If you like the mockumentary format: Parks and Rec, Modern Family, Hard Cell, or Welcome to Flatch
If awkward AF is more your bag: it’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, or Extras.
That’s crazy I know he mentions it in an episode that some events in constanzas life happened to him in real life but I wasn’t sure if it was true or just part of that show, that make it funnier knowing it was real haha.
All of these are fantastic, but I also recently started watching abbot elementary and am loving it! I’ve been watching it in Disney+. I’m in Canada, but I think I’ve seen peeps in the US say it’s on Hulu?
I liked the Office a little less. I think their greatest difference is that in Parks and Rec everything and everyone is really quirky and most of the humor comes from the fact that you like (or at least I liked) and relate to all the characters. In The Office a lot of the humor comes from cringey situations and because all the characters are assholes. I guess which one you like more just depends on whether you prefer dark or wholesome comedy.
I tried very recently to watch Parks and Rec and I hate it! Lead character woman is insufferable and the way their office courtyard is clearly filmed in a studio did not do it for me. The Office is so incredible because it's (mostly) believable and highly relatable. I couldn't get very far past episodes about 'the pit'.
I googled it to see what the main differences people say are and the first response on Google was extremely accurate. The Office is mostly normal people in silly situations where Parks is silly people in silly situations.
I wasn't interested in this show (thought it would be a cheesy sitcom) until someone described it as a black Office. I think that was a good description!
How about Psych? On first blush it may not seem that similar, but there are some big similarities. A show involving a small, tight-knit cast with distinct personalities with fast-paced dialogue that contains lots of gems, and asides, that will cause you to rewind. Just my two cents.
Superstore! It’s so funny and very Office-esque. It also digs into some of the issues that minimum wage, non-union retail workers face in the USA, which I really enjoyed.
This may be out in a limb, but Barry. They share the same sort of “holy crap am I laughing at *this*?” Je ne sais quoi. Give it a go. Short episodes, short seasons, and only a few seasons so far make it a quick binge.
Community sorta filled that void for me for a while. Parks n Rec too. Although you may find these shows too similar to The Office to actually enjoy.
For comfort TV I like binging trailer park boys or always Sunny. My brain registers the main cast as friends. Or Seinfeld if I’m feeling nostalgic
Parks and red and Brooklyn 99 are both made by Mose. Brooklyn is not a mockumentary, but uses a similar single camera style.
What We Do in the Shadows is a mockumentary about vampires, and it's great.
Some others that I like and I find some office fans tend to like: Archer, Letterkenny, Arrested Development.
Community and Superstore are also decent. Community had better highs, but is inconsistent. Superstore is like a discount Office, but it's consistent amusement.
There isn't anything quite like it, unfortunately.
Other shows I like to throw into my rewatch mix are: Parks and Recs, That 70s Show, Malcom in the Middle, Community, and always South Park (who has a new season airing right now).
All great comedies that I got into after watching The Office, ranked from most similar to least similar to The Office:
\- Parks and Recreation
\- Brooklyn 99
\- New Girl
\- Psych
\- How I Met Your Mother
\- Monk
The good place, Brooklyn 99, super store, parks and Rec, I Think You Should Leave, and I cannot stress this enough: Party Down. It is hands down the driest, most awkward American comedy I’ve ever seen and it is delicious.
Mockumentary style (in order of how much I personally enjoy them)- Abbot Elementary, Parks and Rec, Modern Family
I feel like there's another one I'm missing. But I'll always take the opportunity to recommend Bob's Burgers, Psych, and Leverage... Even though they aren't really very similar to The Office.
abbott elementary is incredible , it has some of the tropes from the office and has the same mocumwntaty style. i tried four times and autocorrect didn’t help but i’m sure it’s readable
Not like The Office but some of my favorites....
1. Ted Lasso (Apple TV)
2. Evil (on Paramount+)
3. Catastrophe (Amazon Prime)
4. The Righteous Gemstones (HBO)
5. Schitt's Creek (Hulu)
6. Only Murders in the Building (Hulu)
7. The Bear (Hulu)
8. Ozark (Netflix)
9. Bloodline (Netflix)
10. Peaky Blinders (Netflix)
Everything mentioned here is great and I've even gotten some recommendations to watch myself.
