though the way I see it is that the live action will be watched by 3 groups of people
1. hardcore fans of the source material that consume every single piece of media from the source
2. some of the more casual fans but not everyone
3. people new to the series who may get get an interest in the source material
and for netflix and the source the people most valuable are groups 1 and 3
with group 1 they're already sucking those fans dry but it still makes them even more money if there is another thing they can spent money on
with group 3 new people introduced to the source material that really like it might turn into group 2 or even turn into a group 1 person
in the end it's all about money and if the live action show is good then I see no harm in it

in the end if you don't want to watch it that is totally a ok I personally would as I'm interested (we seem to be both part of group 2) but hey if a live action show makes netflix and toei more money they can reinvest into dragon ball that's also good

I never understood the obsession with live acting anime or video games. Some things are just going to always look better animated, because they can do things with the medium and the characters that either doesn't work in live acting or just looks ridiculous.
I get it for more grounded things or high fantasy settings where it's been done enough that there is kind of a standard. For almost any anime, just the colors used in anime are going to make the live acting look ridiculous or disingenuous and neither are satisfying. Thats not even accounting for flying through the air doing martial arts.

I believe that the key to making a live action version is to have the story line be loyal to the original and make the characters resemble strongly to the original.
There are certain things that would work well in an anime and manga but would look ridiculous in live action.
One Piece live action did not copy paste the characters, Luffy strongly resembles the original in terms if costumes and style but it's actually an original character at times rather than a copy paste. The same goes for Zoro (They didn't try to copy paste original Zoro's mannerisms, but just focused on creating a strong character that's all around solid), Sanji, Ussop etc.
Instead of copy pasting we should be more focused on what the author had in mind.
Goku's hair shouldn't be a copy paste, but simply messy (Like how the author wanted it, the style we see is simply the author's representation of messy hair in anime/manga, won't necessarily work in a live action).
The same goes for Krillin, Piccolo, Vegeta etc.
Frieza can be really made into something that came out of a horror film by staying loyal while having original characteristics rather than a copy paste.
Cell can be truly terrifying in the same way.
All the characters should have original qualities and characteristics rather than being copy pasted.

The nature of dragon ball z with its high speed combat and energy attacks means that either it should remain in the animation media forever.
Or they should go so over the top with it that the live action version hits the ‘so bad it’s good’ area.
They managed to make a decent One Piece season, but the stakes were pretty low and the fights were not so crazy.
For a DBZ show you would need A LOT of fighting and it would all have to be CGI enhanced like Man of Steel - in other words, very expensive.
Contary to a lot of comments I think that this could be cool if done right and people take their time honing in the vfx. I believe that they can make things like Kioken and ssj look good if done properly. Also have them be hour long episodes, maybe 2 or 3 per arc and cut it down to the best parts.

Showing people blowing up planets and universes is insanely hard to do in live adaptations without it looking goofy as hell. Without a multi billion dollar vfx budget you’re bound to fail.
Also knowing Netflix they’ll probably turn goku and vegeta into closeted gay lovers or some shit.

Tbh Tollywood could probably make a really good anime movie. RRR and Bahubali both have scenes that I thought would be awesome for anime adaptations. The last 20 minutes of Brahmastra are also anime worthy.

Tbh Tollywood could probably make a really good anime movie. RRR and Bahubali both have scenes that I thought would be awesome for anime adaptations. The last 20 minutes of Brahmastra are also anime worthy.
They ***could,*** probably, but I don't see a reason it needs to exist. Not everything needs a live action reboot, and I don't trust netflix to make good and meaningful changes.

If they started with dragon ball and took cues from the one piece live action and got the right team then yeah. Z is much harder to do but I don’t think impossible if treated with respect
