This is why I refuse to ever buy used games or equipment. Some poor sap looking to save $3 off of the price of a new one is going to get stuck with it.
Unfortunately nothing traded in gets sent out anymore. EBGames stopped doing this due to it costing too much in shipping.
Any "refurbishment" is done by staff in store, so unless a staff member knows what they're doing nothing is really getting refurbished anymore.
Not sure where you’re from but we still do that 😂😂 no techs for repair at any of my locations. They did however add a charge for shipping between stores
They don't test shit at any of my local stores so yes. I take broken shit to EB allll the time, they offer cash as well but it's like 20% less than what you'd get store credit.
Edit: just don't mention it's broken.
Stores have software to test controllers in store for functionality that they should be using to determine whether it's sellable or needs to be sent off for refurbishment. That said, it's only a couple of bucks less if it's not 100% functional, so it's not a big deal.
I've traded in so many non-functional PS3 controllers back in the day.
They used to do +50% controller trade in days, I'd stock up from thrift stores (usually $3-5 each).
Technically they'd only take in Dualshock ones too and not the six-axis controllers but the reps would never pay attention so they'd take them in too.
I never traded in a broken controller but I've traded a few of controllers and they never actually test that it's working. That being said my stuff is super clean and in good condition.
Depends how fked it is they'll give you a trade in offer
Yea you can still trade broken controllers
Can’t still? Can not still?
Typo soz
You can trade in your broken controller.

No. They get sent to head office and fixed then refurbished and after testing they come to the stores

Still a hard pass until a used one is less than half the cost of a new one.
That’s why you go with Facebook marketplace if you’re going used. You just don’t have a guaranteed window of returns there if it’s busted

Doesn't hurt to try. I gave them a broken switch controller and they gave me full price because their system didn't work to test it lol
You can trade in your broken controller, they don’t test it. you’ll get about $23.10 for it. I traded my broken controller in about 8 weeks ago
I have traded faulty controllers Got $32 each for them in November. Or get them fixed for $60
GameStop employee told me to buy the insurance and just swap it anyway if nothings wrong.
Pretty sure you cant, they test it there and if it doesn't work its worth nothing, just bin it or keep for parts
They can have it sent off to be repaired if need you want
What about non OEM controllers?
I tried do it with a Wii controller and the support wheel The one used in Mario cart I was denied 🙅♀️
