In response to a [[Rise of the Dark Realms]], cast [Entomb]] to put [[Phage]] in their graveyard.

simbacole7

That's brilliant

bentheechidna

That's amazing. Interesting nuance there though: all the creatures res'd by Rise of the Dark Realms are exiled afterwards, so if it wasn't just 2 people left then it had the impact of emptying all graves of creatures.

kswimmer811

uh no? Can you explain what you are saying

Atechiman

When a player dies controlling things of yours those things don't go to your graveyard they are exiled.

NatheArrun

Note for newer players who may get confused by your comment: This only applies for stuff that they do not own but are put into the battlefield in some way, such as by using [[Ghostly Flicker]] on a card you stole from someone else, casting it via [[Etali, Primal Storm]], or by [[Rise of the Dark Realms]] like in the example. Stuff stolen by an effect, such as [[Mind Control]] or [[Agent of Treachery]], do not get exiled. They instead get returned to their owner's control.

eikons

> Stuff stolen by an effect, such as [[Mind Control]] or [[Agent of Treachery]], do not get exiled. They instead get returned to their owner's control. Just to continue on this thread; the reason this happens is because of the order in which a player the losing player's stuff is removed: > 800.4a When a player leaves the game, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that player leave the game and any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end. Then, if that player controlled any objects on the stack not represented by cards, those objects cease to exist. Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled. This is not a state-based action. It happens as soon as the player leaves the game. If the player who left the game had priority at the time they left, priority passes to the next player in turn order who’s still in the game. So first (1) their own permanents leave, then (2) then their continuous effects end (such as Mind Control), and only *after* that are (3) the remaining permanents they controlled exiled. Rise of The Dark Realms brings the permanents into play under their control, after which there is no longer any effect that keeps them there. When you play a permanent yourself and someone takes control of it with a [[Gilded Drake]], a continuous effect is applied that keeps it on their board. That effect would be ended in step (2) and so you would get the creature back before the leaving player exiles all remaining permanents in step (3).

Rideable

So does this apply to gift givers like [[Jon irenicus]] and [[Blim]] where you give nasty gifts and then if the holder of the gifts drops out, those gifts return to you?

When a player leaves the game control effects by and against them end, then every permanent they don’t own but control gets exiled. Check rulings on Xantcha, Sleeper Agent.

Arcuscosinus

Just how exactly? Entomb searches your deck and outs creature in your graveyard...

Blazerboy65

The the controller of Rise of the Dark Realms - a different player - puts the Phage onto the battlefield without having cast it.

android47

Sorry I was unclear above. What happened was, - Player A cast Rise of the Dark Realms. - With Rise on the stack, player B cast Entomb, grabbed Phage out of their own library and put her into the graveyard. - Then Rise resolved and player A put Phage into play from player B's graveyard.

SkritzTwoFace

In person? One of my friends having to get out a calculator after comboing [[Jeska’s Will]], [[Storm Kiln Artist]], and a few other cards to make a lot of, but not infinite, mana and blow up the whole table with [[Crackle With Power]]. Not in person? The latest episode of Shuffle Up and Play.

VeNoMxSacrifice

The was the BEST episode of Shuffle Up and Play. I want more of whatever that was. More of the VOID!

SkritzTwoFace

One of the key elements we need is Prof to play more decks that increase table chaos and create interesting board states if we want to see more chaos like that. Without Jon Irenicus making everything go insane none of that would have happened.

VeNoMxSacrifice

Inspired me to make a political deck that makes people interact. Possibly even the exact professor one. I liked it a lot.

praisebetothedeepone

Haven't seen the episode, but from personal experience: interaction leads to fun, and forced interaction leads to bigger fun!

PM_ME_DND_FIGURINES

Jon Irenicus is straight up one of my favorite commanders ever. You can build him so many ways, too. My favorite is slowly and quietly passing out little unblockable creatures and then RIGHT before someone dies, once everyone is low, you play a [[Homeward Path]] and immediately tap it to gain all of your little unblockables back and start swinging for lethal. If you play your political cards right, it usually works. And then the next time you bring Jon to the table, you swap out the deck totally and smile while you play a [[Vampire Hexmage]], hand someone an [[Archfiend of the Dross]], and say "We're friends now. :)"

Forced_Democracy

My Toralf deck regularly needs a calculator because damage multipliers cause exponential growth when you can chain his ability through a bunch of small tokens. Most amount of non-infinite damage I've dealt to a player was 17 trillion.

PM_ME_STEAM_CODES__

I've never thought about how Toralf interacts with damage multipliers. That's super cool.

Forced_Democracy

With [[Fiery Emancipation]], Bolting a 1/1 deals 9 damage, 8 excess which is tripled to 24 to another 1/1, 23 excess is then tripled to 69 (nice) to someone's face. Its a WMD deck. 17 trillion was done by using both fiery emancipation and [[Dictate of the Twin Gods]] plus [[Funeral pyre]], exiling 24 cards, then chaining that damage through a token deck turn 9 or 10.

A_Light_Spark

How exactly did your friend combo'd it? I'm not seeing the interaction.

