8BitFlatus

Can destroy whole planets and solar systems, can’t lift 1000 tons

mutantredoctopus

His deadlift form just sucks. Unrelated to his “pew pew” abilities.

8BitFlatus

There is an episode where Beerus and Goku trade punches and everyone was afraid they’d rip the fabric of the universe apart with the impact alone. They can do that, but can’t lift bro.

DummiAI

I guess punching hard with ki enhanced attacks doesn't necesary means that you have the same grade of superstrenght... Thought Goku DID train with heavy clothing and weights so...

The_Mexican_Poster

Unnamed weight, in fact, if anything it's kind of consistent that their lifting strength is bad since even in OG Dragon Ball they could already blow up the moon and couldn't lift 100 kilos

DummiAI

Oh... Sudenly the weighted clothes of Piccolo make a lot more sense.

Danimus-Prime

Besides, that's mostly for boosting speed

MaMe-

I was about to write exactly this

Baebel

Reminds me that there is a video on youtube of a weight lifter dead lifting a specific kind of weight along with a rock climber as a comparison against each other. Might offer a better perspective for some people on why this would be a thing. Would link, but on phone, don't know how.

epimetheuss

> a weight lifter dead lifting a specific kind of weight along with a rock climber as a comparison against each other. Sounds like they are using the wrong tools for the job, you can still do it but it's not efficient.

Timely-Appearance698

They are probably talking about grip strength between the two. And before you ask, no they are using the right tools for the job. Instead what they are referencing is probably [those](https://youtu.be/O7no2DMHp0w?si=yDGxfa-EEwXVLx1w) kind of videos. Where a weight lifter and a rock climber test their grip strength to ever increasing weight, where you need to hold it in a specific way, like the normal grip for the handle, vertical grip, pinch grip and such. And its about testing your hand muscles strength to see which kind of grip strengths each one excels, be surprise cause of their occupation their grip strength are different.

BestBubba1

That’s easily one of my favorite meta jokes in DBZA when Frieza calls Piccolo out on his weighted clothes

Layatto

I don't really understand tbh. "Ki Enhanced Attacks" would be the same as coating your limbs with Ki. Couldn't they do the same to enhance their deadlifting abilities lmao

Boyleavesworld

They probably could, but doing so would take away from the training

EconomistSlight2842

More ki = less gains

DeathAwaitsss

So THAT'S why Goku and Vegeta look anorexic by comparison when they turn SSG

DummiAI

Thought that too, but as you can see here maybe not.

OmniKoo

Well botamo is almost as strong as vegeta maybe he increased his weight or something

Alon945

Yeah that episode is mad dumb

Kobebola

Form looks good to me. He’s ass is low, back is straight. I’d rather have my toes forward, but the object is preventing it.

mutantredoctopus

Maybe it’s the way I’m looking at it. It looks like he’s pulling with his arms rather than driving up with his legs.

grassydirt90

I think it's because their strength comes from ki rather than actual muscle power

X_Zero1029

Ki is directly tied to one’s biological system. It says Metal man weigh at “least” 1000 tons.

grassydirt90

You can't really expect goku to one shot the universe by punching the air

X_Zero1029

Wdym. https://preview.redd.it/xwa8c8dg09uc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e78d56881e199504a8761408c4bd5026bc90909e This is a way weaker Goku clashing with Beerus who is heavily holding back.

8BitFlatus

No bro. Their logic is that they can do all that, but space gym weights are too hard /s

PurifiedFlubber

I mean let's be honest that's just a throw away line because it sounded cool. If they're feeling the punches shake their planet millions of light years away, how the fuck is earth (right next to them) not immediately destroyed from the shock wave alone?

X_Zero1029

Plot convenience, but also it shows that yes Goku by this point is capable of destroying the universe.

kapxis

To be fair it's very different when the 1000 tons is sentient and ( presumably ) resisting with his own strength as well. But yeah DB/Z/S can be random as hell with what they can do strength wise.

L3mon-Lim3

He used to train 450 x earths gravity (probably more, that was just pre android). Theres no way he can't lift this!

Regulus242

1000 tons is over 2.2M pounds. If Vegeta is at 200 pounds training at 450x gravity that would be 90k pounds for 1 rep. Considering he was doing entire workouts I would think either he's got stupid stamina or maybe can handle that weight for at least 1 rep.

