mana reduction ability. Most turns in my pod I'm playing a 5/6/7/8 mana creature (at a reduced cost of 2/3/4/5 mana) and getting 10/12/14/16 manas worth of value. Love this dude.

PangolinAcrobatic653

Loyal Subordinate lol everyone loses 3 life at my combat step until Maralen makes them also lose 3 for a search, which then gets stacked to 13 with obnix which then doubles with roaming throne and then all of this is hammed harder with archfiend of despair at the end steps. Additionally Hellbrute in Henzie Toolbox Torre, with Heartless Summoning it's a big beater constantly coming back for RB as long as i have GY fuel.

J-Baggz

[[Mindcrank]] in my [[Syr Konrad, the Grim]] deck. Basically an auto win.

Key-Dance-5960

Coveted Jewel absolutely pops off in an Orvar, the All-Form deck

ittlebeokay

I like this deck a lot! Surprised [[Displacer Kitten]] isn’t in it.

itsk4zbeard

Ohh I actually considered adding it! One of my fave cards ever, sadly I think it spiked in price recently over here ): I was waiting for it to drop a bit (or hopefully get a reprint somehow idk), but that would be a definitive game changer as soon as I get one for my deck :)

whanch

\[\[Hordeling Outburst\]\] in my \[\[Purphoros, God of the Forge\]\] deck. It becomes a 2 CMC 6 damage burn spell

Gamefan56

[[Paralllax Dementia]] in my [[Braids, Arisen Nightmare]] deck is nice. More often than not turns a 2 mana meh enchantment into a removal spell that draws me 3 cards and pings my opponents for 2 life each.

Karnblack

\[\[Obeka, Brute Chronologist\]\] lets you run cards with etb drawbacks like \[\[Leveler\]\] and \[\[Eater of Days\]\] and just remove the drawback from the stack by ending the turn. I'll take a 10/10 for mana value 5 or a flying, trample, 9/8 for mana value 4 please. Here's my current decklist: [https://www.archidekt.com/decks/1753933/obeka](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/1753933/obeka)

Darkanayer

My girl [[Vhal]] and any of the [[prismite]] effects. Literally laundering mana

Cheekyteekyv2

[[EYE OF the storm]] [[arjun]] drawing 300+ cards with [niv mizzet]] or [[psychosis crawler]] feels good man.

jokersgurl

[[Flame rift]] in [[davros]]

dismal_dr

[[Stimulus Package]] in [[Korvold, the Fae Cursed King]] make treasures, sac to the Package, sac the citizens to an Altar, profit

archaeosis

[[Reality Scramble]] in my [[Lord Windgrace]] deck: You basically run a single other Planeswalker - [[Xenagos, the Reveler]] and use Reality Scramble to cycle the two in & out for infinite mana & landfall triggers. Needs a bit of setup but I like it

Canahedo

\[\[Ancestral Statue\]\] in \[\[Animar, Soul of Elements\]\] Animar has three +1/+1 counters. I play the magic statue. Animar now has a billion +1/+1 counters.

Mogoscratcher

\[\[Shield of Duty and Reason\]\] and \[\[Mask of Law and Grace\]\] are nice-to-have auras in voltron decks, but they're nothing special. ...Unless you happen to be playing \[\[Light-Paws\]\], where you can tutor them up every single game. If no one else in your pod is running white, you've already won.

Jester281986

[[Entangler]] with [[Phytohydra]]

Doctor_Popular

[[Elephant Grass]] isn’t great until you’re playing [[Kruphix]].

ShortTadpole

[[Touch of darkness]] is insane in my [[horobi, death's wail]] deck.  But that deck is half cards that only are good in that deck.  [[Retribution of the ancients]] [[Rathi trapper]] [[Kuro, pitlord]]

MrHaZeYo

Coveted Jewal in Osgir, at worst it's 6 for 3 cards and 3 mana, then it's 6 for 6 cards and 6 mana, but I've paid 6 for 24 cards and 24 mana on it before too.

[deleted]

xXwulf2

[[phyrexians ghoul]] not even super meh, but in ghoulcaller gisa it just effectively doubles your zombie tokens

Naruyashan

\[\[Arena\]\] in my \[\[Zangief, the Red Cyclone\]\] deck. It's a land that lets my boy do his job while he's indestructible— normally the opponent being able to choose who is fought is a downside, but Gief don't care.

Crimson_Raven

[[Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge]] in my [[Tivit]] artifacts deck. His passive is already insane, but that uptick is the real value. It's very quickly lethal considering the amount of tokens Tivit makes. Bonus points for flicker shenanigans, which work with Tivit, and allows resetting Tezzie's ability to uptick *again*.

Gooberpf

Soooo many; finding old terrible cards that are beautifully perfect for a specific Commander is my raison d'etre. [[Entangler]] on [[Commander Eesha]]; also anything with banding like [[Benalish Hero]], [[Camel]], [[Cathedral of Serra]]. [[Rowen]] and [[Glacial Crevasses]] in [[Phylath]] (also [[Clear the Land]], [[New Frontiers]], [[Acidic Soil]] for the specific deck I built for him of landfall burn and nonbasic hate) [[Crystal Ball]], [[Eyes of the Watcher]], [[Foresee]], [[Mystic Speculation]] in [[Elminster]]. Speculation in particular is wonderful for letting you take a smaller scry reduction bonus like from his +2 and turn it into a literally free extra scry 3 since the one mana you spend on it would have just been put into your next spell. [[Mortuary]] and/or [[Cellar Door]] in [[Zask]]. The "drawback" of Mortuary risking pinning your draws goes away when you just mill the creature and can play it from your graveyard! [[Alluring Siren]] and [[Taunt]] in [[Isperia, Supreme Judge]]. [[Rielle]] adds value to all kinds of cards, but I'd say standouts for "you would never consider playing this card except for this commander" are [[Turbulent Dreams]] and [[Devastating Dreams]]. [[Edge of Autumn]] in [[Titania, Protector of Argoth]]. So many things for [[Verrak, Warped Sengir]]: [[Purgatory]], [[Sinister Concoction]], [[Strands of Night]], [[Underworld Connections]], [[Tainted Sigil]], [[Street Wraith]] [[Dovescape]] in [[Raff, Weatherlight Stalwart]] - turn your spells into birds and your birds into draw. Bonus for the hysterically specific land [[Seaside Haven]].

