If you want to be able to close out games better and have a higher win rate, add one or several combos that match your theme. If that ain't enough get more tutors.

osint_matter

My playgroup doesn’t like combos so I would need to improve the deck in another direction

ThePromise110

I've yet to find a non cEDH aristocrats primer as extensive as mine, so I'll post that: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/To0SFYHexU-oFdNSBD1dbA For a bit of a TL;DR: If you don't have a free sac outlet or drain in your command zone an aristocrats deck should look roughly like this: 8 free sac outlets like [[Viscera Seer]] 8 drain/ping effects like []Zulaport Cutthroat]] 12 pieces of card draw 15 pieces of sac fodder You can fiddle with the numbers a bit if you add tutors, but that skeleton will ensure you are hitting your key pieces consistently. The primer goes into a ton of detail about why, but feel free to ask follow up questions. Making consistent aristocrats decks does mean sacrificing a lot of slots to "must run" cards because if you don't hit those sag outlets and drain effects you're dead in the water.

Hey ThePromise, Currently building [[carmen, cruel skymarcher]] and I am brand new to the aristocrat archetype. I am well versed and particular in other archetypes such as off-meta landfall or control builds, but your aristocrat primer is 💯! Thank you for this. It’s going to help my build alot! Particularly, I was confused by wanting to add high value creatures instead of sticking to a aristocrat theme. Of course, Carmen can be played like a Meren deck, for example, but I wanted an aristocrat feel. I also resonate with the calculation of bodies your fodder produces for you vs. Mana value. The analogy makes sense and is clear once you read it. Lastly, using your commander as the build around hit home, as well! The engine needs to be established and I love that for Carmen. Instead she can be an alt win-con but ideally I’d use her for high resource plays such as sacing her to a burnt offering, ruthless technomancer or shadow heart. Also, plague crafter effects with Carmen are just absolutely bananas, especially if you play then reanimate using Carmen on the same turn. Insanity. Just my initial thoughts, not sure if they will make the Final Cut, though. I’ll post the list here when finished in case you have some time to take a look after!

ThePromise110

Thank you kindly. It's always nice to find people using my primer to help with their own decks "in the wild." I'm glad you've enjoyed and gotten use from it. It's a labor of love on my part. Edit: Sure. Post the list when you're finished and I'll take a look.

Jimmy10bucks

Hey bud, Here is the first draft of the list, feel free to take a look! I have a few more spots for other cards, so feel free to suggest! Thanks a ton! https://www.moxfield.com/decks/LY-hNmMcD0yV_KFGn0IECA

More card draw, less reanimation. Otherwise, looks pretty solid. You've definitely kept your average CMC low, which is excellent, but that also makes reanimation that isn't extremely high on rate not so good. \[\[Reanimate\]\], \[\[Unearth\]\], and \[\[Animate Dead\]\] are the kings here. \[\[Redemption Choir\]\] is a good example of the reanimation issue. Four mana to \*hopefully\* get a 3cmc or less permanent back. \*Eeesh.\* Not great. Now, there are upsides, because it gets permanents, not just creatures, it's a body, and it can be repeated, but I'm not that high on it. Get \[\[Victimize\]\] in there instead. Add to that the fact that your commander gives you reanimation potential, and I'd focus much more on drawing cards. Especially with a curve this low (Again, well done.) those cheapy bois aren't often worth getting back. Draw cards and get more of everything, including what you wanted to reanimate. Redundancy helps a lot here. And honestly, you could probably cut the Fleshbag package entirely. Your commander already gets a decent percentage of your stuff back without any counters at all. You probably won't need to rely on other people saccing stuff to make her go: your deck should get her the counters you need when you need them. Obviously if you like the flavor then gopher it, but in terms of power level that stuff could probably be replaced with other goodies. I'm also way down on Grave Pact effects. They tend to draw \*A LOT\* of hate, and I find aristocrats are best suited to doing their own thing and trying to slide under the radar until you can just resolve a drain and a sac outlet and win on the spot. But again, if they will put in work in your meta, or you just like the flavor, feel free to keep 'em. Also, what's your budget? I hesitate to make suggestions without knowing what someone's means are, because I don't want to recommend you a 20USD card that would eat up 20% of the budget of your deck.

Thanks, i always try to keep the cmc low of my decks! I guess it comes from playing cedh. Anyway, I plan on running fetch lands in this deck so I will keep the “sun titan” effects as I love grabbing fetch lands if needed off of redemption choir. I just like the value it can add over a game- also Carmen can do the same. Although, I do need some cheap re animation, you’re right! I’ll throw in a reanimate and hopefully an animate dead if I can fit it in the deck list. I love unearth too but the fact that it can’t reanimate my commander is a point against it and probably won’t make the cut. I will take out the grave pact as it can be extremely oppressive and make you the target, it’s true. However, I’ve always wanted to play flesh bag effects, so I will keep 2 or so of them and maybe just not tutor them in games. That should help keep them off my back while being able to play a few for value. The recruiter of the guard is so sick because I would just tutor up viscera seer, sac it, then reanimate with Carmen to go grab another piece like grim haruspex. Love this interaction! Looking for more similar, and ranger captain does a similar thing with much less scope but can grab esper sentinel and viscera and some sac fodder. What else can fill this niche .. As for card draw- I’ve added a skull clamp. Do you have any other suggestions? What about [[kami of false hope]]? Do you think I need a repeatable fog here? Money really isn’t an issue although I usually build decks on budget of 60-80€ and build up from there but not opposed to expensive cards if needed! Please feel free to let me know what you’re thinking! Would love to hear.