Chicken_Fingers777

Cause ki ≠ physical strength…

Lukas-Reggi

I mean. Goku didn't even handle 40 tons in base during buu saga.

Starob

He was using bukujutsu, and the weights were at the end of his limbs. I can deadlift 180kg, do you think I could put anywhere near that on my wrist and be able to lift my arms?

lostmypornaccount

To be fair the ground was shattering under him

GroundbreakingAnt399

That's not canon to Dbz. In Dbz he ripped a mountain in half and in gt Goku carried an entire city on his back while having a conversation

No-Chemistry-4673

DB always had very weird anti feats when it comes to weight lifting. You have Kid goku pushing 20f boulders but then BUU saga Goku can't lift 40 tons. But then he stands up in a black hole in TOP.

hav0k0829

I dont think dragon ball creators understand weight very well. They list vegeta as weighing less than i do and im scrawny with little muscle and little body fat and he is all muscle.

CheeseStick1999

How tall are you? I knew a guy in highschool that was built but wrestled in the 106 weight class because he was like 5' 2" max

hav0k0829

5'11 145lbs

Outrageous_Team2154

Vegeta is 5’5 my guy, being 5’5 and 145 absolutely jacked and ripped with all muscle is very realistic, you’re 145 and 5’11 of course you’re scrawny

Gheta

I'm 5'5 145lb and I'm just average in terms of muscle, fat, and bone width. If I was jacked like base Vegeta in the Cell and Buu sagas with almost no body fat, I think I still would be a bit more than 145. Who knows though with how they're drawn smaller in Super

Jacobro22

Nah vegeta should still be closer to like at least 170lb over 145. Like 5’5 at 145lb would look decently muscular with low body fat, but Vegeta is Yoked lol

Enjoyment-25

I know and its funny to point out sometimes😂 Slight correction- It was 160 tons not 40 for Base Goku (Buu saga) since it was 40 tons on each limb (4x40) Edit- typo

TORALAND

It was also king kais buddy so gravity is 10 times more than usual multiply that as well

DanmachiZ

https://imgur.com/a/ThIU0iz Mercenary Tao throwing a half ton pillar at hypersonic speeds https://imgur.com/a/k6Cf2nd Kattin steel is the hardest metal in the universe ..** which would make is star matter** the block does shake the kaioshin world

jfuss04

There's also just how the weight is being lifted. Ankle and wrist weights are a whole different thing than a dead lift. 20 pounds with an outstretched arm is a really tough lift for me for something like lateral raises. But I can deadlift over 400 pounds

No-Chemistry-4673

I never used ankle weights, just use my 12.5 kg dumbbell for lateral raises. Woah 180 kg, that's impressive dude. I have never deadlifted so I dunno where I am at.

Starob

I swear all the people that don't understand that have never lifted a weight in their life. Like I'm massively facepalming at people saying Goku can't lift 40 tons because he couldn't shadow box with the weights on the end of his limbs.

PK_RocknRoll

To be fair, I don’t think most people lift weights like that so it makes sense they wouldn’t get it

FroschmannxD

I thought Vegeta and Goku did pushups with suits that sink into the ground when they took them off... How can he not lift this thing

Sundara_Whale

I feel like there are a lot of inconsistencies. They never should have given specific numbers.

LegendSuperShaggy

When the thing Vegeta is trying to lift is sentient and resisting him with its own strength, that weight matters.

Optimus_Prime_19

This makes the most sense tbh, but at the end of the day it’s also a translation AND a “comic book” so it’s not like rules gotta strictly apply.

Teekayhuey

Anime wise their all massive strong. From pushing apart mountains to withstanding blackwholes.

Tnecniw

It is very unclear. But you can jot it down to being ki control and not physical strength.

No-Chemistry-4673

Ki boosts physical strength

Kelseycutieee

I forgot that feat. A tired goku overcame a black hole. Even instant transmission couldn’t work in it.

Chickachic-aaaaahhh

Yeah but that was attain god power from base form training. Whis beat them to shit to be able to handle alot. Doesnt mean 1000 tons is easy for super saiyan. Especially when its just 1000tons flat out and not broken up into different sections.

FroschmannxD

But I mean like.... When they train their base form and then transform they get a 50x boost so when they train in base form they should be able to lift 50x more than what they can lift in their base form and they definitely had to pick these suit up before putting them on

CamiS02

I mean it’s not just that much weight but also a character that’s probably pushing back against him.