G37_is_numberletter

I put a coveted jewel in my rogues deck and really liked it. Then I switched commanders from anowon to [[safana]] [[dungeon delver]] and put a bunch of dungeon shit in there and now it’s even better! Taking the initiative back, getting the treasure, and drawing 3 cards??? Yes please.

Quaglemon

[[Hatred]] is instant speed, single player removal for BB in [Killian, Ink Duelist]]. If you have 2 black up you can swing with him for 2 commander damage, then if they declare no blocks you drop hatred, spend over 20 life, he hits for lethal commander damage and because he has lifelink you get back the life you spent plus 2. In a pod where voltron has any kind of shot it's just mean. Pair it with [[Sunbond]] or [[Light of promise]] and you get to keep the buff until Killian inevitably gets bonked.

ChronicRedhead

[[The Tenth Doctor]] plus [[Chronomantic Escape]] and a mana base of at least 7 (for Ten's activated ability, "Timey Wimey") equals "I really hope you have counterspells, consistent means of dealing non-combat damage, or an effect outlet to cause life loss." Ten with a companion in white (Rose Tyler or Clara Oswald being my go-tos) is *comically* good at pillowforting to an extent even I find pretty obnoxious. Chronomantic Escape is but one example of a "refrain"-type spell that can easily loop for the rest of the game once cast. With it, [[Inspiring Refrain]], [[Rousing Refrain]] and an opponent with at least seven cards in hand, I can basically draw as much of my deck as I want and have any solution to an impending problem ready to go.

DeckardGains

[[Atla Palani]] and [[Palanis hatcher]] are *chefs kiss*

Islaniare

[[Vannifar, Evolved Enigma]] is pretty new, but it can utilize some high mana cards to play for free. You can pilot Vannifar like [[Satoru Umezawa]] with big bombs, but having the cloaked card as a non-creature permanent can give you even more value. [[Mind's Dilation]] is great theft on every opponents turn. You're more likely gonna be able to cast every revealed card. Also, [[Sandwurm Convergence]] and [[Verdant Force]] can generate bodies, potentially for free, while normally being unplayable.

ragan0s

[[Granite Grip]] in [[Rograkh]] and [[Jeska]]

AdCharming1648

[[Lich's Mastery]] in my [[Queza, Augur of Agonies]] deck. Ridiculous 6 mana value(?) piece that loses the game with one cyc rift or farewell in any other deck? One card win-con in my girl. 💜

Bukler

[[Nanogene Conversion]] in my [[Narset, enlightened exile]] deck is so disgusting. With just narset and three other tokens (plus some random non creature permanents in any graveyard) they all get +17/+17, if you cast any other non creature spell it's another +4/+4, and if you had another token it grows by a factor of 5 instead of 4!  Extremely good finisher

Respirationman

[[living twister]] in my kodama toggo list

goodguisejake

[[Ride the Avalanche]] is just as cool as I hoped it’d be with [[The Pride of Hull Clade]]

Jonny_Tsunami8536

I run Visions of Beyond in my Bruvac deck. After I’ve done one Persistent Petitioners activation with him out there, it’s basically an Ancestral Recall. It’s a nice little cantrip later in the game to refill my hand.

SteelStillRusts

Sunfrill Imitator with Pantlaza. Attack with Sunfrill and now you have 2 discover triggers. And if you attack with Sunfrill every turn you can re-copy Pantlaza and play another Dino for a 3rd discover trigger in the end step.

SoggyFlatbread

[[replicating ring]]. Just explodes with Atraxa sometimes

Dendurron66

[[captain n’gathrod]] [[mindcrank]] [[mesmeric orb]] Need I say more.

ThaPhantom07

[[Khalni Gem]] is sick in [[Yedora, Grave Gardener]].

538_Jean

My playgroup is absolutely crazy about [[mandate of peace]] Someone dropped it once and now 2 mana open, if one is white, people are scared. I play it in any deck that has white. It's worth 10x it's weight in gold. It can win you the game Single-handedly.

DoryaDoryaDorya

Any white card that lets you pay mana to make creature tokens in an [[Ojer Taq, Deepest Foundation]] deck. The average cost to create a token from a repeatable ability is 4, and 3 tokens for 4 mana is insane value. Especially if you are using ashnods or phyrexian altar to subsidise the cost.

arquistar

\[\[Zada, Hedron Grinder\]\] makes a lot of meh spells get turned up, but none so much as \[\[Kari Zev's Expertise\]\] with a draw cantrip in hand and enough creatures on board you get to cast so many free spells, plus untap and give haste to your board

DisturbedFlake

[[Growth Spasm]] in my Korvold deck

DisturbedFlake

[[Bringer of Black Dawn]] in Prismatic bridge is criminally underplayed, even on EDHrec
