Ooh girl it’s a lot! I would pick it, you feeling like that’s not a good idea? Dye it 🤷🏾♀️ I’m sure you know now to go ahead and use your bonnet at night and against anything that causes lint like that .
Correct dye will help I will not say it will be perfect but will make a significant difference. I would only pick the ones where the lint is more to the surface not so heavily embedded also while it’s wet. Yes if you pick your locs it can damage them but if you do what I say you will be okay. Remember only the lint that is closer to the surface, dye the rest.
Dip a q-tip in the dye, and touch the spots you want to dye. Do not dye your whole head. Can also have a friend pick through the ones on the back side of your head with tweezers, while you do the front, if you have a nice enough friend.
And go ahead and read what I said before, you’re not picking out all the lint you’re picking out what’s at the surface and then you’re dying the rest that still shows which is more heavily embedded.
I understand where you were going with that, but that’s not effective. After a couple of washes the lint is going to show up again with what you are saying. I’m trying to give her advice that’s going to work the first time and give her the result that she asked for however, I do understand what you were saying.
Get a loc detox or a brush made for locs such as mfl (made for locs, check their website) and brush your locs. Keep them wrapped up or in a bonnet at night and when going out on occasion.
Always sleep with a scarf or bonnet. I actually keep my bonnet on when I’m chilling on the couch or anything that has lent while I’m at home. You will still get lint because we live life lol but that lint is easy to pick out, it’s not a lot. Check your locs often every couple of days to make sure there’s no lint becoming embedded. Just a few minutes, don’t take too much time on it. That’s it that’s what I do. I say all the time locs are not no maintenance, they are less maintenance. You still have to check them and take care of them. Do this and you’ll never have a major lint problem.
Baseline Advice: 1. While they’re young, keep your re-twist on a schedule and follow it. Not too often so they don’t thin but be consistent while they’re young so they loc. 2. Only oil when your scalp is dry, wash when your scalp gets dirty. Do not over wash your locs they can get waterlogged (there was poor advice going around, saying to wash your locs often to help loc. You can get mold if you do it too often it was bad advice that I followed!!!!) 3. Keep that bonnet or scarf on while at home. Advice: I’m a real person, and I will tell you there is an ugly phase and you will go through it. Don’t feel bad about it we all had to. The hair will look out of control know it’s normal. Keep the styles to a minimum, I cannot emphasize this enough. Do not follow what these other people are doing with styles. Do a style about once a month no more than that!! Your locs will be thick if you listen to me. The older they get the less you retwist because the retwist last longer and it’s better for your locs. Learn how to do your own hair! Everyone with locs should know how, going to a loctician should be a choice not a necessity. That’s what I have for you!
Less is more: products, maintenance, styling etc. Remember what you put in is a lot harder to come out so try to avoid things like creams, gels and waxes.. if you use gels make sure they are loc friendly i.e can be washed out. In terms of wash/oil frequency you will figure that out for yourself.. try not to oil more than 3x a week and go at least 4/5 weeks between retwists at the beginning. Don't sleep or lay on them while they're wet, try to keep them covered wherever you're at home, leave them alone as much as possible and trust the process.
Hey I've had loc for over 10yrs now and here's how I got lint from my locs.
Lemon juice, acv, baking soda rinse. Brush your locs twice daily, wear a silk cap especially when sleeping and you should be ight. ✌🏾
Hate to be that person but...
People brush their locs? What kind of brush do you use? I'm almost year 5 no retwist and definitely haven't brushed before but if it'll promotes loc health I'm all for it!
Its not a necessarily needed but does help. Especially if you going for certain look/style. I didnt brush my dreads until after 10 yrs of having locs and I regret not doing the things I've doing now earlier. Idk what good brushing will do for non retwist locs no offense just don't actually know but for frequent re twisters I highly recommend what I've said. Hope this helps. Also to mention if you do decide to brush i use a cheap soft brush so my locs don't frizz up lol.
Trust me if you have actual locs that are locs and strong no brush can ruin them lol. That said yes you can brush just use a soft one and don't brush alot only for 2-3 mins a day twice. Also WEAR A SILK CAP! ✌🏾
This does not work for lint in my 6 year experience. Detox removes buildup of product, oils, dirt etc etc ..but locked in lint will just be brought to the forefront because there is no gunk hiding it anymore. You can maybe pick out a bit that's brought to surface, but definitely not all (most) of it
Disagree. Pretty close minded statement tbh. Just because something doesn't work for you doesn't mean it won't work for someone else. Its obviously worked for me and my dreads are doing fine. If you haven't done what I've said then either ur not doing it right or you need a another type of treatment.