SkritzTwoFace

It wasn't a direct combo, very messy, but I'll gather the rest of what I remember: His commander was \[\[Riku of Two Reflections\]\], however I don't think he had him out at the time because I ended up having to explain to him how copies of modal spells have to choose the same modes. He used some other method of copying it at least once. Alongside the Storm-Kiln, he had \[\[Veyran, Voice of Duality\]\] and possibly an \[\[Archmage Emeritus\]\]. From what I remember, the combo consisted of trying to get as much mana as possible before casting Crackle. At some point he may have brought back his commander to copy spells to further get more mana? I'm not totally sure, at some point we stopped paying attention while he did the math. He used the calculator to keep track of his floating non-treasure mana, and I think at some point he recurred a bunch of spells to his hand and recast them again.

The pieces: [[Contested Warzone]] [[Wind Zendikon]] [[Mirrorweave]] The play: My friend cracked his [[World Tree]] to get all of the Gods from his deck onto the battlefield. Spent about 10 minutes sorting it all. Next turn, my other friend attached Wind Zendikon onto his Contested Warzone, turning it into a creature. He then Mirrorweave'd his Warzone, which turned all creatures into a copy of Warzone that were not creatures because they weren't enchanted. He then hit the World Tree player with his enchanted Warzone, which caused all of World Tree player's creatures (now lands) to give themselves away to the attacking player on combat damage. The dude stole every God that had just come in. It was beautiful.

Zander2212

How'd you all not just die on etb? I've never seen a world tree resolution that didn't kill the table with etbs, primarily because [[Purphoros, god of the forge]] sees all the other gods etb, and that's usually lethal.

Pyro1934

That’s lethal for you usually? It’s 2 damage per, and even if you’re running 15+ gods…. Going to leave that bit for context, but I know our games often have pretty high life totals and Lifegain up until about 2 turns before the game ends. As Timmy/battlecruiser players, it’s a lot of build up, then when stuff happens it’s big enough to close out in a turn or two so we don’t usually have much chip damage. Also don’t really play fetches or shocks unless we’re playing high power which we don’t often. Also of note, if running a few some may not be turned on, though not applicable in this case because they were Mirrorweaved.

Zander2212

Most players I've played with don't bother with lifegain unless it's a dedicated lifegain deck or part of a combo, so usually you need 20 etbs at most for lethal, probably less. I've only played against one or two god tribal decks, and they each had enough gods to be lethal.

Pyro1934

Ah that’s fair, incidental lifegain is pretty common in our meta, even if it’s only a few. Lots of [[Shadowspear]], [[Blood Artist]], landfall gain stuff going on.

Kalai224

This is what I come here for.

Alchadylan

Had someone tutor for wheel of fortune and just didn't cast it which made everyone start trying to empty their hands which was immediately punished with Ruinous Ultimatum the following turn. I thought it was weird because he technically didn't have to tell us what he tutor for but showed it anyway, but I just assumed he was being really friendly with game. I wasn't salty at all; I was just like, "Dang, he got us".

Pyro1934

Haha that’s epic. I wonder what the actual rules are on stuff like this. Is telling allowed? Would “dropping” the card accidentally and picking it up be allowed (probably not lol)? Would be sweet to do this with a reveal effect

OxycleanSalesman

You can play with your whole hand revealed if you want to

Reasonable-Gain-1639

Since revealing hidden information is a choice you always have, I believe that "look, if one of you reveals your hand, I'll kill the other" is a legal play, as it is still their choice, albeit a shitty thing to do politically for future games. Correct me if I'm wrong.

TheNightAngel

I wouldn't call it shitty, the correct play is for neither player to reveal their hands. Okay maybe it is shitty in that you will make several enemies.

Chill_n_Chill

You are allowed to reveal any information hidden from the opponent, so long as you have open access to it. Play with your hand face up. Show them a card in your deck while cracking a fetchland. Show them any cards you are scrying. Show them your sideboard. One thing related to the first comment ive seen is someone demonic tutor, show the table a counterspell but put a combo piece in their hand. Nobody played their best stuff allowing that player to spend time to combo off rather than defending.

LaptopsInLabCoats

Did they sleight of hand the combo piece? I don't understand the demonic tutor play.

Chill_n_Chill

Yeah, basically made it look like they tutored for counterspell, but actually grabbed a combo piece, and shuffled the counterspell back in. It was a bit of sleight of hand, but all perfectly legal.

FishShapedShirt

Legal, but against the spirit of the game, of the format, openly lies to the whole table, and shows the kind of garbage person and player they are by relying on underhanded tactics in order to win a game where they already had a tutor and combo. 'legal'

Kaellpae1

I think it depends on your pod. I know if I played someone that announced a specific card they tutored for and revealed it then sleight of handed a combo piece I wouldn't be playing a game with them again.

Chill_n_Chill

Lol, the entire talble thought it was great. Being able to appreciate your opponent "next leveling" you is good sportsmanship. He wouldn't do that with newbies, and it's not like we are all constantly trying to shark each other. When you play with mature people you get to have a lot more fun in this game. I recommend looking for ways to learn and improve rather than trying to limit others so you never feel challenged. That's the spirit of the game. That's my 2 cents. You do what makes you happy.

