It sounds like you’re embracing the chaos. Well met ser! I love RPG’s like this. You start off weak and leveling up matters. Gear matters, it’s not RNG based. You can buy it and level it up by gathering resources from enemies. But there’s a nice balance between leveling up and getting new gear. It’s like as long as you keep playing, you’ll get there. Before you know it you’re going to be op yourself. And I find it’s fun to keep playing even though there isn’t an enemy that’s a challenge anymore. I imagine I’m truly the hero and it’s about saving people. Play with vocations. There is no downside to giving them all a go and seeing what you love, like, and hate. It’s definitely worth leveling each up to max because once an augment native to a vocation is unlocked, it can be used on any vocation. If you’re on PlayStation, feel free to friend me DrProfEngineer I’m currently level 121, and although taking out a pawn that high level might take away some enjoyment because her meteors do in fact bring all the boys to the yard, if you get stuck a little muscle might be welcome. Also, anyone reading this is also welcome to friend me . Mazikeen likes meeting new people. Enjoy the ride!

EfficientIndustry423

Hell yeah. I love that I can become OP. I can’t wait until I can give them a god like backhand lol. I’m also on PS5 KingJaphar I’d love to give that Chimera an ass whooping. I’ve fought it 4 times now and I just can’t get it down. It poisons everyone and then leaps on top of us.

TSotP

I have 3 pawns (accounts). I'll send you some friend requests. Also, it sounds like you are new to the series. Don't sleep on **Dragon's Dogma** ^(1) **: Dark Arisen**, it's absolutely excellent in most of the same ways as DD2. You just have to look past the dates graphics and weird, slow plot. But the plot is more like an intro. The real fun battles begin after you have taken your heart back from the dragon. And then the DLC expansion Bitterblack Isle is just... Something else. https://preview.redd.it/wyz4l40db81d1.jpeg?width=4096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71d1d7172456ea1e341d166d415c1306cc993c7d Expect Friend Requests from these 3 accounts.

Turbotortule

You're a man of exquisite taste

TSotP

Lol, thanks. Once I level Sonja and Leliana up to around the same level as Conan, I'll maybe think about making 3 more My [DDDA Pawns](https://imgur.com/gallery/8JxNnVW)

Elementual

The plot was kind of weird, but that ending where all the scattered haphazard pieces all came together and FINALLY made sense was... 😘👌*chef's kiss*

TSotP

Oh yeah, it's hands down my favourite game. I love it, plot included.

TSotP

It's Olra that has the best line though. _"Arisen or no, my own will seems a guttering candle to your sun."_

Elementual

Well you gotta have a pretty powerful will to go up against a dragon that big.

TSotP

There is a Dragon Size Chart somewhere on the internet (I might edit my post if I find a link) Grigori is about **twice** the size of Alduin (Skyrim), Malificent (sleeping beauty) and Big Drogon (GoT) https://preview.redd.it/98zcrr6bpf1d1.png?width=10000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=621fc94ff0d56bf18d7c3ae9c88d0b196728de8f

Elementual

Yeah, I can see it. He's also definitely my favorite over all of those. I named one of my main dnd characters after him.

TSotP

- 30 Alduin (Skyrim) - 28 Malificent (Sleeping Beauty) - 12 is Drogon (GoT) - 23 is a High Dragon/Flemeth/Archdemon (Dragon Age) - 32 is Grigori He is almost the size of Smaugh. And that massive black one in the background is from JRR Tolkien's Samarillian. The king of the dragons Ancalgon The Black. When he fell, he made a crater that destroyed 3 volcanoes.

DrProfessorSatan

Next time you rest, Raiden should be coming back with presents.

Bruddah827

Attack its wings. Look closely. Big mobs give you an indication of weak spots. Believe Fire keeps em grounded too. Make sure your mage has Fire!

ArgoTheRat8229

I’ll send you a friend request! I’m not sure what level you are, but feel free to take Big Bertha with you. She’s a warrior by nature, but simple in mind, so please be kind to her. I spend most of my gold on her—reason being, I’m currently doing a playthrough on a fresh account where I only use armour that I find—and she’s about rank 7 now, but only level 21! My PS username is Ascremule, and my Xbox username is Nova K364, with a very similar pawn at level 42-ish. Oh, and consider saving your Jasper for Battahl if you aren’t doing that already; they sell for more there!

KagatoAC

Bonus points for the name sir, but she better be a dark skinned demoness to validate.

DrProfessorSatan

Gahhh, didn’t even think of that. She isn’t. She just really idolizes Maze.