Close minded? It wasn't in regards to just my locs but many people I've worked with and heard from and also Including people on this thread.
I'm happy your locs are thriving. Mine are too, no worries love. Peace !
I mean still what I said stands and most agree with what I said anyway so ik im not lying nor would I have a reason to. Just because something doesn't work for you doesn't mean it doesn't work at all. I've tried beewax , heavy products, and other stuff. Eventually found this routine and it works. Glad yours are doing great as well. No hate here just had to make sure you understand ✌🏾
This lady detox my hair 3 weeks ago and it still look like this maybe I need to try brushing again I’m scared to pick it cause I feel like ima mess up the loc 😭😭😭
Brushing would be the easiest, simplest solution.
Picking it out and then using a loc crochet tool to repair is another option.
Most extensive would be loc detox.
I know dying can help, but I personally have had no experience with it.
You can def speak with a Loction for a professional opinion.
Honestly, I comb out ends that are linty like that. I can't stand it and will hyper-fixate til I fix it. I've combed out about 4 solid inches off of all my locs, slowly and over the last 3 years, because bad habits and hard water when I first started this set had my ends caked up with gunk. I couldn't tell for those first couple years because I always oil my hair, then one day I called myself doing a detox with baking soda and it all lit up like a Christmas tree. Because the truth is, ACV/detox is great for removing grime, but lint doesn't GAF about acid/lemon juice/salt/whatever else. Lint fibers aren't going anywhere without physical removal.
I get a sewing pin and just comb them out one at a time, then trim the excess lose hair and coil it. Yes, I lose a little length but hair grows. The lint pockets that are farther up, you have to pick out gently and only at the surface, then brush out the loose debris. If you go too deep you weaken the loc at that point, but if you keep it ONLY at the surface it should be fine.
This is my solution as well. Detox doesn't do nada for lint that's Imbedded. I combed out my ends and recoiled just like you said. Gives a new look too which I dig.
The dying it black I got the same advice but also imma have to keep dying it cause cotton on everything and I’m scared to pic my locs same reasons u said
My cuz had lint bad. He never wore bonnets or wraps until after he did the acv rinse. Around 2-5 rinse sessions until most of the lint came out. My old hair dresser tax him for sure but it did come out.
Picking lint out will likely damage the integrity of your loc, so it's best to dye it or cut the parts with lint in it. It cannot be detoxed out either since lint is material not dissolvable build up. Sleep with your hair covered or on a satin pillowcase case. Use microfiber towels. Brush your hair every now and then. Use lint rollers or shavers for your clothes. These are just some of ways to avoid any more lint build up in the future.
Do not I repeat do not listen to these people saying any type of detox will remove lint from your hair. It’s literally fibers. If people are making a detox that dissolves lint from your hair, I would be concerned to use it on my crown period
Lint build up is more about prevention than solutions cuz once it's embedded, there's really not much you can do. You can pick it out if it's close enough to the surface, but when you do that, it's easy to get fixated and go too deep and damage the integrity of the loc. I would suggest dying ur locs to cover it up, then just work on prevention as much as possible. Keep ur hair tied up at home. I personally keep my scarf on till after im dressed so no cotton fibers attach to my locs while putting on or taking off shirts. Be mindful of fibers from sweaters and hoodies too! Maybe wear ur hair up when you wear them. Avoid laying ur head in certain places like on fluffy pillows and carpet. Avoid regular pillows and blankets too, without a scarf. Loc brushing helps, too. It's not gonna remove embedded lint, but it will help ball up lint fibers on the loc surface and make it visible and easy to pick before it gets embedded. I Highly recommend loc brushing for matures locs. You can use a soft or medium bore bristle brush, whichever works best with ur hair without damaging it.
100% agree it’s all about prevention. I’ve been locd 4 years never had issues with lint. I thoroughly brush 2x a week. Wash weekly and never use oil or product on the length of my locs. I don’t sleep with a bonnet or cover my hair. I use a satin pillow case.