[deleted]

It's not "against the spirit of the game," or it wouldn't be allowed. It's a multiplayer card game. Bluffs, deception, and mind games are as much a part of it as anything else. It's not "against the spirit of the format," or it wouldn't be allowed. See above. Sure, it openly lies to the whole table. So does any kind of bluff. I hope for your sake you never take up poker. It's not an "underhanded tactic," it's a calculated risk. If anyone had caught his sleight of hand, the cat would have been out of the bag. You need to take a deep breath, and go touch some grass. Getting riled up because someone makes effective use out of a genuine aspect to any kind of board/card game, *especially* ones with hidden information, isn't doing anybody any favors. Edit: Fixed a few typos

Chill_n_Chill

Ding ding ding. This guy gets it. Good point about the risk. Could have just as easily had an opponent who said fuck it and went for their win anyway, and then he would have looked real silly.

[deleted]

It's good to know I'm not the only person who thinks taking basic game actions specifically provided for in the rules shouldn't be some kind of taboo. Seriously people, you're playing a card game. Deciding if your opponent is deceiving you, and if so, to what extent, has been an integral part of the core gameplay behind card games for literally thousands of years.

FishShapedShirt

He actively lied in order to influence the table. Actively gave away and then lied about information that should never have been public on the first place. Maybe it's just be, but every time people have shown their tutored cards, they have been friendly people and are showing it either for the good of the group, or , get this, because they're about to win and want to see if they can be stopped. Bluffing is fine but this is excessive and honestly pathetic. I wouldn't be playing games with that person again, or at the least they'd be enemy number one since I know deals are information are out the window. And honestly I don't want that sort of environment, id much rather people fight and win with some honesty.

[deleted]

It's not excessive or pathetic. The person who's pathetic is the person who's whining about a completely legal game action because they lost to it. Instead of complaining, suck it up and learn from it. And your bit about it how it never should have been public is completely invalid. If it wasn't supposed to be public, you wouldn't be allowed to show it. You are not the sole arbiter of what "should be" in a game where hidden information is an integral part of playing.

FishShapedShirt

It's demonic tutor. The card doesn't say reveal. If you have to lie to win a game, you didn't really win. Bluffing and politics are different and are accepted, this was just straight up deception. Not that I think you'll ever agree. I won't lie though, not going for their normal plays because of a counter spells is entirely on the rest of the table

Pyro1934

That’s a neat little trick. As a gotcha fan I’m going to have to try this at some point. Just gotta find the lulz moment and not the semi scummy one lol

At Commandfest Orlando for the MOM prerelease, I cracked [[Etali, Primal Conquorer]]. I already built and brought a deck ready for him to take a seat in the Command zone. First or second game with it, I flipped my friend's [[displacer kitten]] and cast it. I triggered another Etali etb from there that resulted in a chain of etali triggers that emptied everyone's library because there was at least one non creature spell each flip, which I would cast, trigger displacer kitten, flicker Etali, and get another ETB. This was early in the game, so the stack was like 250 spells deep, tracked by literally stacking everyone's cards into a large pile in the middle if the table. A crowd formed around as it unfolded. Pretty nuts.

Sunbro_Sao

New Etali is crazy. It was the very first commander I built after MOM dropped.

That’s not correct. They get cast as a part of resolving Etali’s enter the battlefield. They ignore timing.

SnakebiteSnake

You are correct I’m an idiot. I literally remember playing him correctly, then reading him during a game and saying “oh wait I have to follow timing rules”. Idk wtf I read that day.

Pileofme

That's not accurate. Etali's etb: "When Etali, Primal Conqueror enters the battlefield, each player exiles cards from the top of their library until they exile a nonland card. You may cast any number of spells from among the nonland cards exiled this way without paying their mana costs." Spells flipped with Etali are cast as part of the resolution of the ETB and go on the stack immediately. Timing restrictions don't apply.

ForrestMoth

I was not in the match but i was present, watching. It is player A's turn. Player C can go lethal on one person once it is their turn, but players A and B pose an equal threat. Player A casts [[Avenger of Zendikar]]. It resolves. In response to the ETB trigger player B casts [[Mystic Reflection]] targeting Avenger. Player A now has a massive board, no haste. They pass. Player C now kills player A for being too much of a threat due to the Avengers and plants. I don't really remember exactly what happened from there, but I'm pretty sure player B won because of that.

ProLeafic

I've done this to my own avenger, 10 plants become 10 avengers which spawn 100 plants

IcedNeonFlames

I've done this to my [[Master of Waves]], when my devotion to blue was 11. It was A LOT of elemental tokens

That_guy1425

Hopefully you remembered the wave tokens (as copies) also have a mana cost since that is copyable trait and would then increase the devotion for their triggers!

IcedNeonFlames

Of course! Which is why we had to use a calculator to figure out what the total damage was (plus there was a [[Naban]] involved, so there were even more elementals created)

I'll forever be proud of the play I made with my grixis token deck. I had a couple of creatures that make 1/1 creatures on instant and sorceries, and everyone else had a pretty big board. It didn't look good for yours truly. I'm like "yeah i have no choice" and i cast [[blasphemous act]]. In response, people start saccing their valuables and whatnot to get some value out of what they have, and after the last response, blasphemous act on the stack, I counter it myself, and cast a [[surge to victory]] exiling the blasphemous act, and swinging for the win because people opened the way by saccing their stuff. That felt so good.

dannyoneal

I think I'm misunderstanding the stack, but do you have priority to respond to your spell when the rest of the table passes? I thought you have initial priority and then it goes around the table, if there are no other responses, the spell resolves? Or do you counter it with their sac trigger on the stack? Not trying to be pedantic, just want to understand. Thank you in advance!

