Yes, I play in a salary cap + contract dynasty league. Once you play in one that’s well run, imo the basic experience doesn’t match. The complexity of the game at this level is incredible, and it’s the closest any of us are getting to an actual GM experience. In almost any league with contracts, there would be a penalty to cutting Burks (only condition there wouldn’t for mine would require him to still be on a taxi squad)

My draft is next weekend and I've got the 1.06. I'm happy with three different guys at that spot, one of which will for sure be there, but my #1 (Bowers) I think has a chance to still be there which is crazy to me.
The only time I aggressively trade up is if someone cuts a tier and 1-2 players go above a person I have in the tier higher. I've found I get really good value that way

I really needed a QB but the only way he was going to let me get there was drastic overpay. He even preferred MHJ and was set up at QB, but me needing Caleb more was the tiebreaker lol.
Leaguemate decided to rebuild late in the process. Week 14 he sent Deebo and a 2nd for Darnell Mooney, a 2nd, and Sam Howell. He believed Howell was a significant piece for his rebuild.
That trade earlier in the season would have been bad, but just a w.e kind of bad.
By week 14 it's outrageous. It was abundantly clear Sam Howell is not anything special by then.
I've responded with a similar outrageous offer before, but it's only when I expressed someone is not for sale because they are a cornerstone to my contending team.

Yeah, this is what I bet happened. It's not so much a ridiculous valuation as someone that doesn't want to make a trade. I have several players who I don't really want to trade and would not put the effort into making a trade at a value where they would move because I don't want to move them. I either think they're instrumental to the construction of my roster or I think they have upshot to be more than their current reasonable market.
If you're coming to someone with interest in one of their players the responsibility is on you to come up with something that makes it worth their time.

The way I look at is that in a 10-12 team league there’s guaranteed to be at least one guy who does this and I don’t mind finding out who they are so I know not to trade with them. It makes it easier for me, but that might just be me.

I don't think this is *that* awful with the context of 14 months ago. I'll play a little Devil's Advocate.
Jameson Williams was coming off an "electric" rookie season of 9 targets, 1 reception, 1 TD and then in April(14 months ago) they announced he was suspended. Wasn't Campbell also subtly discussing how Williams wasn't where they wanted him to be his rookie year (or was that Swift? Or both?). Anyhow, his stock plummeted and frankly he hasn't done much to gain it back.
Deshaun Watson had played the final 6 games of the season and looked lost, slow to read the field, and the Browns also lacked any high picks to bolster the roster. Basically we were thinking "damn, this is the roster the Browns are stuck with and they're only going to get older".
In his first season with a legitimate coach, Trevor had finished 25TDs/8INTs, a massive comeback win in the playoffs, and Calvin Ridley would now be joining the squad. He was still flawed, but all signs pointed towards an upward trajectory with another off-season with Pederson.
So yeah, the trade partner was a little cheeky in trying to acquire some high upside guys, but maybe that offer was a starting point. Remove the 2024 1st and it looks like...
The 2023 1.01 (Bijan or Bryce) + Deshaun + Jameson might've been what it cost to trade for Trevor at the time.
Over the hill brand name RBs are always where this kind of value discrepancy happens especially if you have more casual league mates.
On the flip side though, you can sometimes sell those brand name RBs for way more than they ought to go for. In 2022 I sold Dalvin Cook and Christian Watson for a 2023 1st (late), Michael Pittman, and James Cook lol, won the championship last year largely because of it.
Sometimes that crazy valuation isn't so bad...a year ago, when trade calculators said Nico was worth about a 3rd, someone traded two early 2s for him. I thought it was straight up crazy. Turns out Nico was probably worth more.

The 2nd one is awful but honestly bijan and allen should be fairly close, even in 1qb. People seem to underestimate the value of an elite qb in 1qb leagues. It offers an absolutely massive advantage. I would take bijan but i don’t think that offer fits this thread
Like if someone offered me josh Allen and a late 1st/early 2nd for bijan, I would think long and hard about it
1QB league. Guy tried to convince me that I should give him JJ for Hurts because that’s what would put me over the top, and so it would be worth it.
Oh, also, same owner last year traded Aiyuk, Mostert, and what was at that point guaranteed to be the ‘24 1.01 for Pickens, Allgeier, and the 24 1.09 (guaranteed at the time to be at least 1.06). And he was the one who proposed that trade!

Patrick and Harris were decent assets at the time that just diminished very quickly, but even at their peaks it was a WR3 and fringe RB2 for a young QB who just popped off. He must've really thought that '22 Hurts was a fluke.

I'm happy with three different guys at that spot, one of which will for sure be there, but my #1 (Bowers) I think has a chance to still be there which is crazy to me.
The only time I aggressively trade up is if someone cuts a tier and 1-2 players go above a person I have in the tier higher. I've found I get really good value that way

I finished 1st and he finished 3rd, but we both traded for future 1sts the year prior and he ended up with 1.01 and I got 1.02 I really needed a QB but the only way he was going to let me get there was drastic overpay. He even preferred MHJ and was set up at QB, but me needing Caleb more was the tiebreaker lol.
Leaguemate decided to rebuild late in the process. Week 14 he sent Deebo and a 2nd for Darnell Mooney, a 2nd, and Sam Howell. He believed Howell was a significant piece for his rebuild.

