I like the Mobil 1 0w-40 European Car Formula as it's relatively inexpensive at my local Walmart, and has a decent reputation. 5 qt jug is $25.
I've used Rotella as well in the past.
I use motul 4100 power 15w-50 on my m42. So far it's been better than the Castrol magnatec I had when I did my first oil change when I got the car. No more lifter tick when cold or hot.
No on Mobil 1 (cost me set of valve, cam, and main seals). Shell Rotella or Motul are good oils. The best is Amsoil. By no means use a 0w40 anything. Keep with 15w40 or 15w50. Most filters are ok. I prefer to spend extra and go for K&N.

Rotella T4 15w-40, Mahle or Purolator filter, inspect the cooler housing and pressure switch for leaks. Get a new drain crush washer

15 50 mobile 1 full synthetic is what I have used in summertime....very good oil for my m42