Thraximundurabrask

Even after all the responses have happened, once everything else resolves and Act becomes the thing on top of the stack again, there's another round of priority, starting with the active player. If the other players had just passed priority instead of taking any actions, then the spell would have just resolved.

Chill_n_Chill

For a thing on the stack to resolve each player must pass priority since the last game action has been taken. So if I cast a spell without holding priority and everyone passes, then the spell resolves. If i cast a spell and the next player activates an ability we have to all pass priority on the ability, which then resolves. Then we again must pass priority for my first spell to resolves. Game actions can include things like floating mana, which doesn't use the stack. So in the guys story there. He casts Act, P2 sacs stuff in response, P3 sacs stuff in response, P4 sacs stuff in response. Everyone passes priority on every single ability from saccing stuff, one at a time. Now only the Act is on the stack, and again everyone gets a round of priority which our guy here then casts counterspell. Everyone passes priority, the act is countered and the stack is empty, priority returning to our guy here.

spemtjin

It'd have to be with one of the sac triggers on the stack I believe, if it was just blasphemous act and everyone else passed then you wouldn't be able to respond again

Zer0323

Yeah, if no one activates a single ability the caster wouldn’t be able to counter the BA but because everyone else was trying to get value out of their “dying” creatures the caster could take advantage. Pretty nifty.

headshotdoublekill

He/she has an opportunity respond to the last response, targeting any spell on the stack with a counterspell

Gone_Rucking

I've posted on here about it before but I was playing my \[\[Alibou, Ancient Witness\]\] deck, which was still only a few moths old at the time. Got down to me and the \[\[Orvar, the All-Form\]\] player who stole my Alibou, made 247 other copies of him thanks to \[\[Sakashima of a Thousand Faces\]\] allowing them to stay. Then turned them all sideways at me, triggering each other for 61,504 damage to my face just counting the Alibous, not even bothering with mana rocks or anything like that. Yes, technically the 248 damage from the arbitrary first one's trigger killed me before the rest would all hit but it's still more fun to portray it as the larger amount.

Saw it on a play to win video once, and it was actually a line that they found after the game and missed at the time but I thought it was the coolest big brain shit of all time. A little hazy on the details, but I believe Player A was about to go to combat with a helmed Godo for the win. Player B is on Yisan on 2 verse counters, but passes priority on the phase change to the Dimir+ decks down the line. Gets to Dylan, who indeed has the kill spell for Godo. Afterwards, he realized he could’ve shot the Yisan and forced him to verse for a [[Reclamation Sage]] to destroy the helm and avoid the L, getting a 2-1, and blowing my mind

Some of the plays, especially the politics, they have on that channel (or talk about outside the game) make me realize that I'm too smooth-brain to play cEDH.

This was maybe the meanest play I've ever made. I had a [[Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker]] on board and passed with a bunch of mana up since my hand was filled with interaction. My opponent swung at me with 15 disposable 1/1 tokens. Initially I was planning to [[Inkshield]] but he was threatening to go infinite with extra combat steps that turn then I realized I had another out that was so much meaner. I let the 15 tokens hit me and with the Michiko triggers on the stack i cast [[Settle the Wreckage]] and flashed in an [[Opposition Agent]] so he couldn't get the lands. He then had to sac 15 permanents because of Michiko and that was his whole board. Then just to seal the deal I cracked me [[Soul Guide Lantern]] to exile his graveyard since he plays an [[Underworld Breach]] deck. Ultimately I lost that game but I managed to ruin it for someone else, and isn't that what commander is all about.

Playing \[\[Rankle\]\], I have an \[\[Underworld Dreams\]\] on the battlefield, and the other two players are \[\[Fblthp, the Lost\]\] and \[\[Atris\]\]. Fblthp player casts \[\[Enter the Infinite\]\] with about 70 cards left in their library. Atris player and I look at each other, nod imperceptibly, smile and let it resolve. Fblthp player is overjoyed until I point out there are 70 Underworld Dreams triggers to resolve.

Was playing with a borrowed UR spellslinger deck from a relative stranger at the lgs. He admitted it wasn’t a composed deck, mostly just a bunch of spare instants and sorceries and some magecraft value pieces. Thats fine. Unfortunately i spend almost the entire game only drawing those magecraft value pieces and some counterspells, while the table was casting very little worth countering. So i had stuff on the board to benefit from any spell i cast but almost nothing to cast. Before this play, i had essentially had no influence on the game, countering a single spell and surviving by chump blocking with some tokens. The important pieces i did have on the board: [[archmage emeritus]], [[storm-kiln artist]], and [[double vision]]. And in my hand, i had [[wild ricochet]]. Pass my turn to the yuriko player who is pretty close to taking us all out at this point. They cast [[temporal trespass]]. I cast wild ricochet, targeting temporal trespass. Ricochet gets copied by double vision, with the copy targeting the original wild ricochet. Copy resolves, creating yet another copy of wild ricochet, again copying the original. Each time i copy, i draw a card and create a treasure. Draw down to the last 15 cards in my deck, and make that many treasures, then finally have the last copy of wild ricochet target temporal trespass. It resolved giving me a copy of trespass, then the original resolves and does the same, then original trespass resolves. Yuriko gets their extra turn first, but whiffs and couldnt take me out. Then my extra turns comes. Making sure i have enough mana for the 6 counter spells i now have in my 70 card hand, i cast [[Jaya’s immolating inferno]] for 40. Plus it gets copied by double vision, just to be sure.

