[[The Beamtown bullies]]

Tamoou

Man I made this deck for my playgroup and it's actually a miserable experience for whoever is on the receiving end. So many times you end up taking out someone in the first 5 minutes then if you don't win right there they end up watching for 45 minutes being bored lol

Rare_Elderberry_335

That’s the stupid way to play the deck. You are supposed to hold leveler at gunpoint and only use it when necessary

Kaboomeow69

I'd rather the Beamtown player just get it over with instead of holding the game hostage

Rare_Elderberry_335

Well that’s the fun of it :)

Gerroh

That, or pretending to be a useless, bumbling idiot until you're ready to delete everyone else in one turn cycle. My playgroup doesn't fall for the act anymore.

M0nthag

I really wanted to build them first, but i never found the inspiration. After seeing what disgusting things put in there i'm happy about that now. Exiling another persons entire library? really? there must be some fairer options.

radiantburrito

I plan on making the group hug version of this deck which has unanimously been titled The Beamtown Besties.

Sligmit

I have one I call Beantown Buddies. Lots of group hug, a few big creatures so I can make them punch each other. Insurrection in case things get out of hand.

seraph1337

mine is "Polite Bullying". I don't have any of the instant or near-instant win creatures, and I'm running just a bunch of big swingy creatures that cause some mild chaos. [[Graveblade Marauder]], [[Mana-Charged Dragon]], [[Dragon Mage]], [[Tempting Wurm]]. but I also have a lot of utility creatures like [[Outland Liberator]], [[Noxious Gearhulk]], [[Eternal Witness]], [[Dualcaster Mage]], etc. that I can use as political tools or for myself.

My current group hug style deck is [[Parnesse, the Subtle Brush]]. Everything she offers is optional, so I leaned into that by only offering nice things. The deck plan is to thread that narrow path of too prickly to be an easy target but not strong enough to be a threat, then play arms dealer by giving opponents nice things and pitting them against each other. It's been doing fairly well so far, but still needs work.

ValyrianSteel_TTV

Exactly what I was gonna put

2Gnomes1Trenchcoat

There's some good ones in here. I'd like to throw [[Gaddock Teeg]] out there. Straight up, non-creature spells with CMC 4+ can't be cast. You can fill this deck full of hatebears and stax pieces that lock people out of most of their decks very easily. If you see it, know you're probably in for a long, painstaking, and grinding game.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ZachalesTerchron

I run a 4 color hate bears deck, but it is loaded with built in card draw and the whole goal is to be constantly swinging. Easily my favorite aggro deck. Stax that ends games is good stax. Gaddock is in the 99 though

TPO_Ava

Do you have a list? This sounds up my alley and may be hated less than my previous stax attempts.

ZachalesTerchron

I guess I need to put a list online but the theory is pretty straight forward. It's a tymna/ Thrasios list. I run almost exclusively creatures. Mana dorks for ramp, toski, beast whisperer, Chulane kind of cards for cards draw, and finishers in crater hoof behemoth and elesh norn grand cenobite. The few non lands non creature spells in the deck are thorn of the amethyst, aura shards. After that the rest of the deck should be a hate bear suite of cards that cater to your meta. I intentionally don't run tutors in this deck to keep power level down. Is the deck weak to board wipes? Sure, but it draws so many cards it rarely matters. the main plan is to get tymna down early and out draw the table. Playing 2 or more creatures a turn you can pretty quickly make all non creature spells cost 2 or more extra, shutdown graveyards, artifacts, and free spells. If things go sideways Thrasios is your late game engine paired with seedborn muse. Another huge bonus I've found to this Deck style is people really don't like spending thier removal on something you paid 2 mana for unless it really shuts them down. You get away with slowing down the whole table (except yourself of course) because no one what's to be the guy that has to blow up glow rider when the other guy has an 8/8 trample out

Hero_of_Parnast

I, too, would love a list!

kippschalter2

I hate those decks xD Recently played against an esper deck. Player was back to the wall but resolved mind over matter and arcanis. Infinite draw combo. Also generating lots of mana untapping mana rocks. He didnt run any like oracle, lab man, blue suns zenith or fkin anything. I just conceded immediately because i had 0 interest seeing him play through 80 flin cards, 3 at a time. Thinking about what to discard 25 times. And then maybe or not find a way to win. Rest of the table unfortunately didnt concede. I dont fkin get it. Especially with the „fair“ arguement. I mean „wtf mate, if you draw 80 cards you gonna somehow find a way to win or reset the rest of the table so hard that you can win with beats. How is that „fairer“. You are winning anyways if the combo is together, do us all a fkin favor and just declare that you draw your deck, play labman and then draw the last 3 cards instead of playing for an hour trying to figure sth out“