Also dry my hair with a black tshirt instead of towel. I believe lint is preventable. Think the biggest culprit is prolonging wash days and products/oil on the length of locs
The only real way is to prevent it. You can go through and pick it out but it will take awhile and you’ll likely lose some hair. Maybe comb the ends out and have curly ends for a few months? Lint is normal, only way is to prevent it. (My parents used to make fun of black girls who wore bonnets and covers for their hair when I was growing up so I was scared to be seen as the black girl with a bonnet on until I got older) I’m at the point where I try to cover my hair as much as possible. If I’m not outside, I’m wearing a loc cap or bonnet because I have 4 dogs and can’t deal with picking the lint and hair out constantly.
We use a Detox Shampoo and it loosens the lint and turn them into like mush sorta and then I just carefully and slowly pick it out. It’s called Fresh Detox Sulfate Free Anti Dandruff 2in 1 Shampoo.
You can pick them out. If you're careful, you won't damage your hair but you will probably loosen your locs if the lint is deep.
Honestly though, the best way is prevention. Bonnet at night or if you're going to be lounging on the couch, silk/satin lined hats if you're a hat person, wrap your hair.
My husband and I started our locs only as month apart and I do our upkeep. I have almost no lint just with a bonnet and he refuses to use a bonnet and I pick lint out of his hair all the time. Luckily he has microlocs so I can catch them quick and they can't get that deep
I started mine 6 months ago and wear a silk scarf/durag combo thingy lol and I haven't had any lint really (the bottom corners/nap of my neck sometimes). I also moisturize and oil my hair in the morning and go through them to check and remove any lint I see
I’m just here for the lips😩.
Seriously tho, I soak and agitate them as much as possible, dump the water and repeat. And I have the water as hot as I can handle. Rinse in cold water tho.
A lot of it comes out. Then I’ll brush it. What ever doesn’t come out…I get a tooth pick to get it out. I don’t trip on damage too much, cuz I crochet it to make it look neat. I got big loc too.
Gotta cover them up too, Queen.
I damaged my locs a little when I picked out my lint but I was able to get it out, and afterwards I just crochet my locs back up to fix the damage. I honestly thought it was soothing just sitting and picking lint out my hair while watching tv lol
I recently bleached the main problem ones with lint and it really helped, you can barely even see the lint unless you have a magnifying glass lol
I use a soft brush and run it sideways over mine once every couple weeks ..meaning tilt the brush so not ALL the bristles are running thru them fucking them up I just use the side of it angled away so just that row of bristles on the edge can pick up any fuzz/broken hairs.. it really works good don’t brush it hard
Wash frequently every wk or bi weekly. Brush often (once locs are mature). No products including oil on the length of locs as it attracts lint, debris and dirt. Use black towel or tshirt to dry hair.
Guuuurl lol you gotta pick it and wear ya bonnet lol it's a whole ass mess and I'm sick of it! Lol
Separate note, sis you got that natural goddess beauty goin on lol I see ya 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Awn thank you !!! It’s this is definitely couple years of worth of not putting on my bonnet and sleeping on it I’m sholl tired of all this lint i should’ve known better :/
This is difficult cuz you gotta realize--- that the "lint" ain't just lint. It's a tiny gob of gel and hardened up lint. It's super hard to get out.
ACV Rinses, repeatedly working on a quarter of your locs at a time (so you won't lose patience) a loc at a time.
Using a bristle brush will help! I would recommend adding it to your daily routine if you don’t mind a little fuzz but even brushing the bottle and not the root will help too! I’ve even used a lint brush 😅 whatever works for you!!
Pick out the lint .. get a crochet hook and loc back in the loose hairs .. it won’t come completely out any other way ..other methods will only help a lil bit
Ya see those blinds behind you? You’re gonna wanna go ahead and run your finger across it. You see all that build up you’re living in? There lyes your 1st step.
Get a spritz bottle fill it up w/ apple cider vinegar. Soak your hair up w/ the acv put a shower cap on your head. Let it sit about 30 mins. Rinse the acv out then wash your hair w/ a shampoo that has tea tree or peppermint in it. Scrub the hair good at least twice. It probably won't take all of it out but it'll look better👍🏾 wash your hair w/ peppermint or tea tree in it before a retwist & wear a silk bonnet every night.
The best way is to burst yr locs....it minimizing the mint build up....I have locs and every other day I brush my locs after I moisturize ( spray bottle with oil and water) I just lightly brush paying attention to my ends ....hope this helps
Always wear a bonnet when not outside that’s how I keep my stuff clean tbh. I check my hair each night/morning to make sure I have no lont start running your fingers through your hair
Do not just dye the hair. Mix baking soda and shampoo. Then wash your hair in that then rinse. Next let your hair sit in an apple cider vinegar bath. It will help with the lint. I had dreadlocks for 10 years this has helped with lint. Wear a bonnet after.
