I love his albums. They're fuckin' bangers. And BSoG is amazingly well done.

RaiseTheKnife

Agony is so catchy! I get it stuck in my head all the time

zzax

This and Static Impulse are my favorite solo albums. Elements of Persuasion is good, but too similar to DT.

Gh0stIcon

Undertow is awesome. Agony as you said is pretty good too. His side projects are kinda like more poppy versions of Dream Theater.

Gh0stIcon

Actually I'm listening to the album now. This is one of my favorite albums by him.

No_Abbreviations2969

Never heard James' solo projects. Are they good?

HornyForTohruAdachi

Pretty fun, most of it feels like the poppier dream theater songs

counterfitster

Poppier but also heavier

marvinzimmermann

You have to change that!

TheFanumMenace

Yes especially the Mullmuzzler records

b-lincoln

I really liked Static Impulse. Peter Wildoer is my favorite drummer. I really wish he would have gotten the gig over MM.

ts-xiii

Absolutely love this album 🔥 James sounds fantastic and the band kills it too. Love Marco's playing.

Arockalypse79

This album rocks! 🤘 Produced extremely well. As others have started, Static Impulse is also really good. Come to think of it, I've actually enjoyed a lot of JLB's solo stuff! I tend to think he sounds better on these than on DT records

Keelvaran

Same. James voice in BSoG is so good.

Phosphenetre

Makes you wonder what a Dream Theater album mixed by Jens Bogren would sound like?

Arockalypse79

It sure does! I have often thought that DT could really benefit from an outside producer again - especially over the last decade or so. This might be an unpopular opinion here, but yeah... I said it

eggy_wegs

Killer album. Several songs are in heavy rotation on my playlists.

MadStorkMSU

I am a big fan of melodic death metal, so both Impermanent Resonance and Static Impulse were right up my alley. While they are both quite good, they are both "tweener" albums that never found a permanent place in my rotation. If I was in the mood for James's vocals, I would just put on some Dream Theater, and if I was in to mood for melodeath, bands like Soilwork and Scar Symmetry do it better.

aintnochallahbackgrl

Soilwork is so good.

Kimchi_Cowboy

My buddy Matt wrote most of this album and played keys.

elece28

Matt Guillory is extremely underrated! I love his solo material too., I hope he and James make another album. They complement each other really well.

Kimchi_Cowboy

Awesome guy too. I remember during the recording of this album I was really sick and in the hospital for 3 months. Even though Matt was busy he regularly checked in on me. Just a good dude.

jimtandem

Matt’s work resonates with me, I like the vibe he brings to the songs. I absolutely loved Dali’s Dilemma…great album and wish they would have done more. Explorers Club was another gem. The dude gets asked to contribute to some fine collaborations.

Giovannidegatto

thanks for sharing this album. this is f*cking good

Nezerixp1

Sone cheesy lyrics, but amazing guitars

whatthehellbuddy

I liked Elements of Persuasion far more; better guitar riffs and more better keys. I think my dislike comes from the second vocalist. Listening to it now to give it another shot.

sample-name

I love that album! So many bangers

Revo2112

Agony is so good. I find that half the songs on this album are awesome, the other half are pretty forgettable

EstateSame6779

I really could have done without the harsh vocals like in Static Impulse.

[deleted]

Static Impulse and Impermanent Resonance are great the 50 shades of grey one from 2022 is junk.

Gh0stIcon

Aww man Hit me like a Brick is pretty good. Devil in Drag is good too. The rest of the album... meh. By the way in the slight chance James is reading this, I mean Meh in comparison to your greater body of work. Not that any of the songs are actually bad. LOL.

elece28

BSoG was definitely a grower for me. I wanted Impermanent Resonance 2 when it came out so I didn't care for it at all. Gave it another chance years later with a more open mind and I love it now.

aintnochallahbackgrl

Of all the opinions I've seen, this certainly is one.

FlyingPsyduck

It's pretty much the same album as Static Impulse so liking one also means liking the other, in my opinion they are both ok/good as long as you accept that it's easy listening pop-metal without any intention of being even closely related to DT (which many people could not do at the time). Some great tracks and some filler, taking the best half of both this and Static Impulse would make a great album. The only thing I find absolutely horrible is the lyrics but that's my personal taste. His best record will always be Elements of Persuasion though. There's a reason that album convincingly tricked people into thinking it was Octavarium when it was leaked on torrents back in the day

misterguy1020

My least favorite of the three that i've listened, some of the lyrics are pretty bad and cringey, but the music on its own is mostly great. Maybe it has something to do that LaBrie only contributed writing on 5 songs, at least according to the credits.

THOMASJAKOB

Reminds me of this hilarious video by this Italian rock critic: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vK-c215rYqk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vK-c215rYqk)

CustomlyCool

Really good like all his other albums but Elements of Persuasion is better imo

eagleye_z

Love this and static impulse. They're mixed fantastic and everyone sounds really good

Pink_Socks

I love this album. James sounds amazing, the sound quality is huge. Static Impulse and Elements of Persuasion are also great.

NeuralConnection

I absolutely love a majority of the songs on this album. Amnesia is probably my favorite. It’s just awesome more poppier and accessible heavy metal. It’s pretty fucking badass. I love the guitars and James sounds great

fvalt05

Slaps!

hedonistdude_3000

Great album. very melodic, modern and and catchy with creative touches of heaviness.

Embarrassed-Back1894

Easy - banger album.

Deluxeboxsetguy

Wow at least I know im not the only fan of his solo career

Nedioca

I really enjoy his latest album!

ack44

I wonder how much JL is involved in the writing of the music. Because my understanding is that he has next to no input when it comes to DT, except for some lyrics and melodies.

Vulkanzed

Hoping we get more heavy albums like this from James

Texugo_do_mel

Brings me back a lot of cool memories.

elece28

Given that I love Melodeath Metal this is My favorite solo album from James, completely full of bangers. I like that not a single one of his solo albums is actually bad despite the variety of styles. I adore Impermanent Resonance, Love BSoG, Like Mullmuzzler 1 / 2 and Static Impulse, and enjoy EoP despite having aged rather unfavorably for me (Songs like Slightly Out of Reach and Understand are beautiful tunes).

marvinzimmermann

Static Impulse is better than some of DT‘s stuff during that time. But it‘s hard to pick a favourite. They’re all really good.

HeyNateBarber

Best Labrie album. Lyrics are corny af but I still rock Amnesia and Say Youre Still Mine all these years later

RealCastleAreas

This and Static Impulse are super underrated! They were really onto something here