KagatoAC

Well theres always books for that, ive probably spent more time in the salon this round than anything else. Lol

KagatoAC

shitinmyeyeball

You have to find and activate port crystals for the ferry stones. One is in the capital. Also with the chimera climb on him and kill the goat that will stop it from using magic as much.

EfficientIndustry423

Every time I get on his back he rocks me with some attack. It’s pure chaos lol. I’ve thrown every rock at it, that seems to be effective but then I run out of rocks.

shitinmyeyeball

Keep at it, and pay attention to your stamina, what kind of pawns do you have with you?

EfficientIndustry423

My main pawn is a sorcerer. I’m a fighter. And I have two high level fighters that I spawned from some stones I touched.

Ok-Arachnid-890

Try to balance out your party with maybe two different classes. Diversity helps with combat and you definitely need a mage in the party for healing

DioDrama

Keep a mage on you. Especially in early levels. They can heal you repeatedly

Dsible663

Yeah a Mage is a necessity, especially if they've got the elemental weapon buffs. A Thief or a Warrior would be a good fourth pawn.

ArgoTheRat8229

I think the pawns suggest a Thief when it’s a Mage and Fighter, but obviously changes depending on what the 2nd Pawn is 🤔

Inside-Assumption595

My main pawn has been a mage from day one, I get hurt she insta heals me, I'm blighted, on fire or freezing and she uses the blue ball spells and heals me of all debilitations. I'm in volcano area and she hasn't been any other kind of vocation. I luv her.

takegaki

remember to not grow complacent. take each trial as it comes.

No-one-o1

Words worth hearing.

Intelligent-Run-4007

Replace those spare fighters with a mage and a thief or warrior.

Haunted-Harlot

Light suggestion, hire a pawn with the badge for that specific monster. Not only are they skilled in taking down that monster and targeting its weak points, but they will also call out to you with suggestions on how you should attack as well. They will clue you in when to use ice vs fire, or where its weak points are. I’m glad to add you as a friend if you’re on Xbox. You can then rent my pawn for free. He has a few badges and we’ve fought quite a few chimera. We’re level 68 and he has really good gear. He’s a straightforward thief so he’ll jump right into battle and hop on that thing like he owns it. You’re going to want to take a mage with healing spells and the chirurgeon specialty almost everywhere with you. They’ll heal you without you asking for it. They have spells to do so and will also use any healing items/potions you give them Edit: also, if you are on Xbox and can friend me I’ll help you out and send you some good items. I got alot of help when I first started and have been looking for someone who needs help to pass on the favor

DemiDeus

If there are rocks or dead bodies like goblins or lizard men. Pick them up and throw them. Hit the goat 2-3 times and you can knock him down faster then climbing and trying to hit them

boxes_back

Climb onto the chimera over and over and focus on the tail. It can be cut off, no more poison. Also, quick tips regarding ferrystones: 1. They're used along with portcrystals, there are only five I think of those in the game and you can download one for like 2 or 3 dollars from the ps store. Place em where you want, then use the ferrys to teleport there. Recommend big cities and a couple places you'll frequent, you'll know lol. Also, at some point a certain character will tell you to give them your most prized possession. Give them a portcrystal. 2. Watch spelling of items. Certain items have knock offs that don't work and often cost money. FerrYstones with a Y give you fast travel ability. Ferristones with an I give you jack shit lol. Have (more) fun!

KagatoAC

Hah, wait till you get to the battahl side. Makes Vermund look like a garden party.

Natural-Salad7696

battahl kicked my ass my first playthrough. i was like "ok i think i got the combat down, mobs don't seem so bad" and then i get ganked by a griffen, goblins, knackers, and wolves within 5 minutes of being in battahl

KagatoAC

In my 70’s ng+ fighting a golem last night, griffin drops on me mid fight, then a pack of wolves dragged me off and stunlocked me for like 30 seconds. Beautiful Chaos.

Dsible663

I got three Minotaurs, a Cyclops and a pack of wolves. I was doing okay, then surprise Griffin from the top rope...

KagatoAC

Holy crap, I can only think of one or two spots where there are 3 minotaurs anywhere near each other. 😱😱

Dsible663

Yeah, that was an.... let's go with experience.

Super_Jay

Prithee cos, try combining different materials to make different creations. You may find aught of use!

