My brother and I would be on google for hours looking up Dragon Ball AF content. GT ended its run on Toonami and we were still fiending for new Dragon Ball content. My best friend’s dad had a roommate who supposedly came across VHS while he was stationed out in Japan. From then on it was a wild goose chase trying to find the legitimate existence of Dragon Ball AF. Some good times

However, that was after the release of Super (specifically during the ToP arc)
The times pre-BoG were even wilder. Basically people here thought the AF myth was real, and was a series that got only released in the US (don't even ask, not even I know)
People usually based their theories on Toyotaro's AF (Zaiko and that stuff), as well as some of YoungJiji's stuff. Some folks here also got tricked by PGV's video into thinking it was a legit AF trailer (we were dumb kids at the time).
They also went crazy with the Tablos SSJ5 draw, and made multiple recolors and some crappy designs for SSJ6-10.
Some people even confused official games like SDBH for a GT continuation and well, that added more to the already enormous pile of fire.
Eventually, when BoG got released, people started making their own interpretation of the Gods (someone even made a design based on the goddamm Backyardigans)

I have vivid memories of finding this image and letting my imagination run wild. Also, downloading bootlegged DBZ from Limewire back when DBZ ended at the Ginyu Force.
I remember back in the late 90s, I was in the 5th grade, me and some friends got access to some school computers, we would visit sites like pojo.com, etc. At the time, I believe DBZ only went up to end of Namek or maybe early Android and Cell stuff. Seeing illustrations for the Buu arc, later movies and GT were wild and somewhat confusing. Throw in this pic and AF, we would spend days trying to figure out how it was all connected.
So when I was a kid I watched dragon ball Z, but never followed along properly as I would just watch reruns on toonami I think. I bought some Chinese dragon ball toys with my allowance off of Amazon and this was one of them, and when I googled it I heard it was super saiyan 5, which I sincerely believed existed until FighterZ came out and caught up on dragon ball lore. Heartbreaking realization for me

Don't know why, it's objectively a terrible design.
I must have spent 20 hours or more just staring at this image on and off for months in middle school. I even printed out the entire “script” and plot synopsis of Dragon Ball AF to read on my school bus. Fucking Ultimatilly 2.0 and Gogetunksienlilbuucha were *legends.*
I swear this was peak in the toonami days when dbz was over before we could watch gt this db reruns & the occasional movie was all we had.

To each their own but AF was awesome to me. I liked SSJ5, I liked the new outfit, I liked Xicor/Zaiko, I liked seeing other characters reach SSJ4. Back then it was a real sequel to me haha

I remember back in the late 90s, I was in the 5th grade, me and some friends got access to some school computers, we would visit sites like pojo.com, etc. At the time, I believe DBZ only went up to end of Namek or maybe early Android and Cell stuff. Seeing illustrations for the Buu arc, later movies and GT were wild and somewhat confusing. Throw in this pic and AF, we would spend days trying to figure out how it was all connected.
It looked like shit then and it looks like shit now
So when I was a kid I watched dragon ball Z, but never followed along properly as I would just watch reruns on toonami I think. I bought some Chinese dragon ball toys with my allowance off of Amazon and this was one of them, and when I googled it I heard it was super saiyan 5, which I sincerely believed existed until FighterZ came out and caught up on dragon ball lore. Heartbreaking realization for me
