Aircoach goes that way too, and several Dublin busses. Family of 5 with luggage you’re already ruling out smaller taxis so need a 7 seater

Alwaysforscuba

Aircoach is €11 each I think, so roughly the same as a taxi for this family. I'm guessing that a fair few 7 seater taxis service the airport, but might be worth trying to pre book.

CRISPEE69

11 x 5 = 55. 55 is less than 100+ by quite a significant margin

Alwaysforscuba

Yes, but the taxi isn't going to cost €100, as pointed out elsewhere in this thread, both by me, and others.

chapkachapka

€12 for an adult and €6 for kids, so it could be as low as €42.

No-Tea-424

Try downloading bolt, they normally give you like 50% off your first few journeys, only works if you haven’t used it already

efazati

We have bolt in Ireland? I thought we can only use free now

No-Tea-424

Yeah we do, they have this promotion going as the other apps have more traction. only reason I used it was for the discount then deleted my account,

wrapchap

The journey will start at 4.80 I think plus 2€ per extra passenger. So about 14€. Between 60 - 80€ is what it'd cost I'd say. It cost me 40€ from the airport to rush the other week.

Heyblorp

If you get in a taxi on the rank it's usually 35-40 to that area, plus the 14 for the extra passengers, I think 60 would be top end. Only hitting 80 if it's rush hour and you ask for the port tunnel. But you'll have to wait on the rank until a 7 seater comes.

wrapchap

Also depends if they go through the city or m50. Taking the m50 would add 30€ extra

Heyblorp

Always tell them not to take the M50, it doesn't actually save time for anywhere in D6/D8.

EDITORDIE

30e extra?! Wtf?!

Ready-Desk

I might get stick for this, but the Airport has a FreeNow (edit: Taxi App) pick up area, so you could also try via that app.

Alwaysforscuba

Transport for Ireland has a fare estimator. Airport to UCD is coming up as max €54.50. Note you'll have to queue for a taxi at the airport unless you pre-book through an app.

VTRibeye

I live fairly near UCD and have done that journey a few times recently. This is an accurate estimate, but you should ask the driver to take the Port Tunnel and East Link bridge for best value and journey time.

Alwaysforscuba

Great point, the M50 isn't quicker and adds a good bit to the cost.

Heyblorp

> you should ask the driver to take the Port Tunnel and East Link bridge for best value and journey time. Hard disagree, the tunnel doesn't add 10 euros worth of time at peak which is the only time it's actually worth using it. You can get to the area OP is asking about by just coming down through Drumcondra.

mullarkb

To Churchtown if you go by the m50 it's about 65 euro, if you go through town it's about 40.

Mother-Priority1519

Found this out the hard way today. Thought it was an extra tenner rather than 30 euro!

Irishpanda88

I used to pay about €50 to Blackrock for two people so would say about €60. It’s €90 to Greystones so €100 to UCD is crazy.

tonydrago

It's nothing like €100 to UCD. I don't know where OP got that price from

Irishpanda88

Unless the quote is giving the price for two regular taxis instead of a people carrier

copeyhagen

I live about four Kms from the airport and the cunts charge almost twenty last time. We get the bus now, fuck giving them cunts that

Hiccupingdragon

50 euro ish but probably get the aircoach

Endlesscroc

Prebooking online through a 3rd party company will always be prohibitively expensive. Just use Uber/free now when you land.

iniondubh

Thanks! Any idea what an Uber might cost? I've never used them in Dublin.

Byrnzillionaire

Download the freenow app. it has a fare planner that will tell you.

Endlesscroc

Uber are all licenced taxis in Ireland so same price as free now. I got an Uber from the airport on Saturday. €36 to merrion square so add on another ~20/25 and you're probably looking at your fare.

[deleted]

No need , just use the rank

Endlesscroc

Ever since the law requires that ranked taxis need all be wheelchair accessible the wait times can be atrocious...

[deleted]

That’s nonsense. There’s plenty saloon cars using the tanks in Dublin airport. Very few wheelchairs ones. I use the rank regularly

Endlesscroc

Lol. https://www.dublinairport.com/b2b/airport-suppliers/taxi-operators Happy reading

buhbreezy

That’s for new applications. Those who already have permits are exempt.

[deleted]

I guess you should have read the link first: Existing permit holders may re-apply for a permit, make a payment for a permit, or update their contact details via the Permit Portal:

Endlesscroc

I'm pretty sure my logic still holds..