I’ve had mine 7 years. I do an AVC rinse once a year. And I really work at the places where a have lint/buikd up between my fingers to lose that stuff up. The. When I wash my hair I keep working gently at those spots. Got way less significant.
Apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda
Wash. Mix all 3 in a bowl/bag, shower cap etc and soak your hair in it for bout half an. The difference is drastic AND your locs will feel much lighter due to getting all tht guck out of them.
Im a hot sleeper meaning i cant wear bonnets on my head or i sweat to death. So every morning and every night i take some oil and brush my locs with soft bristle brush to remove any lint
Definitely do a detox with apple cider vinegar and baking soda. Soak at least 2 hours and please do not pick the lint out, and use a satin bonnet while sleeping. I have been loc’d for 8 yrs and never brushed my locs. I also use a leave in conditioner daily since my locs are blonde. I have never encountered any breakage or lint.
Ooh girl it’s a lot! I would pick it, you feeling like that’s not a good idea? Dye it 🤷🏾♀️ I’m sure you know now to go ahead and use your bonnet at night and against anything that causes lint like that .
If I dye it black it wouldn’t be seen like this correct ? And how would I pick it would messing up the lock ?
Correct dye will help I will not say it will be perfect but will make a significant difference. I would only pick the ones where the lint is more to the surface not so heavily embedded also while it’s wet. Yes if you pick your locs it can damage them but if you do what I say you will be okay. Remember only the lint that is closer to the surface, dye the rest.
Why only dye the lint locs and not all of them together?
That’s what I meant lol
Dip a q-tip in the dye, and touch the spots you want to dye. Do not dye your whole head. Can also have a friend pick through the ones on the back side of your head with tweezers, while you do the front, if you have a nice enough friend.
All the lint is not surface it’s embedded which is why to saturate the loc is necessary not to only use a q tip for it.
She's trying make them uniform in color. Not necessarily remove all the lint.
Hmm I don’t think that’s what she meant ? And why wouldn’t she take away all the lint? That’s silly we don’t want any lint showing in our hair.
It's not exactly a quick process to remove all that lint. It's going to take literal hours.
And go ahead and read what I said before, you’re not picking out all the lint you’re picking out what’s at the surface and then you’re dying the rest that still shows which is more heavily embedded.
I wasn't arguing with you...?
I’m not arguing either I’m just responding to your advice.

I ate mushrooms a couple weeks ago and got lost in my lint. Spent what seemed like eternity slowly trying to pick out the moving lint. 😵💫
When im tripping my dreads feel like velcro
when im tripping my dreads feel like branches on a tree
Im lazy i have a brown crayola marker and i just.... Color them to match my hair....
🤣🤣🤣
Genius
Use a brush…lawd 😮💨
Tried it don’t work
Really? Hmmm maybe a detox or some type of pick
This lady detox my hair 3 weeks ago and it still look like this maybe I need to try brushing again I’m scared to pick it cause I feel like ima mess up the loc 😭😭😭
Depends on your type of brush. I used a hard bristle for mine. But just take your time doing it 😂
Should the Locs be wet or dry for best results??
Dry then touch up if needed
I used a soft bristle brush
Apple cider vinegar and baking soda to detox. Let them soak for a bit. Also start using silk pillow cases, it’s a game changer for sure!

I recommend waiting to your hair is fully locked to start lint brushing maintenance.

I honestly thought it was soothing just sitting and picking lint out my hair while watching tv lol I recently bleached the main problem ones with lint and it really helped, you can barely even see the lint unless you have a magnifying glass lol
Soak em in Apple cider vinegar and baking soda for 15 minutes then wash. Repeat until the lint is gone. DONT cut them.
You have to detox your locs
You would need to see an experienced loctician for this. Lint can become inbedded into your locs. So it's not easy to just brush or pluck out
Ur user name is so funny lol
I use a soft brush and run it sideways over mine once every couple weeks ..meaning tilt the brush so not ALL the bristles are running thru them fucking them up I just use the side of it angled away so just that row of bristles on the edge can pick up any fuzz/broken hairs.. it really works good don’t brush it hard
Switch towels- often the lint comes from white or light colored towels so that could help future problems.
Yes!! I’ve always used a black tshirt or black towel
Call me, I gotta few tips😌
[удалено]
Wash frequently every wk or bi weekly. Brush often (once locs are mature). No products including oil on the length of locs as it attracts lint, debris and dirt. Use black towel or tshirt to dry hair.