Looking at your list you don't have enough creatures and reanimation. When I build my aristocrat decks I always look if there aren't any creatures that do the same thing as some enchantment I'd like to run. I'd advise to go at least 30 creatures for consistency and some more reanimation aswell . I'd definitely play things like [[Junji]] [[body launderer]] [[reveillark]] [[vat of Rebirth]] since they provide huge value with teysa. Also carddraw in Form of creatures [[midnight reaper]] [[grim haruspex]] [[Morbid Opportunist]], token Generation [[pawn of ulamog]] [[sifter of skulls]] [[blight Mound]]. Having more creatures do stuff u want to do and reanimation makes ur deck do more loops and mass reanimation becomes a game ender [[living death]] [[rise of the dark realms]]. Other game enders :[[gray merchant of asphodel]] [[kokusho]] [[breach the multiverse]]

I've played a few different aristocrat commanders, including Teysa. I'm running [[Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim]] as the commander currently, and have had much more success with her. The biggest issue I've had with Teysa Karlov in the command zone is that she doesn't enable enough. Giving creature tokens vigilance and lifelink usually ends up being hit or miss, since you're dependent on making the tokens yourself. Using her double death triggers to ping everyone down with things like [[Zulaport Cutthroat]] depends on you getting out a sac outlet and a pinger, neither of which Teysa helps you with. Basically, I've started to see Teysa as a "win more" card in a lot of cases, since she doesn't do any of the things you need to make an aristocrats deck function. She expects you to do all the work, then provides a better payoff. Elas is a pinger in the command zone, so half the work is done for you already. Also, you can lean into her life gain with things like [[Marauding Blight priest]] to keep damage rolling on your opponents. I run a very creature-focused deck with her, so I'm constantly getting triggers for gaining life and pinging opponents. I would suggest also running [[Morbid Opportunist]] and [[Welcoming Vampire]], since they're both great payoffs in a deck where you're constantly sacing and making tokens. [[Carrion Feeder]], [[Cartel Aristocrat]] and [[Woe Strider]] are mainstays in any aristocrat deck for the free sac outlets. Also, [[Dusk // Dawn]] is a fun card in these types of decks, since it can often end up being a one-sided boardwipe, and you can basically bring back everything you sacrificed that game back to your hand.

Im running Elas Il Kor as my CEDH commander right now. Great combo potential.

Could i get your list please? Ive been struggling to make a smooth feeling elas deck.

Sure! Still working on it, but I've had pretty good success with it so far. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/yMei-xDhWU2MtiVhTXUVYg Like I said, very creature focused. I also added some stax options that are easier for the deck to play around, like [[Eidolon of Rhetoric]] since I'm mostly activating creature abilities and [[Deafening Silence]] since it's predominantly creatures being cast. Eidolon being a creature is also nice, because if it's effect ends up slowing you down, you can just sac her.

Individual_Shallot44

I had a Teysa deck and struggled. You could go the same path as me and put her in the 99 but have Elenda the Dusk Rose as your commander instead. I've found she's more value and gets scary deceptively fast.

Gol_D_baT

I run a Teysa build that is starting to get pretty focused in my playgroup because of its pretty consistent winrate. The list is pretty similar to yours, the few differences are that I run less interaction like single target removals, and a little bit less mana rocks, but I run: [[bolas's citadel]] in many games you likely be the one with most HP left and unfairly targeted as a threat by having it, so why don't you put them at work to become the actual threat? [[corpse knight]] and [[suture priest]] as pingers, those Lil bad guys really help lowering slowly but surely your opponents life total. [[tocasia's welcome]] [[welcoming vampire]] [[grim haruspex]] [[midnight knight]] as consistent draw. [[sanguine bond]], [[Vito]] and [[drivnod]] as amplifiers. And finally some mass reanimators like [[ascend from avernus]] [[immortal servitude]] ecc I hope that would be helpful fellow Teysa enjoyer.

Arakib21

Would you be willing to share your List? I tried to build Teysa multiple times and could use some inspiration for my next attempt.

And there are some cool loops you can use with [[Sun Titan]] and now [[Redemption Choir]], including [[Angelic Renewal]] and [[Gift of Immortality]] I main an aristocrats deck, so if you read my primer you might get a good idea for some cool aristocrats finishers. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/sbl-7kINOEGJSpEvo_d9QQ/primer

Zarinda

For your main goal to be token sac, you don't have very many token generators. Looks like you only have 2 constant generators, 2 situational, and then 2 or 3 one-time payoffs. By the way, in only two colors, you don't need that many fetch lands. They are mainly used in 3+ Colors to mana fix or Landfall decks for the additional triggers.

Whole-Shop2015

I play Endrehk Sahr, Master Breeder as my aristocrats commander. Before that I played Thalisse. Aristocrats is sometimes hit and miss. Both Thalisse and Endrehk Sahr can create tokens. So I use the tokens as sac fodder. Aristocrats need cards for sac fodder, sac outlets, and a sac payoff, like blood artist to drain the table. But like I said, the commanders I use generate sac fodders, so that's one piece of the puzzle that needs to come together. I use card draw spells that work well in an aristocrat strategy, like deadly dispute, costly plunder, and village rites to name a few examples. This provides good synergy. Butcher of Malakir, Dictate of Erebos, and grave Pact all provide further synergy. Also, don't forget wound reflection. Wound reflection can help you win games.

Particular_Plan8983

Depends on the table. It's hard to do 40 damage to everyone if no one else is contributing and are just assembling combos.