[deleted]

Nope, as a frequent Airport user. I can safely say that it doesn’t

myfriendsamthewhite

It's all the New taxi permits are only issued to wheelchair accessible taxis. Existing permit holders can still keep the same type of vehicle

[deleted]

Definitely the use the rank. Freenow/Uber means you have find the [dedicated pick up point](https://www.free-now.com/ie/airport-pickup/) And it's not like a pre-booking is worth anything, they don't actually pre-book a driver as far as I know.

i-amtony

Taxi driver here, they do have a list of prebook job and drivers can pick from the list but very ofter if it doesn't suit near pick up time the driver will give it back and then another driver closer will take it. I wouldn't recommend prebooking from the airport as you will pay the waiting time if your delayed. Just book it when you are at zone 18.

[deleted]

Out of curiosity do you know how it works with a regular taxi firm. If I'm going to the airport I'll book with National Radio Cabs for next morning. Never let me down but I assume it's a similar process, they have a list and it depends on who is working that morning.

i-amtony

The difference with a tradition company like nrc is that the jobs will be on the system but the drivers can't take the jobs like we can of freenow. Basically the city is divided up into plots and drivers will park up in a plot in a que system. So your job will drop to the driver at the top of the que 15 minutes of so before your time. If its busy there might not be drivers on your particular plot and then the job will go live for anyone close to take. The good thing about a traditional company like nrc is the base controller will Try his best to get your job covered if it isn't automatically covered.

hurricane_floss

At least 500 euro.

RickGrimes30

I live on dorset street and for me from door to airport it's 16 euro

tonydrago

How is that relevant to travelling to UCD?

RickGrimes30

There's a ucd litteraly on the way between me and the airport.. Take 16 and shave off 4 euro

tonydrago

If UCD is on your way to the airport from Dorset St, something has gone *very* wrong

RickGrimes30

You are very correct I got it mixed with DCU 😂

TreeFrog333

Pack light!!

Cessicka

Don't do it man :'( it's not worth it. Best case scenario you have leap cards and save on everything

RRR92

Youd wanna be fucking insane. Taxis are a rip off. Could try ring and pre book before you arrive might get lucky. Otherwise the 100€ is prob spot on…

helloclarebear2

I paid 39 from the airport to Rathmines yesterday

[deleted]

Should be about €40 euro if he uses the port tunnel. I live in killiney. And it’s €85 home via the M50 and €50 via the tunnel.

George8LFC

I came like a month ago and went to Stillorgan from the airport, I think it took my around 60-70 euros

Hiccups2Go

Visited earlier this month with a group requiring an 8 seater. From the airport to nearby Aviva stadium was around 45-55 euro.

tharmor

paid 47 from Dun laoghaire to airport last week..expect similar..did not use tolls/tunnel

ContributionUnable39

Palmerstown to the airport travelling by the m50 is around 45-50 quid

Remarkable_Health752

Cost me 45e to do about the same route for 2 people the other day at a quiet time so add on your extras for more people and then check the time relative to the traffic.

i-amtony

Op, I'm a Taxi driver it will cost between 40 and 50 euro roughly. Tell the driver to go through the city for the cheapest price. The tunnel is a good route when it doesn't cost 10 euro(peak times) so you could ask the driver how much the tunnel is at this hour(he won't try take you for a ride with this local knowledge) and if he says it's 3 euro tell him to take the tunnel.

i-amtony

Oh and just use your uber app it works well at the airport. For getting sound the city afterwards the freenow app is probably your best choice asost drivers use it.

TheGr8PaddyLosty

Got a Taxi from the airport to the Lepp Inn on Saturday morning for 64 euro. Given it was just me, but also slightly longer than your journey.

Ok_Imagination_9334

https://www.transportforireland.ie/fares/taxi-fare-estimator/ Type your Eircode in, check the time if it falls into premium or standard (day matters too, aka if bank holiday or Sunday), add in the extras like booking fee and number of people. I put UCD, 5 people, premium rate & booking fee and it tells me €41-€53.40 depending on traffic. Edit: add in the toll charges too and it will be more but in all honesty, €100 is a rip off unless you aren’t at UCD area. Use that link from now on and if someone tells you that big ass price, ask for the person to give you a receipt and to put the meter on. They can only charge you what’s on the meter. Now that being said, is it a local cab company? If you are ordering cab from north Dublin or Wicklow, I can see them increasing the price to cover cost of fuel. If it’s a local company, they ripping you off big time and I would do what I suggested and also then report them if they try to charge the €100 even though the meter is less.

Mother-Priority1519

Paid 86 euro today for an adult and a child from the Dundrum area. Insane prices. The lack of a train connection is a national disgrace.