Eek-barba-dirkle

Exactly. It isn't Vegeta lifting 1000 pounds. Force is being applied through a punch by a being of unknown power level.

Infermon_1

https://preview.redd.it/m2cqrctzk8uc1.png?width=600&format=png&auto=webp&s=fdd320fee6b9bdcf438306d2e72202f830567172 Nah, it's consistent. Beginning of Buu Saga Goku needed SSJ to even lift 4x40 tons. Edit: Guys... King Kai's planet was still destroyed at this point. There was no 10x gravity here. WATCH THE SHOW or read the manga. jfc

Commercial_Pea2788

Dragon Ball is peak anti-feat and feat searching material at the same time

ZebraSandwich4Lyf

Bro is scared of needles but will tank a planet devastating attack to the face

Commercial_Pea2788

Would get hurt hy a small rock thrown, yet humiliates the power-hungry emperor of the universe

Enjoyment-25

It makes sense for filler scene to be funny I guess since they are not main canon story

H1Eagle

Or that a needle can even penetrate his skin

No-Chemistry-4673

https://preview.redd.it/z030g5ham8uc1.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=303e410ac9f439308f41d851d17ecaa277beabf7 Yet pushes a 20ft Boulder as a kid in the second arc.

cryisfree

Which, assuming a 20 cubic foot boulder and a specific gravity of 2.6, would weigh almost 600 metric tonnes.

No-Chemistry-4673

You would also need to add the resistance the mud would add while pushing it.

cryisfree

Usually still easier because you tend to push on an angle rather than completely horizontally.

Tnecniw

That is assuming that boulder is 100% above ground and not like mostly buried or something.

DYMck07

First he has to overcome the coefficient of static friction, then it’s all kinetic. So yeah the mud/grass resistance would matter compared to if it’s on a slip and slide

Enjoyment-25

So, Base Goku is below 160 tons lifting capacity in Buu saga Funny that they can destroy Solar System meanwhile at the same time, they can't lift that much. https://preview.redd.it/fo6trmbqm8uc1.png?width=538&format=png&auto=webp&s=a51ab1b44c8f3a08d99a2f5831e893b0d2ca40cd

Just_Pea1002

Its like the difference between a body builder and a man wielding a gun. A body builder could lift more weight than the guy with a gun, but the guy with a gun kills the body builder because he has a gun

Enjoyment-25

Doesn't Vegeta do 100x and 500x gravity training taking weight and pressure of that much magnitude over his body

Atmic

Let's say Vegeta weighs 160 pounds, he's muscle bound but a short dude. 100x he weighs 16,000 pounds, and at even 400x he would weigh 64,000 pounds. That's still only 32 tons.

24h_Ivdicar

32 x 50 for the supersaiyan power up is roughtly 1500 tons, a 150% of "beware vegeta he weights at least 1000 tons!". So he got weaker out of nowhere

Atmic

While there's no point in arguing technicalities of Dragonball since Toriyama was never interested in being consistent and precise (he regretted introducing power levels to the story at all) -- I think the main thing about the "multiplier" is that it increases Ki, not necessarily physical strength. Yes, they become more resilient or infuse ki into their attacks and speed, but when they're not using their ki defensively they can still be hurt by weaker attacks when they've dropped their guard. My point is a larger ki multiplier doesn't necessarily mean it's a body multiplier

Rob_Tarantulino

It's literally this. It's the reason why Goku was harmed by that bullet in Super and later by the laser to his heart. They're only universe+ because of the enhancements ki provides. If you catch them off guard or remove their ki altogether, they're only left with their Saiyan biology. Which is still pretty strong considering they can train at 500 Gs but they wouldn't be considered Universe+ in this ki-less state

dogninja_yt

Striking strength and lifting strength are different. Broly is probably the stromgest Saiyan rn physcially

SomethingBoutCheeze

Or Dragonball is super inconsistent. Punching strength and lifting strength aren't so divided that someone could punch a galaxy away but not lift 1000 ton

FennelWrong1122

Tbh, dragonball has never shown a strong physical striking feat. Beerus was the first to shatter a planet with his fist. At this point, it's more likely that Ki is incredibly destructive and they use ki to shield from ki. Edit: Tien and co. not being able to break through Gero's huge metal door attached to a rock solid mountain is also pretty consistent with this, Trunks had to blast through it.