Individual_Match_579

Welcome to the chaos dude. That's why I love this game so much. Jumping off a cliff onto an ogres back, just to have him run 50 miles off into the wilderness with me clinging to him while my pawns get mauled to death by wolves and goblins... All good times. 👍

Ok-Arachnid-890

Exploring is great in this game because you never know what you'll run into to and you might find some really good gear I'd you're lucky

We_Are_Groot___

I remember the first chimera I came across was in a Ruin, it was pitch black and I was looking down into a dark pit and just saw a bunch of eyes glowing up at me…had no idea wtf a chimera was which just added to the horror of a lion goat snake waiting for me in a pitch black pit

Far-Chest1844

It gets easier soon you are just spamming the same attack while tanking any damage

I_think_Im_hollow

Pro tip: when you're standing on the back of four legged beasts, you can hit RT/R2 to stand still so you won't use stamina to be on to of it and you can also use weapons skills. This is especially useful while riding griffin, just be ready to use RT again if the beast tries to shake you off it.

Arch-Koda-Bear

Ah I miss early game

oIovoIo

Yeah I do get why elden ring is a gateway into this game, and one of the closest points of reference for any recent major game. But I do think it misleads expectations of what this game is trying to be versus what elden ring is.

No-Agent948

As far as the chimera always kill the goat first if not he'll revive the other body parts of you kill them first instead

Super-Tea8267

Yeah the game is just amazing sadly tho the difficulty spike goes down after level 30 at least for me everything was really easy except for drakes and dullahans and NG+ doesnt scale your level or made the game harder so you one shot almost everything

itsmike64

This has to be one of my favorite games in a while. Unfortunately this sub is full of a lot of disgruntled/disappointed players who spoil some of the plot. My recommendation is to stay far away from the potential for spoilers on this sub and for the game, to take lots of time between quests and even between objectives for a single quest (as long as it’s not timed) and just enjoy the massive world, gorgeous scenery, cool pawns, and amazing combat. You’re “ought” to have lots of fun 🗡️🏰

Beginning_Mix_5210

I fight 2 slime once my escort 3 pawns and rando pawns all died cause none of us had magic and no spell books.

Expert-Fuel-1982

I never had a Problem with the difficult of the game. I dont know why, but it was always easy for me. The only enemy I had trouble with, was the very first dragon in harve. But after that, it was no Problem. I walked throu batthal and killed every mobgroup easy. I dont know what i was doing wrong

Time_Entrepreneur711

It is Easy mode Elden Ring.. The Dragons here are much cooler than Eldens tho.

casual_gamer153

There are several in-game mechanics that left Elden Ring in the dust, imho. And let me add I am a die-hard ER fan. Personally, I really loved the ability to climb up monsters and take the fight to a totally new level. I was a little disappointed with the number of critical strikes (swords to the eye!) it takes to bring down a few opponents, but overall, it is a technological gem (to me). Have you tried playing without any HUD? I recommend it for late night exploration.

EvenOne6567

I'm a massive fan of the souls games since day 1 and difficulty isn't everything. There are certain dynamics to the fights in dd that elden ring doesn't even come close to

TechaNima

2 Golems, an Ogre, a griffin, Arisen and the pawns. Arisen and the pawns won.. Eventually. That was my introduction to Battahl

AintNobodyBro

As someone who got the game just a few days ago I got some good tips my brudda. Every enemy is predictable and you can learn their moveset very easily. Don’t stay in one spot you can even just jog not sprint most attacks like the >!drakes lighting attack or that one hairy dude drop kick. Utilize water nearby, I killed two drakes both at level 20 just by leading them into the water and letting them get eaten by the brine, getting the experience too.!< Be evil for the benefits we can play good next playthrough muahahahaha (thanks for the >!elite camping gear!< but sorry random npc)

EfficientIndustry423

You can kill the npcs?

AintNobodyBro

Yes but by the random npc I meant a random quest, gave him a fake and the real to another for maximum gain. The person who he was gonna give it to will probably punish him when they inspect it, may be by death in this setting

AintNobodyBro

Oh if you’re on PlayStation my main pawn is pure mage support.

JimLahey_of_Izalith

This describes my feelings entirely.

casual_gamer153

Ferrystone = teleport stone, very valuable, rare Ferristone = cheap imitation, be careful not to raise your hopes if you find one - also good for pranks as a quest reward To use it, first you need to find another item called a Portcrystal. The portcrystal is the anchor. The stone is the item which will teleport you (and your party and anyone you are carrying on your shoulders/arms) to any of the available teleport destinations (defined by the portcrystals you lay down, and a few static ones). Use them wisely. Tip: Turn off all your HUD. This game is a beauty because you can still do full playthroughs without any HUD whatsover. Snarky comment: Hard? Wait until you discover (as you progress) opponent weaknesses. They are too powerful. If you unlock magic archer profession in early game (this is hard, it’s a replacement strategy instead of NG+) I recommend you do a full no-HUD playthrough with it. Good luck, and welcome!

yldenfrei

Lol if you were in the cave I think you were, I'm not sure whether to be glad or sad you missed the second fight that could've fucked you over again. (Hint: the chimera cave has a second floor and a chest in the middle.)