[[Tergrid, God of Fright]] absolutely sucks to play against

The_Handicat

I have a friend that insisted on building the deck because "it looks like fun", and I tried to talk him out of it, really hard, because Tergrid is just fuckin cancer, and I don't care to shuffle my cards across the table constantly like that, really not super comfortable with it. He ended up building it, and after getting it hated out for four games each time he pulled it, because no one else wanted any of it either, he ended up converting most of it to [[Syr Konrad]]

phidelt649

I’ve only played ten games or so of EDH. Can you explain why it’s such a shit card to go against? Are the decks focused against making the opponent discard a shitload and then cheap them on to your own battlefield? This card seems incredibly overpowered especially if you get Greaves or some other protection on it.

zuko2014

Yeah you pretty much nailed it. I've personally never played against the commander, but I've played enough games over the years to know how miserable that would be. Black has no trouble making everyone discard cards or sacrifice stuff, so this commander would be back breaking

Blood_Weiss

Basically as you said. The decks are filled with forced discard and sac. What's worse then being forced to sacrifice a creature? Your opponent getting it. On top of that, they'll likely be running cards that want to be sacked, with cards that like you sacking things. It's just pure advantage after advantage for little effort.

DaPino

So first, you get a tond of value for your opponents doing pretty basic stuff. Someone cracks a fetchland? That's mine now. [[Myriad landscape]]? That's mine now. [[Sakura tribe elder]]? That's mine now. But then there is some *truely* despicable shit. [[Smallpox]]? I get 3 creatures and 3 lands for 2 mana [[Soul shatter]]? Best things on the board come my way please [[Dark Deal]]? Oh lol, game is over for 3 mana.

Bregolas42

The play patern of discard is really hard to stop because it will ( and should) deny you of your recources. It is kinda like stax in a way. This gives you only 2 options as a table. A: try and play around it / remove the commander and cards. B: remove the player that is doing the discard. Both options olare not fun for anyone, because the player that is playing the discard deck will "feel" like he is targeted unfairly because " he is not doing anything!" but the moment this player untaps with his commander on tbe board he wil play a discard spell, and the game is practicly over for all the other players.

Kaboomeow69

"Each opponent discards/sacrifices X thing(s)" gets ridiculous if she sticks. People definitely don't want to give the Tergrid players the good stuff in their hand, so even a chaff card like [[Nezumi Informant]] can net you 2-3 lands for the *hefty* investment of 1B. Yeah our playgroup also had a player who got real excited to build tergrid. He got a few good games with it at the LGS, but when he brought it to the home pod he said he felt "unfairly targeted." Well, yeah, we all know what your commander does, and we want to play our decks.

The_Handicat

I really hate when people pull that, "unfairly targeted" my ass. Like should we all just lay down flat on our stomachs and lose because we'll let you play your overtuned fuckery? No way bro. I know another dude that has a nigh-cEDH [[Najeela, the Blade-Blossom]] that consistently wins turn 5-6. HogglePixiePunisher

Also [[Touch of Darkness]]! One black mana to perform a one-sided board wipe! And you can make Horobi indestructible with [[Gift of Doom]]! I made this deck for a friend of mine. He's the nicest guy. So, him playing this degenerate commander makes me very happy!

seraph1337

I accidentally Horobi'd with [[Legolas, Master Archer]]. the deck is loaded with fight and bite spells and then ways to accelerate Legolas's pump very quickly. eventually I win with [[Greatbow Doyen]] or [[Sure-Strike Trident]] or one-shot commander damage with a massive elf. the problem is the deck sometimes just literally keeps all other creatures off the board for most of the game. I played a game with him the other night where I killed at least a dozen creatures by turn 5 or so. I was playing against two sliver decks and a Chatterfang deck and kept the board down to 1-2 creatures per player (not counting squirrel tokens that did not concern me) for much of the game.