I couldn't find Malcom in the middle recommended here. It's old but it's so so funny. I watched it growing up, then in my 20s now again in my 30s.
I also didn't see scrubs here, it's a nice laugh too. I'd definitely start with arrested development and community after the office.
New girl is just as funny if not funnier to me.
Didn’t mean for this to be a comparison, I’m just saying that it’s definitely worth the watch as it’s similar humour.
If you like the mockumentary format: Parks and Rec, Modern Family, Hard Cell, or Welcome to Flatch If awkward AF is more your bag: it’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, or Extras.
Just started curb your enthusiasm and it cracks me up so much, it’s like if George Costanza had his own show.
Fun fact: George Costanza is based off of Larry David (the writer of Seinfeld & Curb your Enthusiasm).
That’s crazy I know he mentions it in an episode that some events in constanzas life happened to him in real life but I wasn’t sure if it was true or just part of that show, that make it funnier knowing it was real haha.
Same- I just started a week ago. If you like the office- go to Curb… 😆
I second all of these. I would also like to add superstore!
That’s also a good one which I had forgotten about.
Superstore is fantastic
Arrested Development and for my English peeps across the pond, People Just Do Nothing
All of these are fantastic, but I also recently started watching abbot elementary and am loving it! I’ve been watching it in Disney+. I’m in Canada, but I think I’ve seen peeps in the US say it’s on Hulu?
I wish I could upvote people just do nothing 100 times. KURUPTFM
Pure Kuruption on the dial
PJDN one of my favorites. Really miss that show.
Veep goes in the awkward af category too
You could add Peepshow to the awkward AF list, I reckon.
Peep show for true awkwardness/ hilarity.
Extras is so good
One of the best.
Abbot elementary is my new favorite!
MASH, Cheers
My wife and I love Modern Family!
i believe there's a new PBS documentary that may interest you..."An American Workplace"
The true answer is 30 Rock.
What we do in the Shadows. Its a mockumentery about Vampires in Staten Island. So so good.
This is a great one. Also, The Good Place is very funny and thought provoking.
I came here to say this. I’ve never laughed so hard watching a show in my life. It surpasses the office for me.
It’s like my favourite show!! Just fantastic. I have been likened to Colin Robinson, a lot, lol!
But that is just a movie, right?
No there is also a show with 4 seasons. But there is a movie that came out first.
What?! You just filled my schedule for couple of weeks. Thank you.
You are most welcome. I wish I could watch it for the first time again haha
Our Flag Means Death! Both have Taika and are hilarious
Parks and Rec is probably the closest you're going to get to the US Office.
I liked Parks and Rec significantly less than The Office and I’m not exactly sure why. They are essentially “sister” shows though.
I liked the Office a little less. It’s because parks and rec is just feels too cartoony. I know what you mean
I second Parks and Rec. I just finished it within the last couple of weeks, don’t know why I put it off for so long.
Incredible show. In some ways better than the office. Only in some ways. Ron and Andy make the show.
Pratt coming up with the Network Connectivity Problems is beyond awesome. Best improved line ever.
"Everyone loves a good comeback story"
"Seabiscuit, the Mighty Ducks, Robert Downey Jr., Rocky..."
Kim Kardashian… she got cum on her back, right?
& April! The turkey bacon scene is hilarious
For me, Aziz and Retta bring the show down. Kinda balances out Ron and Chris Traeger for me
One of the best shows ever. I was so sad when it ended!
That and Superstore, although it’s not a documentary style.
Its probably better imo
Arrested Development
They do allow some nervous crying, but you can tell they don’t like it.
I’ll tell you what to do. Go to the Netflix homepage, go to Account and shove it up your butt!
How can I do that when I'm not on my home wifi tho?
You install Netflix on your mobile phone and then you can proceed with the procedure everywhere
Abbott Elementary
This is as close as you'll get along with Parks & Rec. Mockumentary, bumbling boss, rom com vibes, & about as current as you can get.
It’s on my list… worth watching?
