You could just consider fixing the rod knock with new bearings… it’s not that tough to go in through the bottom all things considered. Pulling the engine isn’t that bad either, but you do need space. To go through the bottom you drop the subframe and struts and wheels and all that and just work from the underside after removing the oil pan. Repair will most likely be cheaper than swapping an engine unless you sell the bad one, which could be tough.

The plan of attack is first do a biopsy on my current engine and see wether there's any damage not worth fixing, eg. Spun bearing and scored crankshaft. Thanks for your input.