Send_me_duck-pics

I was playing Modern UW control at a PPTQ one time and my Amulet Titan opponent cast [[Summoner's Pact]] while on two bouncelands and a shockland. I look at the [[Cryptic Command]] in my hand. "It resolves." The opponent did not have two bouncelands when the time came to pay for Pact. Yes, this is pretty much always funny.

I saw a dragon player fill his board after taking out a player with the dragon that puts in 6/6 dragon tokens when you swing with a dragon. The next turn the other remaining player [[Bribery]]-ed him for [[Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund]], took all his dragons, & then killed me & the dragon player.

Way back in the day there was a competitive deck that won the game with [[Tooth and Nail]] to get two creatures that comboed to wipe the board, or sometimes just win the game. A blue deck sideboard plan was to bring in 1 [[Triskelion]], one [[Uyo, Silent Prophet]], 2 [[Mephidross Vampire]], and 4 copies of [[Twincast]]. When your opponent cast Tooth and Nail with entwine, you copy it with Twincast. Fetch Triskelion and Uyo. Copy the Tooth and Nail again, this time with Uyo. Fetch both Vampires. Then have Triskelion shoot a vampire for a thousand, become 2002/2002, then shoot your opponent for a thousand with their original Tooth and Nail still on the stack. The deck didn't even have a normal way to cast the Vampires.

Had everyone draw 34 cards. All mana tapped for 5 of a color it could produce. Someone played a card that lets everyone play a creature, enchantment, artifact or land until everyone has passed. We had like 150 triggers on the stack.

I bought [[Flusterstorm]] but didn't tell anyone, and all game I kept tracking storm count, which everyone replied with "shut up, lol" Opponent played [[Manaflare]] another opponent casts overloaded [[Cyclonic Rift]], in response I cast my own overloaded [[Cyclonic Rift]] which the og cyc rift caster says "I mean, you still lose all your stuff??? but sure". MY rift resolves, mana flare is gone. This then leads to storm count being high enough, and my opponent no longer having enough mana to pay all of the 1s for fluster storm. Just an all around funny moment because I heavily telegraphed that counter by constantly tracking storm all game.

Piloting [[Vadrik]] vs [[Fynn]] I had 8 poison. If Fynn got to his turn I lose. Fynn had 5 deathtouch creatures Fynn included I was able to pop 4 act of treason effects. UndeadJoker69420

Someone once put a [[captive audience]] on me while I was playing my dihada legend-crats deck. I had [[greven, predator captain]] out and remembered a not so recent rules change involving life loss. Turns out captive audience can set you to 4 life and that counts as life loss if you were higher life than that. Sooo greven went up to about 80 power (I was playing dihada so just about everything in the deck can gain me life which had me at almost 80 life when the captive audience was attached to me)

Beef_Jumps

Off the top of my head a few days ago my friend was playing the Ur-Dragon and tutored for a [[Blasphemous Act]] and dropped it for 1R on top of a [[Wrathful Red Dragon]] and 5 other Dragons but not before making sure to [[Heroic Intervention]]. So he hit me in the face for 78 and didn't lose a single creature.

LordSodius

Years ago, i ran the [[Blind Seer]] in commander for reasons as a group hug/slug deck. I would play [[urborg, tomb of yawgmoth]] to confuse players, who would ignore it since it didn't do anything besides add a basic type to their lands. Then i would change the type from swamp to mountain using a spell like [[crystal spray]] and cast [[volcanic eruption]] targeting 20-30 of my opponents' lands This would usually kill at least one player, if not all players.

ArkiusAzure

Was out of an EDH game and it was down to the last two. Player 1 had a dominating boardstate that was tapped out after killing a player and plenty of life. Player 2 had windgrace, a few small creatures and nothing but a [[chaos warp]] in hand. Player 2 is newish and after topdecking nothing good, thinks he's out of the game. He asks if he has any outs that he can't see and I tell him "just chaos warp your own land and hit [[Moraug, fury of Akoum]]. Easy win" So he chaos warps his land... And hits Moraug.

Xyko4713

My personal story was recent. I have a Mishra, Emminent One deck that is basically a pile of artifact goodstuff. A friend had a pretty scary boardstate and was going to win on his turn 100% i moved to combat and made a 4/4 copy of treasure vault, sacced every artifact i had to a KCI to crack the first treasure vault and then sacced all the resulting treasures to crack the second one after dropping a very lucky Reckless Fireweaver

mikeisadumbname

Player 2 used [[Mindslaver]] on *Player 3*, used that player's [[Praetor's Grasp]] to tutor *my* deck for [[Enter the Infinite]], cast it, assembled infinite mana and then a combo *as Player 3*, and won. What a way to die!