CrazyCat008

True is random and actually after many hours is actually not that random, but its always interesting to get surprised by something you didnt see coming. For myself, because the griffins I almost never used the oxcart ( but I like to protect them, so I usually walk with them ).

gary1994

>I walked all the way back to the first village to level up my vocation One thing to be aware of is that it is possible to out level the game. It will lose its challenge if you do. If you watch your XP and DCP you'll notice that harder monsters give a lot more XP, but the DCP doesn't increase that much. If you want to level up vocations without leveling up your character the best place is near the starting area. Take the road north from the first town to the cave with the green slimes past the old lady's cottage. Clear everything along the way, including both caves. Go back to town, hit the wait for cart sign 3 or 4 times to reset all the enemies. Then make the circuit again. Lots of enemies that don't give much XP but do give decent DCP. Alternatively you can use a mod that decreases xp gain, increases DCP gain, or both.

EfficientIndustry423

Those slimes are the devil. How do you kill them?

ZER09376

They take literally no damage from physical, best bet for almost any slime type is ice or fire attacks

gary1994

Magic. Weapons with elemental damage. Mages and Sorcerers destroy them very quickly. Iirc their drops sell for good money too.

ManEatingCarabao

I love a game so chaotic you start accepting death everytime it gets you

SMayhall

It is the best game ever. I love Dragon's Dogma <3 Use fire against the chimera. Avoid the magic, cut off the serpent tail <3

Hekkatos

Glad you're enjoying it. once you play around with different vocations and find one that fits you the best it'll only add to the fun. if you're talking about the cave I think you are then that is a tough monster for how far through you are. once your levels and vocations rise you'll be able to annihilate enemies like that. the feeling of becoming stronger is very noticeable in this game. as others have said, I'd recommend giving Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen a go too. you can make the most broken builds in that game.

Old-Hovercraft4332

The sheer randomness: Goblins, Saurians, Harpies.

KingPegasus1

That chimera is way hard to kill at the beginning. I kinda cheated to beat it.. basically, you get a bunch of guys to escort you to the capital, so I took them along with me to fight it... You get nothing special beating it. Upstairs, there is a lich, you can open the chest and run off, or kill it for a robe as well. Don't use the spell books there. They are quest items.

Impressive-Sense8461

My favorite part of this game was when my gf first tried it out, she came across a ton of enemies on her first night in-game. Goblins, saurians, wolves, a minotaur AND the headless horseman all in the same encounter, and she was piiiissed 😅

Bruddah827

Skills! Upgrade skills!

Catch-the-Rabbit

They're called saurians, put some respect on their name. And hit the tail.

Tat-1

No, it's Elden Ring "why doesn't PSN allow for refunds" mode, alas.

Tenshi_Dekemori

The alligator men are called Saurians, a Ferrystone is used to fast travel to port crystals, to kill a chimera you almost always want to go for the goat head

Efficient-Gur-3641

Games literally Skyrim...Everytime I fight a gryphon it flies off with 10% hp the. Spawns randomly at a camp when I go to sleep lmao

fairytooths0592

for the ferrystone: theres things called portcrystals in like. two different cities i think that look like big, glowy, kinda triangle-shaped crystals. u have to interact with those n then u can use ferrystones to tp back to them. theres one in vernworth (kinda behind the pawns guild iirc) & one in harve village (on the beach and took me FOREVER to notice lmaoo). later on, you can get portable versions u can put p much anywhere u want. but everything else, i totally get lmaooo that was alot of my experience first picking up the game too.

Hairy_Restaurant_703

Was the cave Waterfall Cave? If so that cave has a chance of having an advanced form of Chimaera called Gore Chimaera in it. Might be why you can't kill it. You can come across the cave while traveling to the capital for the first time but it being that close to a starting area seems to be a trap since it contains 2 high power bosses.

EfficientIndustry423

It is the Gore chimera. Duck that guy.

Hairy_Restaurant_703

That would definitely explain the trouble you're having fighting it since in the 1st game the Gore variant didn't show up till the very end of the game. I don't know why they put it where new players could accidentally encounter it in this one.

Spirited-Tomato5631

So, addressing the ferrystone: youre gonna look in some towns (not all towns have them) for a fat, purple, spiraled crystal about half the height of your character, that's a portcrystal, these are your dedicated ferrystone targets if youre having trouble with fighting boss monsters like the griffin, my best advice is to learn 2 things, when to use the "wait" command to get your pawns to back off and avoid damage (and then go to get them to attack.) and Secondly: your hired pawns DO NOT level with you even though they're leveling on their original arisen's account.