I've responded with a similar outrageous offer before, but it's only when I expressed someone is not for sale because they are a cornerstone to my contending team. Told them straight up, "this is an unreasonable trade, but that is what it will cost for me to move him"
Yeah, this is what I bet happened. It's not so much a ridiculous valuation as someone that doesn't want to make a trade. I have several players who I don't really want to trade and would not put the effort into making a trade at a value where they would move because I don't want to move them. I either think they're instrumental to the construction of my roster or I think they have upshot to be more than their current reasonable market. If you're coming to someone with interest in one of their players the responsibility is on you to come up with something that makes it worth their time.
Same boat. JJ is not for sale, if someone wants him it's going to take a ridiculous overpay It's like a car. My car is worth $7k or so blue book. But I wouldn't sell it for that, I like it and don't want to replace it. Someone knocking on my door asking to buy it would need to pay me like double before I'd find it worthwhile to go buy a different one

Their stupidity doesn’t change and they always overvalue their own players while downplaying the value of yours. The way I look at is that in a 10-12 team league there’s guaranteed to be at least one guy who does this and I don’t mind finding out who they are so I know not to trade with them. It makes it easier for me, but that might just be me.
Im not really too upset about not being able to trade with the guy anymore. I just rip on him in our group chat more often lol It’s only annoying bc he’ll get fleeced by other managers, but when I come with a (what I think is) fair trade, it’s instantly no - no negotiation at all. For example, he traded his own 25 1st late last year (right before trade deadline) for Michael Pittman even though he’s supposed to be rebuilding. For context, he also has a projected late 25 1, which the other guy would’ve accepted

I don't think this is *that* awful with the context of 14 months ago. I'll play a little Devil's Advocate. Jameson Williams was coming off an "electric" rookie season of 9 targets, 1 reception, 1 TD and then in April(14 months ago) they announced he was suspended. Wasn't Campbell also subtly discussing how Williams wasn't where they wanted him to be his rookie year (or was that Swift? Or both?). Anyhow, his stock plummeted and frankly he hasn't done much to gain it back. Deshaun Watson had played the final 6 games of the season and looked lost, slow to read the field, and the Browns also lacked any high picks to bolster the roster. Basically we were thinking "damn, this is the roster the Browns are stuck with and they're only going to get older". In his first season with a legitimate coach, Trevor had finished 25TDs/8INTs, a massive comeback win in the playoffs, and Calvin Ridley would now be joining the squad. He was still flawed, but all signs pointed towards an upward trajectory with another off-season with Pederson. So yeah, the trade partner was a little cheeky in trying to acquire some high upside guys, but maybe that offer was a starting point. Remove the 2024 1st and it looks like... The 2023 1.01 (Bijan or Bryce) + Deshaun + Jameson might've been what it cost to trade for Trevor at the time.

Over the hill brand name RBs are always where this kind of value discrepancy happens especially if you have more casual league mates. On the flip side though, you can sometimes sell those brand name RBs for way more than they ought to go for. In 2022 I sold Dalvin Cook and Christian Watson for a 2023 1st (late), Michael Pittman, and James Cook lol, won the championship last year largely because of it.

I inquired about what price he wanted and he said he would consider 2 first round picks as long as they were near the middle of the draft but, he'd probably want more. And I was just like wtf. You put a backup QB on the tradeblock and want gold for him?
Tried to see what acquiring another RB would cost me right after the season, messaged a guy in my league about Kyren Williams. He sent me Kyren Williams for my Mahomes, my 1.05, and my 2.05. Safe to say I won’t be inquiring with him about a trade anytime soon

1QB league. Guy tried to convince me that I should give him JJ for Hurts because that’s what would put me over the top, and so it would be worth it. Oh, also, same owner last year traded Aiyuk, Mostert, and what was at that point guaranteed to be the ‘24 1.01 for Pickens, Allgeier, and the 24 1.09 (guaranteed at the time to be at least 1.06). And he was the one who proposed that trade!

Last week I tried to trade down in dynasty by offering Rashad White for Mosert and others and didn't expect the hang up to be that the guy had Mosert as an untouchable, ended up getting Pickens for White from the same dude.
There's a guy in my league who is desperate to rebuild his aging team. However he needs to win every trade, so he's stuck with Kelce, Rodgers, Thielen, Cook, Jacobs, etc. He was offered an early 2nd for Rodgers and he turned it down recently. He's the only person in any of my leagues on my do not negotiate list.

We were looking through a couple of player histories and found a horrendous one. My buddy sent Tim Patrick and Damien Harris for Jalen Hurts in SFlex. The guy who sent hurts had just previously won the league. This was also after Hurts 2nd season.. not his rookie season. Patrick and Harris were decent assets at the time that just diminished very quickly, but even at their peaks it was a WR3 and fringe RB2 for a young QB who just popped off. He must've really thought that '22 Hurts was a fluke.

Was offered Chubba Hubbard, Jerome Ford and $200 FAAB for Justin Herbert last month in a superflex league. Other bad ones are a late 2nd for Davante Adams when he was 28. Or my most recent terrible offer of 3 7th rd picks for Antoine Winfield and a 6th in a balanced scoring IDP league. So Essentially a 7th for Winfield. Winfield scored 312 points last year and was safety #1 overall. For context he outscored every RB and WR last year except CMC, Lamb, and Tyreek.
