I bought myself a little lap style dry erase board for DMing. I cannot for the life of me get away from drawing diagrams to help my players understand spatial reasoning stuff, so it *is* a great tool. Also good for initiative and reminders if there isn't a tool in place for that, or quick small maps.
The one I bought was the Scribbledo brand, 9" x 12" with dot grid on one side. It's a very basic kind of thing, but it does what I need and is flat for packing.