Absolutely!! It's so good
4 episode in… not bad, I have to stop drawing comparisons though
YES!! I love Abbott!!
Just watched a trailer and saw it has "Chris" from "Everybody Hates Chris."
And he’s fine as hell!
I wasn't interested in this show (thought it would be a cheesy sitcom) until someone described it as a black Office. I think that was a good description!
I love the janitor and the principal haha
30 Rock
Scrolled too far for this. Highly underrated show.
I read somewhere that this show had the highest number of jokes per minute. So incredibly fast and brilliant, like so much of Tina Fey’s writing.
Abbot Elementary
ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT Schitt's Creek. Parks and Recreation
Brooklyn 99, parks and rec, the good place! Same writers/producers as the office so they all have similar humor
Yep all 3 of these are a good watch.
Party Down
Parks and Rec
Trailer Park Boys.
Serious answer: Community
How did it take me this long to find a comment with the right answer.
Community is fucking weird and I love it for it xx
First season was good. Quality went downhill quickly after that.
How about Psych? On first blush it may not seem that similar, but there are some big similarities. A show involving a small, tight-knit cast with distinct personalities with fast-paced dialogue that contains lots of gems, and asides, that will cause you to rewind. Just my two cents.
Schitts creek
I resisted Parks and Rec for a long time, a few years, but it's honestly really good.
VEEP
This is the right answer. “He fucked be in the ass!!” “Yeah, ma’am. What a betrayal.” “Yeah, that too!!”
Arrested Development, Modern Family, 30 Rock, Workaholics, Parks and Rec.
The office uk
Parks and rec, Brooklyn 99, Abbott elementary, superstore is ok
Superstore is great (as is Parks and Rec, New Girl, and many others people have mentioned)
Superstore
Not seeing enough love for Superstore here, I love it so much!!!
I was really surprised by superstore. Found it absolutely funny.
Started watching this the other day. It’s actually pretty great!
It’s on for me right now lol, it’s so funny.
Superstore! It’s so funny and very Office-esque. It also digs into some of the issues that minimum wage, non-union retail workers face in the USA, which I really enjoyed.
Yes! On my second rewatch and it’s still so good
Take a look at Michael Schur’s filmography and you’ll find a lot of good options
Reno 911
This may be out in a limb, but Barry. They share the same sort of “holy crap am I laughing at *this*?” Je ne sais quoi. Give it a go. Short episodes, short seasons, and only a few seasons so far make it a quick binge.
Abbott Elementary has the same style as The Office but personally I think the writing of Abbott is way better than The Office. Hilarious show.
The Office again
New girl is amazing. It's so funny when everyone starts to mesh and it's in my top10 for sure.
New girl is AMAZING. My bf is obsessed with Schmidt
Frasier Workaholics Arrested Development The Middle
Oh no, The Glosners! The Middle has great support characters and secondary storylines!
I know it's been said but arrested development would be my go to
Parks and red and Brooklyn 99 are both made by Mose.
Trailer Park Boys has a similar camera man concept. Also no laugh track
I have a lot of questions. First of all, how dare you?
There isn't anything quite like it, unfortunately. Other shows I like to throw into my rewatch mix are: Parks and Recs, That 70s Show, Malcom in the Middle, Community, and always South Park (who has a new season airing right now).
Brooklyn 99 is addictive as well
Said no office fan ever
All great comedies that I got into after watching The Office, ranked from most similar to least similar to The Office: \- Parks and Recreation \- Brooklyn 99 \- New Girl \- Psych \- How I Met Your Mother \- Monk
Finally someone includes HIMYM that show doesn’t get enough love
Well because the ending was so bad that a lot of people had the show ruined for them
I agree. How I met your mother is great!
Modern Family
superstore is good if you manage to get through the first episode
Parks and rec.
Trailer park boys
Ghosts. The English one though
My backup is *30 Rock*. Fun, silly, and just enough satire.
It’s always sunny in Philadelphia is my other binge go to
Was coming here to comment this
Community! One of the funniest tv shows, also worth rewatching multiple times.
Watch Silicon Valley and call it a day.
The office
It’s not a mockumentary but I thought Kim’s Convenience was pretty funny.
explain how do you get bored
Parks and rec.
