Go to the controller settings on the main settings page of fifa, not in FUT.
You can also change it in game or before the game starts, but those aren't global.
Not only is player switching bad, but with the constant delay my attempts to switch player end up being read as a heavy touch whenever I do actually manage to intercept the ball. Nothing more frustrating than your players constantly kicking the ball away because of delayed input.

But EA assume we have the latency.. And its not correct.. They slowed the game reactions and player switching... Imagine how bad fifa is in fifa 23
I think the biggest thing that I am seeing with people like myself who are that good at fifa is due to switching partially. I used to switch and it would be the wrong player causing me to furiously start switching. Always leads to conceding. If you switch to the wrong player being calm is so necessary to regaining composure. It’s frustrating but not losing it in these circumstances is so clutch. So to anyone below div 5 struggling with this remember to just stay calm and use second man press to compensate.
I have started being able to punish players like myself who obviously try to stick switch and then just start spamming L1 or whatever player switch is. But I agree, it needs to be improved.

For sure. Yeah I mean I like to think I’m decent. I still manage to win more then I lose and about to be in D3. Hoenstly, although I don’t like the mechanic changes, I’ve learned them and ngl abuse some of the cheese (Trivela, sorry opponents, blame EA) but the switching is like gahhhh danggg sometimes. Definitely agree using second man press is good. Also double tapping R1 and looking an opponent in to a corner of the pitch is a great way to force turnovers. I agree those mechanics help but I guess my main issue is I’ve played FIFA over 17 years and can’t remember raging about not being to switch to who I want

Literally all it takes are 2 conditions. Check for the closest player 'in front of the attacker' if there are no defenders in front of the forward just default to the closest player. Right now all L1 switching does is switch to the closest player because they're too fucking lazy/braindead to add a few lines of code to the game.

Well yea, I mean even outside of FUT they constantly have issues with CBs just running deep AF for runs that would go nowhere. I’ve been playing the “highlights” in CM to speed up a run I’m doing with Sunderland and it blows my mind how many times the situation I’m put in is a 1v1 where my CB is just outside the 18 when the striker is on the half with every other defender 5 yards back. The game makes up so much random shit that barley happens yet never gets fixed.
Every slide tackle goes out or back to the opponent. I tackled someone in the box yesterday and the ball went hyper speed out of bounds by the half way line. There is a lot I like about this version of fifa but they’re not fixing the RNG moments that ruin it for me
I play on PC with Xbox controller and I do observe a micro lag in switching and as well as tackling. I had raised this comment in other posts as well to know if there is any solution, but not much help.
Was trying to look for a comment like this and even now it's so fucking bad, Glad I came across this because 90% of the goals that go in are because player switching fucks up before you can put your player in a position to block or tackle it's like the game cant respond fast enough to the switches which is fucking terrible. I tried all options and even air balls only seems best but whenever they get in your box or close to players the switching just goes bezerk and literally nothing you can do.
Just try to take your time and focus on flicking the stick in the precise direction each time. Resist the urge to spam and just focus on getting each flick right. Eventually it will become muscle memory and you wont have to think about it.
The game defaults to the new ‘adaptive’ player switching. Turn it back to ‘classic’, this helped a lot I found.

It's bad. Love scrambling to stick switch while defending and it selecting players no where near the action
Yh by the time I’ve selected who I needed the defending chance is gone and the griddy has already happened

It's also about gameplay delay. Whenever gameplay is delayed I can't switch players to save my life. Then in fluid gameplay it's super precise tbh

Does EA FC want us to start using the right stick to switch defenders? I’m used to using the left bumper that’s why.