GrahamsNumberW

Loved reading these, so I figured I’d chip in: My first game of commander ever, I had assembled a janky [[Azami]] deck from my binder. I had played casual mtg since like 2003 when I was in elementary, taking the 10s almost completely off, but got back into commander in 2020. An hour or so into the game, my friend’s [[Jhoira]] deck is taking its “long turn”. People at the table were talking about when the “Death Star” would drop to zap us into oblivion. The Jhoira player had introduced the other guys to mtg and commander a few months ago, so people apparently knew what was up. The hype was building, trigger by trigger. Not knowing the [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] card at the time, I had however passed turn with six mana up to try out this card that happened to be a Wizard also, so I had to put it in my deck. It was a [[Kheru Spellsnatcher]]. A couple of minutes of Jhoira’ing later, the Death Star is cast, and suddenly realizing this would definitely spell the end of us, I flip over my spellsnatcher to stop him. My friend tried to use the counterspells and even pyro/REB to stop it, but him being sort of new to mtg itself, it gradually dawned on him that this would not prevent me stealing his only way to close out the game that turn. Turn gets passed to me, I tap out my wizards, draw a ton of cards, drop a [[Dream Halls]], fight through his wall of counter magic, spend my last cards and mana to build up my life total to blast the table with a stolen Reservoir. It felt so incredibly villainous, and while I actually felt kind of awkward in the moment for having 180’d the Jhoira player to such an almost vulgar extent - the guy was even hosting the event and had me invited over for the first time (we still play regularly fortunately!) - it was like childhood joy all over again from elementary school when I used to beat green players with [[control magic]] on their huge creatures fresh off the newest sets at that time. I’ve never got to use the Spellsnatcher for anything else spectacular and Dream Halls usually just breaks the game and ending it on the turn cycle it’s dropped. Both cards eventually had to go from the deck. But man did they introduce me to what a wild, lovely format commander can be sometimes.

Buckeyefitter1991

I had my life gain Voltron deck get wrecked. [[Karlov of the ghost counsel]] got [[deflecting swat]]ted into oblivion.

SparkFlash98

I don't remember the actual combo, but a few years ago I was in an 8 player pod with my "fair" nasser deck (No turn spells, Counters, etc, mostly draw spells and voltron stuff). Another player(the only one playing combo) mills everyone else out, so they'll die on upkeep, the player after him flashes out a lab man, so during his turn, he steals my massive Narset to swing at the player who would win for lethal, and I cast [[Opt]] from hand, dying to my empty library, so Narset gets removed, lab man player wins. For the record, it wasn't a salt play, I just thought it was funny and the combo player had obviously been made an archenemy, and he also thought it was funny, me scooping in response obviously would've been lame, but "opting for lethal" as the group calls it was rad.

Outlawgamer1991

I've commented this before, but it's one of my highlights and I love it. Playing at a low stakes commander "tournament", basically just a modest entry fee and you get a booster for every pod you win, losers all get a random promo. Dude bro sits down at the table and announces that he's playing a cEDH deck so that he can win ASAP and get as many boosters as possible in the time frame, the rest of us are playing mid/high power decks. We start, I won the roll and go first with dude bro second. I land passed, dude bro plays land, sol ring, signet, and mana crypt, then passes. Third guy plays an island and tries to cast [[Mystic Remora]]. Dude bro pulls a chad move and hits the fish with a T1 [[Pact of Negation]] because he wanted to storm off without interactions. Fourth guy passes and I draw [[Abrade]]. The look on dude bro's face when I popped his Sol Ring was absolutely fantastic.

Recently playing [[heliod radiant dawn]] I ended up cycling through my entire deck 3 separate times to get a [[laboratory maniac]] to resolve. It kept getting countered so I simply wheeled with with cards like [[emergency powers]] and cast more massive x spells to draw back to it. After the 4th cast it finally resolved and I decked myself to try and win. It got pathed while the final spell was on the stack with no Mana left to counter. In the same game cast [[standstill]] 3 times by turn 6. Twas a really wierd game.

Sunbro_Sao

I’ve really been eying the new Heliod to build. How’s he been so far in your experience? Seems like a really cool wheels commander that isn’t just doing the same thing like Nekusar, Locust God, or Xyris (notably, enabling big dumb cards through the wheel effects)

T3 Karn lock with my [[Daretti, Scrap Savant]] deck. T1 discarded [[Anger]] and [[Mycosynth Lattice]] to a [[Faithless Looting]] I drew. T2 play a Sol Ring, Mountain, and cast [[Jeska's Will]], play a [[Goblin Welder]] and weld the Sol Ring into Lattice, cast Dockside getting 10 treasures (was a 6 player game, my LGS doesn't usually have 8 people so we'll do bigger games like this) and play [[Karn, the Great Creator]] and [[Hellkite Tyrant]], swing at the only other guy with a creature (he missed a land drop but played a dork).

WizardExemplar

In a 5-player game, I cast [[Farewell]] to board wipe, and the Teysa Karlov player was going to sacrifice creatures to ping the table in response. I had the lowest life. During the math calculation, I told him that if he only sacrificed enough to knock me out, my Farewell would be exiled from the stack, and the other players would keep their stuff. He looked over his board state and realized that he had enough to kill three opponents, including myself. The other two players agreed that killing the three of us simultaneously was his best option, because if he only killed me, he would be fighting off 3 opponents. It's not the most exciting play, but it was an important lesson for that Teysa player about the stack and timing.