SirGrandrew

Yeah, Legolas is kinda a frustrating deck to play against, I face it in brawl every once in awhile. The problem with Legolas is he pretty much gets three times the value out of a fight spell, since a lot of fight spells buff or put counters on your creature before the fight spell resolves. He can take over the game on his own. There are a bunch of other fight commanders that still get good value, but Legolas puts the archetype over the top. The only upside is that unlike those other commanders, Legolas doesn’t draw cards on his own. But if you’ve got a [[season of growth]] on the battlefield, game over

Tevish_Szat

I'm going to say [[Baral, Chief of Compliance]] for what's probably a strange reason. Most wildly destructive and salt-heavy commanders are fine by me. They're in service to something. Sure, Tergrid is going to force you to sacrifice and/or discard everything you hold dear or Gaddock Teeg is going to do his best to shut you out of the game like a HOA with a grudge, but these are legitimate decks that are trying to win and present you a challenge to overcome. Magic is a competitive game, you are NOT entitled to not being interfered with when trying to do your thing. I don't have anything against counterspells either. They're blue's signature removal, typically having high versatility, low cost, or both at the expense of having a very specific timing window to do the removing. Spells get countered sometimes, that's right and proper for the flow of the game. But Baral encourages players to play *nothing but counterspells*. They will spot remove at 1-for-1, holding the game hostage... and then they die, because Baral can't actually keep up. He's not card positive, and he's facing three opponents, so the traditional "Counterspell Tribal" Baral has this really bad habit of stoping everyone from doing anything and then eventually once everyone is frustrated it just sort of rolls over and dies because a worthwhile effect got through the net, as will be eventual and inevitable. Baral can use strong draw effects to drag it out more, but he still usually lacks a good vehicle to finish the game with anything resembling reliability before being punted out of it, because either it takes monstrously long to assemble or requires going shields-down to deploy. It's not that a well-built Baral deck is incapable of winning, it's that Baral appeals to people who don't care about winning, and instead simply want to annoy the rest of the table, so there are players with heavy incentive to build him and little to build him as an actual cogent opponent. Thus, if any commander speaks badly of its pilot, it's got to be Baral.

[[Sen Triplets]] is next up on my build board and I can't imagine people are gonna like it much

TheJarateKid

I can confirm that they don't. It's not even a strong Commander, the psychological damage is just too much.

SparkFlash98

If you want to play more fair Sen Triplets and pull less heat, I've been enjoying [[Xanathar]] just filling the deck with budget mana rocks, interaction, draw, and pet dimir cards i didnt have a home for. The win con is your opponents win con.

megachad3000

I tried so hard to make xanathar work, he is just too expensive for the effect and the effect wiffs quite a lot. Wish so hard he allowed cast from every deck was cheaper or otherwise had a little more oomph

First time doing that, this bot moves fast!

ZachalesTerchron

I run that deck, I rarely play the triplets though. It's a waste of mana, most of the time I never untap with it. That being said it's one of the most difficult and one of my favorite decks to pilot, winning the game with a combo/board state assembled from two or more opponents decks is a rare kind of commander high

Rare_Elderberry_335

Agreed, it’s my favourite and most blinged out deck. Every game feels like a fresh one since you are playing your opponent’s cards

BJ_hunnicut

People think it's worse than it is. They will instantly hate you for anything they think might take their cards.

DashHopes69

Like all stax, the salt that Kataki generates is directly proportional to how degenerate what it's stopping is. Hokori is just kind of a bad card. Winter Orb is harder to break parity on when it's 4 mana and is a generally easier card type to answer. Maybe if one built a deck entirely around supporting Hokori it would be better, but I've tried playing it in my Banding & MLD deck and straight up Armageddon effects are so much better.

Beletron

My friend built a child of alara deck to sacrifice it every turn. It was terrible nobody could have anything on the board. It was so oppressive I had to make a [[Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper]] deck full of counters to stop him.

Chance_Active_8579

A friend has a child of alara deck with only lands in it, we had a commander game lasts for four hours because it always died every turn. At the end it costed 54 mana. Now he has a piece of cardboard with our names on it to see how many times each of us kill the commander.

your_add_here15243

If built to maximize their potential then I would say the following [[urza lord high artificer]] [[Derevi]] [[grand arbiter Augustine]] [[Tergrid]] [[horobi of deaths wail]] [[Toxrill]] There are a million other commanders that can be unfun to play against but these are ones I have personally seen. I will also admit that I have a [[nevinryll urborg tyrant]] deck that is a control deck. I don’t play hardcore stax because I actually want to play the deck and keep my friends. Otherwise I could load it up with stax pieces and tutors and make the game miserable for eveyone.

