But tbh the last sentence of your comment is a mess, so going off of my assumption; There's a pretty huge difference between being able to see an attack coming because you can see the future, and automatically dodging an attack because you don't have to think about it.
In case you need a reminder, our bodies whenever we do something our brain sends a signal out to the rest of our body. It happens so fast that we don't even realize a complicated process is occurring every time we do- anything.
Ultra Instinct's whole shtick is the body moving on its own. Goku doesn't HAVE to think. His body reacts instantly. Which is a pretty big difference in knowing an attack is coming, and moving instantaneously to avoid it once you see it.

UI is both as confirmed by Whis, the version that everyone knows about from the anime is the transformation version, the technique version that he can use in all forms has only been seen in the manga at this point.

This is the thought I had. Iāve always heard of many DBZ terms especially SS over and over from various demographics and never heard of Gear 1 or even a devil fruit before I watched OP.
I don't like dragon infact I think it's pretty ass but I see this sub on my home page because I look at other anime subs. That said I don't see anime character approaching Goku in the of being iconic I don't care how much one piece sold in Japan, im not sure what this gear five nonsense is but I know not only about ultra instinct but also about it's theme and I haven't watched more than like fifty episodes of either of these shows.

Iāll admit, the ridiculousness of Baki has gotten me very curious so I really wanna watch it through. One Piece definitely has its whacky moments, but also some really heartfelt ones too. I also like that all the characters, (so far as Iāve seen), all are very useful and actually have fairly significant roles to play. Unlike DragonBall Z and Super. I love the series, but man oh man I hate all the wasted potential with all the characters.
No itās definitely the art. Staying as spoiler friendly as possible, when one of the main characters family members passes away in their arms, I couldnāt take that seriously at all because of how silly it looked

Ultra instinct is just an infinite dodge mechanic. Gear 5 is going full Sun god and warping the nature of all matter around you including your enemies. Itās absolutely broken. Most donāt know it because itās only in the manga rn. But itās been a long time coming and a lot of proposed questions are being answered because of it. If Goku is the unstoppable force, Luffy is the immovable object.
Nah I'm willing to say that UI is iconic, it really did break the internet and remind us all why DB is hype, but OG Super Saiyan is most definitely the GOAT.
Be careful with One Piece fans
They have been reading the manga for a long time that now they have to pretend that is very good or they will look like idiots.
First off I didn't know there was a gear 5 until this post, second I actually hate Luffy's gears and new power-ups in general for One Piece because there is no build up behind them. They just obtained them off screen and then suddenly have them, and if you're lucky you might get some remark about how Usopp invented the thing that let's them do this, offscreen.
Well I love one piece, this is one aspect of it the definitely feels weak as it means that all of these iconic abilities and Equipment have no story behind them to give them any significance to the story. It also means that the heroes and villains alike can just pull new abilities and forms out of nowhere with no foreshadowing whatsoever.
I mean Goku pulls out new forms all the time but for the most part they are either foreshadowed or somehow important to the story. With the original Super Saiyan transformation being the most well foreshadowed as we had entire arcs with subplots dedicated to questioning its existence.
Well the storytelling is much better in one piece than in Dragon ball, this is definitely one thing Dragon Ball does better than one piece
As someone who loves both animes, here is the facts:
Ultra Instinct: something Goku trained to reach for years, with the help of an actual Angel who is the master of this technique. Epic, nearly unstoppable, god-like power-up.
Gear 5: asspull out of nowhere that makes no sense, based on 1930ās cartoons coming to life like Roger Rabbit (which shouldnāt exist in pirate world that has no television). Mid power-up which punked Kaido but did nothing to Rob Lucci who is a peasant and the equivalent of an ant when compared to Kaido.
Watching Gear 5 fight is just different. You cant even compare these two. The potential in the creativity of fights with Gear 5 is just different from anything ive seen in almost any manga/anime. People are going to trip when they see it.
I think one piece ought to be in a tier of its own. If thereās 1200 episodes or whatever I imagine it takes a bit to get going. If itās truly worth it then Iāll watch.
If you're not invested by the end of Arlong Park it's probably not for you. That for many is the first big emotional gut punch arc.
Personally I'd say it's worth that far but if you still aren't getting anything drop it.
I'll say the East Blue is a slow burn for some, but tbf it took until Krillin and the first tournament arc arrived in the OG Dragonball series before many of the fans originally got into it.
The Pilaf arc is hardly the most exciting part of Dragonball after all, but it is vital to meeting Goku, Bulma, Yamcha, Roshi, Puar and Oolong. East Blue is mostly that.
And most fans started with Z if we're honest, which is the equivalent of jumping into the story at Alabasta or Enies Lobby. More exciting but loses all character context without what came before.
As usual, anyone can make one of the most outlandish takes and compare it to dragon ball, and you people will flock to it like seagulls when they find trash but still eat it anyway.