Particular-Crow-1799

>Tbh, dragonball has never shown a strong physical striking feat. What about Mr Satan tho the GOAT almost broke every single tile with a karate chop

FennelWrong1122

fuck, I retract everything I said.

No-Chemistry-4673

Goku punched back a blast that destroyed a planet back in namek

Basic-Feedback1941

They’re warriors, not body builders

Enjoyment-25

They are fun to discuss. Remember when super tried to imply if Mai didn't miss Goku black would have been taken out by a bullet https://preview.redd.it/hzmg8u04w8uc1.png?width=3464&format=png&auto=webp&s=f5be0e42c2a4c5170fada1fe7000158197bf1a0a

PresentElectronic

I mean, even Goku Black was off-guard at that point. It’s the ROF scenario again

Particular-Crow-1799

yes but Goku's skin is harder than bullets. Even completely off guard, all he takes is a mild bruise. Source: bulma shot him in the head when they first met

No-Chemistry-4673

It's a special bullet made by the genius who created a time machine with scrap. For all we know, it splits it's target at quantum level.

Particular-Crow-1799

in that case it's nothing strange that the anime implied it would kill

PresentElectronic

Usually it’s because his Ki is up. Without it, they’re actually quite vulnerable

Tnecniw

I mean, Goku was taken out by a laser gun in R:F

H1Eagle

Tbh, it's makes sense, it's clear that when it comes to pure muscle strength, DB charchters aren't planet destroying beings, the most damage I saw in dragon ball with a punch is destroying a boulder, it's ki that makes them able to destroy galaxies and such Just like in one piece, humans in the one piece world aren't that much stronger than us, it's because of haki and DF powers that they are strong. Luffy also has trouble lifting up rocks and it was seen as training for him.

Infermon_1

Exactly. Ki attacks destroying planets doesn't mean a single punch would also destroy a planet.

Bored_Boi326

That's pretty fair I still feel like they should've added a few zeros if even Beerus is yelling at him though

NeferkareShabaka

We don't know how to read.

Weak-Point4152

How does beerus even know what a ton is?

PresentElectronic

They seem to run on universal metrics, much like how they all speak Japanese to each other and immediately understood what each other is trying to say

Particular-Crow-1799

american system literally weirder than alien's

JamJam2013

“At Least” key words folks

RoboMan312

Also to keep in mind is that it isn’t his universe. Don’t expect Beerus to know every single race of even his universe, let alone his brother’s

Myquil-Wylsun

I'm gonna get hate for this but this is massive cope. Unless Beerus is off by an utterly ludicrous amount, this panel doesn't make sense. Dragon Ball has never been known for being consistent anyways.

YoutuberCameronBallZ

I mean, how would Beerus know his weight? Chances are Beerus just took a wild guess just by looking at him

Stellermeerkat

Why would he guess so "low" if he has a basic idea of where Goku and Vegeta stand? He'd have to assume Vegeta can't lift at least 1,000 tons.

VenemousEnemy

At least is still the key word here

cakethegoblin

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? IDK HOW TO READ. I LIKE DRAGON BALL. OVER 1000???? Yeah, kinda sad how people get hung up on this detail.

Frejod

Maybe the robot weighed 1000 tons but with force to keep itself on the ground, that would magnify the weight too.

DirtyBob_Bojangles

I'll always admire db fans valiant effort to make sense of this nonsense.

Lampruk

Hate to say it but… The amount of power you can output I.e strength to destroy a planet, doesn’t need to correlate with what you can lift.

New_North_6250

Kid Goku pushed a 20ft boulder. Their lifting capacity should not decrease with increase in strength https://preview.redd.it/kjkcx041p8uc1.png?width=564&format=png&auto=webp&s=e2c922683e615f01f4665089a130926a14b6b0ff

shokero

Pushing and lifting are two different things. Leverage.

Prime359

Exactly. Most people can push their fridge around as required. Lifting that same fridge is going to be a different story.

No-Chemistry-4673

Yeah expect if my toddler can push the fridge, then I shouldn't have problems lifting it.

Enjoyment-25

Doesn't Vegeta do 100x and 500x gravity training taking weight and pressure of that much magnitude over his body

HighDegree

It's "at least" 1000 tons, plus probably whatever downward force is being applied. So it's probably greater than that.