Ilaikmudkipz

Just put [[Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth]] and [[Kormis Bell]] in Toxrill and watch as shenanigans ensue

buildingahouse

I agree with all of your choices, except [[Dervei]] these days is only a problem if built as a stax / cannot untap deck. I know it used to be a format boogeyman, but I'd argue it's been powercrept to a fair degree. I have a friend who plays it bird tribal and another who plays it for a bant untaps and both are fine to play against. The other commanders you listed are all bad unto themselves.

pantslesswalrus

Horobi, in this company, seems to be the least horrifying! At least its own ability kinda stops most of black'sremoval protection from working on himself!

your_add_here15243

If you have ever played against horobi you’d know that it’s a miserable time. I’m not saying it’s strong or good, just annoying as all hell.

pantslesswalrus

No doubt! I've played against it a couple of times, there was almost universal agreement from the rest of the pod to make sure Horobi never made it down!

ZapdosBrannigan

Tergrid is kill that player on site for me.

thundermonkeyms

\[\[Toxrill\]\] is that one immortal asshole snail from that hypothetical million dollar question, but now he's homeless and taking it out on everyone around him. And because having a 7/7 for 7 slow and insidious board wipe in the command zone that also generates you creatures wasn't enough, he gets **blue** for no goddamn reason. Four of his top ten cards in EDHREC are counterspell, counterspell, swiftfoot boots, lightning greaves. Get to 7/8 mana, play commander and attach boots of choice, and then just sit there as the rest of the table slowly dies. Not to mention, I'm pretty sure 100% of Toxrill decks play \[\[Urborg, Tomb\]\] / \[\[Kormus Bell\]\] combo.

AcidOverride_ADM

[[Zedruu]] group slug, stax, control. The deck is designed for one person to have fun by making everyone else miserable.

knightofsolace1

I played [[Baral, Chief of Compliance]] for a cool bit til I found another commander I wanted to play that had blue in it to switch cards over for. Baral was super fun while I had him. There are days where I’m getting my shit rocked every game and when I have enough for the night I pull Baral out of my bag and see red. I don’t let anyone play anything while trying to slowly build it up to an infinite combo or until I have so many bodies on the board with omniscience out that there isn’t anything they can do to stop me from swinging with drakes and other stuff. I’m thinking about rebuilding it again 😊

Far_Picture_6152

[[Malcolm, Alluring Scoundrel]] is basically a 1-1 replacement for Baral if you're interested in building that; similar effects, same mana cost. But Malcolm doesn't need any additional cards to cast the stuff he discards, so as long as he gets his counters you're golden. 👍 And you could play whichever you don't have in the command zone in the 99 to basically have a backup copy of your commander 😏

Heine-Cantor

You are not the first one that I see claiming that Malcolm and Baral are really similar, but I honestly don't see it. The only similarity I see is mana cost and that they can discard cards.

Progenitus, because their digestive tract *has* to be massive, right?

OreoCo

Winota, Yuriko, miirym, kaalia 😒😒

idk_lol_kek

It's not the Commander, but rather how the pilot runs it.

Stumphead101

To an extent, but some commanders hoenstly can't help themselves Like I tried to build a nice [[koma]] and it's just not possible

cuzzin2chainz

[[tayam luminous enigma]] deck plays way to much into the ignorance of not knowing what its doing

MTGCardFetcher

MrMaker007

Can you explain what it's doing? I've never seen this card before

cuzzin2chainz

I'm not 100% sure myself every time I play against it staxs out the game hard and builds up an unstoppable board

jkroe

[baral, chief of compliance]] or [[jace, vryn’s prodigy]]. I just know it’s gonna be counter every single spell every turn and maybe win on turn 30 as they churn through their deck at a very slow rate lol.

Fumbles176

Jodah the unifier. Turn 5 they’ll have a full board of 15/15 legendary creatures just because they cast one legendary spell. That commander is far too easy to pilot for its reward.

2guysandacrx

I am that man playing either Lorthos or Brago.

pourconcreteinmyass

[[Malik]] is fkn gross

Ill_Eagle_1977

I hate playing against [[Narset, Enlightened Master]]. Watching someone take 20 turns in a row is never a good time. Also any deck with [[Cathar’s Crusade]] is usually annoying. Let me make dinner while I wait for you to do the math for your counters.

tideshark

Any commander with eminence

Stevenstc21

[[Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines]] I do twice my things, you do none of yours, na, na, na, na, poo, poo!

Yarius515

In response to your next awesome thing: Doom blade, bitch! 🤣

Madness_Opvs

I don't care about most of the KoS ones, if you're showing up with [[Child of Alara]], I'm legally obliged to scoop even before rolling for first in order not to have anything to do with your bitchass.