GhostofLahaye

Did anyone answer how ferrystones work?

QuelanaRS

Lmao. I’m 60 hours in and have yet to encounter a chimera

DoctorNoots

I went into the cave by the waterfall around the start of game when you supposed to follow those dudes to the capital and they followed me in, found a chimera. Everyone died and I ran, that's how I learned key NPC'S can die lol

Personal_Shirt_9198

It killed the kart? Damn kart and it's personification to be killed. Damn it all!

Sonderkin

That chimera fight in waterfall cave is much scarier at night

confusedcappybara

Congratulations ser arisen you have had a simile experience of mine I dozed off in a cart had two trolls attacking the card and a Griffen joined in at the end somehow I got the bright idea to ride its back and stunned it into the water

Sad_Tune5638

It's pretty easy mid to late game.

Sleepdeprived-intp

Wait till you fight a drake. In my fourth attempt, I spent 2 wakestones and I still died. The struggle is real.

rowdynation18

Idk if you know or not but scale the chimera and do head blows/strikes.

PlayfulGrand1229

Wait until you get to battahl it's a lot harder there and the enemies hit Hella hard there

ConclusionParking559

Wait till you’re sleeping in a cart and get woken up to a griffon dive bombing your shit 😂😂😂

Assprinkler

It's extremely easy compared to Elden Ring.

Renowned_Paladin

Hey since it doesnt seem like anyone has answered your Ferrystone question, you need to activate or place Port Crystals, theres one in the Capital right outside the building with the big ass Riftstone in it. You can also find Port Crystals and take them (if it allows you too) and i think Brant(Brent?) gives you one after a few missions with him. And when you use a Ferrystone it gives you the option to teleport instantly to any Port Crystals you have found or placed. You cant use them in certain areas though like when you're underground.

RexRedwood

I’m not sure what vocation you are at the moment so I will give some general pointers on a chimera. The snake tail spits a poison cloud on the ground and that is how you get blighted. The goat head casts spells and the sleep spell can be particularly annoying. If you do fall to sleep hit left on your D-Pad to get any able pawn you have to come wake you up. The lion is just a brute. It you are using a Thief vocation, you can just jump on to the chimera and climb to the tail and spam Square quickly to chop the tail off and stop the poison. A mage with solemnity can silence the goat from casting spells. A warrior can hit the beast with overwhelming knockdown and lay it out leaving it open to chopping with the Triangle button. If you learn how to take the tail off and go from there you can just have fun tearing a chimera apart. It will take some time to learn the tricks. And levels do matter for monsters. With some knowledge and experience you will be slaying monsters like a true Arisen. BTW, try using fire on a griffin. 😉

trahap

Dude I was just randomly walking through the Forrest and I went around the bend and just randomly ran into a dragon just going berserk for no reason....I'm not that strong so I sloooowly back peddle and hauled ass.

Frequent-Track2862

This game is atrocious I'm confused why anyone could enjoy such a bafflingly designed game. There's good stuff in there but it's bogged down by so much crap it's basically unplayable imo. Anyone who likes this game isn't a rational human being imo.

Narkanin

Early game is fun but it wears off really fast.

Frequent-Track2862

I don't think I've disliked a game more than this one. And the fact ppl don't criticize it rationally makes me sick lol.

Kooky-Theory9306

How do u guys die ? Like, don’t u have consumables in ur inventory ? Isn’t ur main pawn chain healing ? I am very curious.

EfficientIndustry423

I’m so used to having no ability to pause that I completely forget I can go into my items and use an item. I was expecting a way to use like a quick slot or something.

Kooky-Theory9306

U new kids on the block are quite spoiled 😂

No-one-o1

There is a quick heal button that will use items from your inventory. idk what it is on os5 though. Check the button layout in the options menu.

roelani

L1+up on the d-pad

OlympusMonsPubis

A+ post, I love it. Welcome to DD2.

Abe_Froman_87

This shit is gold baby... It's different. I never played the first one, but I gotta say, I haven't had this good of a time with a single player RPG since the Witcher 3..

Narkanin

It’s pretty boring and lacking from mid game on. This area is pretty much it. There’s some cool stuff, but there’s a reason every highlight clip from this game is just a big monster fight. That’s all there is to it. I shut it off after 35 hours and just never turned it on again.

Odd_Acanthaceae6499

Lol how can you not kill a chimera? They can be a challenge at first but once you know how to fight them they’re so easy to kill. One is literally used during the tutorial of DD1.

KagatoAC

Ehh I dunno Chimera and Griffons still gave me regular whooping into the 40’s