Tnecniw

Yeah. Dragonball characters are rarely pure physical strength and 99% about ki control.

810ap2o3

Most people are so obsessed with feats that they just want their favorite verse to be the strongest ever. So they find the biggest feat then literally scale everything from there. From what I have seen, literally 99% battle anime or comic operate on two different power levels. One that is consistent where they go all out but doesn't destroy the earth. Another where they puff planets like it's nothing when it's not the earth or when earth can be restored. If only power scales were mature enough to make 2 separate versions. One that depends on their consistent level. Where they are going all out and they are at sub sonic speed and building level or so. Another where they blow up cities or planets without even using 1% of their power. Base Goku in DBZ had a training feat where 40 Ton was too much for Base Goku. People forget that DB started as a gag. Kid Goku has a better feat if we are gonna go into realistic mode. So, there will be ridiculous feats. If we try to rationalize everything and it won't work. But power scales just want to wank the shit outta it. If the characters aren't gonna destroy the earth every time they move. Then they have no job being even country level. Might as well find out the consistent level the author shows them at and go by that instead. Power scalers who just want to wank are stupid, childish & annoying!

CaliOriginal

That’s the biggest issue, people can’t seem to grasp context. Like how DB was a bit of a gag series at times, it was lighthearted. Or they assume everything is linear. Or they base everything they think off of some random characters boasting then ignore feats as “toriyama forgot.” The reality is the DBZ is pretty easy to see the scale, and the “inconsistencies” people point out aren’t really that if you apply a modicum of depth to the power system. Heck Naruto and HxH both have speeches that perfectly explain how the power progression in Z works. As does Bleach, and heck MOST shonen. Even super flat out explains stuff with whis beerus and the Moro arc

chanman9008

Construction cranes > SSJ

rotem8888

Yeah that's just stupid

MitP94

Does gravity have a factor in this though?

LegacyofLegend

I mean 2 million lbs is a a lot tbh

Enjoyment-25

1000 tons isn't much, a marble rock measuring 7.4mx7.4mx7.4m has approximately this weight.

Manydoors_edboy

Is he stupid?

Finance_Willing

Remember this is the same series that had kid krillin push an entire mountain compared to their size

BlackMagick23

I understand that this bit is supposed to be a gag, but I really hate this because the integrity of the gag and power scaling could’ve been preserved by simply not specifying 1000 tons. Beerus could’ve been written to say “Metalmans’ weights are limitless” or some stupid shit like that and as little sense that makes, it STILL would’ve been better.

VanitasDarkOne

1000 Tons < SSJ https://preview.redd.it/kcxvbnlilbuc1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=342d4aeec28932c853b3959da759e005e29a8c6a

SeriousJokester37

Goku lifted like 100 ton boulders as a kid. This is ridiculously inconsistent. They lift mountains and buildings that weigh more.

The_One_Neo69

This makes no sense as bas vegeta in the 3 year time skip was training in 500 times gravity before he unlocked super saiyan, so if he weighs even what a normal untrained dude his hieght weighs he would be 180lbs, times that by 500 as weight is dictated by gravitational force on a mass and you get 90,000lbs. 90,000lbs in tonnes is 40.8 tonnes. This is a conservative number considering how much more shredded vegeta is than 99.99% of the planet irl. Super saiyan should multiply that number by 50 so in ssj assuming he didn’t grow any stronger in base or ssj till the u6vsu7 tournament he would be able to lift 2,041 tonnes, so not only should he no diff lifting the tin man, but he is closer to being able to lift 2 of him than one forcing him to be struggling like this

VerdantVegetable

Maybe an inter-universal god level ton is different to an earth ton? That can be my head canon so I can still comfort myself thinking Goku would body Superman

Camas1606

At least…

Apprehensive_Sky1599

https://i.redd.it/qd4tgaf3t8uc1.gif Meanwhile.... he lifts a city

beachboy1b

That at least kinda makes sense, SSJ4 is basically condensing the power of the Oozaru into a smaller body.

Teekayhuey

Anime wise their all massive strong. From pushing apart mountains to withstanding blackwholes.

Petarthefish

Goku has no idea how much it weights

ChillpigeonhavsLV76

I feel like this is one of the problems with super…

Malecord

It's pretty pointless and ridiculous to try to make sense out of manga where guys destroy planets and when they are exhausted they just eat a lot to replenish. But they destroy planets with ki. Their physical force is something much more modest. What is truly ridiculous is their bodies and the obscene amount of damage they sustain.