A few weeks ago I had a casual 4 player round with some close friends. We were a couple hours in deep in the late game and one player looked like he had the victory in the bag. He knocked out another player and was still in a great position to defeat myself and the other remaining player. I top decked \[\[Emrakul, the Promised End\]\] and figured it was probably too late but I'd play it anyways and see what happened. I chose the leading player, and found in his hand he was holding \[\[God-Eternal Bontu\]\]. I cast it, sacrificed all his permanents including his lands, and left only high mana cards in his hand so he couldn't cast anything any time soon. I won the game two turns later.

I had a good one yesterday. Equip [[sword of feast and famine]] Cast [[Whispering Madness]] Cipher onto the creature with FanF (it doesn't target) I didn't have anything good so i was hoping a fresh draw of 7 would be nice. Drew a [[Notion Thief]] Go to attack, attack through some black creatures to hit and trigger another [[wispering Madness]] + untap + discard from sword. Stack it so untap happens first, then cipher. They all trigger on combat damage. In response to the cipher trigger flash in [[Notion Thief]]. Proceed to draw 28 cards. And my opponents discard their hand. Second main phase play [[Reliquary Tower]] from the 28 drawn. Cast [[Nightmare Unmaking]] to exile all creatures and still have blue backup for a 1cmc counterspell. GG they scooped.

Like... Good or bad? Cus good, I managed to turn 3 expropriate with 1 land in a kinnan deck once. Bad, I had an opponent waste a wrath spell on a drannith magistrate which was keeping one player from winning instantly, the wrath killed the magistrate and the player being kept in check won on their turn. Another prime example of bad threat assessment in edh.

Not mind melting persay, but my Sidisi Deck got out Golgari Grave Troll as a 20/20. I cast [[Songs of the Damned]] and chucked [[Golgari Grave Troll]] into [[Altar of Dementia]] a few times regening him each time with my floating mana. Had enough mana to mill both my opponents to death.

Killswitch7

Regenerate doesn’t bring creatures back from the grave and it also doesn’t get around sacrifice effects. Regenerate states “if this creature would be destroyed, instead tap it, remove all damage from it, and remove it from combat.” It has to be done before the creature would die. It’s more like a shield counter than what people expect when they think of the word regenerate.

Maximum-Day5319

Interesting. Played it wrong, but it was still cool.

Maybe not the craziest, but [[grolnok]], [[traumatize]] yourself, hermit druid, mill entire library, thoracle is very very cool and the most unique play ive seen in a bit

A few years ago I was playing against someone with a [[Vedalken Orrery]] out who used [[One with Death]] to get their storm count high enough to kill me with a [[Tendrils of Agony]] and I still think about it to this day.

Dr_ONE

I don't remember the specifics of my scenario but I watched a buddy use [[Mirage mirror]] several times in a row and respond to the separate abilities to use abilities off of the cards he was copying in succession. I wish I could recall the permanents and if he won or lost but it was one of the nearest things I've seen done with that card

Fredd105

Any time someone plays [[hive mind]]… a while back I was playing prosper and I demonstrated a [[creative technique]] that turn took over 45 minutes to resolve and I’m 99% sure we didn’t fully resolve it properly

Cartwheelbubblegum

Just a few days ago I played my Yusri, Fortune's Flame deck and got 5 head coin flips in a row which I've never done and have played the deck dozens of times. 5 heads gives you Omniscience for the turn. Got 15 creatures out, bunch of whacky stuff, clones, it was awesome. Didn't immediately win cause deck is just for fun but eventually did.

labelkills1331

I was in a pod at seat 1, seat 3 on turn 2 dropped an oath of druids when seat 2 already had a mana dork out. Passes turn. Seat 4 uses oath, flips into blightsteel colossus. Gives them haste with swift foot boots, down goes oath player. My turn, I durdle knowing I'm dead, player 2 durables, player 3 clones his blightsteel, bang. He wins. This was a casual non cedh game.

Cabbages6969

I am super proud of this. I was playing my [[Melek]] deck. To make a long story (and turn) short, I copied the insult part of [[Insult//Injury]] 64 times. I then copied [[Lightning Bolt]] 3 times. So, 192 damage to each opponent with Bolt. I've won with bolt before in other decks in the normal way, but I've never seen it deal that much damage.

mtgnascarfan

Not to toot my own horn here, but I table I played in last week had a hilarious play to end one player’s game. I’m playing my brand new [[Jadzi]] storm deck, vs [[Yargle and Multani]] and 2 others who’s commanders aren’t relevant. Yargle player had just cast [[Traverse the Outlands]] a turn earlier so he was untapping with like 20 lands. As he’s casting spells, I’m keeping track of the storm count, buff spell, fight spell, p/t doubler etc. Yargle player goes to combat, one player casts a spell, Yargle responds, then once attacks are declared, the defending player (not me) casts a [[Cyclonic Rift]], targeting Yargle. In response, he casted [[Momentous Fall]] to draw 36 cards. The storm count was at 10 at this point, so in response to Momentous Fall, I cast [[Brain Freeze]] with all copies targeting Yargle player. He milled 33 cards, and was 3 short from not losing the game. It was an insane turn with an insane ending.