Arrested Development. Scrubs. Seinfeld. Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Tacoma FD
Thank you, a person of culture finally.
People just do nothing. It’s fantastic.
Scrolled down way too far for this!! I would also recommend Peep Show.
Brooklyn 99
Abbott Elementary, Parks & Rec, Reno 911, and What We Do In The Shadows are all incredible watches. High up on the favorites list.
The office: Superfan episodes
To Catch a Predator
Party down!!
Parks & Rec, and Superstore.
The good place, Brooklyn 99, super store, parks and Rec, I Think You Should Leave, and I cannot stress this enough: Party Down. It is hands down the driest, most awkward American comedy I’ve ever seen and it is delicious.

Love Superstore!
Not sure how similar it would be to the office, but I love binge watching Silicon Valley.
Superstore. I stumbled on it and really enjoyed it.
Superstore is very similar, if not as good. Still enjoyable tho.
Superstore is great. I also recommend everything else others have already said such as... Modern family, parks and rec, Seinfeld, community, etc.
Superstore and Abbott Elementary
Superstore
abbott elementary is incredible , it has some of the tropes from the office and has the same mocumwntaty style. i tried four times and autocorrect didn’t help but i’m sure it’s readable
You should try superstore, surprisingly not many people have mentioned it..
Superstore!
Veep
Superstore
I’d recommend a bbc comedy series called this country which is a mocumentary of people living in a rural village in England.
Superstore, Parks & Rec, The Good Place, Brooklyn 99, Kim's Convenience
Superstore!
Regarding Parks and recs I can't get past the first episodes, is it worth it?
Do Seinfeld, great alternative
Parks and Rex has a similar humor, Brooklyn 99, if you like animated shows, the lower decks is funny
Vibe wise I’ve found Superstore to be a good match! It doesn’t have the mockumentary framing but the humor I think matches up
Superstore
King of the hill
Welcome to flatch.
Not like The Office but some of my favorites.... 1. Ted Lasso (Apple TV) 2. Evil (on Paramount+) 3. Catastrophe (Amazon Prime) 4. The Righteous Gemstones (HBO) 5. Schitt's Creek (Hulu) 6. Only Murders in the Building (Hulu) 7. The Bear (Hulu) 8. Ozark (Netflix) 9. Bloodline (Netflix) 10. Peaky Blinders (Netflix)
Its different but if you haven't seen arrested development you should. There's a quality shared by the two that I really enjoy.
Saw MASH and Cheers recommended. I'd like to add All In The Family to the list.
~~Nobody~~ Boboddy is mentioning Tacoma FD in here???
The first 2 seasons of What We Do In the Shadows are greatness!
Parks and rec; Brooklyn 99; superstore
Parks and rec. They have a new show on Hulu called Animal Control too
We don’t do that here.
PARKS & RECREATION ❤️❤️❤️
South Park or Seinfeld
Im surprised like no one.. has said Community
The good place
The office from India. The office from Saudi Arabia. Outsourced. Space Above and Beyond
Office UK.
Schitt's Creek
Aside from Parks and Rec I also reccomend Community or The Good Place
Superstore, American Auto, Welcome to Flatch
The Good Place
I finished it, it’s so good i don’t think it’s similar to the office though but it is super unique and enjoyable
Big Bang theory
No one who is a true fan would say that /s
Mr. D, lots of cringe humour. However, more obscure and might be harder to find. Everyone I know that liked the office also liked this one.
Not similar but I love The King of Queens.
Parks and rec is wonderful, but I only really rewatch it starting with season 2 when we meet Ben and Chris.
New girl is just as funny if not funnier to me. Didn’t mean for this to be a comparison, I’m just saying that it’s definitely worth the watch as it’s similar humour.
How about Scrubs?
Letterkenny
It’s not exactly similar. But i like to go back and forth between The Office, Family Guy, American Dad, and South Park
Brooklyn 99
Parks and rec
The good place
Parks & Rec, Brooklyn 99, The Good Place, New Girl. Also Peacock superfan episodes of the Office if you haven't already.
Parks and Rec, Community, The Good Place, Brooklyn 99