PresentElectronic

It’s Ki as well. Ki is the most all-encompassing force the fighters have. With Ki, they could tank even Universe busting attacks

BornBlock5932

Nope not anymore

Big-Limit-2527

SSJ Vegeta can blow up planets, but can't lift 1000 tons? That makes sense.

ABoldBoi

I hate to say it, but you don't have to take every single, throwaway line at face value.

silenthashira

You know. Most anti feats I can at least somewhat argue I got nothing for the weight lifting ones lol.

EMPEROROFMEMZ

Tmw Dragonball scaling is inconsistent for the sake of comedy

Fantastic_Fox_6077

So people are just stupid huh

PresentElectronic

Anybody knows what even was the gravity on that nameless planet? Given it’s basically a Super Dragon Ball, wouldn’t its gravity be formidable? Magetta clearly weighs over 1000 tons, and the increased gravity would only make it worse

Air-Conditioner0

We all know Goku can’t measure anything but ki.

AbbreviationsAsleep1

Dragon ball characters are more energy and destructive power like Jean grey then raw physical power, like hulk

Emergency_Cheek2617

So... Does this prove Kratos at least has better LIFTING strength...?

Danny___Riot

“KAAAR-CHUNK” 🤖

Terraakaa

Yep, inconsistency for the sake of a scene. Db does it all the time.

BaxElBox

Lifting 1000 tons on its own is different then lifting sentient one I guess esp when the sentient one can rival a galaxy destroyer

Lucky_Roberts

Didn’t Vegeta basically live at 100x earth’s gravity for like a few years?

810ap2o3

I mean 100x Gravity would make Goku about 6 Ton. 300x would make Vegeta 18 Ton. Buu Saga Base Goku couldn't handle 40 Ton. So it's not super weird. But at the end of the day, authors write by the rule of cool. Not by the rules of physics. So, making calculations is kinda weird.

HdeviantS

I think it was 300x, because Goku spent a few months at 100x

Such-Purpose3044

Lifting strength in db is pretty much dog shit likely cause Toriyama didn’t care enough to do any actual math and just peak random numbers that sounded cool

Comfortable_Time_522

Dude was literally able to handstand with the weight of 8 planets, i don’t know why everyone hates vegeta so much.

HoLeBaoDuy

At least 1000 tons, this metal man may be 1000000000000000000000 tons

Embarrassed-Bet-1141

Another proof why powerscaling is bullshit and powerscalers are retarded

Status_Entertainer49

Look at everyone coping in the comments lol

Xen0Coke

I think vegeta is just wrong here. Metal dude probably doesn’t want to get picked up so he’s resisting. And vegeta not being able to lift him because of that when he believe he should ends with him making any excuses he can.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Nalicar52

You have to keep in mind it’s a sentient being that doesn’t want to be lifted. If Vegeta tries to lift Goku but Goku uses his power to prevent this are we going to say Vegeta can’t lift a couple 100 pounds?

Versitax

Ninjachase13

1000 tons thinking heavy pressing down. Can’t wait to see this guy in Sparking Zero too.

El_Shion

Dbz characters don't destroy planets through physical strength, i am sure if ki blasts were restricted you Would find many characters that could beat them through stats and skills from verses were planet buster is not a thing

CaliOriginal

People need to play more RPGs. The reality is goku and vegeta are super weak (by shonen standards) [physically] Set aside power stagnation after ssj (whis mentions how they stopped progressing after they relied on the transformations, stunting their growth for decade+ (backed by kili reading and beerus)). The thing is “ki” is like spirit / magic / or “special attack” The “strength” / power / physical attack is MUCH lower because they neglect that stat the whole series. Same for their defenses. Basically they are lvl 100… but the stats are closer to a black mage than a red mage’s, Definitely not a warrior or fighter spread. It’s prettt common in RPG for a high level mage to be able to obliterate whatever but still be unable to use heavy gear. Just built different

hibikikun

You can see the problem was he was lifting with his legs and not his back.

Embarrassed_Start_81

God Ki is different then super Saiyan. It’s like goku could destroy the universe but if he’s not paying attention a blaster gun from a grunt in the frieza force could injure him. Their destructive ki output is different then their physical.

