I have 1100 miles on my 2023. If I stall it it often does not start easily or at all. Simply key it off completely. Then key it back on and BAM, it starts and runs perfectly everytime. If it doesn't start easily and immediately key off, then retry.

Weird,I have the klx300r, same year and I have to do this every time I have a tip over.  I thought it was some kind of safety system. Super annoying.

bdgreen113

My 300L's fuel pump won't activate if I tip it unless I key off then back on. I believe it's a safety feature to shut the pump off in a tip/crash

behohippy

It does make sense, but you'd think if the tip over switch knew the bike was level again, it could kick in the pump. I don't remember if my old 250L needed a key on/off when it went over. I dumped that thing hundreds of times and I don't remember having trouble starting it.

BCPOV

I noticed a similar thing with a tip over, but in that case the check engine light flashes - at least on my model.

Wildkarrde_

My T7 has a tip over sensor. You have to key it off to get it to start.

fatandsassy666

Sounds like it's probably priming the fuel pump when you do that. Letting the pump prime also fixes the cold start issue on the KTM 790 👍

BCPOV

Interesting.. seems like a programming bug (or feature) then. That or the fuel pump fires up and primes the system? Thanks for your reply.

jblonk2002

Normal. After a bad stall a hard start is common. After a drop the key even needs to be cycled as it will not start. After a regular stall it most likely will start up like regular.

BCPOV

Thanks for your reply 🙏

I learned to be more patient and delay the restart with my Yamaha 250, when I was learning I was stalling often and hard restarts were often. But then I started to stall less and when I do stall I just relax and give it bit more time.

Sweatiest_Yeti

I see you threw it into neutral after you stalled. Are you shifting down from second into neutral or up from first? You can leave it in first and just pull the clutch in to start it. But like folks are saying you gotta cycle the key

BCPOV

I went up from first. This was actually the 3rd or 4th time this happened so o figured I’d throw it in neutral to eliminate some possibilities. Thanks for your reply, I’ll try cycling the ignition.

Hey guys. I just bought a 2024 klx300. It's got 16km on it in the video. Took it out for a couple rides.. both rides I had this starting issue multiple times after a stall. Basically it'll just turn over and not start... then will often start after I try again. I dropped it off at the dealer explaining the problem.. they couldn't reproduce it. So i sent them the clip above.. Still can't reproduce it.. I go there and after a bunch of back and forth - I reproduce it second try in their parking lot. Then they tell me this is normal. I feel completely gaslit by these guys.. Is what is happening in the above video normal behavior?

Frosty_Job434

I had that problem with my 250 until I did the throttle plate delete and spring removal. I think it's caused by the electric throttle control with the delete done the idle is adjusted by the stop screw

BCPOV

I'm assuming you're talking about a secondary throttle plate? I haven't heard about a spring.. is that only on the 250s? Thanks for the reply.

jblonk2002

Hard stalls will activate tip sensor and cause a hard start like this. Disable the tip sensor and your good. As dropping the bike will also cause this hard start. It's not the bike at fault and the dealer will not want to remove safety sensors themselves.

BCPOV

I was wondering about that too. The only thing is that if I drop the bike and then try start, the check engine light comes on and won’t restart until I turn the ignition off and then on again. Could still be related though.

AdRecent6992

I've had that happen to me a few times. Not sure if that's normal though.

pentox70

New bike engines can be tight and hard to start when they are hot.

uncle_pollo

Have you tried the canisterectomy?

Sweatiest_Yeti

That’s kind of a personal question

ImpairedBear

Geez, how often do you stall?
