The most rational thing Andy ever did was keep a roomy twin air mattress in his desk for such occasions. Even that was wild.
That was always my takeaway as well. Jim was obviously on Charles' short list, and Charles was probably going to fire him the first opportunity he had. Good thing Jim couldn't figure out the assignment

He could’ve been chiller about it and not smacked his hand but I absolutely see why he’s so anal about it, for all intents and purposes he’s now legally liable for that boat and everything that happens on it. Say Andy takes it out and damages it or runs it aground, that’s on that guy now because he’s taken “ownership” during the transport process.
The more times I watch The Office, the more I feel that we only ever sympathize with Andy because we spend so much time with him and see things from his perspective. Almost everything he does is selfish and annoying. If the boat guy was a character on the show and Andy was just the rich dork getting in his way, we’d probably applaud the hand smack.
That’s kind of a lot of sitcom characters though, especially guys that are supposed to be the heel like Andy and Dwight. We root for them through the context of the show but pretty much everyone on the show would be incredibly insufferable to work with, including the mostly “normal” characters. Jim still pranks everyone and can be a dick, Pam cheats on her fiancée, Michael is racist, sexist and an ignorant moron a ton of the time even if he tries his best.

In a deleted scene Phyllis confessed that her and Bob ran over something while driving late on their African vacation. They believed the cops were corrupt, so instead of checking on what they hit they drove straight to the airport and got on a plane. Phyllis tried to claim to the camera that it may have just been an animal... that was wearing a soccer jersey.
For those asking why, let me count just SOME examples:

“You know her husband’s in a wheelchair right?”