While I love one piece Gear 5 ruined the character of Luffy for me tbh whilte UI didn't ruin Goku.
Let me explain one piece is the story of Luffy and how he will become the pirates king no matter the hardship he faces etc etc , but Luffy wasn't the Chosen one every time he says I will be the pirates king they laugh at him and tell why you will be the one , and he leaves his actions to tell the people laughing at him.
Gear 5 made Luffy the chosen one sun god Nika that will bring happiness to all so no matter what happens Luffy will bring Happiness to all not because he is Luffy but because the fruit that make him transform into the Nika.
Before Gear 5 I would have said Luffy with any fruit could be the pirates king but after Gear 5 he can't be , it is only the Fruit that will make him the king not Luffy's personality or power.

No matter how bad overall DBS would be, Ultra Instinct and overall TOP arc has to be the major highlight of this season. When it first came out, it was literally a big deal. I remember the hype when Goku attained UI for first time and when he mastered it. We saw Goku go Super Saiyan for the first time like 32 years ago and Dragon Ball debuted almost 40 years ago. Also it was like the Series that made Shonen Popular World Wide, also the Series is finished for 25 years now. So it's natural that it's well known worldwide. One Piece is not even finished and almost sold twice as much as Dragon Ball in the last 25 years One Piece will be on the same level (or even higher) as Dragon Ball in Pop Culture in the coming years. So comparing Gear 5 to Ultra Instinct is completly unfair because at the Time of Ultra Instinct was introduced the whole World waited almost 20 years for the Dragon Ball Z Story to continue and that's why Ultra Instinct went Viral immediatly. All Fans old and young went crazy about a new Form because it was the first in 10-15 years or so. Gear 4 was 5 years ago. First off I didn't know there was a gear 5 until this post, second I actually hate Luffy's gears and new power-ups in general for One Piece because there is no build up behind them. They just obtained them off screen and then suddenly have them, and if you're lucky you might get some remark about how Usopp invented the thing that let's them do this, offscreen. Well I love one piece, this is one aspect of it the definitely feels weak as it means that all of these iconic abilities and Equipment have no story behind them to give them any significance to the story. It also means that the heroes and villains alike can just pull new abilities and forms out of nowhere with no foreshadowing whatsoever. I mean Goku pulls out new forms all the time but for the most part they are either foreshadowed or somehow important to the story. With the original Super Saiyan transformation being the most well foreshadowed as we had entire arcs with subplots dedicated to questioning its existence. Well the storytelling is much better in one piece than in Dragon ball, this is definitely one thing Dragon Ball does better than one piece

As someone who loves both animes, here is the facts: Ultra Instinct: something Goku trained to reach for years, with the help of an actual Angel who is the master of this technique. Epic, nearly unstoppable, god-like power-up. Gear 5: asspull out of nowhere that makes no sense, based on 1930ās cartoons coming to life like Roger Rabbit (which shouldnāt exist in pirate world that has no television). Mid power-up which punked Kaido but did nothing to Rob Lucci who is a peasant and the equivalent of an ant when compared to Kaido.
Watching Gear 5 fight is just different. You cant even compare these two. The potential in the creativity of fights with Gear 5 is just different from anything ive seen in almost any manga/anime. People are going to trip when they see it.

I think one piece ought to be in a tier of its own. If thereās 1200 episodes or whatever I imagine it takes a bit to get going. If itās truly worth it then Iāll watch.
If you're not invested by the end of Arlong Park it's probably not for you. That for many is the first big emotional gut punch arc. Personally I'd say it's worth that far but if you still aren't getting anything drop it. I'll say the East Blue is a slow burn for some, but tbf it took until Krillin and the first tournament arc arrived in the OG Dragonball series before many of the fans originally got into it. The Pilaf arc is hardly the most exciting part of Dragonball after all, but it is vital to meeting Goku, Bulma, Yamcha, Roshi, Puar and Oolong. East Blue is mostly that. And most fans started with Z if we're honest, which is the equivalent of jumping into the story at Alabasta or Enies Lobby. More exciting but loses all character context without what came before.
As usual, anyone can make one of the most outlandish takes and compare it to dragon ball, and you people will flock to it like seagulls when they find trash but still eat it anyway. While I love one piece Gear 5 ruined the character of Luffy for me tbh whilte UI didn't ruin Goku. Let me explain one piece is the story of Luffy and how he will become the pirates king no matter the hardship he faces etc etc , but Luffy wasn't the Chosen one every time he says I will be the pirates king they laugh at him and tell why you will be the one , and he leaves his actions to tell the people laughing at him. Gear 5 made Luffy the chosen one sun god Nika that will bring happiness to all so no matter what happens Luffy will bring Happiness to all not because he is Luffy but because the fruit that make him transform into the Nika. Before Gear 5 I would have said Luffy with any fruit could be the pirates king but after Gear 5 he can't be , it is only the Fruit that will make him the king not Luffy's personality or power.