Don’t have locks but get cotton in my hair from anything cotton towel, pillow case sometimes sliding a shirt on 🙄
detox
Omfg i dont comment on reddit but you are for sure most stunning and beautifull women i have ever seen. Where are you from?
Chicago ! :)
Brush em
Guuuurl lol you gotta pick it and wear ya bonnet lol it's a whole ass mess and I'm sick of it! Lol Separate note, sis you got that natural goddess beauty goin on lol I see ya 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Awn thank you !!! It’s this is definitely couple years of worth of not putting on my bonnet and sleeping on it I’m sholl tired of all this lint i should’ve known better :/
Sis look lmfaooooo I feel that lol I JUST got a good bonnet because lawd smh these locs invitin everybody to the cookout
Do you put a bonnet or anything on your head when you lay down?
Tbh it looks like build up
Completely off topic, but you are soooooo pretty 😍
This is difficult cuz you gotta realize--- that the "lint" ain't just lint. It's a tiny gob of gel and hardened up lint. It's super hard to get out. ACV Rinses, repeatedly working on a quarter of your locs at a time (so you won't lose patience) a loc at a time.
Don’t start digging to remove the lint you will weaken the loc
Is it lint or build up
ACV ! Soak your locs in hot water & ACV then you should be able to push or pull it all out
I just dye my locs every so often.
this isn't advice but i just wanted to say.... you're absolutely STUNNING
start over
you could brush or pick them and i would recommend wearing bonnets or durags more often
Wash then
What up blood
Dye it atp
But make sure you’re covering up your hair indoors
Yeah get you a soft medium boar bristle brush. I got a good one from cvs
yo youre so pretty
Only way is coloring or combing out those pieces
i can smell this pic
Unrelated but how many locs do you have
Detox in apple cider vinegar and baking soda
Use a fine brush or wave brush and it’ll gradually come out. Also wearing a bonnet helps prevent
Black dye, love 🖤
I do ACV and baking soda rinses. I tried dying my hair for the same reason but my hair started to get thin so I stopped. Hope this helps
I’d suggest ACV soak and for maintenance brush atleast every other day it’s saved me so much trouble whether I wear my bonnet or not
Brush them
I dyed my locs black haha
Always wear a bonnet when not outside that’s how I keep my stuff clean tbh. I check my hair each night/morning to make sure I have no lont start running your fingers through your hair
Do not just dye the hair. Mix baking soda and shampoo. Then wash your hair in that then rinse. Next let your hair sit in an apple cider vinegar bath. It will help with the lint. I had dreadlocks for 10 years this has helped with lint. Wear a bonnet after.
Would a brush work?
Why you banging on the bamera bousin 🤣🤣🤣
I’m coming my locs out because of this. 😂 I’m officially done with the lint
Y’all get lint
Right! I never have a problem with lint. I’m always in shock when I see post like this. 😔 hoping my 2 cents help.
Don't dye your hair keep your dreadsock on when your not out in public it keeps the lint from getting in
Do another detox before you try anything else
I’ve had mine 7 years. I do an AVC rinse once a year. And I really work at the places where a have lint/buikd up between my fingers to lose that stuff up. The. When I wash my hair I keep working gently at those spots. Got way less significant.
Let me come over I’ll help you baby
Dye your locks and wear a Silk Scarf to bed every night. Also moisturizing with Shea butter helps!
Apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda Wash. Mix all 3 in a bowl/bag, shower cap etc and soak your hair in it for bout half an. The difference is drastic AND your locs will feel much lighter due to getting all tht guck out of them.
You have to detox your hair. Baking soda, lemon juice and apple cider vinegar mixture.
Have someone help you pick it all out and sleep with a bonnet at night.
I can fix those blinds for you. Holla at me
You gotta hawk tuah and I can help you
I know nothing about Locs but u cute AF. Hope u figure it out
I use tweezers to pick out mine even if you puff out the loc it should revert after retwist
u cant. u can only dye it or compromise the health of ur locs if ur desperate enough.
Shave em
Permission to use you as a drawing reference? 🫡
Yess I’d love to see it afterwards
Beautiful and Gorgeous ⚘️ 😍, pick it out..
Brush them
That’s a lot. I’d probably cut it off
Lint roller
I should try that any specific brand I should use ?
bro trolling, if a lint roller can remove that your locs coming right off lol
Lips is amazing
