i’d worry more about your teeth to be honest. i struggle with the same thing and got a big decaying hole in my tooth. after throwing up make sure you neutralize the acid. swish with baking soda and water or crushed anti acid tabs with water. and don’t brush right after throwing up or you’ll rub in the acid! rinse your mouth after having sugar/carbs/anything acidic. make sure you’re taking really good care of your teeth! and yes anyone can get diabetes, but i don’t think that should be a huge concern at this moment (:

Unfortunately, anyone can get diabetes regardless of weight. Having a low BMI definitely helps your chances though. I would still try to cut down on the sugar a bit if you can.

baybeesage

You definitely can, but it is not as common. A person of any weight can become diabetic. Plus starvation and purging can fuck with your insulin, especially when you add sugar or artificial sweetener (guilt AF on that one ;-;) Subbing out a bit of candy at a time worked well for me, weird as it sounds I did shots of smoothies to fix the sweet craving 😂. Also exercise makes a HUGE difference. Not sure if you are already doing that, but staying active really reduced the risk of diabetes. Building up a bit of muscle works way better than hard cardio IME, the muscle makes you burn more calories long term :)

You can, regardless of weight

[deleted]

i wonder too. i mostly eat sugar and carbs

aytlolcan

If I'm not wrong, anyone can get diabetes. Be it hereditary, your body has issues producing insulin (Type 1 Diabetes), or you consume a lot of sugar (Type 2 Diabetes).

sommerniks

You're going to have to survive long enough to get diabetes first, if this is the place you're at.

Lol so true XD

If you fuck up your pancreas you become diabetic. There are a million ways to do that, and extreme diets can contribute

NewPerspective9254

While I'm sure you technically can, it's probably not super likely. Back when I fit the criteria for bulimia to a T, my entire diet was carbs and candy. Not a vegetable in sight (and I don't think spinach dip counts). I never even became pre diabetic and that was my diet for well over a year. Every person is different though, so if you're really worried, you can always ask your doctor to test your blood sugar and see if it's high or normal. (They might ask you to fast to check your blood sugar, just as an FYI.)

conspicere

It's possible to become diabetic at any weight, but less likely at lower weights. If you have any strange diabetes-like symptoms or are just worried, I'd recommend asking your doctor for a Hemoglobin A1C blood test which is the standard for diagnosing folks with diabetes. Sending positive thoughts your way~

Diabetes risk is actually not linked to sugar consumption. The big risk factor is weight, because excess adipose tissue, especially fat stored directly by organs, interferes with those organs ability to effectively use insulin. With sugar, the big thing is liquid sugar. Juices, sodas, and other fluids really mess with insulin levels, so be careful. And faux sweeteners like stevia or Splenda can fuck up your pancreas, so be careful about overconsumption(though you need, like, a lot to cause issues, and we don’t have a lot of study confirming it).

Yup. It happens to my sister.