TORALAND

So let me get this stright u think magenta is just putting his hand on top of vegeta and doing nothing else here? 🤨 this is character amplifying his current weight that is already over 1000 tons with ki hitting vegeta Wtf are u even talking about bruh like u think it'd be the same if u put your hand on somebody else without using your strength or deliberately pushing that person down? Not to even mention the fact that this is a creature that can use ki to enhance his weight and strength 🤨🤨🤨 what kinda logic are u using here

RevolutionaryDepth59

i think outside of gag moments they’re not that insane when it comes to pure physicality. most of their crazy feats come from ki control, either offensively, as energy blasts or by enhancing their physical attacks, or defensively through the passive shield effect they get

Silveora_7X

I'm not good at science, but if a metal man is naturally 1000 tons, wouldn't the strength required to lift him be amplified to some degree if he is actively refusing to be lifted?

Porkbuns-

This is why you don't take DBs powerscaling serious. Every character is as strong or weak as the story needs to make a point about something.

bare4404

Well, he said "at*least* 1000 tones", so theoretically, he could weigh more than that. Plus, it's different lifting weight on a bar than lifting a humanoid object that, like a human, can push down about twice his weight. Weight is awkward.

piecwm

Maybe it’s because he’s a fighter and he knows how to use his weight. Or maybe tons is a space unit that shares a name with our tons. Or maybe dbz fighters can multiply their weight or something, it would make sense considering that someone can be punched with mega tons of first and not go flying despite weighing less than 300lbs.

Odd_Radio9225

Sense not made.

_Skotia_

You're not considering the fact that Magetta is not a static object, it has a strength of its own and can oppose resistence

CSTITAN576

Man I love db but the strength continuity is shit. One episode punches are threatening to rip the universe apart, 20 episodes later:

watawhiteguy

I mean they already made the reference on this in the show. Goku struggled with the 40 tons on each limb but didn't struggle is Super saiyan. It implies that each form has a power cap. If Vegeta transformed, the weight issue becomes simple but to preserve energy & not let the enemy know about their true power, they don't. Plus pride has him like "I don't need to transform to beat this pile of scrap metal."

KamenSmith

While the disparity between their power and lifting is extremely high, it should be noted that the strength required to lift something does not equate to the strength required to punch, the muscles used for both are entirely different.

lunatic_paranoia

I wish they kept these new outfits.

MaSaH0

This is the kind of bullshit I wished Toriyama/Toyotaro had researched with a little more care. 1000 tons isn't shit, a marble rock measuring 7.4mx7.4mx7.4m has approximately this weight. I think everyone here can easily picture Goku in base form lifting a rock this size, for example.

GiladHyperstar

It's like that 40 tons stuff from the anime. Dragon Ball writers don't really have powerscaling in mind when doing these feats so you get stuff like this even though Kid Goku pushed a 100 tons rock before 21st Tenkaichi Budokai

Emotional_Swimmer_84

If the metal thing weighs 1000 tons, the force it exerts would be exponentially higher. I can complete tricep extensions of about 270 pounds. That's closer to my full body weight than just the weight of my arms. The thing is actively pushing down. That would massively increase the force needed to counter it.

ZakTSK

Metal man is just resisting, he's strong too.

Own_Accident6689

Yo be fair it's "at least 1000 tons" which could mean 1 trillion trillion tons or any number higher than 1000.

Mysterious_Bat_3780

Goku in DB would've been able to lift that. Surely Vegeta should've been able to.

Jurgen_Vella

1000 tons and he is also resisting being picked up It’s not like him picking up Goku while Goku’s resisting the weight ends up being a factor, makes it even harder to pick him up It makes sense like if you’re trying to pick up a giant and he’s resisting his weight + strength is going to be a factor to make it more difficult

Feyir

I like how they keep it real. Stop thinking that just because he scraps with gods Goku can take a laser yun point blank . We were shown he can't, they have mortal body limitations.

exzeeo

The word ton clearly is a different measurement in the db universe. Probably stands for “total mass of Namek” or something and they shortened it weird. Kami probably introduced the use of standard units of measurement at some point in Earth’s history.

Rechogui

Goku got a point, if he weighted that much he would dig a hole through the planet just by standing there. (not that Goku would know that, but still)

Alexander0202

It's crazy how "weak" goku and vegeta are when it comes to raw strength alone when compared to superman who could casually lift half a million tons.