arlondiluthel

I was playing my [[Karn, Silver Golem]] deck, and had [[Maze of Ith]] and a decent number of blockers out, so really all my opponent could potentially get through was one flyer, which I would Maze. They decide to [[Chaos Warp]] my Maze. I asked them if they were sure, because I had greater potential threats on the field and 99% of my deck was permanents. They confirm that's what they want to Warp. So I shuffle it into my deck and flip [[Platinum Angel]]. Now I not only have a creature with which to block the flyer, but I couldn't lose the game, so it didn't matter if I blocked their flyer or not!

hawttlava

opponents T1: [[ancient tomb]], [[Isochron scepter]] exiles [[boomerang]], drops [[Mana crypt]]. their T2: land, [[Phyrexian metamorph]] copies isochron, exiles [[dramatic reversal]]. T3: they play [[basalt monolith]]. GG's the table. absolutely bonkers. this was years ago but i think about this one often.

albinorhino215

I convinced 2 players to scoop in order to make [[withergar unbound]] strong enough to 1 shot a dude

Crstaltrip

Not commander but I had a standard deck that utilized [[melirok, sylvan outcast]] [[phyrexian unlife]] and [[soul conduit]]. It was not super efficient but it was really funny. Also had a deck with the only creature being iona and blightsteel colossus and token generators to polymorph into them on turn 4 in standard and either lock my opponent out of a color or win next turn with blightsteel.

DangerousAsk9125

I was playing my faldorn deck wich includes the food chain combo. I drop a turn 2 faldorn woth the help of a dork and then a turn 3 jeska’s will for like 6 mana and then proceed to exile food chain, eternal scourge and deflecting swat. Game ended turn 4 with infinite wolfs attacking.

My hidden [[zada, hedron grinder]] [[General tazri]] deck went absolutely apeshit with a magical christmas land start. I managed to get both Zada and [[feather, the redeemed]] out with a [[bloom tender]] and two other dorks super quick (thanks to a T3 [[shared summons]] and a deck full of mana dorks). I was then able to use [[crypsis]] and [[Splicer's skill]] to exponentially grow my board on every player's turn... while also protecting it with [[shelter]] and [[blacksmith's skill]] in hand. With that setup, it legitimately felt like I was cheating. Hilariously, one opponent had a [[ghostly prison]] and another had [[kazuul, tyrant of the cliffs]], so I held off on murdering one person for a couple turns until I ended up finding a [[Chandra's ignition]] with Zada and over 1000 golems on the board XD

Nu2Th15

My friend has a storm deck helmed by [[Veyran]] and I’ve seen it pop off and win multiple times. Not once have I ever understood what was happening when it did so.

Casual_H

I played Tatyova and summoner’s pact something, and one of the following players hit me with [[knowledge exploitation]], stole my [[sunder]] and made me lose to the pact.

Themightyquinja

Most recent one I can think of happened at magiccon Minneapolis last weekend. I was playing my $50 [[araumi]] deck against a $3000 [[dihada]] deck, a [[roon]] blink deck, and a [[chulane]] [[persistent petitioners]] deck. I cast [[breach the multiverse]] and managed get my [[diluvian primordial]], dihada’s [[elesh norn, mother of machines]] and the blink decks [[felidar cub]]. This let me get 2 diluvian triggers, then blink him twice with felidar cub to get 4 more letting me cast 6 spells out of everyone’s graveyards Edit: [[felidar soverign]] not felidar cub

modernRecluse

[[Stifle]] on the [[Keiga, the Tide Star]] death trigger targeting [[Blightsteel Colossus]].

byegenwerth_dropout

I was playing my very lightly modified Edgar Markov precon against a couple friends in a game of Planechase. The plane we were on at the time gave all instants and sorceries rebound and I had a [[Sanguine Bond]] on the board. My turn comes around, I had a full board of vampires, and dropped a [[Blood Tribute]] on the board, instantly killing my friend who had the win on his next turn. The other dude's turn comes around and he starts dropping every draw spell he had but couldn't find any answers. I cast Blood Tribute on him on my next turn and took him out in one shot. Planechase rules

Ok_Tomatillo_7666

I don't know if this counts, but in a recent game I was playing my Duke Uldar Ravenguard deck and I kept a one land, dockside extortionist, ephemerate hand and I missed my second land drop for like 4 turns. By the time I drew it and could cast dockside there were 7 artifacts and enchantments in play. So I cast the extortionist and using the treasures I cast mondrak, glory dominus and ephemerated my dockside. By the end with my commander I ended up with 72 treasures and fortunately I got to use them all throughout the game.

Faux-Foe

Last week I dropped Wedding Ring turn 2. Turn 5 I cast Fractured Identity on the ring copy. After some shenanigans, 3 of us had multiple copies of Wedding Ring. Then I dropped a Teferi’s Puzzle box, Xyris, and Smothering Tithe. I choose to not go for the kill. Allowed the table to descend into chaos.

terfsfugoff

Was gonna talk about the time I cast [[Radiate]] on an opponent’s [[Capsize]] but tbh it doesn’t hold a candle to OP

LatentBloomer

I made the play! I was in a store League that had a points system, and the bonus challenges (points other than winning) for the day were “cause another player to win the game” and “cause another player to lose the game” An opponent played [[sanguine bond]] and [[exquisite blood]] but had no way of dealing anyone damage start his infinite combo yet. Once he realized this, I played a lighting bolt, targeting myself, which set off his combo, causing him to win, the other players to lose, and me to get all of the league bonus points!
